Popped in to see if they had vegetarian options. It was really difficult to communicate because noone spoke English. But the man pointed out food with no meat. So I ordered a few items. When I got outside and ate a snack it had meat in so I returned and he didn't care at all. He just stared at me. I was unhappy but I went again another time and again noone spoke English behind the till. I realised there was a man sitting inside talking in English so I asked him if he worked there. He said yes what's the problem. And I just asked again. He was able to show me the vegan options. And this time the food was delicious and all vegan. Thankfully. The food is lovely and the price is good. It's just really hard to communicate unless the boss is there.

Awful takeaway service. Ordered food at 8pm and after several calls and each call being told half hour/20 mins/10 mins and eventually arrived at 11pm. Absolutely shocking and disgusting service and food was below average. Shocker. No apology or compensation! Never ever again!!!

I came by about 9.15pm for a late dinner midweek. Place was empty, but had a regular flow of Sri Lankan gents wandering in to buy take out food. I ordered the mutton roll, very good spicy lamb in a potato croquete, only 90p. And a sri lanakn Chicken Curry, £5.30 , plain rice (basmati), £1.95. The chicken curry was bone-in bits but had terrific flavour, probably from dark roasted spices, and was really enjoyable. Quite spicy but not ridiculously hot or hiccup inducing. The rice portion was fluffy and generous. I was impressed and would recommend, and will revisit when in the area.

I visited Taste of Ceylon on a few occasions in the last month all for a sit down Lunch. The Restaurant is clean, modest table and chairs with capacity of 30 seats. At the time of my visit very few patrons were dinning in. The majority of visitors were collecting take away orders. I found the service friendly but not professional or prompt, it needs improvement. THe Restaurant advices customers to bring their own alcoholic drinks. As for the food, I had Meat Samosas, Masala Dosa and Mutton Briyani. All tasted pretty amazing in line with the best South Indian Restaurants in West Croydon. Although the Restaurant is mainly geared for Take Away meals, it is frequented mainly by Sri Lankans, If it good for them , it is good recommendation for me. I will certainly be back may be for a take away next time. Ron Ben-Zvi.

The price has gone up twice in a matter of months. Cooks have changed at the same frequency. Slowest 'service' you will ever come across, even when the cafe is empty!

Many years ago my employment took me to Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) and I was fortunate at that time to see much of the Island. Now living in leafy Shropshire there are limited opportunities to sample such a colourful cuisine as that served by Colombo Kitchen. A birthday celebratory dinner for my daughter provided just the right occasion. Accompanied by my wife we all arrived early in the evening and observed that the restaurant was already busy. Once comfortably settled at our reserved table we ordered aperitifs of Colombo Sunrise cocktails and Lion lager, before the serious matter of reading through the extensive menu. The first food to appear was a Sharing Platter (vadai, cutlets, rolls and patties), which was followed by mains of Mutton Curry, Devilled King Prawns and Chicken Kottu. Steamed spiced Basmati and saffron rice complemented the dishes. Desserts were Kiri Kithul (yoghourt) and fried honey pineapple. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed their chosen dishes and I was able to indulge and appreciate a return to the tastes of the "Island of Serendipity". The Colombo Kitchen menu offers interesting and wide ranging choices that cater for all palates amidst clean and atmospheric surroundings and first class service. Hopefully, it will not be too long before I am able to make a return visit. Recommended.
