It is such a great café to visit. Very warm and welcoming, a good choice of snacks and the coffee is excellent. A great place to meet friends

Service was friendly and cafe was clean, however unfortunately felt a bit disappointed with the food. Ordered a roll and potato scone and was quite let down to find there was only one scone in the roll which was quite dry and hard. Roll and sausage was alright but again sausage was quite hard. Rolls were quite expensive at around 3.50 a roll(however this is expected given the location. I would be much more accepting of this had the rolls been nicer). The tea was also lovely and I appreciated the student discount! Possibly just a bad day with the kitchen I must note

La comida siempre es excelente, a un precio razonable y el personal siempre es servicial y hoy no fue diferente. Mesas bien espaciadas, desinfectante de manos y baños, me sentí realmente seguro y disfruté del almuerzo. Mesas mezcla de altas con 4 asientos, normales y par de mesitas con sofás.

Step inside and enjoy a great coffee in a spacious and relaxing cafe. What more could you want. Friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommended.

Visited two days in row for light lunch. Great selection of food in a really relaxed atmosphere. Bacon rolls are my favourite. Great for kids too. Staff are friendly and a no rush service.

Easily overlooked. Plenty of space and a mixture of seating with comfey armchairs, sofas, etc. Quite a sparse food menu but a wide range of teas. Popular with students studying it seems. Service was good. Prices were fine. Externally it looks a bit like a venue rather than a cafe but the signs make it clear enough.

My family were flying into Edinburgh airport early morning on 23rd December. We researched where to go for breakfast before we visited the Xmas Market. What a disappointing experience. The menu was practically non existent as they informed us it was a limited choice because it was 23rd?? Service was practically non existent from 2 young girls who didnt seem interested. Unfortunately my visitors didnt get the nice scottish breakfast I had promised...bad choice!

This Cafe is a hidden gem.Very spacious and just off the main road with great views.Good selection of food and fantastic coffee.

Five of us visited for lunch,ordered drinks and food good choice, drinks and food arrived very quickly and very tasty.very friendly and helpful, Well worth a visit brilliant atmosphere.

We stopped in from the cold for a coffee/cake and some soup. The quality of everything we received was great. There was a great selection of cakes, I only wish I could have tried more!

I just so wanted to sit down for 10 minutes with a coffee, but after 5:30 (café shuts at 6pm) only take-a-away available (I arrived just after 5:30). Lovely / relaxing looking café, but I ended up having to go somewhere else where I could rest my feet for a few minutes. Will definitely try and revisit, just need to arrive before 5:30.

Slightly disappointed after ordering toffee apple tea and it being out of stock. Ended up having the Strawberry Serenade tea, which was lovely. Family seemed very happy with their cappuccinos.

Stopped off for a quick bite on the way to Edinburgh Castle. Had the best cranberry, brie and bacon panini. Lovely pastries and coffee as well.

Nos preguntamos la Royal Mile y decidimos que era hora de descansar y tomar un café. Estábamos en una pequeña tienda de curiosidades cuando llegó la urgencia y como no teníamos conocimiento del área, consultamos con el cajero un lugar tranquilo para tomar un café. "Simplemente toma la siguiente izquierda, atraviesa el patio, baja las escaleras y sube la colina". Nunca hubiéramos encontrado esta tienda en el laberinto de calles laterales de la Royal Mile. En menos de 10 minutos nos sentamos en una mesa con un increíble blanco plano, té, pasteles y bollos. El café era tan bueno que conseguí un segundo y otro bollo. El mejor café en la milla y un personal amable, solo tuve que preguntar.

Es muy difícil entrar en una cafetería durante la periferia, está muy ocupado. Queríamos un café relajante antes del tren a casa. Este tenía una mesa libre, pero fue muy decepcionante. Café horrible, realmente no estoy seguro de por qué todas las críticas favorables. Pidió una taza de café con 2 tragos. Tengo una enorme taza de café débil e insípido. Yak. Solo lo dejé. Cuando le pregunté a mi esposo si quería que esperara mientras tomaba su café, no, es repugnante, dijo. Así que dejamos ambos cafés y tomamos el tren anterior. Completa pérdida de dinero.

The place is very cozy and comfortable. The staff were friendly and polite. The food was very delicious and tasty.

