Great for cocktail masterclass, food and room hire for a large group on a hen party. Staff and atmosphere were great.

Quirky venue, quite dark and music very loud for a mostly empty place but drinks were cheap and nice, will come back for the offers they have on drinks

As a hospitality manager for over a decade I cpupf not be more impressed with the S&S team! I have used this bar consistently for the last 7 months and it has gone from strength to strength. The management is fantastic and have cultivated a strong team, Full of personality and talent. What a wonderful team, fantastic service everytime. Affordable drinks alongside top class service od hard to come by..... Keep up the amazing work <3

The worst “bottomless brunch” I have ever attended. Arrived at 11:45 no one told us what would happen or where to go. We were taken to a booth with a small table for 6 people. Only an hour time slot. By 12:35 we still hadn’t received any drinks. One staff member behind the bar for the whole venue. It was Abba themed with not a single Abba song playing. The food was cold, and when biting into our burger there was a bit of plastic inside. At this point I asked to speak to the manager whose response was “we offered to give you a new one and you said no”. No apology, When I said the table was ridiculous and we were eating off of our laps I was told that it was an overreach, I was Pretentious and he wouldn’t accept that because we had a table in front of us. (6 people picture for reference). The bar tender then told me she wasn’t even a bar tender and didn’t even know how to make cocktails. We ended up walking out at 12:50 because we had been given 4 cocktails (ordered 6) that were so watered down and disgusting. The manager was rude and never have I been spoken to the way he spoke to me after finding plastic in the food and no drinks we decided there was no point trying to reason with him again. £45 per person, never again.

Bought two cocktails and two beers. Asked barman if it was still happy hour and was assured that it was, so was somewhat shocked when a round that I was expecting to cost £14 came to £37! Looks like instead of being charged buy one get one free, I was charged two cocktails for the price of three! When I asked for a refund, I was told I would need to email this request.

Lovely welcome from bar staff (see photo's). Low lights and good music - nightclub atmosphere. Seperate room with large tables and writer lighting. Very reasonable drink prices, 2 for 1 cocktails. No food since Covid, but will get caterers in to use their kitchen for parties and group events.

17 of us attended here saturday for a Hen party and what a fantastic start to our evening it was. James was a gem and set us all up in the conservatory and very kindly brought out 2 bottles of prosecco with sparklers on. We were encouraged to put forward song choices throughout our visit and we certainly took advantage of it (sorry if you regretted this after our 200th song request james) It was a fanstic venue for a group to have an area to themselves and have some food and coctails whatever the occasion may be. The cocktials where delish and they had a lovely range of gins. The hen who is a gin fiend got to try aviation gin which she hadnt tried before so that was a bonus as well. Hen, date night, first date, girly get together look no more this is the place for you. Once again thank you to James and all of the staff. Also a shout out to the Kaylie the sales manager for dealing with all my questions, technology problems and last minute requests i really appreciate it.

Big shout out to Luke and James for providing us with excellent service, fun and laughter in our cocktail making class for a hen party. They were both funny and friendly and made us feel really comfortable. We were entertained with games, races and competitions. We had the room to ourselves and were made to feel really welcome. We had some latecomers and the staff were flexible and happy to wait. The quality of the food was lovely. All hot and tasty and so much of it! Excellent value for money, welcome drink, 3 cocktails each and food all in! Thank you both! Hen party not to be forgotten!

Came in for drinks after work one night as I usually walk past but never gave the place a chance. Regret not coming in earlier as I never realised how cheap this place was! 50% off all drinks between 5 and 10 everyday apparently, meaning my pint of Peroni was only £2.60! Staff were super nice and helpful too will definitely be my regular venue for drinks from now on

Considering the amount of students around at 9pm on monday night, Steinbeck's crowd was considerably diverse. Was nice to see happy hour making drinks so cheap! Club was nice and clean staff seemed so welcoming too, definitely will be back in future, 2.60 for pint of peroni bargain

First time in Cardiff and I’ve been robbed within half an hour of being here. Where I usually drink in Essex and London is pricey, so it’s not the first time I’ve paid £9 for a cocktail, which isn’t my issue. The issue is it literally worked out £2 per sip for a drink which came in a fruit shoot sized bottle half filled with ice. If I knew I would be paying £9 to not only be completely robbed and have all of 4/5 sips which had no alcohol taste whatsoever AND be contributing to the plastic problem with a plastic bottle AND a plastic straw I never would have done it. Terrible first experience of drinking in Cardiff. Greedy and ignorant establishment. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE ROBBED And it was freezing cold in there had to keep my coat on the whole time

We attended here for pre theatre drinks and food. The food was great and plenty of it and it came quickly. The service was great too Connor served us. He was friendly and helpful when we asked for extra sauces. I'd definitely recommend going and will go again.

