We got married here 13 years ago and had fantastic food and service then but for some unknown reason we have never returned-until tonight. It was hubby’s 70th birthday and so as we had an appointment later in Telford we decided to revisit Butlers at the Park House Hotel on a Monday evening in July. Despite previous reviews about slow service, we found the staff extremely attentive and we weren’t kept waiting huge amounts of time for any courses. The food was all extremely nice, well cooked, tasty and very reasonably priced in today’s economic climate. It appears many restaurants now have limited opening times during early week but as a hotel Butlers is still open every evening. The restaurant itself appears to have been refurbished recently and has a contemporary feel to it which is very pleasant and all furniture appears very new. It was lovely to revisit this hotel/restaurant which holds many precious memories and a delight to see that the food and service is still as good as we remember. We definitely won’t wait another 13 years to revisit.

After coming to this restaurant seversl times in the past I was shocked when we were served our Sunday platter x2 Yorkshire puddings small and frozen rubbish Meat half as much as you used to get Frozen roast pots And the veg they bought out for 4 people was enough for 2 No cauliflower cheese which used to be one the best I’ve tried No braised red cabbage We had to ask for sauces which was like they were being rationed Very disappointed in a place that used to be so good and it now costs more than before Customer retention is not on there agenda because surely if you change your chefs it should be for the better not worse Won’t be back unless it improves

The food was very good for both visits and was reasonably priced. The staff were first class. The ambiance is classic and pleasant. Our only negative was the length of the wait for our mains courses, which we might not have been so aware of had we ordered starters. The menu is not extensive, but fine if you are not eating there too often.

We were staying at hotel and decided to have dinner there. Lovely dining room. Staff friendly and we ordered quickly and food arrived after a good wait time. Mushroom pasta I had was really good and a good size portion. Very happy with with our meal. Never felt rushed or made to leave even though we were last people in restaurant. Only problem was we couldn't find any staff to ask for the bill! They all seemed to have vanished!

Came here expecting a great Sunday lunch with my family and we were all extremely disappointed with our meals. The baked mushroom starter consisted of TWO THIRDS of an over cooked field mushroom with some cheese melted on top. Watery and gross. What was wrong with the last third of the mushroom? Was it rotten or did it end up on someone else’s plate? The smoked salmon starter was tiny, served on a small piece of wilted lettuce and didn’t come with the sauce as advertised. The roast dinners were all stone cold. Nut roast and chicken were both pre-cooked and inedible. The chicken in particular was nothing short of disgusting. An over cooked piece of dry, stringy breast which I wouldn’t have given the dog. Stuffing was clearly pre-sliced and reheated but was also somehow cold. The wine was either of terrible quality or watered down. The service was painfully slow and the £70 bill was laughable. Such a shame because the building looks beautiful from the outside. We’ll go elsewhere in the future, very drab and disappointing. I’d advise anyone against eating here.

The website says "Dine in our award winning One AA Rosette Butlers Bar & Restaurant". They don't have an AA Rosette. They say "Elegance: Choose from a carefully selected choice of wines and beverages in oak panelled surroundings ." The restaurant is not oak-panelled; it is painted-over embossed wallpaper, in an Easyjet colour. They say "Fine dining in Shropshire". While this is subjective, it certainly isn't fine dining. The chef admitted that my steak pie was bought-in; the menu offers it with chips; the other main course menu choices are burger and chips (three kinds of burger); fish and chips; three steak options; rack of lamb; chicken; sea bass; and vegetarian options. The table staff were willing but completely inexperienced. To be clear: they admitted to me in an email that they don't have the AA rosette; I left this review for 48 hours in case that was an oversight, to give them time to correct their website. The false claim is still there.

Booked afternoon tea for a group of us - what a disappointment !! The cake had obviously been bought at the local co-op and haphazardly thrown on a plate. The scones were a poorly manufactured excuse for a scone with a very odd texture. A definition of afternoon tea is, a meal composed of sandwiches ,usually cut delicately into 'fingers', The sandwiches were less finger size and more fist size, including crusts. There was a choice of three fillings; egg mayonnaise, plain ham and cheese and pickle - nothing to write home about and a definite beige theme. Nothing like the illustrations on their website. The best bits were the table setting and good supply of tea !! Don't waste your money on this second rate, bland afternoon tea. I've had better at our local garden centre for half the price.