We were just at the end of our weekend trip and was walking back from the Royal Mike to the train station at literally stumbled across 'Cafe on the mound'. It was lovely and quiet. Bright, high rise ceilings and a comfortable place to sit and enjoy lunch. For the location it was very reasonably priced. Food was lovely, lots of choice and my kids are fussy and they were happy with their kids box meal, which consisted of a sandwich, juice and a bag of crisps.

Came at the start of our trip in june.based on the reviews of good breakfast and coffee. Unfortunately I can't see why this has the rating it does. Service, breakfast poor. Decent coffee. But yes everything swimming in grease. I'd like to think a poor day in the kitchen but you can always get service right. No greeting, moody when taking order and not checking if food was acceptable. Wouldn't try again sadly.

Great little cafe off the Royal mile. Visited at 14:00 and it was only moderately busy. Gods food at reasonable prices. Definitely worth the side trip too.

Stopped in this morning for a tea and pastry as a nice way to top off a busy morning. A pear Danish and a nice cuppa to take a breather. Wasn't too busy this morning when I arrived, but the biggest thought was about needing a cup of tea. I was quite happy with my tea and fresh Danish.

if you like real coffee, don’t come to this place, there are places with real coffee not this dirty watter place. Slices are too sweet and hot chocolate was watery. And service was very average. Was surprised due to all the good reviews it has.

What a lovely place to relax; good wifi, comfy couches. Only wanted a coffee; too weak for me so wasn’t great but looked around and lots of people enjoying a range of food. Would ask for a stronger coffee and maybe some soup and a sandwich which looked good

We stopped in for 2 cappuccinos and split an empire cookie. Both were very nice. Clean toilets and nice staff.

Friendly, efficient staff. Great breakfasts from full Scottish, bacon rolls, croissant, muffins, etc. Good quality Illy coffee and an excellent view across Princes St.

Luke warm, too strong, espresso. Stale croissant. No atmosphere. Can't understand why this place has such good reviews! Only saving grace is that staff were friendly and helpful when I asked for hot water to warm up my coffee and they heated my croissant in the oven to crisp it up a bit!! I won't be going back given how many genuinely good cafes there are in Edinburgh. Yes and the view is good if you get a seat at the window though everyone, apart from me, was staring at a screen!!!

Visited here twice on our short break in Edinburgh. Good value, tasty soups and sandwiches just off the overpriced tourist traps of the Royal Mile. Would definitely come here again.

Situated on The Mound between the Royal Mile and the railway line means there is a great view over the New Town from this cafe. The furnishings are adequate but comfortable. The decor is nothing special but there is free WiFi and an exceptional choice of teas. Food is mainly basic cafe-type but there are some good looking cakes to tempt the weak-willed!

This was the first place we stopped on our visit to Edinburgh and it was a great first impression. We had toasties and tea, which were excellent and good value. Staff were friendly and helpful and the comfortable seating was very welcome

Pedimos en el mostrador y trajeron nuestras bebidas y almuerzos muy rápidamente. Fuera de la Royal Mile, mirando hacia la galería, estaba lejos de las multitudes y tenía un ambiente agradable y relajado.

This is a very good cafe. Staff welcoming and helpful, great location and great food. We have one of the soups on special and we’re not disappointed, it was served piping hot with bread and butter. If you sit on a high table by the window you also get a great view down over the new town. Surprisingly quiet for a Saturday afternoon.

Picture a windy, wet and cold morning in Edinburgh and you'll understand the need to find somewhere in the centre of the City to warm up, eat and relax. The entrance is uninspiring and may be the reason why this place isn't 'heaving ' but, for starters, the coffee was excellent - even the cappuccino which so often is weak and overly milky - here it had great depth of flavour. We returned later for lunch, nicely frozen after visiting Edinburgh Castle, with toddler in tow and enjoyed excellent

Cafe on the Mound was the first place that we stopped to eat after an overnight flight and dropping our bags at the hotel. The coffee and scones left an excellent first impression.

This was our first stop after arriving in Edinburgh so it was a much needed break after our journey. We ordered a bacon and cheese on toast and a gorgeous piece of cake, the food was excellent, our only grievance was the price for a cup of tea!!! £3.00 for a cup.