Went to the Cardiff branch last night for some goodbye drinks with colleagues. It was my first visit but went on recommendation. Cocktails were Fab, I had 2 death in paradise which was like a dessert in a glass, and 2 white mochaccino which came with Kinder Bueno....I was very excited by this as it's my favourite chocolate and was a lovely twist on a delicious drink

Visited the venue on the weekend for a party. A great space and value for money on the 241 cocktail. Really disappointed with the customer service revives. A member of bar staff enters our area and knocked over balloons and tried to get me to drink a random drink that had been left on the side. Members of the party had said that the same member of staff was drinking shots behind the bar. Security were extremely abrupt when asking us to clear the space and leave the area. A real shame as the venue is so wonderfully decorated. Would not recommend.

Had my birthday party here what a great venue staff are friendly, there is a great selection of drinks including some nice cocktails. As a person of maturing years I do not feel out of place and always made welcome. Will be back soon. Watch out for there great competitions on Facebook.

We came here for a Hen do, and there were a couple of issues with our booking. Mel was an absolute angel with helping us out, and made us feel well taken care of and was incredibly nice, polite and lovely to be around. Cheers Mel for helping us out, you’re fantastic!

Came here with my girlfriend for the football. As the drinks are first class and extremely good value during happy hour. We pre-booked for their first BBQ event, but were disappointed as this was cancelled and then further disappointed as the venue had lost it's sound for the TV and therefore could watch game with commentary.However, the manager greeted us and explained the situation was out of his hands. Could see he was having a rough day as chef had let him down, he honoured the pre-ordered food and cooked himself for us and in way of an apology offered us several cocktails each. So we ended up paying £20 for 2 burgers and 8 cocktails. We went elsewhere to watch the football but this was most welcomed before. Really good venue, just wish they'd get SkySports in there and did more football!

To be fair, happy hour does run from 5-11pm so it's not really an hour!Cocktails are 2 for 1 so 2 poenstar martinis are £9. Wine and prosecco are £3.50 per class. Cocktail pitchers are £18 for 2. However both drinks neex to be the same.It's interestingly decorated with graffiti and booths, including one which is an old Waltzer car. It appears to get incredibly busy later in the evening with older teens and 20s, hence bouncers on the door.

Midweek happy hour 5 till 10 PM! Quirky graffiti-covered walls and unusual seating. Helpful friendly staff.

The Mrs and I wanted a bit of cheap and cheerful sustenance as we had been on the pop for 2 hours and heading to see Def Leppard. On the hunt for a wetherspoons as it was Tuesday and steak night we wandered the streets of Cardiff in the pouring rain hungry, wet and reaching the point of hanger and drunken limbo (not a good combo). From the outside Steinbeck and Shaw came across in the dark as a fine dine eating and drinking place so we decided to go in as all hope was fading and the gates were opening to the gig in an hour. Inside we were greeted with what I can only describe as a dirty American strip club interior. Now don’t get me wrong I do not have a problem with dirty American or any nationality of strip clubs as long as there is someone stripping. After finding a table that had enough light for you to peruse the menu and a table tall enough to eat off that wasn’t wonky we sat down. Giving up on trying to work out the prices of items we decided on Jalapeno burgers with lovely home cooked thick chips and sweet potato fries. Now every time I have gone out of my comfort box and gone for anything sweet potato related it has always back fired and why should today be any different. I ordered a bottle of house merlot and as it was 5 minutes into happy hour it was cheaper than what it should have been but i still didn’t know the price and neither did the barman as he undercharged me £18 i think. Ten minutes had passed when the barman approached me and said he had only charged me for just one glass of wine not the bottle so I had to stump up another £8. Now shimmery pink is not my colour lipstick even on the weekends so to find it plastered around the rim of my glass was a little off putting and as I had been charged another £8 I demanded a clean glass. I think it was the fourth glass she checked that was almost fit to drink from so she gave it a good 30 second polish to make sure and handed it to me empty. Now normally even in your backstreet dive they would give you a clean replacement glass and top you up from a bottle but no I had to ask her to tip my glassful into the clean one before she tipped it away. Now already annoyed by dirty glass almost loss of wine gate we waited 25 minutes for our food to arrive. I think Newport is 25 minutes from Cardiff so I am assuming they get the food sent from their Newport bar on request to Cardiff to save hiring a cook. My burger bun looked as if it was made out of ceramic and someone had dropped it and couldn’t be bothered to glue it back together and the sweet potato fries would of been warmer if she had ran them under the hot water tap. After handing back the chips and fries and asking for hot ones they reappeared within a minute looking like Mr Burns fingers too hot to eat and stinking of burnt oil so no guessing what happened to them. I ate only the burger that came with two small pieces of jalapeno covered in some orange stuff with a knife and fork and left very annoyed. On the way to the gig we stopped off in wetherspoons and had a g and t and I sat stroking the picture of a 2 steaks with all the gubbins and a bottle of wine for £22. Never again S and S will you see me frequent any of your bars (strip clubs). Def Leppard was amazing.

