Cafe Morrison in St. Helens

We won’t be eating in a Morrisons Cafe anytime soon. We couldn’t find a clean table to sit at, so had to find a member of staff to clean one. Then we had to dry it off ourselves as left swimming with whatever was on the cloth. The automatic hot drink machines are not fit for purpose. There was only one machine which had coffee beans in, so this caused a queue. The milky coffee was too strong and not milky, so I was offered more cups and to try again. We opted for a cappuccino this time, it was more like a black coffee with scum floating on top. By this time our food had arrived and I wasn’t prepared to rejoin the queue to try another option. The breakfast was okay, poor quality sausage, nearly raw tomato and barely toasted bread which was soggy having been buttered with something greasy. We asked for a refund for our drinks. This is the third Morrisons cafe we have tried and is no better than Southport and New Brighton, though probably had a cleaner floor. Morrisons this is a shambles, get your act together and get rid of the automated coffee machines, train your staff and tell them to stop hiding the kitchen dancing and joking around when there is work to be done front of house! With the prices you charge you can also afford decent cutlery!

Firstly, no cold bottled drinks in the fridge as fridges werent working. Fizzy drinks machine also not working. 'Clean' trays absolutely filthy and clearly hadnt even been wiped down, leaving tea/coffee stains and a sticky film. Tables havent been wiped down, chair not touched there were food crumbs all over the place and the staff clearly cant be bothered. Absolute disgrace. Dont know how they are still allowed to serve food.

Went for breakfast two cafe staff stood chatting refused to serve shouting at us "use the self service order point". The order point became stuck, the staff still chatting made it 100% clear that they were NOT there to help. No wonder the cafe was totally empty with such rude staff! Won't be eating here again! Buyet beware

Ordered two cheese and ham toasties and 2 lattes , worst toasties ever they were just really soggy and rocket salad didn't look fresh , drinks out of machine lukewarm I'm sorry I didn't go back with it all to complain , never again !!!

Worst cooked breakfast I have ever payed for 😕 Cold, and tasteless meal. Selected poached egg and it wal like a hard boiled egg with solid yolk. Awful experience, never again.

great food, always hot, altho the time to wait for the food can be long when they are very busy. would still go again to eat

Called in here to grab quick bite as I was nearby. The general feel of the place is pretty depressing, the food reminds me of School Dinners the way it's served up, although the Chicken And Leek pie was pretty good 👍 The Coffee was pretty dire, lukewarm and tasteless and at £1.70 a complete rip-off (it's the same coffee machine you see at Wetherspoons where they serve Lavazza coffee for £1.50 with free refills - Morrison's must be raking it in 😲 ). Food was served quickly, staff were polite and friendly. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, there's got to be better nearby, surely..?

Appalling! To start with only managed to get 1/2 a hot drink before all drinks machines ran out, waited almost 10 mins to get a member of staff to sort it out, food came out as soon as I sat down with drinks and mine was as cold as if it’d come out of a fridge, Husband’s was like warm so he ate his, I returned mine and waited about 5-20 mins and same meal came out and 1/2 was fridge cold and other half Luke warm, I couldn’t be bothered to complain again as staff really don’t care, and I expect nothing would have been done anyway, then came the pudding which was nuclear hot and with a disgusting film on the top, needless to say Morrison’s u need to get ur act together! Badly done by a bad group of staff!

Not sure whats happened to this usually super Morrisons Breakfast. After a hard mornings work down the allotment - there's usually nothing finer that a Morrisons Breakfast at Boundary Road. After £ 13 for the two of us felt quite disappointed. The breakfast took ages to come - infact you know something is wrong when the numbers after you start getting theirs......... On arrival the poached eggs were as hard as golf balls and the food was just ward - what seemed to have caused the trouble was the black pudding I ordered which was absolutely red hot- I'm guessing the 2 meals had been left out on the side until the black pudding was ready The fried bread was fried to destruction and being a crust could have been used to replace a paving slab ! So off we went pretty disappointed - didn't complain at the time as we arent really like that and the folks were very busy dealing with other customers

I needed to go to supermarket after school so we decided to go to the café and when I was there the food was fantastic even better when I found out after 3 o’clock my children eat free.

The big breakfast is an amazing hearty meal at probably 50per cent less than anywhere else. Not posh but you definitely get great value for money and for this reason recommend.

While a self serve coffee area isn't a bad thing, this particular one is in desperate need of a deep clean. One of the two machines is out of order, so we had to wait. There's spilled drinks and filth all over this area and the cutlery/sauce area next to it. The spoons were absolutely rank, encrusted with the previous users food/drinks/mouth pieces. Luckily we didn't order food as there was a guy complaining at the time that he'd been waiting an hour (which seems to be standard here). The main point here is that it's not for a lack of trying, the staff are running around ragged trying to get on top of it, yet it seems Morrisons won't give them adequate staff hours to cover the shift properly.

