Highly recommend food is fantastic and so is the service staff go above and beyond

Usually I love the Buttercup but yesterday there were 4 dogs in the front area of the café one persistently barking. I love dogs but this is too much. May I suggest you restrict to one at a time as they set one another off.

Just what we needed. Yummy cake to share (we have the orange cake) and coffee that hit the spot. Definitely recommend to come here.

It was a peaceful escape, and I couldn’t have felt more comfortable sitting down to enjoy my food. It's the kind of place that feels like a hidden gem, a real local treasure. Buttercup nunca falla y la calidad nunca baja. Fuimos hoy, y por suerte había reservado una mesa, ya que el lugar estaba ardiendo, un lunes. Hermosa sopa de guisante, menta y espárragos - qué sabrosa combinación, seguido de una gran porción de calabacín y pastel de lima que era delicioso. A pesar de la multitud de capacidad el servicio fue maravilloso, así que gracias a todos.

Popped into the cafe for a late lunch / snack after a long walk while staying in Doune for the weekend. It was busy, but think we timed it right as we were seated straight away. There's a good menu but we opted for sandwiches and coffee. These were huge, nice light bread but lots of filling accompanied by an americano and a fancier coffee with cream and chocolate. Enjoyed our lunch and would have liked a cake but we were too full, maybe next time we visit Doune.

Great burger and chips! Soup was good too. Has more tables in a room in the back, so don't worry if it looks busy. Dog friendly too.

On our visit to Doune, we stopped before seeing the castle. The truth is that there are not many options but it was the best one. The food was very good value for money and the girl who served us was super attentive. I recommend it

We went for lunch and we asked for a table at the booth. However we were threatened by one of the lady. She said if the table is required we need to move in the middle of our meal. Poor customer service and mediocre food. Won't be returning.

Reservamos el Buttercup Café para 7 personas y 2 perros. Habíamos reservado antes de nuestra visita y la señora con la que hablé fue muy servicial y nos ofreció la habitación en la parte de atrás para dar a nuestro grupo más espacio. El almuerzo era excelente - muy sabroso y el servicio era muy bueno. Sin duda recomendaría el sándwich de carne, todo era muy razonable precio también. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente y sin duda volveremos!

Encontré este encantador café en línea antes de nuestro viaje. El menú era deli - estilo e imaginativo. Cantidades generosas de ingredientes para nuestras elecciones. Atendido puntualmente por servidores acogedores y atentos. Pasteles caseros muy imaginativos también. La olla de té dio 2 tazas grandes. Decoración muy bonita, pero encontramos los filamentos sin sombra de la lámpara sobre nuestras cabezas en las cabinas bastante duro en el ojo. Buenos precios también. La única desventaja era el blanco plano que no era tal en absoluto. Era café marrón con espuma de leche en la parte superior, tenía que pedir leche caliente para añadir para que fuera potable. La sopa de tomate y pimiento rojo asado era agradable, pero más bien tarta. Pero en general, un gran hallazgo y sin duda volveremos.

Precioso café local por la carretera desde donde nos alojamos. Solo tenía café y pastel, pero ambos absolutamente preciosos. Sin duda comeremos allí cuando volvamos.

Great local cafe. Ate here twice and it was excellent both times. Good espresso coffee and terrific local hospitality.

Always wonderful freshly prepared home cooking. Beautifully presented sandwiches and cakes and the quiche is truly amazing. If you are allergic to dogs as we are, bring antihistamine as it's a cramped venue and wet dogs are common at adjacent tables. That's the only downside.

Visité por primera vez y tuvimos el almuerzo de Navidad. Muy buenas elecciones y una gran relación calidad-precio en comparación con otros lugares. Las porciones grandes y toda la comida casera era delicioso. ¡Me alegro de haber dejado espacio para el postre de pastel de chocolate ya que sabía increíble! No vivo en el lugar, pero sin duda voy a salir a mi manera para visitar aquí de nuevo en el futuro 😃

Very busy ,popular cafe. Good selection of food. Staff welcoming and friendly. Order taken quickly and we didn't have too long to wait for our freshly made meals. All 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. We have booked our Xmas lunch too because we loved the whole experience and delicious food served today.

