A lovely place and great food! I came here twice during my recent visit to Edinburgh and had a great time and delicious food. Warm atmosphere and friendly staff. Try the hot chocolate with marshmallows!

Two small lattes, one small slice of lemon cake and one small cheese scone for £18.50! Their prices are insane so that was our first and last visit.

I have been to Cafe Grande several times and in a couple of occasions I left a deserved good review. This time was different: I booked a table for me and my wife for breakfast to celebrate her birthday. We were seated right in front of the door but it was open .As it was windy and cold, we asked if we could sit at another table, as there was one free (for 2 people) far from the door. Our request was denied, instead the door was closed, but as there were people going in and out all the time, it was still discomfortable. Therefore we left before ordering. No apologies from staff, maybe they thought we were tourists and they did not care. Very disappointing attitude, very unlikely we will come back again.

I wanted to express my appreciation for the wonderful dining experience at your restaurant. The Fish and Chips and Roast Lamb were both exceptionally tasty and well-prepared. The overall ambiance and service were also good. I'll definitely recommend it

Had a superb dinner here. We hadn't booked so we were pleased to be able get a table. The staff were really welcoming, very chatty and helpful and the food was superb. We had a bottle of the house wine (a blended white that didn't say much useful on the label) which was reasonably priced and very easy drinking (I'd guess at a viognier but who know). To start we had the beef cheeks (falling apart, plenty of gravy on the side) and the haggis spring rolls (which also went well with the gravy). For mains we had the chicken ballotin - very Mediterranean, delicious spring onion pave potatoes - and the beef bourgignon which was rich and robust with very tender beef and delicious garlic mashed potatoes. I had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was the best I've ever had - one of my favourite desserts and they absolutely nailed it. The tables are well spaced and the background music is low enough so that is easy to have a conversation at normal volume level. All round a fabulous, low key place that I would recommend for a relaxed and delicious meal.

This is one of the popular cafes in Edinburgh Bruntsfield area. We came by for lunch on a weekday, and were surprised by the wait time for a table. Best to have reservation. Food quality was disappointing. The beef brisket sandwiches came out less than optimal. The beef was stringy and tough.. I mostly pull and cut them up to eat. The matured cheddar could do a bit more. The hummus and chargrilled vegetable sandwich was dominated by the sweet onion chutney, which IMHO didn’t balance well in overall flavors.

Five of us went to Café Grande for an evening of wine tasting and five courses of seafood dishes. Here's a summary of the menu: Oysters, honey & shallot vinaigrette Lobster, cucumber and mango salad Crab, seaweed and watermelon Scallops, lime crust, curried cauliflower and cumin foam Monkfish in Parma ham, fondant potato & tenderstem broccoli. There was a different wine to accompany each course. The cost was £40 a head, which we thought was pretty good. I didn't have the oyster (never had one yet) and I soon learned to ask the waiters for just a small glass of each wine – I was amazed at some other customers' ability to consume alcohol. Obviously the courses were all small; the scallops were great, but I think my favourite was the last one, as the monkfish was perfectly cooked. That was my favourite wine too; a Provence rosé from Chateau L'Escarelle. They put these special evenings on pretty regularly, apparently.

Always a great dinning option in Bruntsfield. A bit less expensive than some of the others locally but always fresh food & quality cooking . They do fantastic value monthly wine tasters , we hate to miss them!

A lunch for a group of 9 friends - excellent choice of menu including lighter meals. Quality of food was impressive especially the fish and chips. Staff were very helpful in every way.

First visit here this week , even though we have been coming to the area for a few years on holiday . Wonderful breakfast everything cooked perfectly , I am Gluten free and I was able to get a lovely breakfast , something that many places only pay a lip service to . We enjoy it so much we booked for next morning & also had a beautiful dinner night before . I understand some comments about them wanting your table to be vacated , but they are trying to make a living . We’ve all been through extremely tough times and small businesses need all the income coming in they can . But everyone entitled to their opinion . Staff extremely attentive . Reasonably priced . We have no complaints and will certainly be back .

Cafe by day restaurant at night, the food incredible and the staff you feel like part of the family soo warm and welcoming! If you want a real treat book in for one of there monthly wine tasting a real taste of there seasonal menu paired with great wine 🍷 don’t pass this great place by!!!

Awesome! Really fresh food and excellent service from enthusiastic, smiling staff who couldn't do enough for you. It was expensive but, its Edinburgh and top notch food so you have to keep that in mind. Definitely worth doing if you want to treat yourself or the whole family. Atmosphere was lovely. Small menu but this means you are not taking an hour struggling what you're going to have. I recommend the fish in whatever way its served because its cooked to perfection, whether its served as fish and chips or poached on a bed of vegetables- very tasty. 20/10!!!!

