Visited the Cafe a couple of times this year but this visit was very disappointing and had certainly gone done hill. Sandwich was very unappetising - chicken looked like it wasn’t fresh at all, to the point I didn’t want to eat it. The bread had mould on and in the end the whole meal was sent back. Won’t be back in a rush - far better places to eat in Tetbury.

Cafe 53 serves the best coffee I've been able to find in Tetbury. If for no other reason it's worth a visit on that basis alone. It's also pleasantly decorated in an arts and craftsy way with lots of seating both inside and outside in a garden area.

I visited with a friend at mid-day. We both had coffee and cake. I had the coffee & walnut cake and my friend had the bakewell cake. The coffee was good and the cakes were both generous portions. Just a quick heads up... We were lucky because this place can get really busy at the time of day we went, but on this occasion there was not many people in. Also, because it's Tetbury you have the usual inflated prices, but based purely on this visit, café 53 is worthy of a 5 star review. I will go back.

Shame I can't rate this place higher. Cakes were nice as was the coffee, but they were uncovered. The staff member working then proceeded to have a coughing fit over them and didn't wash her hands afterwards! Completely unacceptable.

Called into for lunch by chance via an entrance from another shop, but it is accessed also from a single door on the street. Follow the corridor to the end to find this small but perfectly formed little boutique cafe with a lovely garden area at the back. A range of light meals are available such as soups, panini, salads and crepes to burgers. All fresh and homemade. I had a lovely tomato and basil soup with some great bread, as only wanting a light lunch. There was very tempting looking cakes. Good surprising find.

We had enjoyed breakfast and lunches here over the last 12 months, lovely choices, excellent food and really nice staff. They always do specials on the board as well.Last Thursday of every month, they have a "Jam Jar" which is evening dinner and live music. It is a set style menu with various dishes to choose from, plus a bar. Josh Kumra runs the live music and is a superb guitarist and singer and he invites people to get up and sing. It is very cosy and very friendly.

This is such a hidden gem in Tetbury, you'd never imagine from the exterior what amazing things are hidden inside! The decor is beautiful with a lively garden, the food is delicious and fresh and you can see it being prepared in the kitchen. The service could be quicker but the food is worth the wait so it's not really a big deal. It's also a dog friendly cafe which I think is really great!

We visited for lunch and was impressed with the place itself. Good atmosphere and very friendly staff. However, hygiene could be a little better, cakes are uncovered and we found a hair in our food. The food was promptly replaced, but that kind of puts you off eating it. The soup we ordered arrived but was a different one to what we ordered (it was eaten anyway as it was delicious), but it's the basic things that need to be addressed in order to get a full 5 'stars'. Food very good though, and I'm sure if we visited again, it would be a very different experience.

After a morning of walking we really needed a cafe which was tasty, good value and relaxed in atmosphere. We found cafe 53 after walking down the high street. It had a great selection of drinks including homemade milkshakes and smoothies. The food ranged from crepes to chips to sandwiches to lamb burgers. Everything we had tasted great, it came quickly and the decor had bags of character. They have an outside seating area and it's much bigger than it looks from the outside on the street. Great value for money. Wonderful surprise! Would definitely return if we were in the area and recommend it to all.

Visiting Tetbury for the first time on a rainy Saturday morning. We stopped at Cafe 53 for lunch. It is a very informal cafe with assorted tables and chairs an eclectic mix. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There was a garden area which looked nice but as it was raining everyone sat inside.I ordered a Mediterranean veg panini which was served with a very tasty homemade slaw. Very nice.My husband ordered soup of the day which was tomato and basil. This arrived with bread and butter. Coffee was good. Overall a pleasant lunch.Even better the rain had stopped when we left the restaurant !!!!!!

Celebrating my birthday with a trip to Tetbury I had chosen this place online as it had a price of £8.95 for a full breakfast. On arrival the price was £10.95, I asked what the reason for the increase was and the waitress explained there had just been a price increase. I recommended to her that she looks into updating the website and she agreed. I was disappointed though as for 2 of us that was an extra £4 I had to spend. I also didn't like the fact the cafe was playing Radio 1 quite loudly; it didn't seem to fit the otherwise relaxing ambience. The food however was Ok but I doubt I'd return.

My husband and I ate there at lunchtime. As it was a warm sunny day we sat out in the small courtyard garden which was charmingly rustic, though I would have liked to have seen the tabletops given a good scrub - there is rustic and grubby! We ordered cold drinks, a bacon and brie panini, and a chicken mayo sandwich. Both meals were delivered quickly, presented nicely, and tasty with plenty of filling. The accompanying home made slaw would have benefited from more dressing but otherwise the food was good and reasonably priced. The waitresses were friendly, though pink hair and 'holey' laddered tights may not be everyone's idea of smart dressing. Overall though we would be happy to eat there again.