I came on the launch of the new menu today. And I was very happy with food and service. There were a few teething problems such as the starters of halumi fries was too big and I felt full after the starters . But the lamb came and I still finished it. Great food. Superb service. All three staff was fantastic especially Kayleigh, who was patient with my questions in the new menu and also very informative and above all had a great smile. Good job Kayleigh.....!

I would say there are a far better places to enjoy a drink than here. I think the drinks are overpriced and the expertise of the staff, is poor. We viewed on the board the new menu of liquor coffees, but when ordering were told the bartender didn’t know how to make them, so had to settle for an ordinary coffee instead! If we were told once we were told several times that it had been a "long" day when we arrived for dinner. We were kept waiting for over 1/2 hour whilst a table was prepared and had to chase up the staff on several occasions. The TravelZoo offer that we had signed up to suggested that the DBB deal gave us each a dinner worth up to £35 and so it was very disappointing to be given the "bar" menu to choose from. Even if we had selected the most expensive choice for each course we couldn't have got up to £35! The menu itself did offer a number of "bar" type options and my calamari starter wasn't too bad. Beyond that it was all a little disappointing, aggravated by teh fact that it took over 2 1/2 hours from when we had first arrived to when we finally settled the bill. If it had been a bustling lively ambience then it may not have been so bad, but.... The staff were all very friendly but just didn't seem to realise that they needed to address our needs. Perhaps we just hit it on what had been a very sunday afternoon. However, from now on I will be very wary of incusive DBB deals without doing full and proper research about the place we are staying at, and teh standard of food they offer. see separate review for Park House Hotel as I do think that overall it is a good place to stay.

We ate here because we were staying at the Premier Inn at Telford station and we'd had terrible service at the beefeater and I have to say we were all glad that we had. You could choose between the bar menu and the al la Carte menu and were all chose varying things. When the calamari came were were all a bit snobby that we only had three rings each... (however it was the nicest cooked calamari I'd had in a long time and I often eat in Greek / Turkish places in London! ).

Always seen this hotel over the years and only found out that there was a 1 AA rosette restaurant here, I decided to book a table and see what there delights there was producing! Had a quick look on the website to see what their menu was like, obviously the menu will always be different from day to day. The restaurant itself is obviously within the hotel itself. The hotel is a beautiful place on the outside and there was a nice water fountain out at the front, this is where I had a pint before my meal...As I looked at the menu I decided I was going to some pre nibbles 2 starters 1 main and 1 dessert...The pre nibbles was a selection of cured meat feta cheese olives and some bread !! This was absolutely massive for one person I didn't realise at the time it would have been that big ! This was ok...1st starter was Scallop & pork belly + sweet mustard sauce + crispy pancetta!!! Scallop cooked perfectly pork belly nice and succulent, sweet mustard sauce work well with the pork!! Great 1st starter 2nd starter was Smoked haddock fishcake with wilted spinach + poached hen's egg & choron sauce!!!! The fishcake what's absolutely massive which I was shocked how big it was! Poached egg cooked perfection nice runny yolk!! Nice rich Buttery sauce what's not to like about this!Next was the main!! Rack of lamb cutlets + infuse garlic and rosemary mash + baby heritage carrots & red wine sauce!! First I've got to say that the lamb was cooked nice and pink!! But this dish in my eyes a lot better!!! 1. the mash under seasoned with salt and you could not taste any garlic or Rosemary within the mash itself!! 2. There was just way too many carrots for this dish!!Personally I would at least take some of the meat away, some of the carrots away an add more different elements to this dish like different vegetables!! As I was giving the dessert menu too choose what I wanted for dessert.I felt a little disappointed with this desert menu because to me what was on offer I felt like it dessert menu from the pub!! Which this shocked me it felt like there was no imagination on the dessert menu!! So I picked chocolate brownie and honeycomb ice cream!!! it does exactly what it says on the tin, it was just a chocolate brownie and some ice cream....Food started off very good then seem to go average at the end.....

