Toasted cheese sandwich was sadly lacking. Two thin slices of toast and a small amount of cheese. Americano and flat white coffee lacked coffee. Toilets were unclean. Won’t be visiting again.

I can’t believe I haven’t left you a review before now! Karen you are a gluten free queen! I’ve popped into Cafe Crème numerous times over the years with family and friends since being diagnosed as a coeliac. I always feel safe and at ease when visiting. The food is delicious with a wide range available from pies, quiche, sandwiches, toasties and much more. I’m currently loving the halloumi and sweet chilli toastie, not to mention the delightful array of cakes on offer. I could eat them all! (Not many make it home in one piece). First cake order - My 30th Birthday - Karen produced a delicious cake for my 30th party and everyone enjoyed it. Karen went above and beyond. Second cake order - Our Wedding Cake - there was only one person we were trusting with this task! Karen! She spent time listening to our ideas and suggesting flavours that would work and produced a cake I never imagined we’d have. It was absolutely delicious. Karen came on the morning to set up our cake to ensure that the hall didn’t ruin it over night. Attentive to detail! I’m sure I’ll be back very soon for my cake fix … and halloumi and sweet chilli toasties ♥️

I went in to buy one of their ham salad sandwiches, I have had them before and they are amazing although expensive, , I got it to take away and when I got home and opened it up I was so disappointed, it didn’t have onion which I asked for it had half a slice of ham and one small piece of lettuce it was overwhelmed with salad cream probably trying to hide the lack of ingredients, I refilled with ingredients from my own fridge and ate it.

The title says it all really, so often you travel to villages and towns who claim super cafes to be disappointed. Not this morning, we visited the Thursday market and then went for brunch. My first coffee and cake out since lockdown started. We got takeaway coffee and cake. Only one customer was allowed in at a time which worked well and I was able to pay by card. Wide selection of gluten free cakes and scones. I ordered a slice of the lemon drizzle, a slice of orange and almond, and two scones. They were all delicious. I shared them with my partner and he said he couldn’t tell they were gluten free, and I have to agree.

Tried here as a change, from the usual. Very much worth it! Front is quite small but there are more tables in the back. Had a toastie, chips and victoria sponge and tea for afters. Lovely homemade chips,(did catch a few not quite done ones), nice bit of salad and coleslaw you can add on for an extra pound. The sponge was the highlight though! light and fluffy - one slice was just not enough. Variety of cakes on display. Nicely decorated in pastels and homely feeling.

First visited this cafe in January with our grandson. We thought it was good value. Revisited today. £5.50 for 1 sausage about 6 chips and a drink for our granddaughter. Staff friendly, but place seemed a bit grubby, feel vastly overcharged for child meal. Home made cake looks good but overall felt ripped off. Wont be visiting again.

While visiting family in Penistone we met at Cafe Creme for a late breakfast. We had the best coffee, I had a small (meaning less milk) flat white. I was totally surprised. The coffee is roasted in small batches by a local man. It was superbly unexpected in this small town. In addition, they had a huge range of homebaked gluten and dairy free cakes, to name a few Battenberg, Bakewell cake and tart, salted caramel, lemonade, and Victoria sponge. We shared a piece of salted caramel as a gluten tolerant person I thought the quality was superb. The cafe is run by a mother-daughter team. We got to meet the baker as she brought a beautiful Battenberg cake. Delightful spot, made me wish that I lived there.

Lovely family-run cafe in the small market town of Penistone. Spent an hour and a half drinking coffee and reading my paper whilst custom ebbed and flowed. Chief asset is warm and welcoming staff I would say. Bit disappointed that they only had gluten-free cakes but believe this is due to owner's own needs. Cooked breakfast looks basic but hearty and there is more room than is initially apparent.

