Such a shame ! Called in for light lunch before visiting friends. What has happened ? The upstairs cafe used to the place to go. You always had to reserve a table. Now it’s a very limited menu, served by very pleasant , but very busy waitress. Iced coffee was £3.90, served in squash type glass that was full of ice with probably only an espresso shot of coffee. No serviettes on the table or given with the meal. The washroom was really grubby and definitely needs checking more regularly. Such a shame !

What has happened to this once lovely restaurant. It has closed the upstairs and we were squashed into a small area at the back of the shop. The menu has been shortened to about seven choices, more snack food than a meal, by the time the hard working waitress had rushed upstairs and got our food, it was tepid when we got it. And definitely not well cooked. My grandson and his girlfriend were visiting and we took them for a treat, the treat turned into a nightmare, I wished we had walked out and crossed the road to the Yangaz. Altogether it cost over £70 for just four modest meals and a drink each, and we came home hungry.

Lunch was very good with friendly waitresses who were very efficient . The problem with this place is the prices they are charging for the gifts etc downstairs. At least 4 times the prices of Dunelm for what looks to be identical products. Stop treating the good people of Cranleigh as cash cows, even the middle classes are flocking to the likes of Lidl and Dunelm now as school fees and mortgages rocket.

Calming atmosphere and the food, when it came was flavour some and cooked well. When we first sat down, there were two staff serving, this quickly dropped down to one. It took a while before we could place our order and longer to receive the food. Every now and again another person would appear and then disappear again. It was a shame, but credit goes to the lady who wore her hair up and got on with the job, being on her own didn't fraze her.

I ordered a roast chicken takeaway salad which cost me £8.50 which I am happy for pay for a decent salad. All I seemed to have was the browner chicken and no chicken breast which was very disappointing. Very little salad so the large salad box wasn't even half filled with salad.

Had a late Saturday lunch here on the way through Cranleigh. The food was deliciously unfussy and hit the spot. Good burger. Good sausage bap and awesome fries. Good avo and poached egg. We wanted to go somewhere for lunch. 3people. Ordered 2 bacon baps....no more baps....., they are right next to a bakery and the sainsburies, so I paid 6 pounds for 1 VERY PLAIN piece of bacon between to slices of white. I ordered avocado with 2 poached eggs and Mediterranean bread, that is what I got. No garnish no slice of tomato to add some jus to it, no garnish , 8.95 I paid! Half an avocado en 2 eggs....really ?!?! What a rip off ....

140 is a favourite of ours in Cranleigh. The store can be pricey but it's great for quirky and different gifts. The food at the café is always delicious and the kitchen staff are expert at catering to my children's fussiness. The cakes are amazing too especially the fig and orange! The only drawback is there isn't a lot of electrical points to plug laptops etc into so although the café is excellent for a meeting the time you can stay is limited to your battery life!

My wife and I called in to 140 yesterday while passing through Cranleigh. My wife has a dietary intolerance and needs to avoid rapeseed and palm oil, which not only are many dishes fried in, but a host of basic foods may contain, e.g. bread, margarine, chocolate. Having walked up and down Cranleigh High Street encountering little help from the various eateries, we were getting hungry and beginning to despair, especially when 140 confirmed that they do use rapeseed oil. Nicky and Toby, who were serving, told us that they would be able to produce something for my wife to eat based on various ingredients that were free of rapeseed and palm oil and could be cooked from fresh in olive oil. True to their word Nicky worked together to ensure that my wife received a meal which not only could she eat free of concern but was also tasty, as was the beef burger I ordered. I highly recommend an establishment that goes out of its way to provide a real service to customers. This is rarer than one might think in our experience. Thank you to Nicky, Toby and the chef at 140. It just happened to be my wife's birthday too, so 140 helped make her day.

This is always a favourite of ours when we are this way. We have been here many times and the food is always consistently fresh and good. Today I had the grilled field mushrooms with goats cheese and salad and it was truly delicious. My husband said his breakfast was equally tasty. I've been to 140 a few times now. It's a perfectly reasonable (if somewhat expensive) cafe in Cranleigh High Street. It's frequented by the local residents who either seen to be young mums or stylish older women during the day (the joys of working shifts). I've just never been particularly impressed by it. The staff are polite and efficient, but there's something lacking (for me). It almost feels as if it's trying too hard. I always leave thinking ' maybe I should have gone to Costa. At least I'd have got change out of £10. I can only suggest that you have a look yourself and make your own mind up.

We've been going to 140 Cafe for a long time now and we enjoy it. However, it can and does get very busy with perhaps large groups or families being quite noisy but don't let this put you off. The food is really very good, I have had all the usual burgers or ham, egg and chips and it's great. My partner had salmon on rosti which to her surprise she enjoyed immensely (she is fussy about her fish! ). The staff are often young and very polite and the food arrives hot. I also saw some excellent looking salads passing by so maybe next time I'll pick a healthier option. Keep it up 140 !!

Came to Cafe 140 with my Mum and Dad last Sunday. We sat down at a table around 2.25, my mother immediately went to pick up three menus at the front serving counter. After 10 minutes to chatting and deciding on our food and drink we then ordered. When my mother went up to order, she was then told that she was too late because the cafe stops serving food at half 2 on a Sunday. At no point were we told this by any signs or by any of the staff. We missed food by two minutes and would have ordered straight away if someone had informed us. Very poor, especially with a menu claiming 'served throughout the day' on some food items. We left and went to Manns newly opened Cafe which is classy, friendly and serves hot food (paninis and rolls) later than 140 on a Sunday afternoon.

I regularly review places and was extremely surprised that this restaurant is not rated higher amongst restaurants in Cranleigh - particularly as I have eaten in several. This is the 3rd time I have chosen to eat here. Why? It's informal, has a good buzz, a mix of business people working on laptops, friends, families and couples. It's a chilled place with informal shared tables plus individual round ones and a place to sit at the counter. The food was genuinely home made, healthy and tasty. We shared a crayfish and prawn sandwich on granary and a butternut squash, feta, almond salad. The sandwich was not loaded with mayonnaise - for me a positive and the salad was a delicious tasting flavour. On a Tuesday lunchtime the place was full - we were lucky to get a table as a couple left. Service was however swift. Until the next time......

I've been here for breakfast, lunch and tea over the last couple of years and, whilst Cranleigh has plenty of restaurants, 140 offers a great selection of salads, soups, vegetarian options and quite a good platter for young ones as well as the more filling meals! A pleasant atmosphere and papers to read and a few toys for young children, a good meeting place to catch up with girlfriends before a little shop downstairs.A couple of downers... the restaurant is upstairs and there are no lifts for buggies and it does get very busy at the weekends... which does mean slow service.

Locals still know "140" as John Grahams. So if you are meeting up with a local and you suggest John Graham's they will know what you mean. This is essentially a large gift and clothing store but with a very good quality café up stairs on a mezzanine level. The café is not big and so is often crowded and because it is very popular. Visited on Saturday luchtime with colleague for our lunch hour. Found tables "reserved" for over an hour in advance and people walking out as nowhere to sit. Decided that we would be less than an hour. Sat at one of the tables. Ordered and paid. Waited, waited, waited & got food after 45 minutes... Macaroni cheese "special" was bland, not cheesy, no seasoning and for £9 was very underwhelming. My colleague's hot scotch egg specail looked nice. We had 15 mins to eat and run. Nice enough place but slightly chaotic and not worth the money really. Great looking cakes. Would have had one for dessert but did not have time before table needed to be vacated. Did see some really good childrens meals passing by while we waited. Would have been a much better experience if we did not have to wait for so long for simple dishes.
