Coffee#1 Wellfield Road in Cardiff

07/03/24 Very disappointed. Flat white was small and overfilled spilling into the saucers, the cake was not fresh, and our cakes were served on a saucer. I had a voucher that expires on the 17th, my app advised me after I paid, the barrister said it was my responsibility to manage my vouchers. No, I was not at all happy, far too many very poor service points, truly disgusting. My 3-star review on reflection is probably too generous.

Definitely in decline, and facing stiff competition nearby. Dirty toilets upstairs, left uncleaned from the day before. Took me two attempts to get a drink vaguely hot - cups not warmed. Response from the barista was passive aggressive. Tables uncleared and sticky. Very disappointing experience.

Third time here. Fantastic coffee. Staff lovely. Seating comfortable. Will visit again soon . Outside area if preferred. Many types of coffee to please everyone

We went here today after having a great food some nearby..when we came in the staff asked us what do we want..and then i told them that we want to have a latte coffee..2 caramel cakes 2 brownies for takeaway and 1 of each for dine in..the thing is the staff keeps asking again and again about what i said and keeps laughing and laughing about the word i said dine in..so me and my kids and my husband kept asking each other if there's anything funny about what i said..i look at her in a very angry look..but the woman behind the counter keeps laughing on and on and on and keeps repeating it..what a very nasty manners..i feel sorry for her parents that she never learn any manners..to all the people who dine and have a coffee in this place..be aware of this woman who doesn't have any manners at all..i'm posting this so that everyone will be aware..and to the owner of this place..hope next time u hire a staff..please make sure that they have some manners..coz having proper manners won't cost u anything..

Pretty good coffee. Good matcha and golden latte. There are lots of places to sit and a nice sunny area out the back. I just wish they had almond milk - they have oat, coconut and soy!

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! I went for a coffee the other day at welfeild road coffee one and was served by a young blonde waitress who was rude and obnoxious. She made no effort to make us feel welcomed and was very snappy and ignorant whilst speaking to us. It was an uncomfortable experience, one I hope doesn’t happen again as I enjoy the coffee at this place.

Relaxing place to have a coffee, decent coffee, good service and a relaxing environment. Certainly worth a visit when that throat is dry!

Coffee was nice. The food portions are quite small for the price but I suppose that is in line with most cafes. The atmosphere is relaxing and I would go again but only for coffee.

Had to give 3 stars as unfortunately our experience was tarnished by barista who didn’t even acknowledge us when we were stood in front of him for a few minutes. When he did serve us he was rude and condescending before speaking to the girls he worked with in a rude manner also. I think this was because he was longing for his break which he publicly announced he was going on after serving us. I asked for his name afterwards which was Tom. Shouldn’t be working in a customer facing position if he can’t be polite. Minus this, food and atmosphere was lovely though!

Bug thank you to the staff who helped me set up outside, after my internet broke down while I was working from home. The coffee is great too!

Visited coffee one wellfield Road today to treat a best friend to lunch.Spent 27 pounds on food and ordered 2 coffees.one was Luke warm and not skimmed as I had asked for.Took it back only to be told I would have to get back in queue to speak to woman on till before she could consider giving me what I had ordered.The staff were unhelpful and made no effort to ask if I would like a new coffee, so I said forget it.Will never visit that shop again which is a shame as I love coffee!Costa here I come!

Called here with my wife for a quick bite to eat and a coffee and really enjoyed.The food and coffee were very good and the staff were very friendly. Would definitely come back

Coffee and food are excellent and they welcome dogs. However the best thing about coffee#1 are the staff, they are amazing! So friendly and welcoming and can’t do enough. Especially Simon, outstanding!

As a regular customer for the past year I undoubtedly believe that it is the best coffee shop in Cardiff. The staff is extremely friendly and always welcomes me with a big smile. Coffee as well as cakes, especially tea cakes, are delicious. Definitely much better than any Starbucks or other big chains ;) I often come there for studying, but it is also a great place for a catch up with family or friends. Keep it up, you're doing great!

Busy, bustling, popular coffee shop. Regularly visit for a lovely coffee. Small sunny courtyard at rear.

Loved my cappuccino just like in Italia. Exceptionally friendly staff. Will be going back definitely.x

If you need a kick up the bum in a relaxing caffeinated way then this is the place for you. If you want a healthy snack I’d say go somewhere else. The cakes are fabtastic and the tea cakes are the size of an over grown mans hand! Soooo good. The staff are friendly and make you feel welcome every time you go. So I suggest shrug off the old Starbucks and get yo self to a coffee #1

This coffee house makes a great post-parkrun stop on Saturday morning (although I'm not sure which of the branches I found). It's certainly way better then Tesco! Great coffee, nice decor, great cakes. I wish they'd come to Devon.

