Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh, City of

We came to this club on a Saturday night, a very nice place, especially the club part and therefore the underground part. The system is good and the DJ also played some good techno. However, we were a little surprised that there weren't many people. Every time you smoke you have to go up and leave the drink inside

The staff are quality, the drinks are divine and don’t even get me started on the music !! ;) 10/10 would recommend

My balls were tingiling at the customer service i received at the front Door. After paying a fair price for entry i then decided i needed a dose of posidion kisses so i ventured deep into the toilet. The recent Decor which has been upgraded to a good standard outshines most other venues. I recommend this venue ten fold!!!!!!!!!!!!

Came to the Cafe and was greeted by a very friendly and professional doorman called Connor who welcomed me into the venue. I then entered and was greeted with the most amazing vibe, the music was amazing, the prices and service were top tier, shout out to Michael who was very attentive and fast with serving. 10/10 would recommend Cabaret Voltaire to anyone looking for a nice cocktail and great vibes!

The female bouncer was very rude to me when I tried to ask her a question about tickets and when I called her out on her inappropriate attitude she denied me entry. As mentioned in other reviews, this is a classic case of uniform syndrome and a frustrated individual abusing her modicum of power to satisfy her fragile ego. For the sake of your peace and enjoyment on your night out, steer clear of this club. There are much better places in Edinburgh to spend your money where you will be respected as a customer.

Visited here for the first time and could not be disappointed, we had great service at the bar as the club was not overcrowded so served quickly and the music was brilliant and made for a great start to our evening out in Edinburgh.

The Manager was swearing at people outside and bouncers were very confrontational and unprofessional and are of a very poor quality, one in particular was especially rude. Just because you are stood outside a nightclub doesn't mean you can swear and act like that towards paying customers. It's no different to working in a hotel or restaurant. Very disappointed, won't be returning unless new staff. (Not aimed at those behind the bar)

I've just experienced the most dangerous clubnight of my life. The event was grossly oversold, and I genuinely thought there was going to be a serious injury - or fatality. Aggressive floor staff did very little to handle the situation, and the crowd (of mostly students) felt equally as dangerous. Noone gets searched on the way in, so there's glass, bottles and drugs all over the toilets and club. I left because the event felt far too risky to stay, and I had no idea what aggressive people had on their body. This unsafe, grossly oversold, money-making event felt like an illegal rave, and not a good one. Waste of time and money, do not risk it.

Wouldn’t recommend for a concert. Tried to see Maribou last night and it was just terrible. They must have sold more tickets than the club’s capacity. Found myself squeezed in a crowd for a moment and it was just unbearable and unsafe. Left shortly after. Waste of money unfortunately.

WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. Went to celebrate my birthday weekend by watching the Maribou State Concert and it was so unbearably packed, I stayed for 15 minutes tops. Online it said the venue could fit 200 people but they sold 500 tickets for the event. The bouncer was trying to clear the stairs by cramming people even though there really wasn’t any more space. He was shouting and threatening to kick us out. In the 15 mins I was there, I was pushed, shouted at and got spilled drinks on. Ventilation was bad and it smelled like a thick vapor of sweat, booze and dust. Also saw a team of medics outside, seemed like someone got injured. Overall I felt unsafe and ripped off. I definitely should have listened to the reviews online.

always love my nights out to cab vol, drinks are good value and the staff are lovely. i often get served by a lovely young girl by the name of emily who’s customer service is outstanding. would highly recommend to anyone looking for a night out in edinburgh.

Came in with a few of my friends on Wednesday and it didn’t disappoint. Sick atmosphere and music, lovely staff and great vibes. Will defo be coming back!!!

I’ve never been so ripped off in my life. £15 Entry for one of the worst sets I’ve ever witnessed. Not sure if the in the DJ was drunk or just inexperienced it was embarrassing couldn’t mix two tracks together if his life depended on it. On top of that it was almost impossible to get a drink.

Lovely staff. One of the bartenders was telling me about his budding photography career. Quite the handsome guy too ;)

Been attending open decks sessions for a while and would highly recommend to any DJ starting out. Dan is super helpful and has a lot of patience for showing people how to use the CDJ’s if they’re a bit unsure. Great atmosphere as all egos are left at the door!

Always such a good night out and maybe one of my new favourite places to go in Edinburgh! Personal preference I wish they did a few drum & bass nights on weekends rather than on a weekday as I would definitely go but it’s a great venue and always loads of fun!

Music was good but men to women ratio was really bad.

One of the female bouncers was so incredibly rude that it ruined my evening. I showed her my stamp and she didn’t see it properly even though she saw me buy a ticket and started giving me verbal abuse, claiming I had attitude and as I was walking down the stairs my friend overheard her saying “I will arrest you”. Was honestly just embarrassing being shouted at by a bouncer for nothing, just a classic case of uniform syndrome and trying to make herself feel like she has power over a young customer who paid £20 to get in. Will not be back due to her behaviour which is a shame because the venue’s not bad and the Dj’s were great.

Expensive and dead club. Don't bother wasting your time or money going to this place.

