Waited far to long for a simple sandwich which I asked for plain ham no dressing. Which I got, but they put dressing on salad which I assumed when I said no dressing it meant no dressing at all. I did not enjoy and will not be going back. Not enough staff and writing orders on post it notes which is not professional

We dined here yesterday 7/10/24, and had 2 classic breakfasts, wow it was gorgeous, from the sausage to the scrambled egg just a delight. Food was piping hot and coffee also. This style model needs to be rolled out across other places because there is a big market for historical generation cafes just like this. It was packed and this is proof they have got the right recipe so to speak. The cafe is full of antiques of yester year and a joy to take you back to a more calmer world before Internet arrived.

Waitresses we're pleasant and polite, however the service was a shambles. We ordered a teacake a muffin and a sandwhich, waited over 1 hour, when they told us they had lost our order. My mum almost had a diabetic shock episode. The manager didn't even bother to come to us and apologise, only gave a dirty look from the kitchen, after we were told by a waitress the manager would come to us. What a disgrace, and a shame because the oldie worldie style was comfortable. I wish I could give a review on the food but we never received anything. VERY BAD FIRST IMPRESSION. We will not be going back.

The food here is always excellent, regardless of whether you choose from the regular menu or the lunch special board, and the staff are equally good, polite, cheerful, and helpful. As an addition, the decor always grabs people's attention, with so much vintage bric-a-brac to look at.

We visited for the first time for a friends 50th birthday. Staff were amazing and welcoming. The Afternoon tea was amazing we had the 70s one so much we had to bring some home. Also vegetarian and allergy accommodated for. Unfortunately we were chatting too much to get photos. Well worth the money you pay. A whole cake stand with various sandwiches, quiche ( I loved) cakes , Scones with Jam and Cream chocolates.... all with a huge fresh leaf teapot each. Highly recommend. I know we will visit again.

Our first visit to Bygones where we have left thoroughly disappointed. Went for a Birthday treat 70's Afternoon Tea. Did not taste fresh, cakes were loaded in sugar and buttercream which was hard and lumpy. Hand finished chocolates were shortbread rounds drizzled in chocolate. Most of mine were left, covered in a serviette. Not good value for £20 and not a nice Birthday experience. Would not recommend this at all.

The staff are lovely, food a tad expensive, we had breakfast, were not allowed a 4 seater table " as they are needed" only two of us but I hate being cramped on small tables, in middle of walkway, within touching distance of another two seater table........ Yet none of those tables were used in the time we were there🙄 The bacon was chewy inedible for the most part, not good when you've paid so much for it.......I've eaten afternoon tea there pre COVID, it was nice..... We held our wedding reception here. We are regular visitors to Bygones and we knew everything would be perfect on the day. Vilma, Steve and the team went out of their way to make our day so special. They put together an amazing three course menu for us, with plenty of choice and catered for special dietary requirements. They also ordered a range of beverages based on our requirements which was fantastic. The meal we had was absolutely outstanding and perfectly presented. All of our guests commented on the quality and presentation of their meals and we're super impressed with the quirky interior. We have previously enjoyed many lunches and teas/coffees in this great unique tea room, but this time we came for an evening meal (they run these maybe once a month, best to check and you need to pre-book). We can confirm that the service & food were as good as always but with a relaxed restaurant feel. There was a 3 course menu with a fair choice at each stage. (There's always a vegetarian option & I expect vegan would be available by request). There were couples and small groups but I'm sure larger groups could also be accommodated with good notice. As during the day, there's a wine list & other alcoholic & soft drinks available. You can choose what time you'd like to dine and there's no rush to vacate your table. Excellent value at £25.95 a head for 3 courses, but it's the friendly service, great food and special ambience that bring us back regularly.

Not the cheapest place around for a breakfast, but nice all the same. The atmosphere is great though, seeing all the retro stuff everywhere - it's well cool. So if you are in Newcastle and fancy a bite to eat, with different surroundings, then it's worth trying out. Along with your normal breakfast, they serve a slimming world breakfast (which is basically an omelette), but this comes at a cost.. But if you have a loved one that likes to diet every now and again, then it's a good move and worth it to keep them happy, while you tuck into your fry up.

Absolutely fantastic place. A traditional and pure British authentic tea café place. It's located in the corner and heart of the town in Newcastle Under Lyme town centre. I came from Birmingham this morning for a business trip. Arrived too early and decided to have a coffee. While walking around to see if Costa or Starbucks but suddenly saw this place. Opened the door and early in the morning was packed with people from all ages. Looked great inside and a lady worker politely welcomed me and showed table. I had an Americano which tasted great. The atmosphere was incredibly beautiful. Gives you the feelings of 50's to late 70's with decorations through out. Prices also very reasonable and affordable. Definitely recommend this place and every time I visit this city I would visit and enjoy café food etc here.

We came here for a mothers day treat and unfortunately left very disappointed. As there was 7 of us we were asked to pre-order our afternoon tea. Once we were seated we waited 45 mins, just for our drinks (cafe was only half full). We then waited another 20 minutes for our food to arrive (it wouldn’t be so bad if it was cooked food, but it was sandwiches and cakes). They got part of the order wrong and we were never asked once if things were okay or if we wanted any more drinks etc (had to ask more than once for everything). It’s such a shame as it decor is very quaint and impressive and had heard good reviews from friends who have been before. Really not a complainer, in fact this is my first ever review, but it ruined what was supposed to be a lovely occasion for our family.

We are regulars at this cafe, and returned today for lunch. On trying to get through the door today we were confronted by a stroppy and rude female member of staff with very short dyed blonde hair that made it clear in no uncertain terms, and in an aggressive and confrontational manner that if we did not have a reservation we were NOT coming in! Charm score -8, communication skills -10, and customer service skills -14. Is this the standard of new employees? Really?! Don't think we have ever been greeted like this in any business. She may be suitable for employment in an abattoir, but customer service? Change of career needed.

We decided to try this little cafe for breakfast. Thankfully they substituted items that weren't gluten free rather than just serve a half empty plate as some places do. The memorabilia is a real treat causing many customers to reminisce. Customers were a real mix of young and older people. The young woman serving was pleasant and helpful. We queried our bill as they didn't seem to have charged us enough. She pointed out that our breakfast included drinks with just a £1 extra cost as I had an American. I tried a Sunday lunch. It was really quite nice, although a too much broccoli. Beef, potatoes, carrot and parsnip plus cauliflower cheese were tasty. I have tried weekday menus, such as sausage and mash, and they are not as tasty as the Sunday lunch I experienced. I once had trifle which tasted like rhubarb, which I wasn't keen on. The sausage seemed cheap. The restaurant is a good size, and accessible for disabled people and equipment such as wheelchairs. It is also clean and attractive. However, they do close early for food. Not a tea time venue.
