As said below, there's an incredibly rude male barista (no hair) - who really needs to sort himself out. Friendly customer service in exchange for money seems to be too much of an ask. Go elsewhere.

I usually love getting coffee from here and have a pleasant experience but the older male barista with no hair is always so rude. By having a member of staff be so unnecessarily volatile it's off-putting for customers to come in. Please sort this out.

I went to Caffe Nero as I have been to many of these chains before. I have had two instances with the same staff member who has been rude and very confrontational. One instance my order was prepared wrong so I kindly asked for it to be redone, (I ordered a hot drink and was served it as an iced one, my friend was with me and confirmed with me after that i asked for hot). I was very nervous about asking as I am autistic and struggle with social situations. Upon asking for a new drink I was met with the staff member being quite argumentative and disagreeing with me, inisting I had ordered cold. I was lucky my friend was there as she confirmed that I had ordered a hot drink to the barista. I got my drink in the end but while waiting for it to be served I was very uncomfortable as the atmosphere from staff seemed very annoyed. Secondly, on one occasion I went and me and my friend both wanted to order in takeaway cups but asked for sit in. We have to ask for it this way as our lunch time is very limited on most days so we can only sit in the cafe for around 5 minutes before we have to return to our classes, I also always as for a takeaway cup as I have a lot of sensory issues in relation to cups and this is the easiest way for me to get takeaway drinks. While waiting for our drinks to be served two of the baristas began gossiping and talking about how they didn't like customers who ask for such things, it just felt very rude and as if they were blaming us for 'getting rid of their jobs' as quoted from one of the baristas, and they were gossiping about customers infront of our faces. At the end of the day they are still making the coffee, so no jobs are lost. Overall products are same old same old, if you have been to any Caffe Nero before then all items are just the same. I haven't been back since the second incident as the anxiety and confrontational staff are preventing me from doing so...

Caffè Nero in Durham city centre is very good from a service perspective and, of course, the coffee is consistently excellent. The seating area is distinctly different from other branches of the chain in that, instead of the usual comfy settees and easy chairs, there are lots of small, square tables with hard wooden chairs of the type that takes you back to your schooldays. No doubt the designer did this in homage to the University status of the city. Personally, my posterior has moved past the era of school seating and I would prefer a more comfy, adult form of seating. There is no other seating area and, bearing in mind that this one is rather small, I wonder if they would continue to allow students to take up tables while doing their studies with one cup of seemingly everlasting coffee while other customers can’t find room? Just curious.

My twin brother Stephen and I decided to jump the train down to Durham while on a week's holiday in Newcastle to explore that most pretty of towns ,while walking down Silver Street we came across this Caffé Nero outlet and dropped in . Your typical Caffé Nero ,neat and tidy, light and airy, a glass fronted serving bar showcases the goodies on offer and there's plenty of seating options spread throughout this cafe despite its relatively small size. We were here on a Thursday night, we ordered a cappuccino coffee each, served steaming hot, we just kicked back, chilled out and planned out the day ahead while sipping our coffee's. My cappuccino was really good, a big fan of the coffee served in Caffé Nero, its consistant in all their outlets, their cappuccino coffee is a particular favourite of mine, so tasty . We both really enjoyed our coffee's in here before we moved on and for a first time visit to this particular Caffé Nero we were impressed. This Caffé Nero is easy to locate along Silver Street. Opening hours are; Monday Saturday, Open from 7am. Sunday, Open from 8am. Most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

I understand covid is a stressful time but we were shocked by our experience today. Me and my friend were wearing masks and were stood outside when a gentleman staff member (middle aged, bald) said there were no tables, so it was takeaways only. We asked if we could wait for a table, and he said sure if you wait outside. We of course said yes. We waited happily outside for around 10-15 minutes. Other customers began to go in, and a couple turn round and said oh sorry are you waiting, we replied yes we just want a table so we are waiting, but you can still get takeaway. They said oh sorry for pushing in front and left. The man than cane up to me and my friend, raised his voice, telling us how dare we tell customers they can't come in and that we cant reserve a table. We said "oh we are really sorry we just told them we were waiting for a table" We went on to shout at us telling us we can't do that and we don't run the shop, before going back inside. We were shocked, we felt this was really unprovoked. And we did everything we could to follow all the rules. We left, and still shaken up by the rudeness of this man. From working in customer service, in a coffee shop myself, I was shocked by how someone could speak to customers like that and I hope no other customers have to experience this again.

Not a cookie-cutter Caffè Nero. Small, pleasantly dark (rather than gloomy) and simply furnished. The kind of cafe where you can pleasantly hide on a hot day or quietly study as I saw people doing when I was there.

I've had a coffee here a number of times before work. However after today I will never return to this shop. After entering the shop there was only one person waiting to be served. It's not obvious if there is a specific side to queue so I stood next to them waiting to be served. After a couple of minutes 6 or 7 people came into the shop and formed a queue at the other side. At this point the guy serving said I had to queue at the other side and insisted I go to the back of the queue. No thanks I went and found a coffee shop where the staff value their customers and do not embarrass them in front of a group of people.

I like the chain Caffe Nero and often choose it when traveling because the coffee is invariably good and snacks fresh and tasty. Seemed pretty disorganised - one person took my order, then left the till, another took it then served the people behind me. Ten minutes from first ordering to getting my cuppa is pretty bad! They were still serving the person after the person behind me as I'd finished my cappuccino and was leaving. And - perhaps most importantly - the coffee wasn't brilliant. Definitely better service and coffee elsewhere in town.

This cafe is situated on Silver Street Bridge, which is right in the heart of Durham City centre. You can sit outside and watch the comings and goings. Nero is pretty decent chain ofCafes. The one in Durham is central, just down from Market Place. Prices are adequate and drinks pretty good. The Barristas have bit more flair than Starbucks and give you tray and napkin and spoon even on small orders and are really polite. Feels more authentic than other coffee shops and music is decent. During our recent visit to Durham City, we decided to stop for a coffee at Caffe Nero, which is situated just across the old bridge crossing the river beneath the wondrous spires and turrets of Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle. After you cross the bridge on foot, you begin to climb the historic cobbled lane leading up to the old Market Square. Caffe Nero is situated on the left hand side of this lane about halfway towards the market square. It is a narrow quirky venue with the rich aromatic welcome of a variety of coffees and some cosy seating greeting you as you enter. There is a casual, laid back customer atmosphere here for enjoying coffee and other beverages as well as delicious treats. Several tables were being used by students, one student at a table for four, books and laptop taking up all the table while they drank a coffee for hours. This wasn't only one table but several. Once I did get served, they were friendly and helpful but I would think twice before going back because the space is very limited and due to a huge number of tables being squished together, conversation is nearly impossible and you feel a bit pressured to finish and leave, which, of course, isn't the caffe's fault but it ruins the atmosphere a bit.

Coffee was quite nice but the 'barista'/coffee maker/server had such a loud voice, barking out instructions and impatiently asking who wanted a drink/who was waiting to be served etc. It was if she was there for her benefit and we were side kicks to her act. She also kept smashing cups and plates together and dropping things; the music is another interference - too loud and inappropriate. Altogether it was far from a 'relaxing coffee' but stressful and unpleasant. I finally gave up, asked for my coffee to be transferred to a take-away cup and left. There are plenty of more pleasant coffee shops in Durham to choose from.
