Sadly, since our last visit, this cafe has gone downhill. The menu has become more limited and the cake options have been reduced, which is a shame as the selection of cakes used to be wonderful. The idea of serving food on a wooden block covered in greaseproof paper is not my idea of fun, but maybe it helps to reduce the washing up ? The only cake offering for gluten intolerance is a chocolate brownie. Do people think that is all we eat, as it it the only offering in most poor cafes. The decor is not as clean as it was and it seems a bit run down. I am guessing that the only people who use this cafe now are people who are there for meetings. What a shame, as this used to be a favourite, but not any more!

Went in for a full english and was not disappointed. The lady said it was her first time cooking in that kitchen, she smashed it. Everything cooked to perfection. Even the bacon which normally you can guarantee the rind is not cooked properly in most places. This was awesome. Will deffo be back.

Order was taken, total mess up with order. When received it was not what l ordered. Told it was granary and it was wholemeal. Also, ordered tuna mayonnaise got tuna and cheese. Waited over 30 minutes and got stale cakes. Soup was bitter. So unfortunately had a bad experience. Would l go again. NO!!

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here. The staff are very friendly and the space is light and airy. All the profits that are made go to the Mix youth charity so another reason to pop in and enjoy a coffee and cake!

I visited Cabbages and Kings on school holiday with the kids. They love the breakfast and home made brownie. I really like the coffee and the cakes and bakes option. It is also amazing that profits go to The Mix youth charity. Recommend it for all. Plus good Vegan options too.

Had a lovely lunch served by a really friendly team. Nice surroundings and the money goes to support a charity. What's not to like!

Sadly the day we went the drinks took so long to arrive we had finished our cakes and were virtually ready to leave. Then I made the mistake of going to use the toilet and it was in a bad state - not something I'll be repeating

Absolutely fabulous breakfast! Lovely big portions and such good value! The staff were so smiley and kind, even helping out my forgetful boyfriend by giving him a candle to put on the brownie for my birthday ! We wish we were local just so we could go back! What a wonderful place, and always good knowing your money is going to something good.

This evening my father bought me a vegan cheese burger and some vegan chilli and cheese fries from Cabbages and Kings. I’m always hesitant about vegan food as, in my experience, I’d be getting something like a bean burger which I’m not a fan of. The burger I had this evening was incredible! It was a meat substitute burger that tasted amazing, and the vegan chilli used on the chips was a great tasting meat substitute. The vegan cheese they used was also delicious! I’ve had some horrible tasting vegan cheese in the past but, what ever they used, was incredible. For anyone who is vegan, vegetarian, or simply wants to reduce their meat consumption, I’d really recommend the vegan options from here. It’s so nice to find a place that caters for non-meat eaters and makes such an effort! Great quality food and definitely a 5/5 for me ❤️.

After years of supporting The Mix they returned the favour by not allowing my daughter to sit where she always sits. The table was empty. My daughter was visibly anxious and I explained she had autism. She can not cope with the main coffee shop area. The lighting and sounds in there overwhelm her which causes significant distress. The young girls point blank refused even though other people were sitting in that area. We had no choice but to leave, wasting the car park money and having to return home with a very upset little girl. She only wanted an apple juice and it took huge courage for her to go in, her first time going in anywhere like it in months. We will not be back or supporting this organisation anymore as we don’t believe in disability discrimination.

Friendly service and delicious food and drinks

I spotted C&K as a potential snack target during a journey break in Stowmarket and it's fair to say that if you weren't looking for it you'd pass it by.It's right on the edge of the town centre in a community hub building, and you have to tramp down a corridor to the back of the premises to find the cafe area, cleverly divided so that visitors with small children can stay in their own corral and run around without annoying grumpy oldies like me.During our midweek lunchtime visit the team certainly weren't run off their feet but the food is very attractively priced, very fresh and inventive - we shared a crisp and tasty chicken and tomato quesadilla (avocado was an extra, but no thank you) together with a generous halloumi and beetroot salad on one side of the table and a creamy chicken and bacon salad on the other.They take a lot of pride in their coffee but we were gasping for water in the middle of a heatwave and stayed with soft drinks, followed by a pot of tea for one for me which provided three good cups.Spotless loos, a spacious garden area, very friendly staff - an all-round bargain.

