Cafe Brava in Cardiff

I had breakfast at the cafe twice and on both occasions it was excellent. The first time I had a bacon sandwich, plenty of bacon in nice thick slices of bread. The latest time I had a full breakfast, good size portions of very nice food presented well. The cafe itself is very nice on the centre of Pontcanna. The staff are really friendly, pleasant and helpful. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Food (breakfast) was excellent and my son enjoyed his waffles with fruit compote. Always is excellent and one of the best in Cardiff.

Waited 30 minutes for brunch, weren't told there was a wait, but also no food was coming out, and the tables weren't being cleared, so not sure why anyone was waiting? Had to chase for an update on the food, and then it came out immediately. Corned beef Hash was more COLD corned beed Mush, didn't eat it, or give the feedback because not at one point, even when we settled the bill, were we asked how anything was. Other half ordered scrambled eggs and smoked salmon- eggs were burnt bits of fried egg as though scraped from a frying pan- didnt at all resemble scrambled eggs. The tables around us all needed clearing, staff didn't seem to notice any customers after taking orders- first time trying this place, won't return. Such a shame as was a treat for us not something we can afford to do all the time!

A gem of a place! Lovely food and staff

Horrible experience/customer service. After our food arrive, we realised that some extras we ordered never came. We politely raised our hand to get the attention of a staff member, once we confirmed the missing order, a different member of staff stormed over to our table and rudely accused us of “clicking our fingers” to get the attention of the staff member before quickly walking away instead of calmly asking us what happened. After this, the missing order of food was brought to us, still missing an order of hash browns. As someone who has worked in hospitality previously, the way the staff handled this situation was completely incorrect and soured the experience. Safe to say this is not a place to return to.

Great reception for us, as a group of 8 we turned up on speck around 9:30 am we all had a different assortment of breakfasts from the menu, All were pleased with the food Staff were pleasant and served us quickly. One particular had a lovely latte macchiato 😀

Partner thoroughly enjoyed her meal, I tasted it: excellent. Mine? Steak was sinewy,too tough to eat .When asked if we enjoyed our meals I mentioned this .Response "Tough?" then nothing ......paid the bill and left .They obviously are deaf to criticism.........blame that rogue steer perhaps.......

2nd time we've visited while been staying at Cardiff, great place for breakfast. Will be back when visiting again

We passed a few cafes before we got to Brava. We asked for a menu to view before sitting and felt prices were reasonable. They also accepted our dog so decided to stop for breakfast. We were made welcome, given some dog treats for our pup and informed of where we could get some water for him. The lady who served us was very chatty and welcoming, portions were a good size and would definitely be happy to go back.

Really busy shop but they made us feel welcome and found a seat for us. Food was fantastic and really good value for money, try this before you go anywhere else in this area. Food was hot tasty and really good we loved it.

Really disappointed. Blonde middle aged lady. Made us feel very rushed and quite rude. Also had a grubby feel about the place, food left on table , when staff chatting. Not particularly busy , food was mediocre & over priced in comparison to other better cafe/coffee shops within the area.

A great option in a sea of great Pontcanna options. The food was fabulous and the staff were really funny and friendly. The kerbside seating is an absolute sun trap on a nice day - be prepared to wait, queue or walk a few laps of the nearby park on a weekend or bank holiday.

Had not been here for years, therefore returned with some trepidation lest might have deteriorated, but pleased to find had not. Corner cafe. We were welcomed on arrival and service was polite and helpful but not over the top. Food freshly cooked to order and good quality. One of us had the smallest full breakfast and was more than could finish, so they might want to reduce portion a bit, in these costly times. They do old-fashioned things like porridge (hard to find these days) but also trendy things like Eggs Benedict, a note on the menu mentioning that they were the first in Cardiff to do so, 20 years ago. If approaching from Cathedral Road you need to pass a number of other places, opened more recently than this one, which is the last business on the row, at the junction with a side road. They evidently also welcome well-behaved owners of well-trained dogs!

Recently visited for food, no hygiene rating in window. A number of cleanliness and food issues. Turns out from the council website that it is a ‘0’ hygiene rating! It could be a wonderful place.

I’ve wanted to visit here for brunch for a while after seeing and hearing about it. I was definitely not disappointed! I opted for a smoothie and the pancakes with bacon & maple syrup. The portion was a great size and layered lovely so I wasn’t having to save bacon. Honestly everything I could have wanted! The pancakes were fluffy and bacon was great quality with great thickness. I have been craving it ever since! This place must be a hotspot because there were lots of people queuing outside just to get in. Can’t wait to return! The staff were also really polite and friendly which always goes a long way 😊

Came here for brunch before heading for an event in town on recommendation. We were there in plenty of time. Drinks orders came quickly and loved the fizz options to go with. Unfortunately we managed to get through another round of drinks and our food still hadn’t arrived. Half of the table waited 40 minutes for their food and finished by the time the other half got theirs after waiting 50 minutes. There was no indication before sitting down that the wait was that long and unfortunately no apology for the wait when food came. Other tables didn’t seem happy either. My breakfast looked like it was thrown on the plate. The sausages were barely cooked and cold. The bacon could have needed longer. We didn’t have time to send it back or complain as we had somewhere to be as the food was so late. It wasn’t pleasant eating the food that quickly so took the shine off the experience. I could tell the food was of high quality so had potential. I also found the cafe very loud. Disappointing after such good reviews.

