Best cafe in southend , the service is good and the staff make you feel welcomed. Definitely recommend

This is real cosy cafe as it should be. Traditional food cooked well and at great prices. The staff are bloody brilliant and I actually told one waitress how amazingly fabulous she was! The cafe was busy when we got there and full of people from young to old. Some had walking frames and wheelchairs and mobility scooters. This was a happy environment and all customers seemed happy. The waitress knew so many by their first names and helped them to get settled or to manoever their way to a table if needed. She had a fabulous way with people and managed to balance between serving tables as well as making conversation with the customers!!!! What a star and what a fabulous human being! She is definitely an asset for any cafe or restaurant! No I don’t know this lady in case you a wondering 😇

We came across this place after seeing a sign on the main street. The place was very busy which is a good sign and it has a huge menu with almost everything you can think of. We both went for pie and mash which was excellent and reasonably priced. The place is very clean and the staff are very friendly.

I pop in here on a regular basis for lunch with most of my family at any one time. We all enjoy the variety of breakfasts that are available and the amount of food is always very generous, I have never left wanting more. The jacket potatoes are also very good and have heaps of topping. This is my number one place for lunch based on value, quality, quantity and service.

Very busy today but my friend and I didn't wait long at all for our meals which were really nice. Burger tasted fresh, juicy. Good chips too.

I really enjoyed my visit the food was excellent had some great staff was a bit let down by one in blue glasses as she was a bit rude but other than that would highly recommend everyone else was brilliant and the food arrived on time.

The food was very good, nice staff and the blonde waitress was welcoming and friendly. Would definitely come again!

We have been here before, a number of times. It has always been good but the service was great - meals arrived promptly after ordering and nothing too much trouble. Food arrived very well displayed and plentiful. Lovely girls serving. Very reasonable- big breakfast for £6.20 and my salad was £5.30 . AND bread and butter with it! Thank you cafe munchies. We will be back!

Lovely food and restaurant but hay Oliver's on the beach, for future reference, if your waitress comes in for her Shift in a bad mood send her home. Ruined our first time here for breakfast

Me and my children visited today. My daughter has allergies and the staff were very helpful. The food was amazing and well priced.

I often visit Munchies for lunch and nearly always have a tuna jacket which is huge. My granddaughter thinks their burgers are second to none and trust me she has tried the burgers in every place that sells them in the Southend area. Great value for money, clean and very friendly. I cannot rate them highly enough and at the moment they are offering a take away service which is just as good as their in house service.

Met family members at Munchies for a family breakfast. The place was clean,with staff constantly clearing away used plates etc. The food was cooked and presented nicely, there were four of us and all had a different meal and drinks order which was quite quick to arrive. The portion size was generous and if asked to cook something in a particular way it was no problem.The toilets were spotless,the staff were cheerful and friendly. Very reasonably priced,have visited several times with partner and have been very happy with meals every time. Can be very busy,but staff do not hassle you to leave once your meal is eaten. Highly recommend this cafe.

Took a trip to Munchies as heard it was good. Really nice food at a very reasonable price. I had the No. 3 breakfast, which was great (picture attached). Would definitely recommend this little cafe if you're in Southend and fancy a munch 👍😃

We al work on the Railway and we often have Brunch in Munchies (or as we call it "The Greasy spoon" :) ) The staff here are great, very friendly and the food? Well just order the big Breakfast and prepare to have your tastebuds amazed, a hge plate of food and its delicious. I tried the Double Pie and Mash and was amazed as it was excellent, the liquor was top notch and the pies hit the spot

I visit this café regularly as the food is simple but great value. Great selection of breakfasts and main meals. Where else can you get a choice of roast dinners for £6.00.

If I go with friends for breakfast, as I do once a month or so, we tend to visit an establishment linked to a budget hotel or - more likely - a well-known pub chain. However, I had heard good things about Cafe Munchies - an eatery located just a few yards off the top end of the High Street - so a friend and I gave it a go one morning in early October 2018. After entering, you simply go up to the counter, place your order, find a seat (the place is fairly large, quite deceivingly so), and within minutes you're tucking into your chosen meal.The breakfast menu itself is impressive - at least five choices for carnivores and a couple for vegetarians. I chose one of the veggie options - hash browns, baked beans, mushrooms but substituting the eggs for an extra hash brown, oh, and not forgetting an extra thick slice of bread and butter, plus a mug of tea to wash it all down. Other choices included chicken, burgers (including the veggie variety), fish, chips, salads and, believe it or not, bubble and squeak - that great potato / cabbage based dish which I enjoy immensely on Boxing Day with cold turkey...The food was tasty, the service was friendly and swift and, in terms of value, it was very good but the thing that really stood out for me was the cleanliness. It was spotless - not just in the dining areas, but also the toilets. Top marks for that....So, the Munchies is another place I can add to my list when deciding where to go to eat in the future - and not just for breakfast it seems.