Had a nice breakfast here waiting for MOT locally. Not very quick service but that's freshly cooked. Good food though.

We have been using this place for breakfast for the last few weeks and have really been impressed. Its obvious its been done up quite recently and looks really nice. We have never had anything less than the most courteous of staff, sometimes times you have to wait a bit for your food but if its coming freshly cooked (apart from the sausages) its worth the wait, Would recommend it.

I have been coming here on and off since the store opened in the late 90s, the first few years of operation it was a nice place to come, with decent cafe food and staff who actually smiled and said words like "hello" and "please" and "thank you". It has recently had a make over so it's only slightly less worse than it used to be, but the problems of recent years remain. The 'clean' cutlery looks dirty and often there isn't any of it, the tea tastes like cheap Basics tea bags, the coffee is like granulated soil and, apart from the sandwiches which are ok, the hot food is greasy and unappetising. To be fair to Morrisons, the Tesco cafe up the road isn't much cop either but that's no excuse for not doing it better. Most of the staff, in common with the rest of the store, seem to actually hate the customers with an intense passion, it's extraordinary to behold. I can only think they are really overworked or just not customer-focused as they just ooze contempt for customers. Add in dirty/sticky tables, and floors with squashed chips on and I think I'll pass on coming back. Even worse, while I was in there nearly every table needed clearing yet one of the managers out of the store came in to help but spent the whole time just tidying up the sandwich display. Is anyone actually charge?

We went at lunchtime. Food was delivered without too much waiting and was hot and fresh. Staff were pleasant and friendly.

Waiting ages for our breakfast, as usual drinks are cold by the time breakfast arrives, this particular day we asked for our money back, as we were forgotten about and the number after us was served instead. Tables are never cleaned quickly, so afraid we won't be going back.

I don't think I'd have a meal here again as the service was awful. By the time we got our meal, our hot drinks were cold.

After removing the old Static table and chairs, now much better. Food Clean Hot well presented, and of good quality.

One of the staff only know to me as debbie thought that she would offer herself on a plate too. Now I don't have a husband. Watch out ladies. Don't let your husbands go there alone!!!!!

The best place for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the flying start breakfast is amazing, as is the chicken salad and gorgeous fish, it beats chipmunk fish and that's a great endorsement. Very good value and lovely staff

Bueno para una escapada rápida y un tentempié, tendemos a no comer si está muy lleno, así que no estás buena comida garantizada de acuerdo a las otras críticas, y de la experiencia pasada, como servicio puede ser lento y porciones tibios o sobre-cocinados. No tenemos un problema con nuestras observaciones comprobadas.

My wife and I visited here one Thursday evening and not only was the restquadrant clean but the food was aactually well presented and served quite quickly. The prices are very reasonable a I would recommend the Scampi and Chips.

Para un supermercado, la comida es muy buena. Hay un montón de opciones para todos los gustos el café está abierto durante la mayor parte del día y es muy elegante y limpio.

Since our last visit it now looks and feels so much nicer with the great offer food menus.The Chciken Tikka Massala is still the best one that we have ever tasted ..... yes better than the Indian local ...... no kidding and just a fiver

Called at half term with our grandson and his friend.Waited 30 mins for the meal to be delivered Asked after 20 mins to be told they were busy! And they were waiting for burgers ??It was at this point I wanted to leave !!When the meals came... the adults meals were lukewarm and the kids were to hot eaBy then I just wanted the children to eat and leave tSo disappointing

We have eaten at Morrison's Cafe on several occasions. There is a large choice of meals or freshly made sandwiches. The meals are all very reasonably priced. For each adult meal a child eats free at certain times making it really good value. All meals care cooked to order.We have had the fish which is delicious and the Jacket Potatoes are lovely and soft. It is a lovely end to your shopping.

Waited 30 mins for a full English on a day when from what I could see where 5 other tables waiting for food, does it really take that long to cook a breakfast, not like it's all cooked fresh. When the food did come it was tasteless and lukewarm plus I had to buy another pot of Tea due to the wait ! Maybe it was an off day but I won't be going back and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone

Called in at 1.30 for a bit to eat, at the time the young lady on the till was under extreme pressure. She was trying to deal with a queue at the till, deal with a lack of cups, cutlery and milk, asking everyone to "bare with her". Not her fault it's a failure of management organising the staff at lunch time. Full marks for the girl on the till, staff development training need for the management!!

Had the full English breakfast. The bacon and sausages were undergone an cold, beans were frazzled, mushrooms swimming in oil .. a genuine roadway to indigestion. Eat at any Morrison's at your own peril :(

Always enjoy food here whether a meal or cake and coffee. Service and clearing up can be a bit slow but then again cafe does get very busy. Place has had a facelift and looks really nice and bright with new tables and chairs. Negative reviews are a bit unfair It's a supermarket cafe not a fine dining establishment. Good offers on kid's meals and good choice of food.