Not dog friendly. Manager had issues with us bringing in our dogs as they were wet and would ‘shake’. Despite proudly showing a dog friendly sign on the entrance. I’m sure it would be lovely if you were dog free.

Great brunch place....parking isn't easy in nearby streets though.

We go for brunch every Friday, to a different location within Cardiff & The Vale. This week was the turn of Café Brava. We were greeted warmly, and they found a table even though café was super busy. Coffee was gorgeous, and our 2 brunches were great. Loved the corned beef hash with poached eggs. Staff were great, it is obviously a popular venue, and they have a great menu with lots of choice for brunch. Will definitely visit again.

after reading reviews was excited to try... then my overcooked dry fatty steak came out and burst my bubble. no flavour really dry. eggs did look nice but was left uneaten. my friend had bacon sandwich which after 3 bites couldnt eat anymore and shortly after has been sick. id probaly leave 0 star if poss

Very nice luncheon - Friendly staff.

I often go to brava with some of my friends, everytime I go I thoroughly enjoy myself. The coffee barista with ginger hair was very attentive to my needs, ( I am lactose intolerant). The waitresses were very smiley and talkative, I would love to be friends with them! My usual order, lean and clean, always pleases me. The prices at brava are also great, not too expensive.

Friendly staff, quick service and really good coffee. I had the Brekkie Stack which was superb. Highly recommended.

Food was okay. Front of House staff seemed more interested in chatting to friends on another table than working. Was brought a teapot and milk, but the mug for tea was forgotten. Had to ask staff for a mug. Sugar sachets on table were all wet. When food arrived we weren't given cutlery. Had to ask staff again.

Visited Brava Cafe this morning for an impromptu breakfast and we couldn’t have been happier. Lovely decor, excellent service and delicious food. We had a veggie breakfast, scrambled eggs and salmon as well as pancakes and syrup, we couldn’t fault any of it. We'll be sure to visit time and again.

Just had the warmest welcome for us and the dog. They brought dog treats for the dog and iced water for us. The breakfast menu is one of the best we have seen and the Eggs Benedict was definitely one of the best! This would be in my top 5 cafés to visit!

Incredibly welcoming and friendly here. Very well priced. We ordered a meaty breakfast and a veggie breakfast. Both were exceptional. Dippy bright yellow eggs, seasoned well. A proper meaty sausage that's not been played with or overcomplicated. The grilled tomato usually a tepid afterthought on a breakfast, was actually cooked properly and seasoned with a little herb that made it one of the standouts on the plate. Bacon with crispy fat was tasty and the bloomer toast came with actual butter. All winners from me. The vegetarian breakfast came with Glamorgan sausages that were tasty and well cooked. Spinach seasoned well and some crispy hash browns. Will happily return!

Good selection of food at reasonable prices. Service quick and staff very friendly and helpful ( except when trying to short change my wife ! - JOKE between us and owner ) . We always call in when we are in the area. Recommended.

Lovely cafe, friendly staff and amazing food. Breakfast was lovely and our little boy loved the pancakes. Would recommend the veggie breakfast. The plus point for us is that they are dog friendly. It is nice to be able to sit indoors with the dog and enjoy your food. He was even given a little cup of dog treats to enjoy while we were there. Will definitely be visiting again.

Delicious!! Had the big breakfast, fully loaded, fella had corned beef hash and eggs AND porridge! Loved it everything was cooked perfectly... option of a virgin or bloody Mary with breakfast! Coffee was good, service was great, could not fault at all!

Well positioned close to our campsite this is a firm favourite for brunch on international rugby days. The Brava meaty breakfast will keep you going all day. Great scrambled eggs with smoked salmon too. The eggs Benedict on spinach great too. Service with a smile.

Event coffee shop. They welcome dogs and give them water and dog treats. Place is attractive to sit in, spotlessly clean and the food is excellent. Staff all lovely too

What a lovely place for brunch! The servers are very polite, friendly and professional. The restaurant is clean and bright and, the loo was spotless. The medium rare steak with poached eggs and garnish was perfect. The smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel was amazing too. Great quality coffee. Not open in the evenings at the moment, sadly! QUALITY EVERYTHING! I cannot recommend Brava enough.

Great brunch and super tasty smoothies, all finished with a lovely flat white coffee. Excellent. Fed and watered 3 adults for well under £40. Bargain. Great atmosphere, and dog friendly to boot which was nice to see. Staff were very friendly and attentive and the facilities very clean. All in all, we loved it. A great foundation on which the Pontcannah neighbourhood can continue to build on.

Cant believe I got called horrible by the owner for writing an honest review of my pizza that had a mosquito on it

From October apologies for the late review but I got given two small oily pizzas

My pizza was oily with a crisp mosquito on top, they didnt answer when an inquiry was raised I sent it query through the website as I tried to ring and no one answered, the query was never replied too. And after awaiting no response I have come to leave my review when you happen to not be open

Following a nightmare of a visit to another local restaurant. I am delighted to say our visit to this hidden gem of an eatery surpassed all our expectations. The welcome was warm, genuine and helpful and the food was amazing. The pizzas are handmade and excellent quality - if your 16 year old son tells you its the best pizza he has ever had then you know it is up there!Visit this place - you won't be disappointed!
