Cafe Kitale in North Norfolk

We were on holiday and wanted our lunch. Called into the cafe, we were going to have the cottage pie, I asked if there were peas in it, I was told yes, so I said I only wanted one then for my husband, and I’d have the liver & onions with mash and bacon strips. When it came the gravy was mixed with peas, lots of them mixed in with it! Peas was not mentioned on the menu,I could’ve taken it back,but they were busy, so I just moved it all around abit. I went home hungry, and they are £12 better off. Lovely cafe, roomy, polite. But not again. I hate peas!

Good breakfast, very much enjoyed the smashed avocado and poached eggs, just didn’t need the salad for breakfast. Good value!

Passing through North Walsham today, crucially rather hungry, from the Market Place we spotted Cafe Kitale at the far end of St. Nicholas Court and thought it worth a try. A very pleasant surprise - the interior well set out, clean and tidy, with plenty of room , especially for families and mums with their kids and pushchairs, we noticed. Reception when ordering from a varied menu was cheerfully helpful and polite as was the table service but, most importantly, our breakfast portions which turned up quickly were just so generous, perfectly cooked and very tasty. (Their graduated cooked breakfast size/price menu an interesting system, i.e. from "Sensibly Small" to "All the Options Until You Burst!") In conclusion, what stood out, though, was that everyone seemed very happy to be there, enjoying food and drink - and that Cafe Kitale enabled and encouraged socialising. The icing on the cake was discovering that the cafe (and its local charity shop) sponsors and helps support Kitale School Uganda.

Got here at midday! Found a table and hubby ordered our meal! Waited and waited! Hubby had to put more time on the car! About 30mins later we got our meal. I know theyre busy. But get more staff as we were ready to walk out.

Had two amazing breakfasts cooked by Diane and Lauren, great value for money. And tasted great. Also had a lovely pot of tea and a great chia lattee. Made by James and Christa. Service by George who was polite. 😊😁 Thank you all.

This always seems a popular busy cafe, so I guess they must have been having an off-day when we visited recently for the first time for breakfast. My friend ordered the full english breakfast, which looked quite sparse when it arrived on its big plate. He ate the few few beans and hash brown, but the bacon and sausage were hard and well over cooked. By contrast his fried egg was very undercooked, still raw on top. I had scrambled egg on toast, which tasted lovely (nice thickly cut fresh bread), but then had to run for the loo about 20 mins later (sorry if that's too much info!) so something wrong there, I think. On leaving, we saw 2 other breakfast plates with abandoned fried eggs too. I wonder how a kitchen can operate without the cook having the most basic of skills such as frying an egg properly?!

Large roll for a fair price, however the roll wasn't as fresh as expected and the tuna was a bit bland. But for it's price, it was more than acceptable. I enjoyed it, though I wish the bread was more fresh.

The Kitale does an all day breakfast. I arrived just before three and was delighted to be served breakfast. Tasty, hot and the joy of sitting outside.

The wife and I stopped by for a full English and we enjoyed them very much. Quality locally sourced ingredients that were cooked to perfection. Two lovely cups of coffee also. Nice clean environment and a great vibe about the place.

Already been here twice during our holiday. Had lunch and then another visit for drinks. The staff are very friendly and efficient despite the cafe being very busy. Very reasonable prices and large portions. The cake is lush! There is seating outside overlooking the church.

Stopped here for lunch. It is a bog standard cafe, but it was extremely busy. It is obviously a very popular cafe. My wife and I opted for the fish pie with cheesy mash. It was the biggest and tastiest fish pie I have had for years. The mash was delicious and the fish was in large chunks and plenty of it. Our niece had the liver and bacon. She said this was really lovely with lots of liver and a lovely gravy and served with mash. It was a very nice meal.

Great place for an All day Breakfast and more. Always busy and friendly staff. Good quality products used instead of cheap items

I recently visited Cafe Kitale with a friend for lunch. The food was delicious and met with my expectations. The staff were also very polite and welcoming, and have to say that I was equally impressed by how clean the cafe was.

We come here every few months as it’s only a mile down the road. We’ve supported this lovely local business for many years and rob and his team are just excelling! It’s so lovely on a Saturday seeing how busy it is :) this week we had breakfasts, and a hugeeee jacket potatoe! Such great presentation of food. Milkshakes are to DIE FOR!!! Prices are reasonable and the place is lovely and clean. Staff are super nice and I look forward to our trip next month. super dog friendly - which is refreshing for local businesses. Ps if you fancy a takeaway, their new place “kitale Go” on the market place is divine!!! Their hog roasts are the nicest I’ve ever had - and again such lovely staff. Definately worth checking out!! And again doggy friendly :) thanks rob for making north walsham such a great place!