Love this place, great coffee, good prices, nice snacks and fab ambience. Gets busy but well worth a visit if you love quality coffee.

I often pop in for a takeaway coffee with my dog, but the couple of times I've stayed in the staff have been very welcoming and accommodating of my dog. Giving her a nice bowl of water and lots of fuss! Delicious coffee too 👍

It appears that dogs are given Drinks in the same bowls that are used for porridge. They are also allowed to drink from them in the coffee shop - one dog was sat on the chair with his drink - shame because Staff and coffee are great

We love coming to the coffee shop and staff are generally very friendly but recently we have noticed the increase in dogs coming into the main area and sitting on chairs. Also very large dogs are allowed in and to be honest there is often an odour associated with them. Please can they be limited to an area at back of the cafe if possible

Not really good, people lounging with feet on tables etc, students just coming in for coffee spending hours on laptops. Awful service, very messy shop. No thank you

Love coming here, the staff are always relaxed and make you feel welcome and at home. Coffee is amazing. Its a very big shop, theres a upstairs and a veranda out the back. Will be coming again for good coffee

The other week I noticed how friendly the server was to the customer ahead of me, a young woman, so after her order was taken I expected an equally warm welcome - without the flirty chat as I am a person of a certain age - but no, I was barely acknowledged. A one off I thought.

If your looking for a great coffee go no further this place has it all, and staff with awesome people who always seem to be having fun.

We called in as a family yesterday (admittedly as Costa around the corner was closed) and were so glad we did. The choice of beverage and cakes was fantastic and the service impeccable.

We were introduced to this chain by friends who always go to #coffee1 in Albany Road - the staff there are friendly, welcoming and helpful, although the shop and it's decor are a little tired, the coffee and service are great. We thought we'd try the shop in Wellfield Road on Saturday - what a contrast! Initial reaction was good - young man took our food order and assured us it would be no problem - how wrong! Got our coffee and found a seat (having been told the food would be brought to us) - half way through our coffee and still no food - went to enquire and was told they were busy. Asked what we had ordered and was given half our order, which was cold, and told they'd bring the rest, which they did later, and this was wrong! The chain may be owned by S.A.Brain (large Cardiff brewery) - but these staff certainly couldn't organise a "celebration" in a brewery - very poor!

I love this Coffee#1 store and go often. Not only is it a pleasant environment to relax in, the staff are always friendly and remember you. Neil the Store Manager is a great guy, he really brings out the best in his team and makes the customers feel valued.

Called on the off chance table for two no problem staff friendly polite and very helpful table was found ordered food and three drinks overall okay but expensive menu limited and burgers were £15 plus Total bill was almost £60 true price should’ve been nearly 40 won’t be going again won’t recommend it

Really like it, good coffee and comfy sofas, good to read a book or just relax. Often jazz chill music

Lovely seating area both upstairs and downstairs, staff are friendly and atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable here. Menu is slightly pricey however food and drink is good quality.

An early'ish start to the day, we arranged to meet for toast and marmalade... It was just what we needed to start the day off with a bang, well, maybe a sparkle.

Friendly staff giving quick,professional service. Only called in for Americano but served with a smile. Very busy,lucky to get a seat. This reflects how good a place it is. Toilets immaculate. Will return....

A great place to meet and share coffee. Coffee#1 is a growing chain in South Wales and S. West England however they maintain a good standard of coffee.

Nicely located and good parking close by in the library. Enjoyed a relaxing breakfast and quiet time to read the paper.

I just love this place for coffee. Staff, the drinks and food are just excellent. The restaurant itself is quite quirky and very different from many other coffee shops.

I've visited coffee #1 numerous times, alone, taking away, or meeting friends, and I've never once had a bad experience. The place is usually busy around peak times of opening, midday, and early evening, but I've never had to wait long for a seat. The service has always been reasonably quick, and the staff are always polite and helpful. There is upstairs and outdoor seating, which is always clean minus a few left over coffee cups and plates.

We were here early afternoon on Sunday. Recommended for its food and drink, not recommended at all for customer service. The woman who served us was incredibly rude, abrupt and unsmiling. The cheesecake, brownies and espresso frappes were lovely though.

Popped in 5.30pm for a swift cup of tea and to make a couple of calls. I was shocked at how inconsiderate the staff were the racket made by stacking crockery slamming dishes it really was unbelievable gave up in the end had to move to front of coffee shop was still as bad. I let a staff member know why I was moving she just glumly glanced at the clock no apologies, no consideration and no I won't be returning again!!!

I've visit this coffee shop on a very regular basis. The staff are always very pleasant, the coffee a very high standard and the cakes and savouries fairly extensive, although not inexpensive. I particularly like the whole ambience if the coffee shop and the fact I can lounge on some chairs, if I get there early enough!!

