Great chip shop food, not greasy

Very pleasant and delicious food

I usually go in here all the time as food is usually best around elgin amd lassies are lovley and always fast food and alwayz fresh im so nervous now and wont be back in 2nd time in last month or so i have went in and owner was so rude last time i ignored it though ok maybe i was over thinking and again i go in today im shocked to be treated like the way he was towards me when im polite i clean up after me and i was made to feel like abzo crap no need for it esp when i suffer with bad mental health shocked as i always keep my food in wrapper when i sit in to eat and lassies have never had a prob with it then he gurned at me today as i didnt ask for batter on my sausages as i though they new what i have as i have same everytime im in and am not from elgin so didnt no you had to ask for batter so well done for makin someome cry and feel so low on a second occasion because your own rudeness as rest staff lovely couldnt fault them chippy is always lovley and its always clean top marks for at

Great fish & chips, with excellent service, the food was freshly cooked and served straight away to the table.

Ordered 3 fish and chips all of them has lots of bones my 5 year old daughter didn’t finish her food just too much bone, we always eat fish and chips every time we visit Scotland (no bone fish experience). Service is good though, fast. Table needs a bit of cleaning.

I had the chips and curry sauce which was good, portion sizes were very big as the box wouldn't close with the amount of chips. Prices were reasonable.

Looking for a quick lunch when on holiday. I work in a chip shop doing deliveries and in my opinion know a thing or two bout chippies. Chip as t cadora were the best chippy chips I have ever eaten. Not a bit of grease on plate, crunchy and fluffy in equal proportions. Very large portion. Quite busy but staff were attentive and friendly. Well done everyone.

I have been a customer here for years always enjoyed the food but I called tonight for a takeaway and the customer service was appalling. The woman had an attitude the whole phonecall, she clearly did not want to be there. Having worked in the service industry myself this sort of behaviour is just not acceptable. Yes it can be busy and hard at times but that call was just ridiculous. This person should not be in the service industry. Awful attitude! It's a shame because it used to be a great spot.

I was surprisingly surprised with the quality of fish and chips that was delivered speedily and hot ✓ I had boycotted this place about 8 years ago because of its standards! Now I fully recommend Decora's they have improved enormously. Thank you Decora ✓✓✓

sat down, love a chip roll, asked if the rolls were buns or actual rolls, was told they were rolls then i was served with a bun??? chips stale tbh not impressive like 4/10, jumbo fish finger is brill tho! waitress rude almost dropped my food on me?? weird. wouldn’t recommend, visited as i’d heard great stuff. chairs really uncomfy too - back hurts writing this.

Very disappointed tonight with meal phoned at 5pm and it didn’t come till 6.15 the meal was cold the paper that it was wrapped in was all wet obviously been wrapped up and forgotten about the fish wasn’t that great either very let down 😞

This place was disgusting the tables and chairs was all a mess the food was disgusting was out with my friend and baby nephew and they forgot his juice my friend had to go up and get it, the chicken nuggets were chewy wouldn't even feed it to a pig and also forgot my friends cheese was just all round pathetic and vile i give it NO stars

The chicken nuggets were far too over cooked and chewy, the table was messy had not been cleaned along with the high chair and chairs that were at the table, asked to have them clean and they got a quick wipe no spray or nothing just a wet cloth, the high chair was still dirty after it had been “wiped” you’d think with covid things would get a deep clean, my cheese was missing from my chips so had to ask for it, juice was missing and they didn’t come over to ask how you are or how your meal was, I had to go up and say!! Horrible place

Have to visit when up visiting the area. Chip tea is always good value for money

Sad - The Cabrelli Family used to run a clean and perfect shop. It was not clean and chips felt undercooked. Surly staff and too long a wait.

We recently went here after a shopping trip around Elgin. We were quickly able to get a seat and left for ages to order. Then we did order, we didn't get our meal for about 40 mins. People who came in after us were being served their meal before us. Eventually a waitress came and said our wouldn't be long. Then when it did arrive, there wasn't cheese on the chips, as ordered. When I pointed it out, the waitress rolled her eyes and took my plate away. She returned with a huge amount of cheese on the chips. More cheese than chips and that had just clearly been dumped on top. The Cafe itself is very dated and digngy. That staff are more interested to speaking to themselves and we were made to feel like an inconvenience. Definitely won't be returning

Popped in to Ca dora after an eye test, was late and couldn't be bothered cooking. Knowing that this chippy had been the best in town and knowing that it had changed hands, I thought I would try it out, it was close to my car too. I ordered single red pud and a single rib steak. The 2 youngsters in front of me ordered 2 portions of chips. We were told it would be a minute or two and it would be ready, fine. 20 minutes later I got mine and the kids were still waiting! In the meantime a bloke (possibly the new owner as he went to the till and grabbed a wad of cash and stuffed it in his grubby pocket) walked with a unlit ciggie in his face and through the shop. I got my items and wished I hadn't bothered, the red pud was ok, but the batter was chewy, rubbery and overly oily, the rib steak thing was horrendous, tasteless and the batter inedible, again very oily, hard as nails as if it had been dipped in the hot oil as a reheat. Again I presume the woman serving was an owner, face as long as a wet week, abrupt and played with 2 little kids in and out of the hot oil fryers.The new owners should have kept the original staff, they knew what they were doing. I only rated it 1 because the review needed a number, or I would have left it blank. Won't waste money in there again.