My family and I visited here to celebrate Father's Day and we were not impressed. This was my first visit however my family had been there twice before. There were only 2 tables of 8 being waited on and the waiting staff were running back and forth, instead of allocating a member of staff per table and the manager overseeing the floor. The drinks were agreeable but on being seated at the table, we were being served bread rolls that were still partly frozen. These were soon changed but this was the first of a catalogue of issues. The starters were nice but the sauce on the smoked salmon was just too tangy and didn't suit my taste. The mains ordered were mostly roast dinners and the meat was succulent and tasty however the vegetables - roast potatoes and long beans were hard, undercooked and tasteless. We asked for extra gravy on our Roast Beef and this was promptly brought over in a jug. I did not question the type of gravy that was brought over, I just poured it over my meal. Only to find that it was chicken gravy with white meat residue all through the gravy. I was livid that there was now a mixture of beef and chicken gravy over my meal. I have finally then decided to speak to management about this farce of a celebration meal. My family informed me that their previous visits were nothing in comparison. The manager has kindly offered to address this by taking 2 meals and a round of drinks off the bill. I wish it hadn't come to this...I am more than happy to pay for food my family and I have eaten however this was just a disgrace. The manager was very understanding and apologised profusely for the new chef but that's not the point. I'd rather enjoy my meal without the hassle. We won't be eating there again.

We ordered starters and the waitress returned to say the salmon and prawn was no longer available, the starters were nothing special and the main courses were no better luke warm and frankly boring, the veg was exceptionally sad! Puddings ordered some 20 minutes later waitress returns to say they were waiting for cream delivery and we could either wait or choose something else, we chose something else, chocolate brownie very tough and disappointing. Good location for Telford and raf cosford. Easy walking distance into Shifnal where there are plenty of places to eat and drink. The Butlers bar and restaurant serve great food although when staying a week options are limited . Specials should change everyday in my view. Swimming pool is lovely as a leisure pool but the gym only has two machines and some weights. Good value for money, could do with some updating especially the threadbare carpets, though once this happens prices would no doubt jump. Free wifi was very good and easily coped with my requirements of it e.g online webinar watching Netflix on the iPad and checking mails and Internet surfing all at the same time.

I attended this restaurant on Thursday 7 January 2016 in a party of seven. Four of us ordered beef and when the meals arrived they were served on cold plates and the food which consisted of beef a few carrots, a Yorkshire pudding and what can only be described as fried potato was also cold. We were all expecting side vegetables to accompany the meal but nothing came with the plates of food. Two of us complained about the meals and they were taken away to be replaced about ten minutes later on hot plates but the food was so dry we couldn't eat it.At the end of our visit we were informed that we wouldn't be charged for the meals we complained about. It is my view that on this occasion the restaurant fell far short of a rosette winning establishment in fact it was poor bar food at best.I e-mailed the hotel the following morning for the attention of the appropriate manager to give the hotels view. I got a reply from the manager asking me not to post negative views until he investigated our experience. To date nearly a week later he hasn't got back to me.

The food: very small portions, i ordered the trio of beef and wasn't asked how i wanted the steak cooked, which is pretty basic stuff.3. The puddings were pretty poor, i had the cucumber sorbet which was inedible,4. The prices. This restaurant is situated within the Park House Hotel where a was recently staying on business. My company had booked me in on a Dinner Bed & Breakfast basis so my breakfast and evening meal were taken within Butler's. The bar and restaurant are full of character with oak paneling and flooring but they have added bits of modern with a large flat screen telly in the bar to show the news or football / sport. The restaurant is totally separate with only the other diners for company. I like this aspect as you don't hear the clanging of the glasses or beeping and banging of the til / cash register. As my meals were already paid for, i wasn't sure what the menu would consist of but i was advised that i could have whatever starter, main and desert i wanted. I fancied a steak which was priced a little under £20 but unfortunately they had run out so i settled for the duck pancake and gammon steak. I couldn't fit in a desert. The starter and main course were delicious, really nicely presented and cooked to perfection. The second night i was told that there was a special of Surf & Turf which consisted of half a lobster and fillet steak for £30, surely this wouldn't be included on my meal plan??? It was but i couldn't have a starter, not a problem as i don't have a huge appetite. Again this meal was superb both in terms of presentation and taste. The third night (different member of staff) i was told that the steak was not included in my meal plan so i was a little disappointed with the inconsistencies between staff. The food however was a really good quality and if i had to pay for my own meals i would say that the food was well worth the money.Would i eat here again: Yes without doubt. Would i recommend to friends and family: again, yes.