Cafe 53 is quirky, fun and has good food and an almost open kitchen. Walk down the narrow corridor into the open eating area with its skylights and a delightful garden. The ambience is friendly, laid back and welcoming. The menu is equally good with a good selection of lunch time favourites and really interesting smoothies and desserts. This place clearly has a loyal clientele. We ordered the bacon panini with brie and the gammon, eggs and chips ( I was needing comfort food!) with two coffees. The Gammon and egg was good and very satisfying, the panini was less satisfying but still welcoming. The odd thing about the place was the service.. we came and no one said hello or do you want a table, so we watched as people took a menu and did the same and then ordered at the till. Although staff were friendly they did seem way too relaxed for great customer service. The food and drinks came about 16.50 GBP which was good value for money. This is a good cafe but it good be a great one. It has a good vive, interesting food, well cooked and just needs to to strengthen the customer bit..we will come back though

Visited here last Saturday with a friend for breakfast. On arrival we weren't even acknowledged by the girl behind the counter until I initiated conversation, only then were we served!Asked for the price of a victorian lemonade and the girl reeled off about three different prices and then said "I dont know". Fortunately, the other girl behind the counter was pretty switched on and managed to find the correct price for me. Obviously, if a member of staff doesn't know the price then thats fine but please just say I don't know and then find out for me. I think it was her tone and manner that annoyed me more than anything, just sounded like she wasn't interested! We had scrambled eggs on toast which was really tasty, it is a little pricey but can't really complain as the food was v good. Also sat looking onto a waterfall which was really nice. However, the customer service again let this cafe down. Minimal eye contact from the girl serving us and just cold body language. We both agreed that we weren't made to feel very welcome. I would have liked to have tried one of the crepes afterwards but quite frankly I didn't want to put up with the service any longer. I would give 5 stars for the varied menu and good food but 0 stars for the customer service, hence the overall low rating. Would like to come again as I did really enjoy the food and character of this cafe but, for the time being I will stick with other cafes around Tetbury, which provide much better customer service.

I have been to this cafe many times before - my experience has always been very pleasant. Today was awful. They young lad who served us did not know what he was doing. It was totally dis-organised. We ordered food and 15 minutes later was told that we could not have one of the items ordered. We order something else. The first plate came out but this was after we had been in the cafe for at least 40 minutes in which time we had both drunk a pot of tea. There was no sign of the other order despite being told it was on its way. We decided that the service and staff were appalling so we paid for our tea and left the first plate of food on the table. We never saw the full order. It is such a shame as we usually make this a meeting place every couple of months.

We went in at midday and had excellent hot chocolates, Roma panini and tomato and basil soup while our little one had spag Bol which she loved. Small seating area at the back which would be nice on a sunny day. Staff friendly and efficient. Popped in this morning following a friends recommendation, but sadly very disappointed. One or two things amiss and (being British) you let it pass but this morning one thing leading to another requires a little moan.Right lets start at the beginning, serving a hot coffee in a glass with no handle may well be quirky and cool, but you can't pick it up. Nice to look at though.Next, I had the avocado spinach and egg on sourdough bread and it also looked great! It would appear that looks can be deceiving though. The beautiful roasted tomatoes, were stone cold, as was the cooked spinach, why? Its breakfast, you know the start of the day, warm you up meal. It would be so much better warmed or hot even. Its not lunch or a salad. The crushed avocado sadly had so much undercooked (or raw) garlic in it that it was inedible. Now I really love my garlic, but one forkful had my mouth burning and told me that is all I will be tasting for the rest of the day, I tried another small bit, exactly the same! I scraped it off into a little pile at the side of my plate. The eggs were perfectly poached, however rendered instantly cold when their perfect yolks spilled onto the other cold ingredients. Right, service gripe. (Sorry, I shall be brief ish).Partly our mistake, we picked a table by the back door. I understand that the door must open and close, its a door, thats what they do. But if the delivery man knows that when you open it, you close it after yourself in order not to cause the customers distress on a chilly morning (I thank him now for his curtesy ). You would have thought that when the staff / owner swanned in and out of it they would think that as people are sat right next to it, it would be polite to close it behind them. A simple task, failed on more than one occasion and not just ajar, but wide open! But thats ok, you have customers to get up and close it for you, don't you.Lastly, if you want me to pay for my food and service, and believe me I'm now wondering why having had little of either. Telling me I would need to go into the shop next door because a staff member is chatting on the phone (same line for the debit card machine) and pay there will really get my goat. Its not like they could call them back or use a mobile is it?In closing, my wife's food was nice and most of the staff pleasant. Was I unlucky, maybe? So rant over I'm off to put the heating on and warm up. Oh and find some mouthwash.