I go here every Tuesday with someone I support . Can not praise them enough for there service . You get a great banter and always fresh food . :)

This really has to be the best fish and chip shop in the area, for quality, value, service and friendliness , it is hard to beat. Exceptional food at great prices.

I used to eat here a lot but it’s a “diner” now and it’s closed in the evening when you actually want a meal! So went for a sit down lunch the next day. Eventually got served and then waited ages for the food to arrive. Worst fish & chips I’ve ever had the misfortune to see. Never going back!

Really disappointed with the food and service we received last week when we dropped in for an afternoon chippie, I don’t usually write bad reviews but I was so annoyed this time! The 2 ladies on dutie offered absolutely terrible customer service, didn’t wash their hands after dealing with a verity or food and cash, threw us dirty looks and handled my friends food several times. she actually ended up picking the burger up with her grubby, fake nailed hands and handed the burger to my friend, it’s not the worst offence out there but along with the rest of the terrible service and miserable faces offer by the 2 ladies, it took the biscuit!! And to top it all off when we finally got out of there with our food, not even wrapped, gravy spilling out...it was basically stone cold! I don’t expect 5* service from a chippie, but simple decent service with hot food isn’t exactly hard, Some training is needed I think and a resit on the basic hygiene levels required in a kitchen. Really sorry to leave the owners this review, hopefully it was just a really really bad day!

Went in and was told to sit down. Only one waitress on and she was busy. Decided not to wait and get meal to go. Looking forward to nice fish supper. I noticed they had a special price for pensioners so thought i would take advantage of the discount. Walking back to car opened the box. I had a thin slice of fish and a few chips. Smaller than the kids portion i have bought in other fish shops for £3.50 and you get a drink with it. Cost me a fiver. And it wasnt very nice. Very diapointed. Felt ripped off. Wont be going again.

Friend insisted on going into here for food, even though I had pointed out other, far nicer looking restaurants in the High Street. We ordered at the counter and were told to take a seat to wait, we mentioned to the lady at this point we were going to sit in. My friend's order of chips came and as the lady was wrapping them up, my friend told her it was ok we were going to sit in (again), so she didn't need to. We moved seats - every table was dirty, until we found a less dirty table, and waited for my order. My friend began to eat his and the lady came over to tell us mine would be a few minutes. A minute or so later she pops over again to tell us we had ordered takeaway and we can't sit in. Bare in mind we were never asked during ordering whether we were sitting in or taking away, we had mentioned twice we intended to sit in and the place was far from busy with lots of empty tables. She didn't even offer us the option of sitting in for an extra charge, just turfed us out. We took our food and left to eat it in the car. Food wasn't great but wasn't awful, very overpriced for what it is. Poor customer service though.

Arrived plenty of seats waitress took the order. Then came back to tell us only had a large fish and a small fish?? Its a chip shop surely they would have stock? Food arrived yes one large fish one small fish was tasteless chips lots of thin nothing to them chips tea was great came with tbag but no recepticle to put it in strange.

Quick service with a smile at good prices

As a well Kent face in Elgin it is good to see the tradition of good , tasty fish and chips is being continued . The staff are friendly and very efficient and the food is not, tasty and well served. Prices are reasonable and the good folk of Elgin seem to be continuing the support for the New (ish) owners.

Visited cadoras on a trip to Elgin as the Aroma coming from it smelt devine. Well it must've been a diffrent chippy I was smelling as this place is a dump. Still looks the same as it did when I went as a kid twenty years ago. Same yellow hard wooden booths. My partners food came with free hairs in it and my haddock supper had a very unusual texture to it and no taste. My guess is it was far from fresh.higher prices than the any other chippy in the area also. Won't go back, place sucks the big one.

We called at Ca'Dora yesterday for lunch. The restaurant was not busy. Three members of staff were present behind the counter. One served a take away order for a customer and then the three resumed a conversation, totally ignoring us. We waited for a few minutes and there was still no sign of anyone coming to serve us so we got up and left.

Smell of sewage. Really terrible had to leave before we got our food. Lady said they couldnt do anything about it, shocking.