Gemütlich eingerichtetes cafe mit gutem Kaffee und Tee, sowie Kuchen, Panini, Toast und full english breakfast. Wir hatten Kuchen und Panini, beides sehr lecker. Preislich für die gute Lage vollkommen ok. Die gemütlichen Sofas möchten einen länger bleiben lassen.

Así se encuentra justo encima de la Scottish National Gallery en el montículo. Cuando visitamos parecía ser arreglaba bien con un montón de clientes. Eso nos salvó el día para nosotros, ya que habíamos estado caminando por un tiempo y todos los establecimientos café pasamos estaban llenos. El café era bueno y había una espléndida gama de pasteles, bollos, pasteles, etc. El lugar ideal para un café antes de llegar a la cima de la colina.

Nice stop half way up the walk to the Royal Mile from Princes Street Gardens. Plenty of nice snacks, great service. Memorable Oor Willie cartoon strips on the back of a door on the way to the toilets for those who may remember !!

I arrived in Edinburgh on an early train with time to spare before a Festival event and had an excellent Scottish Breakfast at this friendly and welcoming spot, which was not uncomfortably busy despite the crowds of festival goers (myself included). Friendly staff, good food and prompt service. Recommended.

Als je in Edinburgh bent en het net iets te toeristische kasteel hebt bezocht, is het een goed plan om door te lopen naar Cafe on the Mound. Het lijkt of de toeristen hier nog zijn. Het café ziet er leuk uit en kan er je goed koffie drinken. Ook de gebakjes zijn erg lekker. De bediening is vriendelijk en je komt voor mijn idee toch op een verborgen plekje.

Un ambiente muy acogedor y familiar con un gran servicio al cliente. Todo el personal es muy eficiente y amable. Yo y mi pareja nos obsequiaron con brie y arándano panini con una ensalada frescos y lateral. Nuestro servidor Daniel fue un soplo de aire fresco con sus fuertes tonos escocesa y sonrisa encantadora. This is a great coffee shop to relax from the tourist busy street above in front of the Edinburgh Castle. The coffee shop was not so busy and the services was quick and polite. I recommend this place for good coffee and relaxed atmosphere.

Very disappoionted with service , staff appeared to have a don't care attitude . Ordered coffee , waited almost 20 minutes , no coffee - saw others come in after us and they had drinks & food served - was offered another person's meal ! was reminded of order then given wrong type of coffee - don't appear to know their coffees !! no apology offered .Won't be going back , asked about location of nearby attraction and didn't know where it was when actually across road from them !!

Ci siamo recati nel locale per fare una tipica colazione Scozzese. Ci ha accolti Luana una cameriera Italiana che ci ha servito con grande professionalità e cortesia , facendoci gustare una ricca( ricca è un eufemismo) colazione seguita da un vero caffè all'italiana!! Grande Luana...... !!

Este Café está justo al lado del castillo, el museo de arte y la universidad. Tiene bastantes opciones de comida y bebida. El rollo de salchichas era super satisfactorio y sirvió como el perfecto repostar antes de un largo día de turismo. Mucho espacio para moverse y es un gran lugar para disfrutar de las vistas de la calle de abajo. El aparcamiento es prácticamente inexistente, así que planea llegar allí o tener súper dejará.

Yo y los amigos vienen al café en el Mound frecuentemente durante el período de revisión. Aunque nuestra motivación inicial era su cercanía a la biblioteca, que pronto nos dimos cuenta de que había muchas otras características reseñables. El café tiene una elegancia interior acogedor que favorece un ambiente acogedor y relajado. El personal nunca ha dejado de ser increíblemente servicial y complaciente. El menú es relativamente sencillo, pero la comida siempre delicioso, abundante y preparado rápidamente. El 20% de descuento de estudiante es una ventaja que nos permite comer en el café regularmente. The tomato soup and lemon pound cake were delicious! The cafe is cute and comfortable. The staff are friendly and service is wonderful. Great find as we explored the city.

Situado a mitad de camino, El Mound, cruzando la calle desde el museo, es un excelente lugar donde parar para tomar café y tarta si necesitas un descanso después de caminar de Princes Street (y si estás bajando demasiado! ). Selección limitada de pasteles Cuando aparecimos (mediados/final de la tarde) pero casero.