With just a little effort from the kitchen, the food could be really lovely. The halloumi on my salad was obviously cooked off early and let to sit as it was dried out and the texture ruined (the salad itself was nice though more of everything else and less of the olives would have been appreciated). I came back on a Wednesday having eaten there on a Sunday with a friend. The food we had was that good I happily went back however on the Wednesday they had Contractors (obviously friends of the chef) doing some work in the yard. We ordered a chicken mayo sandwich on granary which arrived and tasted delicious. The table service was great and was very attentive however we were somewhat distracted by on several occasions the Contractors working outside walking into the kitchen having been outside (and for info spitting on their way back out). We mentioned this to the owner at the time after feeling somewhat disappointed who wasn't aware of the issue and said he would speak to them. Either way I doubt I will be recommending to anyone unless the issue is resolved. The food is great, service great but I have my worries over the control of the Contractors on site so close to the kitchen. I will add a lady ordered a sandwich and a cup of tea which arrived 20mins apart and refuse to pay after being made to wait so long for a simple sandwich. The Contractors were called in for their lunch just before her sandwich arrived. 2 mins too late for that lady. Such a shame.

We stopped in for hot chocolate and tea to escape the rain. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant is dog-friendly in the lounge area. We did not eat here but it came recommended to us from a few different people.

Fantastic interior and ambience in this little place that you would never guess from the outside. We had a salad and a pannini which were both really good. I would definitely go back and recommend a visit if you're in the area.

It’s a while since I heard the ‘call’ of a lunch in town, so it seemed only right and proper to heed it by coaxing ‘Flossy’ out to one of the day-time specialists: Café 53, which, unusually for Tetbury, remains relatively unchanged since opening. Yes, it’s grown a little, and the garden’s been developed for outside eating, but the ambience, menu and casual décor (influenced by ‘Domestic Science’, to which it’s connected) have been consistent throughout. And by the way, I also recommend the shop as a charming way to spend some time before treating yourself in the café.Another good thing about Café 53: it’s one of the only places I know that offers a ‘proper’ sandwich i.e. two slices of fresh bread with a filling, instead of an inadequately stuffed ciabatta - often the tired go-to of many outlets these days. So, with sandwich in mind, we headed inside.Beating the lunch-rush, we had plenty of time to study the menu and, chalked onto boards above the glass garden doors, the tempting specials, including soups, chicken cordon bleu, spare ribs and a home-made scotch egg, which we readily agreed was perfect to share as a ‘starter’. A far cry from the ones my mother used to make but not quite keep together, or those supermarket deli counter things of seemingly pretend egg wrapped in pinkish wadding, this had a nice crunch on the outside of tasty sausagemeat, with a just hard-boiled real egg, served on fresh, dressed salad. Very nice.Having set my heart on a sandwich, I chose a well-filled chicken and mayo, which was a good size and un-fussily presented. Since so much else there is ‘home-made’, it would’ve been nice for the mayo to be so, too, but that’s being picky. The granary bread was good - a tiny bit dry but not enough to warrant complaining. However, on paying the bill I mentioned it to our very welcoming host, who apologised sincerely, telling me that ‘heads would roll’ as a consequence…‘Flossy’ chose the house burger with bacon, cheese, fries and salad and oh, my goodness… absolutely delicious! The burger was probably the juiciest and tastiest I’ve had and was fully complimented by having real cheddar on top - not that scary, square orange stuff that comes in pre-prepared slices. I was told years ago that much research had gone into developing processed ‘cheese’ slices that stuck only to the burger and not the bun – as if the lack of any real cheese flavour wasn’t already enough of a worry! Anyway, the bacon was also very tasty; the portion of fries was good, too. An excellent choice, for sure.To finish, some desserts were available, but more appealing to me were the home-made cakes on the counter. Unsurprisingly, ‘Flossy’ was full, but I couldn’t resist a slice of lemon and lime polenta cake – rich and buttery, with a gentle citrus tang that was very more-ish. With a rich, deep-flavoured latte or two, the whole thing was highly enjoyable and, at £33 all in, pretty good value, I reckon. I’ll be sure to heed that call again…

We visited for lunch and were amazed by how open and spacious the restaurant is; it does not look much from the road but it opens up as you go back. The menu was broad and catered for most tastes. Service was quick and very polite and we really enjoyed the food. Overall we left thinking that we should have visited a lot lot earlier and that we would defiantly return. Recommended if you are looking for a really good and pleasant and value for money eating experience in Tetbury.

