Was looking forward to stopping there after seeing it in the Indy coffee guide. Read that it was dog friendly so took our small dog with us. On arrival was informed that dogs are not allowed in the cafe so you can either sit outside or they had a ‘table for dogs’ as it was raining we were sat in what was the foyer of the community centre. Literally a table separate to the rest of the cafe behind a door in the entrance way. (See pic) Coffee was fine and cake was nice. Staff were pleasant. But please do not advertise as dog friendly as unless it’s warm and sunny it’s far from it.

I had a very tasty and enjoyable special of chicken tagine. I would have preferred a bigger selection of sides to go with it. There was a recommended choice of pitta bread or, from the main menu, chips or bread. I thought the chicken was good value and would definitely choose it again, if it was available.

Third time visiting here in the last few months each time has been worse than our last visit this will now be our final attempt to end our walk with a nice drink and a bit of lunch. No food today we’ve no staff ! Has been one of our prior experiences along with you cannot sit there? Sunday 11th June - Staff still unhelpful not interested in providing good service or their customers Family of 11 with four dogs Told you cannot sit on the tables in the grassed area You cannot sit on the decking as it’s slippy and being repaired So approval to sit at one table for six ? Told to make sure we clear our own table when we had finished Extortionate prices £4 for a small coffee £4 for small warm chocolate and £3.25 for small organic fizzy pop Some of us had already paid for drinks as we didn't realise there was a problem with the seating arrangements and weren’t told until we asked if it was table service Four of us refused to order as there was nowhere to sit Took our drinks and left

It seems this place is being run for the pleasure of a few people only. Tables on either side of us had people using the cafe as a personal office. One man had his feet up on the chair the whole time we were there, another kept answering his phone, droning on, non stop. I thought Caban hired out office space? not give it out for the price of one cup of coffee. Public money has gone into building and establishing this place, supposedly for the community - and that means Welsh speakers as well as those who can't be bothered to learn. As for food, don't bother because they don't. Most often than not, the meagre offerings up on the blackboard run out quickly, so it's cake or more cake for lunch. This place used to be good but that was a very long time ago now.

This is an overrated place where one person takes over a table for 4 so you are stuck waiting for someone to finish their coffee so the table can be used. The food is of poor quality probably because there is no chef. The staff are unfriendly especially the short boy behind the counter. There are better places to eat around the area.

Been here a few times now, usually in the morning after working on yr Wyddfa overnight. The breakfast and coffee is half decent, but it’s also handy as you drive out of llanberis. I’ve always felt like the service was not the friendliest or most welcoming, but it’s never bothered me too much as I’m usually tired and hungry when I’ve been here before. Stopped here with 4 friends today mid-walk, and had good coffee and cake. My friend (it was his first visit) actually commented that it doesn’t feel very welcoming, which tallies with my previous thoughts about the place. Anyway, one of our group decided to pay the bill for all of us when he popped to the toilet, and as we were walking out to go and pay he told us he’d already paid for us all. At the back of us was the miserable waitress, who was tailing us and not-so-quietly telling and signalling to the girls at the till that we haven’t paid, when in fact we’d already paid. She could have just politely asked us if we’d paid, as opposed to assuming we were walking out without paying and robbing them. She shut up once the girl at the till told her we’d paid. No apology of course. Maybe it’s because non of us were speaking welsh, I don’t know (all 5 of us are actually Welsh). Overall, there’s a couple of better, and much more friendly cafes in llanberis itself, so I’d recommend them as opposed to going here.