Although they aren't the largest rooms in the world the proprietors have grotesquely over filled the small rooms with wobbly tables. The last twice we have been in we have being pinned into our pods by pushchairs filled with ranting, screaming infants none supervised by mothers who have zero thought for anyone else. The cakes are all gluten free and in fairness very nice however, the scrambled eggs (we had last time) were pretty atrocious (dry and tasteless - no milk or seasoning's added) and took an absolute age to turn up whilst we enjoyed been pinned in by an oversized push chair accompanied by two oversized parents with no regard for us.If you chose the back room you will come out stinking of, and covered in grease as there appears to be no extractor fan in the kitchen, hence the cooked food odours (nearly all fried) overbearingly coat everything and everybody. My hands actually stuck to the plastic table cloth.Basically this cafe offers very poor value in the most, offering a transport cafe/crèche atmosphere but at very high prices. There are better options in Penistone!

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by my visit to the Cafe Crewe. I normally use a different cafe in Penistone (there are quite a few to choose from), but on this occasion it was closed.I had been here once before, and as soon as I entered, it did feel a much "warmer" cafe than the one I had visited before. I don't mean warmer as in temperature, but the way the cafe had been decorated and set out.Anyway, I ordered the full large English breakfast, pot of tea and toast inc black pudding for just under £7.50. I had a choice of scrambled or fried egg, tinned or fresh tomato. Service was quick and pleasant. And yes, the food was good. Plenty on the plate and well presented. Interestingly the other cafe does not put as much on the plate, but is a tad better in presentation. Not sure which I prefer through! After all, it all gets eaten.

Called in recently with my husband. We ordered the 'gourmet' burgers. The cafe was quiet, but they took a while to arrive (coffee finished!) The burgers looked pretty on a wooden platter in a brioche bun. I cut mine into two pieces but when I picked it up the bun felt cold and slightly damp (defrosted?) I took it back to the waitress who told me they use only fresh, but it feels cold, I said, ah, they are freshly frozen and removed from the freezer the afternoon before, and the kitchen is cold, was the answer. Mmm, so fresh or frozen? Anyway, the bun was replaced, but for the price I would have expected better. Perhaps it was just an off day.The cakes looked nice.

I'd just been on a long bike ride and needed urgent refuelling. I saw a Greggs across the road and thought that would be ideal for a bit of carby stodge, but a few doors down was Cafe Creme, which looked interesting and inviting. I get frustrated when cafes don't display their menus in the window but luckily they did and the prices seemed reasonable. What I wasn't prepared for was just how well presented the food was. My sandwich came with an obviously freshly prepared salad and homemade coleslaw on a fancy plate, all for £3. The chips were in a cone-shaped presentation wire basket with big sea salt crystals scattered over the top and a strangely curious relish in a little pot attached to the side. The sandwich was fine (the bread roll was nothing special) but the chips were some of the best I've ever tasted - crisp and incredibly potato-y. The large latte (10p extra) was enormous and thankfully had enough kick (I find large lattes often too milky). The place is quite small but cosy and the seating is comfortable. The toilet is round the back which isn't ideal. I would also say that the staff, while competent, weren't especially friendly (it's like they were waiting to close so they could all go home). When our plates were being cleared I told the lady that the food was delicious and she said "of course". Maybe it's just the sense of humour round these parts? One more thing. I had wanted a tuna panini but they were out of tuna. So I ordered a sandwich on a multigrain bap - but they were out of those too!Although I didn't have any cake (no room!), the serving counter was awash with delicious looking home made cakes, all for £1.95. Portion sizes looked good too.So, I'd definitely recommend the place (much better than Greggs!). A sandwich with salad, coleslaw and chips, plus two large lattes for under £9? Can't be bad

Cafe creme is a lovely little cafe which is very down to earth. Good food, great cakes. And you feel as if you are important to them. We've been there quite a few times over the last 12 months. The only reason for 4 stars is that the toilet is outside down the alley behind the venue, and opens directly into a small courtyard. And in winter it is freezing. We will definitely go back.
