We visited Canna for a couple of nights in September during glorious weather. We'd only planned one meal at Cafe Canna. but we stopped in for lunch after disembarking the ferry the food was so magnificent we were back for lunch every day. The seafood platter is amazing, so fresh and superbly cooked and everyone is so friendly. It's worth the journey to Canna just for the cafe, we will be back!

We had a fabulous evening meal at Cafe Canna. The food was superb and the service was great. Much of the food was locally sourced. Sitting outside looking across the bay we had lunch a couple of days later which was great as well.

This is a very small, cafe style with a restaurant menu for dinner; more like a cafe for lunch. We had dinner, the highlight being the Bourride, a seafood stew, amazing. Prices are a little high for the food but very reasonable for the drinks so balances out. Service excellent. You will be very, very lucky if you get in for dinner without a booking. Lunch no problem. Views fantastic. If the weather was warm enough to sit outside it would double the capacity, but not this June!

Excellent Restaurant in a lovely location. Small , casual, friendly and excellent food, especially the seafood and fish. We went as a family group of 6 adults after a days walking on the island. Standouts were the shellfish, the local island beer and the chocolate torte with sea blackthorn sorbet ( outstanding). Limited places so probably booking required

We were lucky enough to secure a table on opening night if the summer 24 season. A lovely evening spent with locals who were clearly happy to have their restaurant open again. We both chose the same main and deserts - Steak Pie followed by Creme brulé.. Both very very good. Washed down with a few 'Jacks'. Service was friendly and of course very welcoming... Twas a lovely night and luckily enough for us, we plan to return to the island soon. Kinda makes sense to visit again. Thank you Cafe Canna. Jim n Judith

We visited here two evenings during our stay on Canna. We pre-ordered the seafood platter for the first night which was amazing, and great value too. The second night we tried non fish dishes which were excellent too. The gorse crème brûlée was a treat, and there’s a selection of local fins to sample. Staff friendly and helpful. Hope to be able to go back soon! Thanks for a lovely couple of evenings.

We stopped in here after arriving on Cana as part of our Bella Jane Boat Trip. I wasn’t hungry but heard about the fresh home made bread and locally sourced ingredients. I ordered the cheese and tomato sandwich with also had a jam spread and side of potato salad, ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! How can something so simple taste so good and all in a peaceful idyllic setting. Now when I have a craving for a sandwich my mind is drawn to Cafe Cana as it can’t be beat! Owners are lovely too!

Just the awesome experience of my life with sea food ! Anchored here on my way to western Hebrides islands. Visiting at lunch I ordered by accident a bucket of langoustines. They were so fresh and well cooked that I came back for dinner and ordered a crab + yelp salad. Over the top of this local food incredibly cooked we've got the waitress' smile which is perfectly aligned with this exceptional experience offered by incredible people members of an unique community! If they were established under grand central station they would have been millionaires but I can't thank them enough to stay at Canna island and being a small stone of a hopefully coming new world ! We had dinner one evening and stopped off again for lunch the next day. The home made bread is awesome and the quality of food served is excellent. The shop next door is also very well stocked and it was handy to be able to access it 24 hours. A really great set up. To visit café Canna you have first to visit the Isle of Canna, a few hours by boat from Mallaig. So plan ahead, as you will probably need to stay over. Having checked ferry times and accommodation, and booked an evening table at Café Canna, you can look forward to enjoying this exquisite friendly little place. There might be as many seats as there are island residents, but as that's currently just 16 people, you can see it's intimate. We had the seafood platter and it was the best I've ever eaten! The content varies according to the most recent catch, but langoustine, crab, squat lobster and full lobster all featured in our shared platter. As a starter I had crab bisque, which was truly fantastic and packed with flavour. We shared a bottle of house wine, which went very well with the seafood and were delighted to compliment both chef and waitress on an excellent meal. They do lunches too, with tasty sandwiches, soup and bread (we had pea and mint - again delicious) and make the most of local foraged foods. We stayed in a camping pod not far away and loved it. It's a nice quiet island but honestly the thing that would draw me back would be the Café Canna (note, closed on Tuesdays).

Four of us dined here after anchoring a yacht in the harbour. The restaurant is small (16 covers when we were there) and simply furnished. We were warmly welcomed and the service was friendly. The menu is fairly short but contains some imaginative dishes using local ingredients such as rabbit and seaweed as well as more conventional steaks, burgers and seafood. The seafood lakhsa was particularly good. The restaurant appeared to be run by just two people, and not surprisingly after a busy day in this remote location not everything on the menu was available and our courses took some time to arrive, but the beer from Skye kept us contented. One has to admire the ambition behind the establishment and we enjoyed our evening.