We wanted a venue for an anniversary party, and this was perfect. We already knew that the food and coffee here is great, but it was just as good for a party. There were 50 of us and the space was perfect. The food was up to standard, with gorgeous stews, fish pie, salads... the fresh fruit salad platter was a picture with an amazing centrepiece carved melon. Couldn't have asked for more, a huge thanks to chef and all the staff. We even went back for brunch next day!

Really friendly and efficient service, even when it was very busy. The place itself has huge amounts of character and is a lovely place to stay for a while. The food was good as where the drinks. Simple and tasty but nothing particularly different to a normal brunch cafe. The atmosphere is what makes it worth going to. Would definitely visit again.

Really nice chilled out place to eat and drink. First time been here since they added the extension, which whilst new looks like it's always been there. Cheerful, friendly staff. They claim to do best coffee in area, and have to say they may be right, as the Americano I had was great, really rich and smooth. We had soups -goulash and tomato & pesto, both hot, home-made and delicious. Cakes are billed as home-made but not made on the premises, though are made for them by a lady in Nailsworth I think -didn't try but they looked really good.

If we lived nearby we would be coming for their Italian night which looked amazing. Shop attached next door looked good fun but didn't have time to look. Would highly recommend, good customer service and fresh yummy food!

Our lunch was served in a bistro style environment by friendly, cheerful staff. Excellent lamb kebab (gluten free) and delicious fish cakes both served with fresh salad. Cake and coffee to follow - carrot cake (no gluten containing ingredients) and a blueberry bundt. Neither of the cakes were overly sweet and both were fresh and full of flavour. This is a relaxed, easy-going no-frills establishment which seems to put the emphasis on good fresh food with lots of flavour. We will visit again.

After the delights of investigating the numerous antique shops along Tetbury's high street, you may want to take a little break in this fab cafe. You are guaranteed a warm friendly welcome. There are a variety of seating options, grab the sofa and a newspaper, sit at a bench seat or find a seat and table to suit.Really great menu options.....but if you are here for a a brew and a cake...please try a 50p macaroon...or two, they are delicious, mouthwatering. I tried the vanilla and after biting through the delicate macaroon layer you get a gorgeous hit of the filling, a sensation which last on the roof of your mouth after you have swallowed...ummmm, very tasty. Plenty of other tempting cakes on offer as well and a very refreshing brew.

Been to Cafe 53 a number of times for breakfast/lunch & it has been lovely. Unfortunately their 'special' Italian evening was an utter disgrace. Olive oil/ balsamic vinegar with bread sticks??? Fried polenta was a horrible stodge with melted cheese & three of us got served 10 mins before the last of our party?! We paid up after two courses and went to Caio for some decent Italian food. Was a shame as done well would have been excellent.

Whenever we visit Tetbury to see our daughter we have lunch at this café. Eating in the courtyard with it's rustic charm is a great way to enjoy the well presented food, in all the times we have eaten here we have always enjoyed our meal, the staff are friendly and the service good. Don't expect 5 star plush seating as this would destroy the character of the old building. Down side is that Tetbury is a busy rural town and parking can be an issue but don't let it put you off as it's well worth the visit to this café. Visit and you will not be disappointed.

Visited Cafe 53 for Breakfast today after a nice lunch a few weeks ago. It was not good on arrival it was quite empty and the table we wanted to sit on wasn't cleared. First the coffee arrived and at no point we were asked if we would like sugar so had to grab that from another table. We ordered two american breakfasts after reading reviews on how great it was. When it arrived it looked like a dogs dinner soggy pancakes with lots of burnt bacon shoved on top lots of scrambled eggs but not seasoned. It was very stodgy and being an avid cook myself I could of done it 10 times better. The maple syrup was basically slid across the table towards us and we weren't even asked if we wanted sauces, again I had to get it from another table. This really bad experience cost us £23.50 I was to mad to argue at that point of time, so thought the best was to share this on trip advisor. This is obviously a good place to eat judging by reviews and a past visit but after todays experience I will never go back or recommend it again. If they could at least get one thing right on this visit then maybe I wouldn't have to leave this review. Maybe someone was having a bad day but theres no need to take it out on a paying customer. The american breakfast and waiting staff could do so much better. Hopefully the owner can fix this in the future.

Visiting Tetbury we needed to kill an hour or two and this small establishment was suggested to us. Suitably quirky down a passage with seating indoors and oustide. We took a couple of rickety chairs in the walled garden, which was a great suntrap. Pleasant staff. W had a glass of wine and a beer, a salad and Ham, efgg and chips. All great and at a reasonable price. I followed up with a Pot of tea and my wife a crepe. All in all in a lovely hour and a half.