Stopped in here for food and drinks with the Mrs. Food was outstanding and 50% off drinks. The atmosphere was so chilled and relaxed. Loved the bar. Graffiti on the walls,industrial style lighting. A random bumper car placed by the door. Definitely an original place and will visit again.

The toilets are always dirty and never any toilet roll. These are basic things. Put staff on an hourly rota to check and clean the toilets and it's job done. When you have so many people the facilities need to be checked and cleaned regularly.

Arranged to drink and dine here with a group of friends. We had organised a party package prior to attendance. We were well looked after by all members of staff. The food was delicious and the food portions were very generous. Drinks were nice and there was enough choice. The bar itself was clean and the atmosphere was fab. We can not fault S&S and we look forward to going again soon.Thanks to all staff for a friendly and prompt service. We had such a good time eating, drinking and having a laugh we didn't take many pics.

A group of my friends decided to meet at Steinbeck for my birthday drinks. We had all ordered two drinks each since there's a 50% off deal before 11pm. We decided to sit outside since a few people smoke and another friend had poor hearing. My friend went to order a third beer, but a bouncer (going by the name of Richard) stood in his way and said he was 'too drunk' to buy any more drinks. (He wasn't, but I think the bouncer had nothing else better to do). However, another friend asked the bouncer if it was ok to buy a beer for said friend as long as he drinks it outside and all was fine. As soon as the beer was handed to my friend, the bouncer stormed over, lifted him off the bench and literally threw him outside the gate. Needless to say, my night was ruined by surly bouncer who was looking to pick a fight. I might add that my friend is quite slim and the least intimidating looking person ever, absolutely disgusting behaviour on the bouncer's part.

Me and my wife were in Cardiff for the Joshua v Parker fight and stumbled across this gem.We thought anywhere near the stadium would cost a fortune and have a long wait to be served, however we barely had to wait at the bar. Plus between 5pm and 10pm they had 50% off all alcohol. I was able to get a pint of Guinness for £2.60 which Is a price I don't think I have paid for nearly 10 years.My wife was also able to get dirt cheap cocktails which made her very happy.Overall, an amazing find! We'll definitely return next time we are in Cardiff

Picture the scene.....it's -3 degrees in a COLD Cardiff centre, with the howling wind taking another 10 degree off that - along with another 5 years off your life expectancy. The choice is; queue for 40 minutes outside your normal Match Day favourite venue (Walkabout) and risk fatal hypothermia (or worse!), or venture further 'inland' to a quieter venue where you can at least thaw out whilst necking a freezing cold pint of Peroni!!Hence, we found ourselves in S&S....just opposite the Jurys Hotel in Cardiff city centre, and housed in what looks like Count Dracula's favourite summer vacation house.With 8 large screen TVs and the 3 HUGE projected screens you are guaranteed a decent spot to see the Wales smash whoever they are playing, no matter where you are sitting/standing. What is less guaranteed, was being able to get a drink in less than 15 minutes as the hundreds of punters were all vying for the attention of the five extremely patient bar staff (far more patient than I would have been, credit where it's due). However, after successfully being served by the excellent staff, there was a real sense of achievement stumbling away from the bar carrying armfuls of beer steins - very Germanic, but watch the steps!! (...and kudos to the barman who found some steins after everyone had told me that there were none left!!!)All in all, a good rowdy but well natured 'mob' watched a couple of great games of Rugby on a freezing cold saturday...only in Wales!!.....and the Peroni only ran out just prior to Happy Hour - odd that!!!