A surprisingly lovely place to go for dinner. Short of other options on a Friday night we ended up here for some food, and it was great! Service was lovely, food was yummy, and it was open until pretty late ! I had the fish and chips, fish with a lemon butter instead of battered. House white wine was decent too.

Update 10.03.24 still as good as ever. One of the best fillet steaks we've had and scallops starter perfect. Love this continental style licensed cafe in Bruntsfield. We drop in for drinks after an walk as well as eating there every so often. Staff do a great job making you feel comfortable, valued and as if you've been a regular for years. Food is restaurant standard and seasonal, but with great regulars (fish n chips fab and try the triple meat burger-amazing). Def worth a visit.

Small and quaint in the Bruntsfield area. Small menu of share plates with a French vibe and Scottish ingredients. Lovely servers and definitely a welcome spot for a first night in the UK.

Fantastic staff and Fantastic food. The Full breakfast was perfect in every way. Would recommend this place to locals and visitors. Unfortunately I might have blotted my copy book by accidentally setting fire to my menu. I am sincerely sorry for this silly mistake of mine. All in all. This place will no doubt be busy during the tourist season so might be advisable to book ahead.

Cafe Grande has to be one of my favourite spots in edinburgh, the food was awesome with some of the best haggis i’ve had here. Not to mention the amazing customer service & great atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back.

Disappointing visit but sad to leave this review as I know times are tough. However, most of my feedback wouldn’t take money to fix just a bit of thought, care and attention. Service was slow, the space was cold (my friend kept her coat on) and the food was sparse and expensive for what it was but our biggest issue by far was being asked to vacate the table after only an hour. We had waited half an hour for our food to arrive, had already ordered repeat drinks and then just as we were about to order more coffee and keep chatting we were told they wanted the table back. This was despite the fact that the place was pretty empty and another party of two just arrived without a booking and was seated no problem. Just bizarre and made us feel that they were trying to extract the maximum amount of money from each table. Kind of fair enough but not after we’d spent nearly £40 on brunch for 2 and only been there for an hour. I won’t be back sadly. As I said, times are hard for cafes and restaurants but times are also tough for customers and I’d rather spend my money elsewhere.

Got here on a cold January morning after just having rolled out of bed after a night out. It was Sunday and close to noon, and I didn't have a reservation. The staff graciously offered me a table which wasn't booked till 45 min later, took my order and then came back to say they had another table which had just emptied and which I could have as long as I wanted. Had a most well prepared Eggs Royale before taking my coffee to sit at one of their outside tables. Sipping while watching the world go by. Staff came out to ask if I wanted a blanket as it was quite cold. It's thoughtfulness like this which makes me want to keep coming back to family run cafes like this one! Five stars for their food! And a round of applause for their service.

Superb little "Bistro by day, Restaurant by night.". Had a delicious and generously portioned Prawn & Avocado Salad. My companion, an equally excellent Chicken, Spinach & Mushroom Crepes. Will return!

Honest cafe, think it might turn into more of a restaurant later in the day. Licensed, though we were in for breakfast. Great selection and good value too. Staff really attentive.

Partner and I decided to have a 'decadent' deliveroo brunch and opted for Cafe Grande, we'd never tried it before. I had the Stornoway Stack and partner had banana and honey french toast. Both were excellent. Generous amounts of honey and hollandaise which were individually potted, as was the banana. Poached eggs were perfect. All in all a 10/10. Thank you!

Haven't been in a while but didn't fail. Service staff were polite and food was lovely, even the kids food was good quality (kids had fish and chips). My only comment would be to give peas with the fish and chips as both kids didn't like/want the salad with balsamic glaze!

It's been quite a few years since I lasted visited but it certainly won't be as long till my next. From start to finish, we had a great time; the food was beautiful, the service very attentive and we found the bill extremely reasonable. This is a great establishment and I only wished I lived nearer!

Absolutely wonderful. Birthday lunch for my husbands 50th birthday. Warm welcome, delicious food but what was so kind was his burger arriving with a candle in it and happy birthday being sung. Popped in on the way to the cinema - a quiet weekday evening. After a 45mins wait, chased the order and discovered it had "got lost". Had to leave to make it to the cinema. Don't come here.