Alcool is poor quality and barman are never able to understand what you want. For any misunderstanding they call security. Good atmosphere but too stupid staff

Verbally attacked by bouncer for no apparent reason when asking to go back into the club to retrieve jacket. Discriminating response from bouncer towards disabled friend when simply tripping coming down the stairs, accusing him of being inebriated when sober afyer trying to explain. Upsetting friend and myself making us leave the premises for no apparent reason and having a confrontational argument once the issue was raised. Other bounce tried to calm the situation with no positive resolution. Semi bald middle aged bouncer seemed to be power hungry with no reasoning. After being to Cab Vol over 150 times I won't be back.

Club on a Saturday was great! Many places to go and have a dance or a private chat. Went to the cafe side on a Friday and my partner got asked to leave as he was ‘sleeping’. We were a large group of girls and guys and though odd to ask a member to leave who was causing no trouble. When questioned the bouncers poured our drinks away and were very patronising to me (a woman) and didn’t let me get my coat. Very odd behaviour, obviously power hungry. Won’t be recommending due to this experience ( writing this after being thrown out to further prove that we are not ‘too drunk’).

Best club in Edinburgh, bouncers are proper sound unless you’re a door. Free coins all night long.

Great club, with two downsides. The sound system is sub-par (You can have great hardware but in a reflective room with brick walls and a non-symetrical design the sound isnt going to be stellar) , its adequate. The drink prices FLUCTUATE based on how busy the venue is - sold out venue and you'll be paying £2 more for every drink compared to normal prices at less-busy events!! How Awful!! Overall i'd recommend the place as it has many people who regularly go (show up at the door) and great DJ's from fly club often play here. Also has decent ventillation.

It seemed like they were still recovering from the Covid shutdown. Tapa not working, bartender seemed unfamiliar with the beers they offers and the signature drinks as well as the ingredients to make the drinks

absolutely horrendous bouncer staff. was physically shoved out of the venue, screamed at, and my friend’s hand was aggressively grabbed to scratch off the venue stamp with a sharpie. it’s a shame because the bar staff is great.

Definitely the best place to go to in Edinburgh. The music is lit, the cocktails are good and the staff and bouncers are very friendly (Paul you made my night!). I highly recommend this place.

Went here duting the fringe to see comedy, all the beers were out by 8PM! Disorgansied, was disspointed, otherwise we probablly would have stayed.

Come here every year to watch Joke Thieves during the Fringe Festival, great venue but always seems to have ran out of drinks by the 20:30 performance. No white wine and only 2 draught taps out of about 10 available, can’t understand how a bar can run out of drinks. You’re losing a fortune in sales. Joke Thieves, outstanding as usual 👏🏻

Beware beer and a slice deal for £7. It was a tiny slice with one bit of pepperoni on. Complained but got told that was it.

I can understand you have to pay for the entry, but it's so pity that after pee there is a guy outside asking to pay, like a tramp. No extra services, just stealing money for free.

Nice place (the ground floor) and the day I visited it had really cool electronic music. I will definitely visit it again. Its also free so you pay what you drink. I don't know about the basement, because I had free entrance, tried to enter at 23:30, a lady was there working, but some friends came and I had to wait for a while and then at 00:04 I was refused the free entrance, because the same lady at the entrance told me that I was allowed to use it till 00:00 (!)...

Nice drinks and awesome staff. Biggest issue was the wait time to get drinks. Also I thought the music was a bit too loud, bit that might be my old age showing 😂

Buen lugar pero música 100% electrónica

This place is divided in two. The top room is free and is nice for dance and shorts conversations. The music here in little bad. The down room is the opposite, difficult to see and speak but great ambient and awesome music. The pass cost about 6£. Really is a nice disco, but close 3:00 am, like most place in this town.

Very nice pub. However, the barlady who prepared my cocktails was really slow and didn't care about me waiting standing for the 2 cocktails. She easily got distracted by everything. It took 10 mins to have them and I was the only one at the counter

Bad DJ’s. Would not recommend if you have taste in good music and quality DJ’s. Cheap drinks but cash only. Not worth the 10£ cover.

Really cool multi-floor venue, good dance floor, and friendly staff. I went on NYE for Hogmanay and had a great time. This is a good club, if that night is anything to judge by. Highly recommend.

Went here to watch some Fringe shows in August and was pleasantly surprised. I think a lot of the reviews don't give this place the credit it deserves. It's an interesting space and the staff are friendly! Give them a break they are so busy!!!

This was an interesting bar halfway down Blair St, targeted at students presumably with cheap drinks and average service. The best part about it was that they had tables which were transparent with arcade machines underneath where one can play 2-player games with each other! That alone is worth going back for.

Went to few comedy gigs here, first time no pumps working so had to have expensive bottles, ok here but...

Popped in for a mid afternoon pint between fringe shows. Bar staff weren't the chattiest or happiest, either with myself of the other customers I witnessed them serve. Decent decor with some cool touches. I know it's tough to be on your A game all the time but a smile and a bit of chit chat goes a long way.

Great music under the is bridge. Hip and industrial like. In the basement it's a bit claustrophobic and it smells bad

drinks are ok. not the best selection! and towards the end of the night, the speakers were pumped up to the point of distortion. with no limiters on the Hi Frequencies.

Music was way too loud on a Sunday at 4pm. Impossible to have a chat with your group or even enjoy yourself. It was a great selection of music, just painfully loud. Drinks weren't special either.

Loved the retro style arcade games integrated into the table.