I discovered this bar around 18 months ago, and have been back almost once a week, sometimes more than once a week..The cocktails are outstandingly good, and worth every penny, the ingredients are of high quality, and their diverse menu means there is something for everyone, including a plethora of 'mocktails' for those not drinking. As the name would suggest they serve beer in steins, and with a 50% off happy hour, running from 5pm-10pm, there is no reason you wouldn't go. Having had my fair share of all of their food, I'd describe it as Welsh/American Diner-esque, exactly the sort of thing you need t soak u the alcohol, but served in quirky containers, it carries through their fun personality. As you would expect with any city centre bar, it gets very busy, especially at weekends, and especially at happy hour, so be repaired to wait, but know that it is worth waiting for. Lastly I jus wanna give a special shout out to Ashton - Bar Manager, I can always rely on him to go that little bit further to make our nights out special!

A lovely bar! Fantastic atmosphere!Perfect for drink or food before the theatre, it’s right across the road from the New Theatre. The menu is good and the food is pretty tasty for pub grub. There’s also really good deals on drinks. I would suggest booking a table and drinks package through their sales office as we had a good deal for a group of us.

I keep giving this bar a go and keep leaving disappointed but the recent experience was the worst! They do good food and drink offers and its right next to the theater so we go there to have food before a show. Out of the 5 times we have eaten there only once did I not have to chase the food. Last night I waited 1 hour for burger and chips!!!! On previous occasions it was 45 mins and the same excuse all the time.. 'we have a lot of orders'. Funny, as the bar is never that busy! The staff kept telling me 5 mins 5 mins but 5, 10, 20 mins came and went and still no food. In fairness the manager refunded my money but ONLY because I insisted, this was not offered. The other problem is bar waiting times at weekends. If you only want a beer and you are stuck behind loads of people ordering 2 for 1 cocktails then you are in for a loooong wait. Yes they do good offers but if you are looking for cheap drinks head to Wheatherspoons! I have given up going to this place and will not return - absolute shambles.

Got an early beer before going to the show over the road. I had a 'Punk IPA' during happy hour and must say that was good news in every direction. If you are around the city centre, check this place out.Didn't have the food but looked excellent when served nearby.

Booked two booths for 20 people for my birthday. Only cost £25 for the booking and that was put back into the bar tab for me to use during the night! People were late so one booth was free, and the staff made sure it remained free until everyone arrived. The half price drinks offer between 5-10pm is also amazing! Had a great laugh here and the staff were great to us as well, the manager especially was great to me with sorting out the rest of the tab! Will definitely be booking here again!

I booked a booth for my friends 30th for the Wales V Scotland game. Lewis was super helpful when I was booking it and I thought it was great value for money. We bought two drink vouchers and the half price from 5pm - 10pm is a real winner. Food was good, filthy in the way you need when you've had lots of cocktails! Only thing is we bought a birthday cake for my friend and put it behind the bar, they didn't offer to bring it out, it was a real struggle to get it cut and when they did cut it they just chucked it on the table in the box so it wasn't very celebratory or a surprise for my friend! Saying that it's not enough to put me off as the food and drinks were good and all the other waitresses were really on top of clearing glasses off the table.

Was expecting a standard of food you would probably get in a spoons but it didn't even meet that. My milkshake had no milk from what I could see/taste but strawberries mixed with ice so I left that. Glad I had 50% off food before going. Maybe it's because it has just opened but it was awful.

Wow I have been to a number of restaurants but this is truly exceptional. The starter has dried Camembert with a limp salad. The main I ordered was Turkey in the Xmas spirit. Sadly for all of us it was in fact mainly pork. The actual Turkey was not visible. I raised this point and after some debate was given dry Turkey enriched by a lake of gravy. Truly remarkable in its efforts to be the worst place to eat in Cardiff

This was a Tuesday night and quite quiet so was suprised just how slow the service was, however when the food the arrived it was pipping hot and very tasty. Not sure I agreed with what the food was served in. Asked for a plate but not luck. I was stuck with 3 metal buckets, 1 with chips 1 with chicken and 1 with coleslaw. There's being hip then there's just plain daft.

Walked past here and went in, so glad we did happy hour !! Staff friendly enough not a bad selection of drinks very clean and good music not tried the food but the selection looks good. Will be back for sure as the bloke behind the bar was cute.

Called in with a few colleagues before a recent awards dinner. Happy hour was just beginning two pints of Peroni a pint of Punk IPA a lager shandy and a glass of coke all for coppers over a tenner certainly made for a very merry happy hour.