Booked a table for 4 on a Sat morning All of a sudden my table grew to 9 I went to see if it was possible to change from 4 to 9 ( big ask ) The lady had a look at her screen witch looked full but she said not to worry she will manage it. She did and we ended up with a great table. Brunch was brilliant and the Bloody Marys are a must! Great food Great staff and great service

Great place for Breakfast and Lunch

Popped in on Sunday evening after taking in a film at the Cameo. Had never been before but thought we'd give the restaurant a try as it looked welcoming and the menu was full of dishes we fancied. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food - robust flavours, unusual ingredients and large portions. Starters were prawn cocktail and scallops; mains were ballotine of chicken with pearl barley risotto and pork with black pudding and red cabbage. Shared a really nice sticky toffee pudding for desert. Price was £88 for all of the above plus two large glasses of Pinot Grigio and a double espresso. Pretty decent for Bruntsfield, I think, Service was friendly and attentive. We'll be back.

Dined here on previous occasions, and it's been fantastic. Not so on this visit. Dirty cutlery. Food insipid and warm as opposed to hot. Hopefully a one off. Staff were very good.

We had two coffees and two small/medium scones. The only jam the cafe had to offer was strawberry. My wife found her decaf coffee weak. Mine was OK. But it was expensive: Total £14.10 There are many pleasant coffee shops in Bruntsfield but I’m not going back here.

What a lovely relaxing lunch with great service. The type of service that is there when you need it without asking for it. I have here many times but need to review to confirm what a great place this is. Immaculate. Delicious food. Welcoming. Relaxed atmosphere. Everything I want for a lunch out. We stayed way beyond our booking and even moved to a nicer table in the window. None of this was any trouble to the friendly staff. It was also fully booked - on a Tuesday at lunchtime. That says everything to me.

Lovely to see that the original owner is still there from when I used to come here in the 90s.

Duck Salad was a savory sensation Pressed pork belly on sweet cabbage was perfection, scallops in a buttery light white sauce sensational, light lemon custard on a biscuit crust dessert luscious, whomever is behind the scenes here knows what they're doing and they're doing it really really well! Go here, sit order and enjoy for a couple of hours. The service is excellent.

So very disappointed in my vegetarian meal. The peppers were raw, the couscous tasteless and the feta cheese missing. I wasn't asked if I enjoyed my meal but I suspect the waitress knew as most of the food was left on my plate. I just wondered if anyone had tasted the recipe prior to it being on the menu? I didn’t make a fuss as I was treating my friend to his birthday meal.

Fantastic best breakfast ever and evening meal the same the Chowder is to die for

Disappointed with my birthday breakfast here. I went for the full Scottish, but without haggis or black pudding. No substitutions were offered but they were happy to offer extra bacon when asked. My meal arrived with two rashers...so is there usually one rasher? Or did they forget?? Also asked for crispy , but wasn't. The plate came minus the sausage which was brought out on request. So with one egg, one slice of potato scone, an egg, beans and HALF a tomato, not great for £20 (Inc toast and coffee). Partner said her french toast was lovely. Don't like to give a negative review to a long-standing local business, but hope it will be better next time?

Lovely venue, v friendly staff and excellent food. Our party of 7 were all very satisfied with their food choices at lunch. I had the peppers stuffed with cous cous and feta which was also served with sugar snap peas, green beans and a salad garnish; a delicious combination. And for dessert I had the lemon polenta cake which was an excellent balance of sweet and sharp.

Fantastic dinner tonight (pork belly + sea trout) with guest visiting from out of the country. Great service and wonderful ambience unlike the very noisy place across the street :) Highly recommend it!

Edit: Love the cafe! We've had brunch & dinner and had a great time. Food is really good, staff are fantastic and we always enojy our visits. We even celebrated a birthday, our meals came out quickly and at the same time. Kudos! A gluten free menu with plenty of options is available. What a wonderful café! We sat outside with drinks which were delicious, served by locally and friend staff -what more could you ask for :)

This was a brunch date with a close friend. We were there at 11.30am and it was lovely and quiet. We had a good table near a window. The breakfast menu runs til noon. Friend had a vegetarian breakfast and they happily substituted her fried egg for poached and added extra Portobello mushrooms for the beans. I had Eggs Royal - delicious. Coffee was good as was the decaf breakfast tea. Staff were friendly and attentive. Good value Toilets airy and clean.

Highly enjoyable meal on a quiet evening mid-week. Simple: soup of the day (mushroom, IIRC) with bread, and moules marinières. The soup and the mussels were genuinely excellent. Service was attentive, friendly, and fresh, with no trace of snobbery, chain-restaurant "flair," or false bonhomie. Quite wonderful, and the first place I'll go back to if I find myself in Edinburgh again.

We had the most wonderful lunch - I had the special and it was absolutely glorious! Staff were wonderful and accommodating (my meal was made gluten free). We had such a lovely time.

We're new to Edinburgh but have eaten at Café Grande on many occasions. I can honestly say that we've never had a meal there that wasn't excellent. The savoury crèpes are phenomenal. Have dealt w. several different members of staff - all lovely, genuinely friendly...