Now a lot of my travel followers know I’m fussy when I eat out. I had no idea where to go to eat for breakfast and only so many mcdonalds when you go away places I can eat before being bored of just hash browns and my daughter mentioned seeing this little cafe that we could try. So after googling it to give directions as she could only remember the name, we went in and took a seat. I saw on the front that orders are to be taken and paid at the counter and a lovely lady that I can’t give enough praise was friendly and polite and helped me out with my daughters breakfast as she wanted specific things and I’m a vegetarian hence the just hash browns normally. The lady helped me out with the order and it came really quickly. The breakfast was really nice and the staff are lovely and friendly. Very much recommend this place to anyone

Have been going here for years and it really is the best cafe I’ve been to ,had most of the food on the menu n believe me ,it’s all delicious .would highly recommend

Well today I was taken to this lovely Cafe by my precious school friends. I had a Prawn Salad.Well must say was the best I have ever had in Southend.They had Ham, egg and chips.My salad was £4.40 and was a bargain.as was theirs.They had a childs portion.Must say that this is a friendly, good value Cafe, and no two ways about it this will be my regular place when coming to Southend.Well done for good value,! and not ripping people off!!xx

This is a great place to get a good selection of foods you would expect to find on a cafe menu. The food taste great and all at a reasonable price to. Can get very busy here and sometimes food can take longer to get out when busy but quality always good.

Went into cafe munchies in Southend today cos it was recommended to me by a friend . Myself , my mum and niece all had pie mash and liquor . It was delicious and served hot. the pies were deep and filled with meat and the liquor was just like I remember it as a kid in London . Loads of proper mash . All in all a good sized portion . The staff were very friendly . And even tho the proprietor was busy as the place was packed he still had time to be courteous and friendly to us . Upon using the toilets I was surprised at how sparkling clean they were - a rarity these days imo. We will defiantly go back for more ..value for money and a very nice and clean establishment .

We were recommended to try this café by a friend & we were not disappointed, the staff there are very friendly & the service was good, we enjoyed our stay there & found the cost of everything to be very reasonable.

Some people will moan on here about the lack of table service. These people can't read signs. There is no table service at this place, the waitresses serve the food, and clean tables, but they dont take your order. You have to go to the counter and order, then everything comes to your table. The fried bread is awesome here, and so are all the breakfasts. good value and busy atmosphere but be prepared for some odd characters in there. The staff work hard and never stop cooking, cleaning and coffee making. Myself and a few mates use this as a regular weekend cafe. The menu is quite comprehensive so I can't recommend all of it.

Came here Saturday morning around 10ish as we both just fancied a quick breakfast in a café. Sat down and was not sure if you were meant to get up to order or if it was waitress service, anyway we sat down as we saw an older lady going round taking food to people and cleaning tables. We assumed she would come to us eventually, she basically never did. It was like she had seen us and chose not to serve us. We gave her the benefit of the doubt and waited another 10 mins - she still chose to speak to/serve/clean tables - anything but come to us, it was like she made eye contact but not quite then carried on what she was doing. We gave up and left. Shame as it was just what we were after but random experience to say the least. As we got up to go out she said "bye see you later" ?!?!!

Went here today for first time, the place is spotless, the staff friendly, fast service and it has very good prices. Had breakfast with my Mrs. We had a traditional British fry up with Bubble & Squeek, yum! It was delicious, tea/coffee and toast/B&B; was included in the price. Excellent stuff. Recomended

This cafe never fails, fresh fast clean and good value for money. They offer lots of choice on the menu. The staff are warm and friendly and happy to help. If you like cafe’s this is an excellent choice for central southend love having a breakfast here.

My daughter and I popped in for lunch. It was our first visit here and have since been back. The food is cooked int he kitchen which you can see when you place your order. You pay for your food when you order it. There's plenty of tables but you're not cramped. It's clean and good value for money. Didn't have to wait long for our food either.

We only noticed this place by chance and as it was very busy, thought it must be ok. And it was. Staff very friendly and service quick. I suppose it is a bit tired looking but the tables were kept clean and the prices were reasonable. I had the pie and mash and if I am honest it was not up to standard and the liquor was a bit tasteless. But my husband enjoyed his meal and there is plenty more to choose from.