I prefer this cafe to costa north walsham,there is room to move,we had bacon breakfast baps and coffee at very reasonable prices,loads of bacon,so full I won't need lunch.

This is my favourite North Walsham cafe, it’s such a friendly place, nothing is too much trouble. Popped in for lunch over the weekend and my young son loved the chocolate cake so much he asked for the recipe and no hesitation the chef came out of the kitchen and wrote the recipe down for him even though it was really busy with every table full. Superb customer service and tasty food, thank you!

Stopped for lunch after a walk around the town, my husband & I were really impressed with our lunch at the Café Kitale. We both went for burgers and boy was the Beef patty good. It was a simple, tasty and satisfying meal and now we know where to go for lunch the next visit. The staff were friendly and the service was good. Thank you

What a super little find in North Walsham. Well worth seeking out. Stopped here for breakfast after a wonderful holiday in Mundesley. Lovely food, attentive staff, dog friendly. What more could you ask for.

Nice little no-nonsense cafe in a little courtyard near the church. Clean, tidy and the food was great. We had breskfast baps which were delicious and a nice cappuccino too. Prices were about right. We had to wait a bit for food but they told us up front and they were busy. We had nowhere to rush off too so it was fine. In the end it was worth the wait.

I’ve lived in North Walsham for 16 years and today was my first trip to Cafe Kitale. I honestly don’t know what took us so long! The menu is superb and the vegetarian breakfast was excellent, the best offering locally. My children loved their food...

We ate their tomato soup with super seeded brown bread, Victoria sandwich cake, cod burger with fries, coleslaw and salad. My dark hot chocolate drink was just right, not too sweet, and their tea was also very good.

What an excellent and friendly place - we arrived at North Waltham unplanned but needed breakfast - found nowhere that we liked the look of and were just about to give up & walk back to the car but spied some chairs outside so went...

We had a Friday treat, a delivered takeaway from Cafe kitale and we’re not disappointed, we will certainly re- order at some point but in the mean time good luck with the business during lock down and thank you

This cafe is a little tucked away but is very popular with the locals, if I’m in town this is my cafe of choice for a coffee and a light bite, great little charity shop opposite with same name, well worth a visit

Cafe Kitale helped us out with catering for a small wake after a funeral, We chose the afternoon tea which was all freshly made and all carefully packed. The sandwiches were made with lovely bread and tasty fillings. Lemon drizzle cake was lovely and so...

Love this place. Freindly staff and great food served with a smile. The apple cake can be served warm with cream or ice cream. The owner makes it himself and is lush. Would definitely recommend if you are visiting North walsham.

Central venue for for meeting up with friends and is affordable with a varied menu. Friendly service and certainly good value meals.

Absolutely love coming to this cafe, the staff are so lovely and friendly and very helpful and flexible. Everyone’s always smiling and the atmosphere is great. Also the food is so tasty and a good price, only downfall is they close early and stop serving food about an hour before closing. Other than that would highly recommend!!

I live in North Walsham had a day off work so went for a lovely fry up after the school drop off, lovely local sausages and superb coffee. I know the owner Rob and he is very friendly and does an immense amount for the regeneration of our town.

We went in for breakfast and to be honest I was pleasantly surprised by the tasty bubble and squeak breakfast we had. It’s not pretentious in here, but was clean, welcoming and satisfying. Seek it out for breakfast I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Comfortable seating. Good menu selection. Family friendly service. Fresh cakes on display that look scrumpy. Good selection of coffees etc.

I never really bothered considering this cafe as somewhere to eat, as I didn't think they served a very good choice of food, but when I went in there a few days ago with my friends, I was very surprised at the variety of dishes they serve. I had a breakfast, which was only £6, and I was able to swap some of the items. The service is very quick, despite often being busy, and the food tastes lovely. I shall be returning more often for my lunch, however, the cleanliness of the cafe is not too great, as the cutlery can sometimes be slightly dirty, and the floor is slippery, otherwise it is a great place for grabbing some lunch, or a coffee.

Coffee good but you have to wait for it. Service is slow, slow, slow.we sat outside and after ordering, had to go back inside and ask if we had been forgotten. Maybe staff that day were not on the ball. I would return but only if I had extra time on my hands.

I visit here at least every few weeks as I live local. It’s a nice place to catch up with friends and it’s the only place in North Walsham who can fit in pushchairs! Lovely reasonably priced food. Paninis, sarnies, fry ups. I usually go for a nice milkshake and bit of cake! They are amazing milkshakes!

Popped in here on a Thursday morning. The cafe was very busy. The sausage rolls they have here are very good, huge too I would definitely recommend. Might be worth asking the staff to leave the tea bag in or to put the milk in yourself, our teas were very weak.

