Lovely cafe away from the hubbub of busy York. The cafes on the 1st floor and my wife and I managed to get a window seat and watched the world go by as we ate lunch. Shared a club sandwich and had a cake each. Both clearly made in house and all the better for it. Simple food sounds like a cack handed compliment but it was just that. Well made, well presented food which tasted delicious. Cafe FeVa is a classic cafe the likes of which used to be commonplace before chains took over. If you're looking to support a local business give this one a try.

Cute little café inside a antique store. We only had coffee there although the food looked delicious. The coffee was disappointing. It was capsule coffee that tasted watery and we still paid the usual price for it (around £3). I wouldn't have coffee there again but would go back for the antiques or maybe try the food (and have tea this time).

Called in to the Cafe FeVa whilst visiting the Red House Antique Centre. The cafe is on the top floor and is clearly popular as many of the tables were pre-booked. Luckily there were only the two of us and they managed to find us a table after a short wait. It was certainly worth the wait.We had a Smoked Salmon Sandwich - which was fantastic with a very generous filling of smoked salmon and a Tuna/Mozzarella Panino with Taylors of Harrogate Tea. For somewhere to go for a light lunch, this was a real find and I would highly recommend it.

As we walked through York and most cafes were full, some even had a queue outside I remembered this little cafe hidden away in the Antique Centre. At the moment the Antique Centre building is covered in scaffolding and there were no signs outside to advertise the cafe. Much to my relief, it was still there and open. We actually had the place to ourselves. Lovely service and amazing warm scones (probably best I have ever tasted) this is a little hidden gem. It's got an eclectic mix of furniture, but tea came in proper tea cups and sauces. I suspect the building work and lack of signage has taken a toll on this business... So please check it out!

A gem found. We were looking for a place to try Yorkshire pudding. This Cafe is located on the first floor of the Antique shop like everyone mentioned, so when you step into the cafe it might got an “Antique smell”, which not everyone keen to it. However, we were fine with it and you get used to it after awhile, the staff was very friendly and nice with the order process. We waited for 20 minutes for our food, and we were so pleased with the wait. The food itself was absolutely delicious. The first bite of the Yorkshire pudding was incredible. The hot sandwich is crispy but not oily. Food was very hot and a good temperature to eat. I ordered a smoothie which also great. It was our first meal in York and it’s exceed our expectations. We definitely will recommend this place to everyone, and will definitely go back.

What sort of business plan does the owner of this cafe have where you shut at 2.30 in the middle of the tourist season? I've reviewed this place before when the cake and tea were fine but told coffee was finished as they were cleaning the coffee machine. This time we arrived at 2.30 and there were some tables with people eating, but as we stood by the notice which asked people to wait to be seated, we noticed a "Closed" note on the stand. Several other couples did the same. I just don't get it - I see the opening hours now say it shuts at 2.30 every day when most people are thinking of having a break for a drink and cake. Unbelievable.

Disappointed after reading other positive reviews. Food OK, but service lacking. Many drinks listed on menu simply unavailable. Staff were busy and very difficult to get their attention. Sandwiches fine, but 90% of wines/ gins/ beers simply unavailable - it was a case of do you want rioja or rioja ? I had booked it for friends based on reviews on this site. I hardly ever give negative reviews, but feel very let down. May simply be too few staff, but that can't explain the lack of availability of drinks. Staff were pleasant enough, but when I asked to order some more drinks waited so long simply left and went elsewhere. Shame.

We visited the cafe today on a day trip to York. 2 adults and 2 young children. Based on the good reviews we thought we would give it a try but left very disappointed. We were the only people in the cafe and ordered drinks plus 2 scones with jam and clotted cream for the children, a jacket potato and a panini. The drinks arrived and these were followed by the scones which I quickly realised did not include clotted cream which I queried. The girl serving who was very nice did not understand what I was trying to say so I let it go and thought we would make do. I then realised that the cream we were served was covered in little mould spots and tasted clearly off! My son who didn't want to make a fuss insisted it was fine but said afterwards that the cream tasted like lemon. In other words sour! I tried it myseld and it was sour so sent the other back and asked for a replacement with just butter which they did but again I don't think the girl serving understood that the cream was off. The tuna mayo jacket then arrived with dry tuna. After the others had all finished my chicken, mozzarella and pesto panini arrived with no pesto. I asked and this was brought out separately. All in all a comedy of errors I'm sorry to say although the girl serving did apologise and said the chef was not in. Clearly the person preparing the food was not familiar with the menu or checking that the ingredients are fit for comsumption. The server did take £12 off the £35 bill. I think £5 for a scone and almost £9 for a dry jacket potato is very pricey. Had the children not being with us we would have left as soon as the scones arrived. We won't be returning.

Sadly I don’t think this cafe is as good as it was. When we went in as a family there was one waitress who was extremely friendly and capable but she was having to deal with silly mistakes made by another. We all have to learn but not taking an order and serving a cappuccino coffee without coffee in is pretty basic. This all could have been forgiven but a trip to the use the facilities revealed a bathroom badly in need of a clean and revamp. Just a little bit of TLC could lift this cafe so much. The location and views from the window are great. The food we had was also nice. It could easily be a five star experience then.