El desayuno casero en este lugar es uno de los mejores que he probado en mucho tiempo. Muy buenos ingredientes y de un gran valor para el 8 libras. 50. El café está en una ubicación agradable en su visita y tiene unas vistas agradables si sentarse cerca de la ventana. Prácticamente intachable.

We'd heard good things about this cafe and they weren't wrong. We called in here for some cake and a hot drink. A lovely selection of cakes and the hot chocolate was lovely. Friendly service, lovely atmosphere.

Location is great as close to Royal Mile but I bought a juice drink and there was no ice. Coffee very strong.

Having just climbed The Mound from Princess Street on the way to the Royal Mile, I saw the Café on the Mound sign. Since I didn’t have breakfast and it was 1PM already, I thought I would drop in and at least get tea and a scone. When I walked in, the outside foyer had the plaque showing it had received a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence award, so I was immediately encouraged that I was in for a treat.

Unlike a lot of Edinburgh cafes that are so tiny that you have to sit shoulder to shoulder with the people at the next table, this one is spacious, with a high ceiling and lots of natural light coming in through big windows. It's furnished with bih comfortable chairs and sofas that make you want to just settle in. Coffee and tea are very good. I've never had their sandwiches, but their cakes and croissants are good.

Fuimos para un almuerzo rápido después de ir al castillo y fue bien. Mi amigo y yo tuvimos una mayonesa de atún patatas al horno que estaba bien, pero no genial. El papa era bastante pequeño y un poco cruda, y no era lo suficientemente contundente para nuestro gusto. Dicho esto, el servicio fue rápido y el personal era amable.

La cafetería tiene un ambiente acogedor, buen té y sándwiches. Recomiendo su sopa. Incluso nos dieron un precio especial para estudiantes.

Enjoyed a couple of well made cakes in this cafe. They have many teas on offer and serve in a really large pot, enough for over 2 cups of tea. Comfortable, quiet and quick to serve. Goo stop off place.

Found this on our way to another Fringe venue. It was really busy but we managed to get a seat and order soup, tea and cake. Great value for what you get. Drawback toilets are one floor up!

Dropped in here last night for a coffee rather than joining the long queue for Jason Byrne at The Fringe. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and the service was quick and efficient - they even brought our coffees to the table. A hidden gem which we seem to end up in during the Festival every year.

Visited twice whilst we were in Edinburgh for the Fringe. The staff were friendly and obliging; the food was excellent and very much appreciated after trekking round the city for so long! We were ready for a hot drink after a busy day and were pleased to sit down and enjoy the excellent coffee and food. Well done, everyone. We'll definitely visit again.

This became our regular breakfast spot on our trip to Edinburgh. Excellent porridge with honey and sultanas.Spacious high-ceilinged cafe in old building. Friendly helpful staff too. Pleasant spot away from the hurly burly of the Royal Mile or Princes St, but only two minutes walk from Royal Mile and five minutes from Princes St.

Hidden at the foot of the castle (well... near it), overlooking new town... this place is a great find and a little hidden gem. The cakes are delicious, the food is great and the staff are fantastic! Highly recommended!

We called in here for lunch and had some very good soup and bread for a reasonable price. GF bread was available too.

I was in Edinburgh for my granddaughter's graduation staying at VIP apartments just around the corner. We parked for 2 nights on the car park shared by the church and the church book shop which was very convenient for us. We had excellent breakfast 2 mornings before returning home. Would visit again if next in the area.

Full Scottish Breakfast is £7ish I think which is good for Edinburgh prices. When it arrived the Bacon was rock hard (preference I suppose), Toast was cold (the butter wouldn't even melt on it) and the sausages were cut in half's bizarrely. Haggis aside it was a distinctly average tasting breakfast for £7 and I'm being polite. HOWEVER...If you just come in the cafe and look to your right before the fridge you can see a table with high bar style chairs round them. If you sit there on a clear day you can see all the way to the coast and the start of the wind farms, which myself and my girlfriend absolutely loved. She ordered scrambled egg on toast and yes its simple but it was done very well. All fresh pan cooked egg (no microwaved fluff). It did taste great. The staff are friendly and very helpful. You also get a tea or a coffee with your breakfast which is great value. If I would have had a better breakfast it would easily been a 5*. Don't be put off go and try it on your way up to the castle.

We had traditional breakfasts (eggs, bacon, etc) as well as rolls and found it all good. The cakes and other home-baked items looked good as well.