Great place for a warm cup of soup and a quick bite after a cold day touring the castle. You can leave the car parked at the castle and take the short walk to town center.

Excellent cakes, average sandwich Stopped off here for some quick refreshments... very pleasantly surprised by the cakes which were very tasty. Pecan caramel slice 9/10, rice crispy chocolate caramel thing 9/10. Sandwich however was a little disappointing. Seems like supermarket bread, cheese wasn't melted, pesto likely from a jar too - not a great deal of flavour 6/10. Overall, a nice café, staff were lovely and we came out feeling refreshed, so job done.

We came with my partner for breakfast. We were very well received, both the sweet and the savory dishes were delicious!

Nice place with decent food. Prices maybe a bit high and decor etc a bit tired. Outside area great on a nice day for cyclists. Chic shop units out back too selling home decor and clothes.

Lovely place to eat ! They have a big menu and many cakes and sweets. Everything was delicious, the shortbread is one of the best that I ever had.

Really lovely cafe, they accommodated our group of 8 easily ( book ahead!) and there was a large choice of menu with something for everyone and a good vegetarian selection. I had ordered a celebration cake to take away with us which was absolutely delicious. Proper home made cakes. Excellent home made burgers and we also loved the soup and soda bread. Friendly and helpful staff. We were staying in the village but if you're visiting the castle you should definitely come here.

Went on a sunny Saturday lunch time. Sat in the lane and service was friendly, attentive and prompt and the food was lovely. They have a fairly captive tourist audience but were charging fairly which is.welcome and admirable.

We stopped in for breakfast today on our way to Fort William. Menu options, staff friendliness, cleanliness, quality of food (which was served piping hot) and value for money was excellent. Definitely well worth a visit, thank you.

A very nice cafe in the picturesque Dune

Stopped off here for breakfast while in the area on holiday for the weekend. I'm so glad we did as the service was excellent with such friendly and attentive staff and the breakfasts, cakes and coffees we had were delicious. Best full Scottish breakfast I've had for a long time. It was such a nice experience on a Saturday morning and we'll definitely come back if in the area again.

Best coffee and square sausage roll I have had in ages, oh we also had a tattie scone which was excellent too. The roll was so fresh and the taste of the square sausage had me drooling for more, and finished off with melt in the mouth empire biscuit that was home made.The staff are very courteous and helpful, it was a pleasure to eat there, dont drive through Doune without stopping at this place.

Would like to review the food from this cafe but never got that far . After a lovely afternoon in Doune we were recommended this cafe .Walked in and politely waited by the' please wait here to be seated' sign . We were completely ignored by all members of staff . The cafe wasn't too busy so plenty of seats. Not a local so not sure if we should have just sat down, no one offered us a welcome . We turned and left and received a lovely welcome at a nearby establishment.

Dreadful young staff . Plenty of them but no idea what was going on . Got our order wrong twice . What a shame as we have been before and has been good . Just shows if you employ the wrong staff the impact it has

we were at Doune Castle and found the cafe thanks to Google. Very comfortable and you could have sat outside. We were asked about allergies. Then the menu came. Super tasty, we had panini and Cesar salad and the cheese fries are recommended. Young staff and very friendly.

Absolutely great. Menu was classy and quite reasonably priced. Kids enjoyed their food. Visit the castle then walk here, you won't be disappointed

Stopped in for a late breakfast while traveling through Scotland on holiday. I'm so glad we found this perfect place to eat. Service was friendly and prompt. Cappuccinos were delicious and made perfectly. The food was spot on! I had the smoked salmon Benedict, perfect smoked salmon, and poached eggs! The husband had a small English breakfast, which was made well. Definitely recommend.

Very busy at lunch time. Food good, but quite expensive for a small cafe. The place could do with a major revamp, it's looking a bit tired. Sandwiches were well filled and tasty. Staff nice but a bit standoffish and run off their feet.

A bit apprehensive to begin with (nervous and unknowledgeable young staff) but I have to say the food was superb. Really well priced and you can see why it's so busy. Will be sure to make a detour to visit again soon.