Often eat here. Food good value for money. Service quick. Staff friendly. Places to sit out in the summer. One of the rare cafes that welcomes dogs. Wide variety of clientele, from old folk, to families with children.

This cafe is clearly very popular as it was packed on a Thursday lunchtime. The staff were pleasant and the food quality was very good for the price paid and promptly served. I had the bacon and Brie panini. My only grumble would be that the bacon was not smoked and did lack flavour although the quality was good but that's my preference and we did feel pressured to leave as they were stacking chairs on tables at 1.30pm which I would associate as being peak eating time. Other than that for a small cafe in a small town the overall service and quality was good and would highly recommend.

No puedo hablar lo suficientemente bien del café, tiene un ambiente cálido, amable y personal ha sido muy amable y paciente con nosotros. La comida es sencilla pero sana, bien presentada y con precios razonables, en particular me encanta el batidos y siempre una tentadora selección de tartas frescas!

Called in for coffee and a sandwich with a friend we ordered coffees and two toasted ham and cheese sandwiches although not busy at all we had a 30 min wait for our sandwich by witch time we had finished our coffees .not knocking the food as sandwiches were lovely but the wait was too long and just basic quick sandwiches was ordered .

Couple of the staff are really rude and grumpy. Food was average and overpriced. Wouldn't try for a second time.

This place is good. Accessible wifi and great quality food and drinks. We had the Toffee cake which was superb. The space is open and light. With options to sit in cosy slugs or sofas Aswell as general dining. The menu is simple and affordable. Place lacks a little character and atmosphere, decor is fairly plain.Plenty of Pokestops nearby with low level Pokemon in the area. Caught a Gloom just outside.

An excellent place to go for breakfast the downside is the attitude of the manager. still it is his loss and somebody elses gain

The decoration is very modern, the food is delicious, the staff are friendly and it is a nice place to sit for a little while for a coffee. Only downside is they don't serve any food apart from cake after 1 o'clock, but over all, excellent place.

Had a lovely catch up with friends in here today over a very yummy "all day breakfast"There's a great selection on the menu and specials board and the staff are always really friendly. The car park is literally two minutes walk away.

Popped in for a quick snack whilst in North Walsham. Order two baked potatos one with chesses and the other with Chilli was warned the chilli had a bit of a kick. The arrived quickly both large potatoes with loads of filling and a nice salad and coleslow. Yes the chilli did have quite a kick and good flavour.

We stopped for a sandwich and soup and, after 15 mins wait [the place was empty] we enquired if it would take much longer. A few minutes later , a very nice toasted sandwich was produced, along with an almost empty bowl of soup and a broken up baguette. There were probably four soup spoons of soup in the bowl, so I called the waitress and politely asked if this was all you get for £4. She asked if I wanted a 'double portion' and I said I would just like a proper portion.She then started to shout and said I should have my money back and stop being rude to her. I was not rude at any time, I just asked for what I paid for.She threw the money on the table and left.To be fair, the man [owner?] did come to apologise for the small portion, but said, as we were 'in a hurry' he had insisted she brought it out.My husband's sandwich was delicious and generous and the same price as the soup and bits of baguette. It makes no sense.

Food can not fault lovely however place seems to be really dirty theese days tables floors toilets ect. I had a meal here and I was violently ill after Deffo food. Keep up your cleaning and get.more customers return

Nice enough sandwich in a shabby run down arcade. Feel a bit sorry for them really because the place is ok but let down by its surroundings. The coffee was very nice and the sandwiches fresh and chunky. Staff freindly and all in all a nice lunch

Rude staff dont treat customers very well ,would not set foot in the place again.The added smell of smoke from customer smoking outside and smell of grease from the kitchen really put me off

This is great value, great food and and a great atmosphere. Great cafe for a breakfast or a takeaway stick, perfect for the working man, family during the week or weekend and everything in between

Really rate the food but was dismayed to see a member of staff standing behind the counter picking food out of her teeth with no apparent regard to food hygiene & in full view of all the customers which was not a pleasant sight.

Back again for another snack; my partner had the full English breakfast, which as usual is top quality and cook to perfection. I decided to have a tuna mayo bagette, just right! Is one of our regular places to have breakfast now AND you can take your dog in too. They should really have a sign stating dogs are welcome.

Second time here for breakfast, this time with my daughter who had heard bad reviews about it. Had small breakfast but still ample to fill you up. Everything cooked just right and not a long wait. My daughter was impressed and will be returning again.

Visited today as one of four adults and two children after attending the farmers market. Prompt and pleasant service, good food and spacious,clean surroundings. Perhaps a few more gluten free options would be good. Would come again and recommend to friends..