Just as the title says I won’t be returning here anymore. The service has gone right downhill while the prices have gone right uphill. The food is so bland and tasteless it was so nice when the old owners had the place but these new owners don’t know anything about running a chippy.

Went with family member who asked the manager if any gluten free items. He was nothing short of rude, said you wont get any gluten free items around here and are you just being fussy! Clearly we left and wont be going back.

I have been here many times over the years and it had been refurbished since my last visit. No more re filled bottles of tomato sauce and nice wall paintings

Work quite close to this chippy in Elgin and could easily buy every day ! This is a popular place at lunch times. My work colleague quite often gets chips and gravy or chips and cheese. Both are delicious!

Great staff, fast service, food was excellent. Maybe busy day or not enough staff but floor was very greasey , quite ah few tables needed cleaned after people had left.. But defo go back......

What a miserable bunch of staff! It took them 5 minutes to acknowledge us then when they did everything seemed like a bother. Won't be going back!

The vinegar smell drew us in!!! ...glad we did, fish nd chips , Bread nd butter, mug o tea! What more could ye ask for? ....lovely!

Under new management, it's got better, give it a try. Nice portions and fresh fish, made with care. For my taste the batter could have more flavour, better seasoning. Nice staff and friendly place to have a bite.

I 've twice gone at lunchtime recently this restaurant is understaffed and very slow, it used to be the go to place when you were working and had limited waiting time, not now. Don't try and put your order in at counter that's a no no. They only have two staff serving who can't keep up with demand. They're not interested in customers when I complained I overheard staff saying they didn't want to serve me anyway. I won't be back, this used to be a thriving business.

Reasonable Price Chip Restaurant

This is a traditional fish and chip shop, almost takes me back to my childhood with the big fryer as one goes in and then the 'stalls' on the left. Excellent fish and chips and good portions too

Definitely an improvement on the last proprietors, having been in Elgin for 52 year's most of which this establishment was under the ownership of the same family it was "SPOT ON ",the last owners let it slip, but it is definitely on the up again 😆👍

Semplice ristorante chip & fish per un pasto veloce.L'ho notato in quanto frequentatissimo dagli abitanti del posto. L'offerta é incentrata sul cibo fritto a prezzi popolari. Devo dire che l'hamburger mi ha soddisfatto ed anche le patatine. Provate !!

La visita de un miserable mojado, noche lluviosa, no nos dimos cuenta de que era casi de cierre, pero nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos por una camarera simpática, sirve enseguida, y disfrutamos de una deliciosa comida de patatas fritas recién cocinado (patatas), arroz con haggis, torta de carne y dos tazas de té encantadora todos por el precio increíble de 11 libras - ¡wow! ! Las porciones eran generosas, ni una pizca de grasa y muy, muy agradable. Cuando nos dimos cuenta de que lo estaban cerrando, nos dijeron que nuestro tiempo y sentarse mientras que queríamos.

Fancied fish and chips for lunch on a visit to Elgin, so we popped in here - just a regular chippie with no frills. Service was fine and the food was OK, but I can't recommend it.

Had an absolutely awesome sausage supper the other night at the Ca'Dora. Not the first time I've been here but I felt it was only right that a give a good review.

Real traditional fish and chips, the way they were 50 years ago. The seating booths are the very same as I remember from 40 years ago.

We opted for pensioners fish and chips @£5. Fish which was cooked to order was perfect along with big portion of chips.

Popped in the other day for a red pudding supper. Awesome!! Been visiting foe years & never got a bad thing to say

Great food always pop in for something when I'm in the area

Chips were nice, battered burger was surprisingly nice for first try. Not much more to say but id go back again.

We sat in and found it took a very long time to receive the food. The food was barely warm when it arrived and was, as other reviewers have noted, rather small portions especially for the prices that were charged. We would probably try somewhere else next time. On the positive side, their chips tasted wonderful. As and when I have a chip craving, I might return for a takeaway of those.

The service was quite slow and the food was average. Waitress too busy chatting to other members of staff.

Think the title sums it up. Food is lovely but they give you a small plate then pile the food on it to make it look like there's heaps to eat ... Which there isn't .. The bread & butter is similar to asda smart price and a bit of a conn but what's worse is the watered down vinegar please stop doing this and leave proper Sarsons on the tables for us to enjoy .

Interior décor really dated and the seats near the door were freezing.Food was ok, but our tea was served lukewarm. Prices reasonable.Our visit was marred by having to listen to the Chinese owner speak to his wife on the phone for an extended period - we could hear her as clearly as we could hear him !

Yup, it hasn't changed since it was opened but who cares?!? It's clean, basic & a damn good chippy! Word of warning do not walk past this place on an empty stomach as you will succumb to its luring smell of sharp vinegar & well chips (obviously)!