I recommend this amazing eatery on the furthest western isle. The cafe/bar is run extremely well by hardworking, welcoming staff. The menu offers freshly prepared dishes to a high standard. Freshly caught lobster is on offer (great value tho not eaten by me yet). This cafe is beautifully isolated, yet is a focal point for yachtsman, campers, day visitors. Although I have to admit, once the 'traffic' departs on the ferry or on the visiting rib boats back to Elgol, the cafe provides a perfect place to look over the scenic island & prettiest of harbours. Cafe Canna is one of life's unforgettable and unique tonics. It is a highlight of every visit we make to Canna. Menu, service, atmosphere, environment- all 5 star, and the cold bottled cider is lovely - just go!

A beautiful bay on a remote Scottish island turns out also to have a small restaurant serving marvellous local food, especially fresh seafood. We shared the (order in advance) seafood platter of lobster and langoustines, which was simply delicious. Cafe Canna is often crowded with yachtsfolk in the evening, and is one reason the island is such a popular mooring spot in the region. Is also a very crowded cafe stop during those days when the ferry unloads groups of walkers and birdwatchers. Also has wifi!

I'm just back from four days on beautiful Canna which was such a lovely surprise in so many ways, not least because the local bar and restaurant was a real find. The setting is lovely, down on the harbour looking out over the green hills of Sanday to the Atlantic beyond. The people working there are very friendly - and so are the other diners who usually include a scattering of intrepid sailors using Canna's sheltered moorings as they explore the Inner Hebrides. Even better, the food is interesting, delicious and innovative, and specialises in local seafood, especially crab. My advice is pre-order a whole crab which is caught just off the island and so fresh, it practically talks. Although the crab linguini and the rabbit stew are pretty spectacular as well. And don't miss the Tallisker ice cream! Nice selection of spirits and wines too. If you're in this neck of the woods, the island is a wonderful place to visit and if you do, don't miss out on eating at Cafe Canna. it's great.

What a spot! After spending 2 weeks on Canna on a workaway, this was our last dinner and it was definitely worth it. Had a huge fresh Canna crab (lobsters and crabs need to be reserved a day in advance) to share with my girlfriend plus the rabbit stew. Chocolate brownie with ice cream as a dessert was a perfect finisher. As it tends to be in smaller restaurants like this, the interior is very cozy and comfortable to sit in. The staff is one of the best I've ever encountered, always smiling and ready to help you. We were made very welcome and there was a great menu that suited all tastes including our pescatarian (can’t fail in the western isles). Service was excellent and couldn’t be faulted and the buzz in the place was great. We particularly enjoyed the Talisker Ice cream which was really interesting- made me re-evaluate the cream/sweet/smoky combination. Steve’s lobster was top notch and the pickled herring tacos were well very well rated as either a starter or main. Wine list was a bit limited but I guess logistics make that hard to manage.

Not so easy my friend - fully booked already! That speaks volumes in such a remote spot with a population of less than 30. However, a quick chat with Gareth and Caroline, and an early fish supper was arranged, which I enjoyed greatly, sitting in the sun, with glass of ice-cold wine. Check other reviews for a full description of the food. I fancied the rabbit, and there are thousands on the island - so many in fact that they are culled - but not available at my very short notice. Small cafe/restaurant on a small and beautiful island. The menu is a little limited, particularly given it was approaching the end of the season when we visited. However particularly given the size and isolation of the place, what there was was great, tasty, well presented and good size. The 'wine list' was also somewhat limited, but appropriate and the bottle we had was well suited to the meal. The proprietor was engaging and fun and produced great food and atmosphere. You really don't expect to get such great food in such an isolated place. But, as well as the food you get the view and look location along side the harbour. Called the following day for a nice cold beer and a philosophical chat after a long walk across this lovely island. If the cafe was at the end of my street or even a few miles away I'd be a regular.

This café has something of a captive audience, given it's the only place on Canna to grab a bite to eat, but that doesn't seem to create a complacent attitude or product. We were only there for a late lunch, waiting for our boat back to Skye, and so unfortunately the enticing evening menu was out of bounds. But for us a bacon roll hit the spot perfectly, washed down by a decent coffee. Not mindblowingly, hipsteresque, good; but as good a caffeine hit as you'll get in most places (and better than mass-produced nonsense). The best was yet to come though, with a monumental slab of rocky road for a frankly ridiculously small amount of money. All of this is a cosy wee room, with space for about 16 people, and even licensed if you fancy something a bit stronger than coffee (including Isle of Skye beers, a few different whiskies, and Isle of Harris Gin).