Went on the spur of the moment for a late breakfast and the full English breakfast was very nice. I did not want hash browns so they automatically gave me the choice to add to the breakfast at no extra cost, which is good.The staff were friendly and the place was clean and not too busy when I went mid morning. It does sometimes get very busy with shoppers stopping for food before going home.Not expensive for food and fairly comparable to most similar eating venues. The portion size was reasonable and value for money.

Visited for breakfast and was disappointed by quality of food and poor customer service. Even though was promotion on kids breakfast 3 items for 99p I was charged for individual items although eggs were cooked nicely everything else was spoilt particularly toast which came already buttered and was cold and soggy however was good value for money. Didn't like fact that the cups for cold drinks were displayed in such a way that the smaller size cups were hard to find and not easily identified.

We've been here a couple of times. The cutlery is always dirt, you have to search the tray for clean ones. We've been twice for breakfast and both times it arrived cold. Never going again.

3 years since we last visited the cafe and it has not improved. The tea had a horrible taste . Chips were undercooked and cold everything about it was nasty and cheap including the cutlery. Will not be returning.

This is a fairly typical superstore café; the staff gave the impression that they'd rather be anywhere else than there! Food was 'eventually' served, couldn't tell whether crockery was clean as it had clearly through the dishwasher hundreds of times and had the scratches and chips to prove it. Went for breakfast but wasn't confident that it was very hygienically prepared so opted to leave it.

This place is somewhere we go on a regular basis for food whilst out shopping. It is about as average as you can get, the only aspect that isn't average are the toilets they are truly rank. however they do not stop us from returning the week after.

I don't understand why it took so long for them to bring me my food. There weren't many other people eating and we only ordered basic breakfast items that you would assume would be being cooked constantly at that time of the morning. They also cram all of the food ordered on tiny plates, which is very challenging for child to keep their food on the plate.

Had a cake and a cuppa after shopping, my custard tart was ok but my tea was poor. The BOSS had a cappuccino which was fine but her strawberry cheesecake was not that good.

Tried this cafe when doing some Sunday shopping. There is a decent menu at reasonable prices and the food was pleasant however there is a long wait between ordering and service. Fast food this is not.

New coffee machines are a bit slow. Leather seating are a nice addition and more suited to a relaxing drink if not eating

It's simply horrible, dated, complacent staff. The toilets are a disgrace to Morrisons, they absolutely stink. A sign on the door saying Gents would be much better that the biro written sign. Come on Morrisons up your game.

I decided to eat here rather than return home to cook something as I was pushed for time. I was remarkably and pleasantly surprised to have a wonderful meal of Scampi and chips that would be equivalent to a meal at any mainstream decent restaurant. The service and food were both exemplary

There are some really good deals to be had here and since my last review the 2 meal deal and free drinks offer (£9) is now available earlier after 3pm ...... great for a very late lunch or very early tea.Yes the wait can be around 20 mins or so for cooked food but it just depends on how busy and how full it is .... if in a hurry then go for the super fab and super cheap sandwiches ..... order chips at the same time and they will come quickly.

This place seriously need to get a grip before they experience epic fail.No matter how busy or not busy the cafe is there is always a ridiculous wait for food - which is by the way nothing special.No matter what requests you make to your order ie change the sausage for egg on a breakfast etc they never fail to get it wrong!A handful of the staff actually care and don't deserve this negative review but the rest are just as poor as the food and service.

The cafe at Morrisons in St Helens is a dreadful place to visit; I've eaten a couple of times there but I won't come back.It's true that it is relatively cheap to eat, but at a cost. Service is rude & unhelpful, there is usually no cutlery available (therefore you have to ask those rude and unhelpful members of staff for some), tables are left uncleared & dirty, and then the food arrives...Last time I ordered a brekkie, it took over half an hour to get to my little table. My server was clearly either hungover or stoned. The food was dreadful: undercooked bacon, very overcooked, gristly sausages, cold baked beans, a rubbery fried egg, undercooked uncrispy hash browns, and the toast had been plopped on the plate so when I I first looked at my meal it was already soggy as the toast was soaking up the cold bean juice and fat from the plate.Go elsewhere.

This Cafe Morrison follows the same pattern as pretty much all other Cafe Morrisons but the one in St. Helens is a very large cafe and open all day from breakfast to early evening.The really good thing are the prices ....... so much cheaper than the usual High Street chains. Some of the fab things on offer are the many different platters of sandwiches (the egg and cress) is cheap and good.Their chicken tikka masala is really really good and the best one that we have tasted. And their fish and chips is award winning and it is amazing.Tip 1: arrive after 4pm for the early evening meal deals (2 main courses and 2 drinks) for £9Tip 2: One pot of tea will make two full mugs ....... saving you even more, just take 2 mugs with your one pot!