Great food and atmosphere! However, the experience was let down once we had finished our breakfast. We cleared up our plates as to make it easier on the waitresses however one of the waitresses completely ignored our table and was stood at the counter picking at her nails. I tried to make eye contact several times as both my boyfriend and I were in a hurry but she never looked over. She had to be told to clear our table by another member of staff who was busy with another table, she cleared our plates but then just stood at the counter again even though we still had our coffee cups and toast boards to be taken. She then had to be asked AGAIN to clear the rest of our table but only took the toast boards and didn’t come back for the coffee mugs. At this point I was pretty fed up, I work in hospitality my self so I try to give the benefit of the doubt where possible but I ended up calling for the bill while I took the coffee mugs to the counter myself. Then to top it off when we left we both said thank you and we were completely blanked by the waitress. It’s unfortunate that our experience was let down at the end but the rest of the staff were very attentive and welcoming! (also wanted to add that for the coffees being over £3 I would have expected them made by a proper coffee machine not just a pod type one)

Very surprised with all the good reviews for this cafe…. None of the tables were set when we arrived at opening time so had to wait outside a small corridor whilst they set up late. When we got in the room was freezing and I was sat right next to the plug in heater they had in the room, so glad I wasn’t sat anywhere else, as I had to eat with my scarf and coat still on. The food took an hour to arrive and we were the first people to be seated/ order and when it did arrive all the food was cold, I didn’t send it back though, as after waiting an hour I just wanted to leave. Also, our two breakfasts (one full and one veggie full) and a couple of drinks, it cost us over £45!. The waitresses were very polite and lovely but the service was extremely slow considering it’s a tiny cafe with only a couple of tables. Would not recommend or return.

We had high expectations for this cafe, but it sadly wasn’t as good as we hoped. A group of us booked for brunch - we turned up and the tables hadn’t been made up yet so we had to loiter for 10 mins. The lights were off which seemed a bit odd so I had to ask the waitress to turn them on. It was also freezing cold (although this was when the weather was about -2 degrees!). The drinks then took about 20 mins to come out even though it was just coffee from a machine, and overall the food took almost an hour to come out, even though the place was practically empty! £8 for some of the most average avocado and poached eggs on toast I’ve had, and it was all piled on one piece of normal seeded bread! Ideally you’d get more for your money and much quicker. Very nice staff however slow service tainted our experience.

This ramshackle cafe is at the top of an antique/ junk shop in the centre of town. It is quite scruffy inside and there is a climb up past lots of old furniture and ornaments. The ladies who served us were lovely and smiley but the service was quite slow and lunchtime menu was a bit limited. We fell back on plain jacket potatoes with grated cheese. The waitress got 2 out of 4 orders wrong and even trying to confirm what the order was the other waitress got it wrong so it was impossible to avoid the massive confusion that happened. Additionally, i ordered cream tea that comes with a special tea blend but they served us the same Taylor's tea as with my partner who ordered that. When I asked they said that the cream tea and standard tea are the same although the menu says something different. This is to cover up the fact that the waitress put on the order 1 scone and tea insted of cream tea which comes with two scones. Was also expecting the afternoon tea set but just got standard. Let's be clear - if you're paying nearly £45 for 2 sandwiches, one ploughman's and 3 hot drinks you expect a certain number of features of your visit to be of a fairly high standard. I wouldn't expect, for example, that a ploughman's would have mortadella (as opposed to actual carved ham), a mini pork pie cut in half (you can get 6 for £2.40 in Asda so 40p for one) and Branston sandwich spread for the pickle. Conservatively I think I could have assembled my £15 plate for about £3.50 which makes the mark up quite big even by the centre of York's standards. Hygiene standards, just out of Covid, pique most people's interest nowadays so you can always criticise ablutionery facilities anywhere you go but a toilet with no actual flush handle is inexcusable in any retail establishment in the UK. The sandwiches were good and the waitress obliging with my request for a carry home box when my daughter didn't quite finish her sandwiches. Service was professional, polite but pedantry. It's a lovely spot with a nice decorous interior so feels a nice place to eat in. Being above the antique centre probably means they don't get the walk-ins that you'd expect given their location which might be a reason for lifting prices but you've gotta get the minutiae right if you're being fussy about your clientèle and relying on good reviews to get them their in the first place.

The scones were absolutely massive, and delicious with it, and came with lots of jam and clotted cream. My favourite was the mango cheesecake– I could definitely have eaten more! We enjoyed the afternoon tea very much and I would definitely recommend it.

What an absolutely amazing experience! If i could give more than 5 stars I would! The customer service was excellent from start to finish, so accomadating to all our dietary requirements. We were a hen party and went for afternoon tea. The food exceeded our expectations! Such value for money for the amount and quality of what we got. And the staff were absolutely fabulous, they couldn't do enough for us. I have never been anywhere with such a polite, attentive and friendly team. And to top it all off, the location was beautiful and we were sat in the middle of a quirky antique shop. It was absolutely perfect we have all said we will definitely be going back again. Thanks so much for everyone at Cafe FeVa for making my friends special occasion even more special ❤️

Freakin' AMAZING. The Dick Turpin is one sensational sandwich. The depth of flavour from the spice and smoke in the meat is really something special. Massively recommended... TRY ONE NOW.

Shambles Korner did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted and promptly seated. The atmosphere was fantastic, with a relaxing atmosphere and soothing ambience that made for a perfect start to the day. We opted for the Full English Breakfast, and it was nothing short of exceptional—easily a 10/10! Whether you’re visiting York or a local looking for a great spot, I highly recommend Shambles Korner for a relaxed, high-quality service and food!