A brilliant surprise in Doune. Passed many times and was not impressed with the frontage. Visited today and was most impressed. Delicious soups and a very impressive menu including a mezze bowl and a mushroom burger, so vegetarians well catered for. Lovely scones, todays special raspberry and chocolate, delicious

Didn’t actually stop in but my partner ordered me a vegan lemon cake homemade by them for my birthday and it was easily the tastiest cake I’ve ever had period, never mind since adopting the diet! Would highly recommend, great vegan options all round.

We had our first visit here today after reading a recommendation and we certainly weren’t disappointed! Lovely cafe, nice atmosphere and lovely staff. My husband had the full breakfast and I had the mini one , which isn’t that mini by the way! 😊. Both were delicious accompanied by tea and a delicious flat white( I’m fussy about my coffee!). Altogether a lovely experience and hope to go back when in that area again. Thank you 😊

It was quite busy but we got amazing personalised service. Went with our baby daughter and was immediately shown to a nice quiet space with nearby bathroom and changing table and an available high chair. The food was excellent. I ordered a chicken burger and my wife had a soup. Very tasty and great value for money. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly which is rare in current times. We will be coming back and would highly recommend to others.

First visit, it was busy and it would be sensible to book ahead especially at weekends. Food and service was good we had soup followed by steak sandwich and Mexican blt the days special. Both were very filling. Would be happy to go back.

From the moment we arrived (before their posted opening times), the staff were so accommodating. They secured our bikes in the rear outside area. We sat and ordered coffees and poached egg on toast with bacon on the side. Let me tell you that this was quite possibly the best poached egg on toast I’ve ever had, the eggs perfectly poached and the bacon was deliciously salty. The vanilla latte was hot and sweet. The entire experience was fantastic. Any cyclists, day trippers, walkers or sightseers would be advised to visit this little gem. I will be certainly be coming back.

Food was alright. I had the Scandinavian club sandwich which was a bit disappointing and small. Wife had the soup of day which she says was really nice, not not much bread with it though. My 2 year old son had the kids fish goujons and chips, which was enormous. I feel like they need a reality check in their portion sizes. Drinks were nice. Coffee here is good quality. Service was nice. Young staff, but none the less was very professional and friendly. Atmosphere was ok. Needs a little more lively music to pick up the mood in the place. It's quite a small place so don't visit with a push chair or pram.

The food at the Buttercup is lovely and great value for money, I went with three others, all having different dishes, and we all loved our mains and especially our cakes! Also, we couldn’t fault the service of the staff, they were even courteous enough to inform us there may be increase waits for food due to a larger party being in, amazing service overall.

Lovely cafe, visited on Sunday afternoon for lunch. Extremely busy the entire time we were there but the 3 young staff out front managed admirably, kept smiling and did a great job. Food was delicious, I had the tasting plate which included quiche and club sandwich, my friend had the avocado sourdough. Great menu and tasty selection of cakes and tray bakes for after.

We are regular visitors to the Buttercup and thought it time we left a review. The Buttercup is a great pit stop if just passing through or enjoying the walks and history in the area. It’s comfortable inside and the staff are always friendly and helpful. There is outside seating available for good weather days. The menu is varied with some good vegetarian options and they have a specials board which is changed regularly. All the food is made fresh to order and of a very high standard with some really nice dishes on offer. I recommend the Scandi Club or Steak Sandwich. Great selection of home made cakes and bakes. All in all a well run and welcoming establishment. They also take bookings. If you go take the time to explore the Doune Chic independent shops behind the cafe.

Really nice and cozy place in the main street in Doune. The staff was really nice and friendly and we enjoyed an amazing breakfast!!

Great for a coffee or lunch. Have visited several times as it is local. Best to book for lunch if you want to be sure of getting a table. Have booked for Christmas lunch: two courses £18. Very reasonably priced but not licensed. .

Excellent burger and fries. Asked waitress if the burgers were from a local butcher and was advises that they were made in house. Definitely recommend the burger . Partner had steak ciabatta which he said was great.