Been waiting for this meal all week - a lovely end to a great week in North Wales. Lovely fresh tasty food, lovely staff, lovely setting. Sit in the garden and watch the birds and squirrels, or inside and enjoy the atmosphere. I had a veggie special with 3 salads, lots of amazing flavours, pea shoots, beetroot, goats cheese, lime, ginger, all strong but well balanced and I could taste everything. Decaf tea as well. All staff are pleasant and attentive. Yes, it is card only, but as they are not near a bank, why not? Small menu, so they can do what they do very well - would you rather a choice of 100 frozen, bought in items? It is not cheap, but still good value for what you get. Can't wait to return, again, and again. Diolch Caban

Since my glowing review in 2017, the quality of the food here has deteriorated a great deal. What a shame. The location is, as always, very pretty, but the menu has been drastically cut down. They used to have baked potatoes, sandwiches, soups, salads and a variety of bigger meals. Now, they have four different types of chips, and only three proper meals. The main meals are on their daily changing menu, so you have to check the website on the morning of your visit to see what’s on it (unless you only want a portion of chips, which is on their regular menu). Since their food has always been good, it didn’t occur to me to check the daily menu before visiting - I assumed it would include a variety of meals and that there would be something to suit everyone. Unfortunately, this was not the case. There was a kale risotto, a lamb hotpot, and something else, I don’t remember what. The hotpot had a layer of very greasy potatoes on top, a thin layer of minced lamb at the bottom (also rather greasy) and three or four chunks of vegetables. I make better meals at home, and I’m no chef. The staff were, as always, nice and friendly, and they have clearly made efforts to be Covid-safe. But the quality of the food was so poor, and the range of dishes so limited that I’m afraid to say I can no longer recommend Caban for lunch. Their cakes still look good, and they have a decent list of drinks, so I think I would go back for cake and coffee and see what that’s like now, but I would avoid eating any meals there. It’s such a shame, since the views are lovely and it used to be a great place for lunch, where you were guaranteed to have a good meal and plenty of options. Not any more, alas.

I am a local resident of 10 years in the village. You can expect to pay double as much one might expect elsewhere. The food has gone downhill and isn't much better than supermarket cafes. It is still convenient if you cannot get to Llanberis. The worst dish I was every served actually came from here, when they tried to cook citric fruit and meat in aluminium pans, about 8 years ago. Table service is poor. Food and drinks arrive on the wrong side, but staff do ask if you would like anything. Cutlery is nasty. There is language barrier. During Covid, the place was packed. They forced us to order once when we sat in the communal garden, so we happily left. Perhaps they now own the garden? not sure?Bicycle shed is dangerous. Loose dogs are a concern for children. Staff look disgusted sometimes - I am not sure why - perhaps they are bored. Worst bit is the heavy metal chairs which makes it difficult to get up. Seating is crammed. Tables are too small, heavy and round. Birds are fed outside the windows, which is off-putting, made me feel ill. It can be very noisy when locals shout across the tables at one-another in local lingo. Otherwise, mildly satisfactory. Just not worth a punt anymore.

I used to be a regular prior to lockdown and always ate lunch. I was put off for a while after I found a stone in my food but I went back prior to lockdown. I've been three times since lockdown was lifted and as this was the third occasion when i found the choice so disappointing thought I would write a review. I went with my friend and mum and we are all of 'a certain age'. The menu has gone so obscure. There used to be some plain choices (eg baked potatoes) and now it's all very over complicated veggie style. Or a very odd sounding overpriced breakfast bap...I noticed another group left without eating and the people near us were just picking at their lunch. Fair enough if this is the direction Y Caban has decided to take but I wanted to say a few more ordinary choices like before would have been so welcome. It's a shame in my opinion. Well I will still call for coffee but doubt that i will turn up for lunch again.

Loved it! We had the meal and drink lunch offer for £15 (£7.50 with eat out to help out). I had the vegan chilli which was DELICIOUS and my husband had the chorizo tortilla which he said was tasty but only had one bit of Chorizo in it. Drinks were nice. Great setting. Would go back again if in the area.

Was visiting Snowdonia for day and found this on the northern periphery towards Bangor. Found by chance and what a great find it was. There are a lot of places severing typical pub grub in the vicinity so this made a pleasant change. The menu is relatively short, but all the options I could see were freshly made, decent sizes and tempting! I had the chorizo, homegrown kale and feta filo pie which came with a generous portion of bread, salad and a drink for £15. If I’d had room I would have opted for one of there cakes too! We ate in the large, pleasant garden out the back. Service was great especially considering how busy it was due to ‘Eat Out to Help Out.’

