Superb food! We’ve been converts to Cafe Bombay in Chinley for more years than I remember. The three dishes I had this evening were deliciously complex. Treat yourself with Prawn Puri, the Bhindi Bhaji especially and the Chicken Kahari!! Utterly sublime.

Called in for a take away on our last evening on holiday in Chinley and very glad we were too. The curries were really tasty and the mushroom rice a perfect accompaniment. Very much liked the taka dhal, good flavour and with some lentil bite. We always reckon that an Indian restaurant can be rated by its poppadoms and they were crisp and light. So job done - a big tick from us.

This is a fair curry house, where there are few curry houses, but the waiter was rather grumpy, the food quite sharp/ tangy and the tables sticky... We could not work out why all our dishes had the same tang, but they were all edible and pleasant enough but we’ve had a lot better.

Food was OK but nothing to right home about. Sticky tables. Owner/waiter extreamly rude and very grumpy. Went on about being very very busy and two people couldn't sit at a table for 4 even though there was already two people sat at a table for 4. These two people and my friend and I were his only customers all night. He sat us at a table which meant he couldn't serve the other couple in the corner so he just shouted at me to move and pushed my chair. If we had had transportation we would have walked out. In a small village it is not good to treat customers this way. I have only bad things to say and pass on to my local friends. Now they will not be his customers. He stood over us at our table when he gave us the bill and while we paid and he stood and counted out the money at the table and tutted when he got no tip. I will not be returning here again.

My colleague and i were working here first time in the area been to 2local pubs and the local village shop everyone received card payments or contact less. However went to cafe bombay for a traditional Indian meal my colleague and i went into the shop/restaurant he ordered food then asked to pay with card the very rude older man said no! cash monies only. Luckily my colleague had enough cash to cover his food.I hardly carry cash so asked could I pay contact less or PayPal email or something other than cash and I was just ignored like a dog.I'm really really mad about this! A simple no sorry sir our machine is broken or something.. But to be 100% ignored at point blank and no communication. He just walked off and ignored me.This establishment will be reported to derby local council, HSE, trading standards and all parties involved with protecting us and our food hygiene standards. If the persons occupying these premises cannot communicate with English speaking persons in a English speaking community serving food to local English speaking person there's a massive breach here and needs to be rectified!I will not mark them down on food as I was not able to purchase any :(

Treated like scum.Told the restaurant was busy and fully booked and gave us a table for two. This ment he couldn't serve food to the only other two customers without pushing past my chair he did this shouting MOVE.the other couple were sat on a table for 4. We then asked for a bigger table but he argued they were very busy. His words were 'I don't have time to argue with You' when we said ok we will go he changed his mind and let us change tables. No other customers came in that night. We were there from 7pm till 10pm. Food was ok but nothing special.Table was sticky, so much so that cutlery and glasses were stuck to it. He brought my good and put it down on the table and then said MOVE THAT to the other side. Why? When we asked for the bill he brought it to the table and stayed. Just stood there while we both gotthe money together. He then counted it out at the table and tutted because we gave him no tip. The other couple that were eating there said on there way out 'your made of better stuff than us. We would have walked out he was so rude'We will not be going back there.

It had been far too long since our last visit, so when our married daughter suggested going for a meal with the family recently, we decided to book a table at the Cafe Bombay. We were delighted to discover that usual high standards of food and service had been maintained during the years of our absence and we all thouroughly enjoyed our meals.I particularly loved my main course of Chicken Tikka Biryani, which was served crowned with an omlette and a separate dish of vegetable curry. Been going here for ages, and will continue to do so. It's not a fancy or pretentious place, and I like this because all the staff are so friendly and are always asking how we're getting along. I've eaten plenty of curries at various places, and this is my favourite, because along with the service, the food itself is very good, and unlike some Indians, doesn't feel like you're eating 'mystery meat.' Bring your own booze is always a bonus and means it's a cheap evening out.

The food is always fresh and tasty, it has all the usual dishes you'd expect from an Asian restaurant but also some occasional specials, although I'm not sure how we're supposed to know about them as they're never advertised, word just gets round. They are also happy to make up dishes to suit individual tastes! The fluffy nan bread is delicious and they serve good sized portions. Cafe Bombay is run by a family from Bangladesh. I was introduced to all the family members working in the open kitchen by Simon, the face and voice of the family. The menu is very extensive, and there is an additional 'secret menu' of family recipes, which I tried and was very impressed with. The food was exceptionally tasty; though not fiery or fierce. Everything was freshly prepared in full view of customers. The family is Muslim, and therefore do not sell alcohol - although they are happy for customers to provide their own and to open bottles. We visited during the fasting month of Ramadan, and were quite surprised to see the family preparing and serving delicious meals while they themselves were fasting. One word of warning; the restaurant does not have facilities for card payment - this is strictly a cash only establishment (although there is a cash dispenser in the shop next door).I would highly recommend Cafe Bombay.

As ever, Abdul and his team served up a fantastic meal, definitely the best curry house in Glossop and the surrounding area.