Love this place, the food is great value for money and super tasty and friendly service from the staff. Seating can be a little sparse at busy times. Just be patient or ask someone to share, I'm sure they won't mind, the locals won't bite.

My most favourite place to eat. A great place to meet up for lunch with my mummy friends and their kids. Wonderful family area where you can relax knowing the kids are safe. Friendly staff, nothing too much trouble and if course the food is outstanding. If you can get on one of the evening events you will not be disappointed. Can't rate this place enough.

Cabbages and Kings is a must try! Its in an ideal location with parking opposite. The food is lovely, the staff are friendly and it has a great modern vibe to it. I will definitely be returning in the near future!

Visit here quite regularly and absolutely love it, the food is excellent (try the pancake stacks for breakfast) and very reasonably priced. Great if you have children as they have an area 'fenced' off with toys so you can enjoy your food without the little ones getting bored and 'escaping'!! Staff are friendly and helpful, just an all round pleasurable experience and I will continue to visit often.

Never disappointed with a trip to Cabbages & Kings. We love what this does for the community & fully support that. Food is always outstanding. This is the only place my Autistic daughter is happy to go to. They are happy to make adaptations to her food as it has to look the same each time. We love sitting by the window as the actual coffee shop area is too loud for her.

I ordered pancakes and they were still raw to the point you cut through them and pancake batter leaked all over the plate and I don't rate their coffee either

The mix does a brilliant job for the youngsters of stowmarket and cabbages and kings is brilliant. Food is always fantastic and my wife is very fussy with her coffee but she loves the way they make it there. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. 10/10 for you all.

Wow, it was amazing. I had it with bacon instead of ham which is still delicious. Very generous with holandase sauce so I can not complain x

I regularly pop in here with fellow mum's and we're always made to feel welcome, even when breastfeeding. They sell lovely smoothies, milkshakes, panini's and cakes. I also popped in with my husband for his birthday and we enjoyed a tasty stack of pancakes!

Relaxed atmosphere. simple but wholesome food.

One of my favourite places to come for brunch or lunch as the staff and very friendly and helpful when adapting things to suit my dairy allergy I would highly recommend the vegan pancakes and also the tuna toastie.

Open only on the 3rd Friday of the month for a wonderful al a carte experience. You need to book on-line because it's one of Stowmarket's best kept secrets. Really good choice of food; really good value for money; and really good service. How Casper and his team produce food of such quality in such a small kitchen is amazing. Drinks list is great value. Whole venture embodies reasoning behind the Mix and I'm proud to be able to be a small part of it.

I met a colleague here for coffee and stayed on for lunch too. The staff were very helpful. The cafe was extremely busy and there was a 20 minute wait for lunch which was clearly explained at time of ordering so no problem at all. The menu is varied and would appeal to most tastes. The coffee was particularly good! The cafe has a nice clean modern vibe and I will definitely be visiting again.

Really beautiful coffee, strong but no bitterness, just as I like it. I also had a soft cheesy scone which was of a very ample size and perfect consistency. My husband had the largest pancake , full with ham and cheese. The place was well run and immaculately clean. Thank you for a lovely breakfast. Definitely recommend.

Apple & Parsnip soup enjoyed today was superb. Generous portion, superb taste with a lush winter kick & a nice touch of parsnip crisp croutons on the top all served with a crusty baguette! Great food helping a great work

Dropped in on the off-chance on the way to Norfolk and found it at the back of The Mix at the end of the corridor. It's a great looking youth centre with facilities, Macs to use, lots of games and all kinds of courses for young people to inspire and educate. All the money raised by the cafe goes to support the young people using The Mix. Wonderful!