We went to coffee #1 to do some work this morning but found that they don't have wifi for customers after ordering ☹️ Coffee & food is pretty standard so probably won't be going back

Service was quick and the coffee was decent for a chain. Had a couple of nice espressos and a custard pastry, which did the trick. A nice place to sit for a drink with friends.

what can one say it is your typical big chain coffee shop a mixture of comfy table and chairs average coffee that always seems to be overpriced for what you get.

First time in Coffee 1, staff were friendly and had good range of coffees and cake. Reasonably priced, comfortable seating would recommend

If you like Chain Coffee shops. This chain company is the best. Small, yet comfortable, with mismatched chairs but very good coffee. The have a good range of filter coffees which some coffee chains avoid. The food is pretty decent (though overpriced). The staff are really friendly and I would chose this chain coffee shop over others in the area.

It's nice to go to a coffee shop that's not a large, national, or international chain. This is relaxed and slightly quirky, but worth making the effort going to.

Had a walk around the park well why not go for a coffee on Wellfield road, there are a few to choose from and this would be a great choice

Standard coffee, expensive sandwiches & cakes. Good choice of juices and a few comfy chairs/sofas upstairs but the staff in here always come across as a bit rude which is a shame.

A 2-day stay in Cardiff, and we had excellent coffee here and at Coffee#1 in Cardiff City Centre. Good coffee, good atmosphere, delicious Welsh cakes and maple syrup flapjacks. We could linger without feeling rushed. Highly recommended

We visited Coffee#1 in Wellfield Road for the first time and found it to be a great place to go for an excellent coffee. Highly recommend anyone to go and try it out for themselves.

This is a nice setting on Wellfield Road with a range of cake and good coffee. It is a good stopping off place while shopping on this street.

Met a friend for coffee, talked at length as had loads to catch up on. We were able to talk over our coffees without feeling the need to rush, or having to order more as in some other coffee shops. Good choice of different milk, my friend only has soya milk - not a problem here, I only like skimmed, again no problem. Coffee is not the cheapest £2.45 for a regular latte, but it is a good flavoured coffee and not with a bitter after taste as some coffees have. Good place to meet for a lazy cuppa!

Very spacious coffee bar with a nice outdoor area. nice furniture and layout with friendly staff. There is also a good cake selection.

Considering the clocks had gone back managed to get a table in the conservatory area for coffee. Highly recommend the coffee and the hazelnut & praline brownies are to die for!! Besides the downstairs seating area there is also space upstairs and as a result don't feel as if you are being pushed out and have to hurry your coffee.

I visit this coffee shop at least once a week as Coffee #1 are the best coffee shops around!! The staff are so friendly & know my order before I ask for it!! The cakes are to die for & the toast etc. is always really lovely. Reasonably priced & compare favourably with other coffee shops in the area. Definitely recommend to others.

I try to stay away from the large corporate coffee chains and like to try smaller local chains.

I am glad to see this business grow. They often have a coffee that is new to me, are clean, efficient, and slightly cheaper than Starbucks. They also pay tax to our government, when Starbucks deliberately claim they make no money.

The cakes are so good I have to give these coffee bars a miss from time to time to protect my waistline. On the minus side, the house coffee is too bitter for my taste and is served in large mugs: I'd prefer smaller portions.

A friend and I stopped here for a hot chocolate and toasted tea cake. The hot chocolate delux was delightful and very tasty as was the toasted tea cake which was very large and fresh. The place was busy but we managed to find a comfy seat upstairs. The only downside is the price, rather expensive but I don't mind paying more now and again especially as both the food and drink was lovely.

there's coffee chains and coffee shops - somehow Coffee#1 is a chain that comes over as a personalised coffee shop . Not all are as good as the Pontcanna coffee shop on Cathedral Road but this one is super because of the staff - I have no reason to even be in the area and I cross Cardiff for my mocha and fresh orange juice and if feeling really bad a lovely croissant. Interesting to people watch here as well. So yes great coffee but even greater staff

All the drinks are lovely here, especially the smoothies (and obviously the coffee!). Also as strange as it may sound there is just something about the toast here, it's lush! Crusty bread, toasted on a panini press is the one!

Well, the only thing I dislike about this place is.....it's is too popular hence you cannot always get a seat and that's it! Love the coffee, love the quirky furniture and cannot get enough of the Gluten Free Chocolate Brownies

Coffee#1 is a great venture and I enjoy my coffee at various ones across Cardiff - mostly for business meetings to be honest.

We've been coming to the Wellfield Road branch for several years with friends and family. It's easy to forget just how good something is when you're so used to it. You know you'll always get great coffee and seasonal drinks, with a good selection of cakes and pastries. The real stars though are the fantastic staff who make every visit a real pleasure.