Didnt score low as dont want to damage your reputation as you have a fantastic thing going on I just wanted to leave my feedback. I've been a regular visitor for a few years now and this was my first post virus visit. Unfortunately I've left disappointed for the first time ever. In my opinion the pricing seems to be off. £10 for a bacon roll and a drink seems very steep to say the least. £15 for lunch and a drink even steeper. I know you guys would have lost out on a lot of custom this year and being a business owner myself so have I. One thing I've certainly not done however is pass the cost of the lost profits onto my customers. Thats poor in my opinion. Also guys, being cashless is nothing to be proud of. If you're willing to dish receipts out you should be accepting the currency of the land.

Great food. But disappointed with the general attitude towards the Welsh Language. considering it is in the middle of a Welsh language community. Man behind the counter was very arrogant and extremely rude when I asked a question in Welsh where he replied "don't speak Welsh". Make an effort or be polite about not speaking the language. Monolingual menu's as well. Used to be a warm bilingual cafe, now not so much.

We have been to this place many times over the years. We've also had great food there. Last Sunday was no exception. My wife and I are both vegetarian. There always plenty of choice. They always have different dishes on the specials board each time we go. The food tastes fresh and wholesome. The service is very friendly and prompt. They also serve excellent coffee and homemade cakes. If you are in the area check it out.

Have had some excellent meals here recently. They have all the cafe staples (sandwiches, baked potatoes etc) but they also offer more unusual choices such as chicken shawarma. Their specials can be amazing! Can highly recommend Caban.

Another great lunch at The Caban. Delicious home-made soups, tasty and chunky ham sandwiches and veggie chilli. Finished off with a freshly baked cake! Excellent service too. What’s not to like? This place feels like a best kept secret of North Wales.

Found by a google search this cafe is indeed a hidden gem patronised mainly by the local community, We dined there on 2 occasions, the latter for Sunday lunch that whilst being expensive £11.50 it was delicious and plentiful. There is a varied specials board and always a selection of delicious home baked cakes. Their soft drinks seem expensive, my wife had a small bottle of coke costing £2.05. Best stick to the free tap water.

Visited a week ago after a nice walk with a friend. Had a lovely lunch and a really good latte. We decided to go back yesterday, what a disappointment!!!!. On the specials board it said Chicken rice noodles curry soup and popadom £5.50 so we both went for that and a latte with Almond milk. The soup came and it smelt delicious. And the taste was lovely not to spicy but we were so disappointed, it was full of vegetables and not a single pieace of chicken in it. Should have read vegetable and noodle soup on the board. When we told the staff she said oh yes someone else said the same. It's because it was at the end of the pot!!! The bill came and they charged us £5.55 each for the soup not the £5.50 written on the specials board and they charged us 30p extra each for the oat milk (even though we had asked for Almond milk), that was not stated on the menu or told to us on ordering, So all in all the second visit was disappointing. Won't be visiting again any time soon.

Went to Caban for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the varied and creative menu satisfying whichever diet you choose to follow. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent, full of flavour and well constructed. The coffee was superb. I am a self confessed coffee snob and have high standards so was very satisfied with the richness of the bean and the skills of the barista. Will Definitely go back whenever I can.

Love my visits to Caban. I live locally and have always been pleased with the food on offer and the good service provided by the friendly staff. The surroundings are beautiful and very relaxing. Well worth a visit and dogs allowed in the outside seating area. Such a good idea to have a vibrant community project frequented by many local people which is a reliable advertisement! Keep up the good work!

Have wanted to visit for a long time. Was impressed by the fantastic building and stunning location. Staff were friendly and efficient. Menu was varied and well priced. The burger meal was great, our kids loved the wholesome pasta and quality sausage meal. My husband and I had the jerk bean curry with two and three sides respectively. The side of daal would have been enough it was so big, but we bravely cleared our plates. What a gorgeous, healthy tasty meal! We will definitely return as we were too full up for cakes and they looked delicious. Nice touch of providing a chalk board and games too.