Often found here just having a coffee and a chat. Free internet and lovely vibe. Food is good wholesome cafe food. Cheap meal for family

I've been to this cafe on several occasions for breakfast and it's always been nice. It's a very reasonable price and they do children's portions. It's a little dingy in decoration, a traditional greasy spoon if you like, but I can't fault the cleanliness. Would recommend and I will be returning

Had the munchies and being Father's Day I knew that the usual haunts would be busy!Wanted to get some brunch without the fuss and my partner suggested this place.Been a few times but almost forgotten about it as it isn't on the high st.So glad she remembered!The service is friendly and efficient without feeling rushed.The food is homely and good portion size and excellent value for money.Will use more now I've remembered its there!

Always quick service, top food, always takeaway because it's always quite busy in there but that's not a bad thing! It's busy because the food is good

We found this gem last year and we have been regularly ever since. We have always been served great food, their prices are great, especially since it is in town and they have many options on the menu. We generally go for breakfast, but we have also been for lunch and sampled their baked potatoes and omelets. You get a free tea or coffee with the breakfast, but I drink neither, so they swap it out for another drink and I pay the difference, very helpful and great service. Would highly recommend.

Regularly go here with my boyfriend, friends and family too and always love the traditional British fry ups from here. Excellent service and never left waiting for my food and good prices too! Will always be my first choice for breakfasts/lunch when in the town centre :)

This is such a typical British cafe! Luckily for me there is enough on the menu for me to have a vegan fry-up - hash browns, chips or bubble and squeak, baked beans, fried mushrooms and onion rings. The service always seems quick no matter how packed they are, they are very friendly and polite staff and the prices are very good. I've been here many times and will continue to visit frequently!

My friends & I have been visiting this cafe for over 2 years, & have never had a bad meal, we generally go there every Saturday, & we all enjoy the food, hospitality & the lovely staff!!Cannot fault this place!!

This was my first time at this restaurant, as I used to use another one in the town, but that changed hands recently and went downhill, so had to find somewhere new to eat, and what a find. Staff were polite and helpful. Food was good and plenty of choice. Price was average for the meal.Called at breakfast time about 8.30 on a Saturday, and there were already about 20 people in there for breakfast. Placed my order and took my seat. My drink was with me in about 3 minutes and the food arrived after about 10 minutes, freshly cooked and tasted delicious. Just enough to start the day's shopping. Will definitely go back there again, next time I am in the town.

its atmoshpere reminded me a canteen. i was in lunch time and was packed. their prices is cheap. but just one waitress around on that busy period. she was very kind. Breakfast's portions are big and quality is avarage

had to wait ages for ny food probarly a staff shortage or something. the chips and egg were ok but the gammon waa way over cooked was like chewing leather maybe next time i order a sandwich but it was not too expensive and the staff were polite

Very welcoming atmosphere. Elegantly decorated, top rating for food preparation. Delicious food and cakes- all home baked. The smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich was the best I've had anywhere. Homemade quiches are a speciality. Although newly opened it is already very popular through word of mouth

Once again, visited Café Munchies twice last week, my Mum had her usual, chips, fried toms, mushrooms and egg. I only had plain omelette this time as not too hungry, it was so good and I finished off Mums, (she has a small appetite). Took my girls for a Roast, again, excellent quality. Service is always prompt, tables cleared straight away, ( puts me off my food seeing dirty tables)prices are extremely reasonable. My Mum always says the liquor is good with the pie and mash,not runny like some !! Always recommend to friends.

I had a delightful pie and mash two days running. If I go to Southend again, I will be back.The baked potatoes on sale here were massive.If I go back and like the roasts, I'll give back the one star I have deducted due to a slightly wilted salad.What the heck - for the money we paid... I'll give it five stars anyway.This place had the relaxed, but busy vibe of a real cafe. Not a coffee shop, but a place all sorts of people can go to eat food, drink tea, and hang out. Almost worth going to Southend just for that.

My mum and I have eaten there 3 times now the place is always packed but you are never kept waiting and it's delicious, one waitress , goodness. Knows how she does it but she is brilliant, definitely going back very reasonable as well!

Went for breakfast today. A group of us had stayed for the night in a local Travelodge, Wanted an early breakfast, although there were other places about, most never opened till 10.00ish, we wanted to eat before this and luckily asked someone who said this was the best breakfast in the town. They weren't wrong. Four of our group had the big breakfast, one the veggie option, one just toast. Lovely fry up, no grease at all, freshly cooked. Really lovely food and well frequented by locals. *a definite one to visit*