We visited here for breakfast this morning and had x 4 full English . It was absolutely delicious and plenty to eat. We had 2 x big breakfasts and 2 x regular breakfasts with tea,coffee and orange juice. All were beautiful cooked and presented with the fried egg spot on and the sausages were so tasty. I asked the waiter about them and apparently make their own twist while cooking. Tea and coffee were good too. The staff worked really hard to please all customers and were helpful, polite and all while being under a lot of pressure as it was so busy.This place is a gem in Stowmarket

Such amazing food been traveling Asian, Australia, New Zealand, Bali etc and this place is sooo surprised me and my family! The food and service was excellent top notch honestly it’s so good loved it and will go again thanks!

this place is slightly hidden off the high street but well worth the visit , breakfasts are fab , the pancakes are huge ( lemon meringue ones) with lots of cream ...light lunches are good value and good quality ingredients , staff are always friendly and helpful , the cakes are delicious , and often a piece comes home with me ! would recommend this place

The food here is really good and very reasonably priced and you get a very decent portion so is great value for money. There is a good menu and always a great selection of cakes. Love that the profits go towards funding the great youth work that goes on at the Mix

Cannot recommend this cafe enough, I have had breakfast & lunch here a number of times, always excellent ! But yesterday I had one of their specials - halloumi and avocado salad which was absolutely delicious. I don’t like fresh tomatoes or cucumbers and the staff where really accommodating switching them for a couple of different items. Really looking forward to when you open the outside space for eating too. Well done to Keith and his team

What a well run cafe it is hidden away if you're looking for it but if you walk through the doors of the Mix and carry on walking you will be there or ask at reception,the young people who work there seem dedicated,all staff of the Mix work for the communities young people so all the cafe proceeds is ploughed back.

Lovely spacious area, comfy seats or tables, toys for the little ones. Great choice on the menu, various diets catered for. Worth taking those extra few steps to the other end of the high street to enjoy this place!

All ages frequent this spacious and modern cafe, lovely staff, very attentive and great attention to detail,Nike home made shortbread hearts with coffee, they do a superb vegetarian/vegan breakfast and the prices are very reasonable, I have introduced my partner and friends to this place, and they love it too,

This morning was the first time visiting. We really enjoyed the cafe. The staff are so friendly and very accommodating when you order your food. Lovely food and the food was served very hot. Will definitely be going there again.

Highly recommended, called in for lunch delicious food and reasonably priced, had the soup and best I've had in a long time. Staff are lovely too. Vibrant place give it a go can be busy but it's a great facility.

I kid you not, their soup is the best. I`m a veggie and would highly recommend their Broccoli & Stilton (on sale today) and Vegetable soups. They are so good I have 2 in one day. Awesome service and food overall, give it a go you won`t be disappointed :)

Met quite a few weeks back for coffee with friends, A lovely generous delicious sized cup of coffee served with a small biscuit.Welcoming and Friendly Staff made some lovely gluten free biscuits for me while enjoying my lovely coffee,Cheese scones enormous which my son enjoyed and a real treat for him to enjoy when he came in from school.

Visited the Mix today for snow fiesta xmas market, absolutely brilliant! An enjoyable hour passed. Visited cabbages and kings for coffee, lovely coffee and fantastic cakes :) Staff really friendly will visit again most definitely.

This is within the Mix building and is excellent for a light lunch. It embraces people of all ages and there is a wide mixtures.

We visited the mix for the first time yesterday for the Activities unlimited fun day, we had never been here before and thought it was brilliant.

The café is inside the MIX in Stowmarket (an incredible building). The mix of ages of the people that use this venue are varied young to old. This makes it a great and lively place. Great for a light lunch with a wide and varied range of good quality food served by attentive and friendly staff. Great for a coffee stop and a chat and highly recommended!

A true hidden gem in the heart of Suffolk.

The Mix is a great place for young people. Therefore, there are a lot of young people both inside and outside of the front of the building. Going all the way through you will see this coffee shop that welcomes all ages including a play area for the tinies.

Great food and menu at good prices( delicious pancakes, sweet and savoury). Staff welcoming and friendly the cafe has a relaxed atmosphere with a child friendly area. I would recommend to anyone as I do family and friends.

I asked Keith to cater our wedding, we were having a picnic style wedding breakfast at home in our garden, rather than a formal sit down and wanted a range of food that could fit in with that. Keith really listened to what we asked for and provided a great range of salads and individual quiches , together with an amazing range of scones with clotted cream and jam, brownies and cookies all baked on the morning of the wedding so they were beautifully fresh.

The restaurant at The Mix is the place to find for a coffee, lunch. The most delicious home made cheese scones! The Manager, Keith Myyes, is welcoming and has some fantastic home made soups available. All ages welcome.