Had breakfast here Saturday 24th Jan; very nicely cooked, just right and plenty on plate. Very good value for money. Only downside was saw the lady cook in kitchen lick her fingers then handle a customers plate to take out. Would definately eat there again and try something different; all the food that came out was well presented.

we went to cafe kitale for lunch to say good bye to 2014, as a chef my self i am a bit of a critic but the food was cook beautiful, the cafe was clean and tidy for a busy cafe and would like to say thank you to the staff for the warm welcome and hope to see you again soon.

Been here many times, normally while waiting for a daughter to finish a gym class. usually have a latte and a bacon roll, and both are good. Sometimes joined by my wife and other offspring, and they have cakes. Have also eaten the fry-up which was great value. Its a local cafe, friendly and always clean when I've been, a great spot to read the paper due to the great light from the large glass wall.

Have been visiting Kitale since it opened. It has a lovely atmosphere. Food portions are huge - very good variety on menu to choose from. Tea/Coffee always hot. Fresh scones and cake. Never had cause to complain. Staff is friendly, attentive. It is family friendly, easy access for disabled folks, affordable, well attended.

A very friendly atmosphere, with friendly staff, lovely hot chocolate and the food is very tasty and the price is good for what you get, I normally use this cafe to chill after spending a few hours looking after my two year old. The floor sometimes gets messy but that's because the local builders working on the church tower always use the cafe for lunch.

Came here near xmas on a Monday morning with my little girl. Coffee was excellent and all staff very friendly especially the owner Rob. Cracking doorstop toast and little one enjoyed beans on toast. Prices very reasonable and cafe clean modern and airy. A very pleasant cafe for our town.

Great food, great service, and the story behind this cafe is amazing, as it is linked to Kitale village in Uganda, and the people here really care about what tbey at doing. I dont understand the reviews stating that it isnt clean as i have never seen it anything else other than spotless.

I visit cafe kitale on quite a regular basis. The are a wide array of options on the menu and something for everyone. The food served is simple like english breakfasts and panini's but its some of the best food around the county. The cafe itself has a very spacious feel and the staff are always very helpful and friendly to me and my family. The cafe always seems to be bustling with people and there is always a friendly local kind of atmosphere. If you are ever in North Walsham , this would be the place that you should eat in :)

Me and my girlfriend visited whilst we had free time. We both had breakfasts but due to some of the breakfasts containing items we both don't like we were told only certain things could be changed otherwise the cost would go up due to ingredient prices. We just made do with what we had, the food though was really good, the sausages were the best I'd had for a while and the bacon was perfect. At the time, we were baby sitting and needed one of the high chairs provided, they were available but hadn't been cleaned that well and had crumbs all over them, we had to clean them ourselves. Also the floor was really dirty I like the dark granite type modern flooring but it doesn't look great with mud and crumbs on it.

The floor was dirty and covered in bits of food. Food (scones) was uncovered on the counter. Sandwiches took a while to arrive. One was a heated baguette, which was very hard and difficult to eat. toasting makes them very hard. I would suggest lightly toasting a baguette on the inside only, on a skillet. Tea cup was dirty but was quickly replaced. Toilet hadn't been checked regularly and the waste bin was overflowing onto the floor with paper towels. No toilet tissue available in the unisex toilet. Menu varied and prices reasonable. I may try this place again as I feel small improvements can be made.

This cafe has always been one of my favourites as it offered something a bit different to the others in North Walsham. This time it was completely different. There were dirty dishes piled up behind the serving counter, the floor was dirty. We ordered diet cokes and the waitress said she would bring us some glasses and we waited ages for her to bring them although they were not busy. I will give this place another go and if it is better I will put another review on here.

it was ok little bit on the pricey side especially as it is a charity based business staff though nice and found tables were sticky

Go here quite often for coffee and sometimes for a light lunch and find it a nice place to eat and good value for money

This is a good town cafe. Its pretty much exactly what i expected it to be with the usual scones, cakes etc. Its not bad at all but its not amazing either!! We just had sandwiches and they done the job. Prices were average, so was service. May return if i'm out that way and hungry!!

This is a lovely local cafe, ideal for a mid morning tea and scone. Lovely selection of lunch time sandwiches too.I haven't been to the evening restaurant but I am definitely looking forward to trying it. Really friendly staff

I am coming often to this cafe/restaurant. The cappuccino is lovely. The fresh scones are yummy and so are the cakes. good choice of breakfast and sandwiches. Good choice of lunches. Big portion very good quality not too pricey. Friendly service.

We have used this establishment a few times and nothing changes. The menu remains very limited. The specials remain rather uninspiring. The prices are more high end bistro than cafe. Since opening, the cafe now has a licensed bar and opens for evening meals too and appears to be trying to be something it will never be..This cafe is run by a charitable organisation, raising money for a village in Africa. Judging by the charges raised, the charity must be doing particularly well...