Stopped over a night while sailing, we decided to have dinner in the cafe. Do call ahead as we did as the place is cosy, but well worth making the time for. Had the delightful rabbit stew, with wonderfully crispy potato rosti. Would heartily recommend for food, a drink and the view.

You'll need to book ahead for dinner in this tiny hostelry unless you are very lucky and particularly if you want to choose the Canna Cafe's exceptional lobster dish. We were on a mooring in the natural harbour and it was well worth the effort of inflating the dinghy to get ashore. Anna had even left a hose at the pier for us so that we could water the boat up alongside. Everyone talks to everyone in the inviting and friendly Cafe atmosphere and the staff are wonderful. We enjoyed excellent beers and washed the lobster down with a first class Chablis. To enjoy the Canna cafe, you don't have to sail across: there are ferries and places available for booking to stay on the island.

Another great dinner tonight at Cafe Canna. Great local food, great location and friendly service from owners Anna and Chris. If you are visiting Canna by yacht or ferry make the effort to visit Cafe Canna.

Excellent food and welcome. Friendly, good quality and cozy. The menu is more limited than mainland cafes and restaurants but you are on The Isle of Canna with limited footfall off the boats and only a few residents and tourists able to stay on the island. The squid, fish, burger are very good. However the rabbit stew is excellent. Didn't try the lobster which has to be pre ordered. It is small but that does make it cozy and it's intimacy does mean you talk to everybody.

Well what a wonderful secret place to stop for a cuppa, meal or drink! We were doing a four hour boat trip from Elgol and stopped on this beautifully remote Island for an hour. Great friendly fast service from the cafe team and free wifi! Thanks

Had a wonderful meal of lobster, sweet potato chips and salad - absolutely delicious. Also very tasty soups. For a small, remote island, the variety of excellent food on offer was amazing.

We sailed in from Eriskay so unable to book in advance (and wondered if that was fair anyway, given that we might not have made Canna that night - not sure what happens if you book but can't turn up!). Unfortunately it was fully booked and not a night for sitting outside! Thought maybe Sunday lunch would be served the next day but it was soup, etc, so ate aboard. Would have booked Sunday night but they said the rabbit stew was finished and not available for a couple of days. Always nice to eat something you can't get elsewhere! We usually sail a bit more 'out of season' so still hope to try the menu one of these days as it's a convenient distance from home.Community moorings nice and snug and certainly better than worrying about dragging the anchor overnight! Shop with honesty box very good indeed and all very friendly.

Spent a few days camping on Canna with the kids in July. Canna Café was a welcome respite from the super noodles. Great food, decent portions, reasonable prices, charming staff, can't fault it.

My son and I arrived by yacht and came ashore to try the fare at Cafe Canna as I had read good things about it. We were just too late for the lunch menu so decided to take e sun outside with a beer and wait for the evening meals to start. Up to that pont, my son said he'd already had the best smoked salmon at another location but is starter beat that easily. Delicious. He the had the haddock....an enormous pice of fish which was also very good but he wished he'd copied me in having the rabbit stew.....perfection on a plate.

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

This was a lovely experience, the food was not ' swimming in grease' as i saw from another review, but it was great to see that the more recent reviews have been validated. We went here for my birthday at the end of october and honestly everything was really lovely . the service was great they were so friendly from the getgo, the charcuterie board we had for starter was very filling and diverse just wish they would have told us what the cheeses were ( i think the brie was from tain though it was familair) but thats a minor niggle that we had no info. the main courses were fab the skin on chips were AMAZING , and its a dog friendly place which we loved , we dont have dogs but we did get to pet some which made our day !

Stopped for the night while doing the NC500 with my husband and 8 + 9 year old kids, one of the only places in Thurso that you can have a sit down meal! Absolutely delicious meal, got the chicken Ceylon roll as a starter and it came out piping hot and so fresh!! The flavours were absolutely amazing! My husband had the medium spice chicken Ceylon curry and said it was amazing, the flavours and spices were absolutely spot on! I had the mild beef Ceylon curry and it was equally as good! All cooked fresh to order and you can tell as it was piping hot and so fresh to taste! There is a children’s menu for the fussier eaters, my daughter had spaghetti and my son had a burger and there was no complaints from them! Our first time trying Sri Lanka food and won’t be our last thanks to this restaurant! Staff are delightful as well☺️