I called the restaurant on the Tuesday to book a table for two for the Friday evening and I was told there was an availability at 8pm.So we turned up on Friday and noticed some disco lights in the window, thinking it was a separate room from the restaurant we proceeded into the reception. When we walked in, we realised that the party was in the restaurant, slightly confused we told one of the staff that we had a reservation for 8pm, she looked confused and went to ask her superior. A different member of staff then came out and took us into the reception area where she told me that I had called up that morning to cancel my reservation (bearing in mind that I had not called them since the Tuesday when I made the booking) I told her this and she apologised and said I should never have been given the reservation due to the party taking place that night. So instead of calling me back after I had booked the reservation to explain their mistake they waited until I had arrived, to come up with some lame story to cover up, making it seem like I was the one who messed up the situation.

we ate here on a Friday evening and opted for the good value steak menu. The food was of good quality for the price. However, there are two main reasons for not grading this establishment higher. Firstly the staff and general service. It appears that the staff are not well trained. For example, the waitress had no clues to the types of mustard that were on offer. I think that's English and that's French was the response. We ordered a bottle of wine when it was brought to the table the waitress asked if she would like us to open it and saying yes she then proceeded to ask us if she should pour it! The whole thing just had a very amateur feel. The second main reason for not giving this place a higher rating is the decor. I don't think I have every felt more uncomfortable in a restaurant. The whole room is painted in a very deep red that coupled with the poor lighting just makes you feel awful whilst eating. This place is very much in need of updating both in terms of the decor and customer service!

Steak nights provide steak for 2 and a bottle of wine for £35 if I remember correctly. Obviously you add a few extras here and there so the bill will be more than this, but it's still good value. Nicely cooked meal and good service. Prefer the bar to the rather formal restaurant.

Four friends met here yesterday. Our table was reserved but it was in the bar which was rather dark. We chose to eat outside in the sun.and all our drinks were served out to us. We all chose different meals from the starters through to the sweets. Unfortunately we had to go inside for the coffee because it started to rain. We were served the majority of the time bye a waiter named Lee who was a pleasure to meet. The meals were all freshly cooked and the presentation was perfect. I have been to this establishment previously for formal presentations but never an informal one however the standard was of equal standard. I would not hesitate in recommending this establishment for formal or informal meals. My only comment is that the bar is rather dark but this is part of the structure of the old house which can't be altered. Another important area was the cost which for the four of us with starters and coffee to finish was really reasonable. Well done all of you especially Lee.

But nothing necessarily good. Clear case of poor management and comedy of mishaps and errors. The manager clearly did not have a clue - bought out incomplete meals, missed orders and then disappeared with our credit cards! When we pointed out the error of his ways, he thanked us for our feedback but there was no apology! very strange and all a bit faulty towers…Good if you like meat - but would not recommend for vegetarians. After being assured that the ratatouille was a good portion size and I would not need to order sides I was very disappointed when my meal didn't even cover a quarter of the plate. It was also cold. I could have cooked a much better meal myself for a fraction of the price. However if you want a comedy - I would definitely recommend

Having been to the parkhouse hotel on many occasions and thoroughly enjoyed it , I have noticed that recently they seem to have upped their game on the food side of things in the butlers bar and restaurant . All the staff are very a-tentative and friendly . Drinks are reasonably priced and the selection is very satisfactory . I would highly recommend that anyone in the area doesn't miss out on this little gem . Well done to all the team and keep up the great work

Visited this restaurant some months ago and although the food was good , the service was very poor indeed. It seems that staff and a number of changes have been made and this visit was hard to fault, so keep the standard to this level and you can't go wrong. Thanks and will go again.

First I would like to say that we remember the Park House from many years back when it was family owned. My father has frequently dined here lately.Today we were visiting him and the three of us had booked Sunday Lunch. The food was a typical Sunday Lunch, very good and well presented. Two of us chose Trifle which was in a large wine glass, we asked for a small spoon a normal dessert spoon was too big, perhaps if they are going to do desserts this way some long handled spoons would be more appropriate. However I do think that the Restaurant manager should instruct the young male waiter (on duty today)on where to put a glass of wine, right infront of you is not acceptable. Saying that the staff were very pleasant and helpful and the service was good

As it was our 5th wedding anniversary, I thought I would treat the wife. We decided to go back to where we got married and enjoy another meal at the Park House hotel restaurant. We were not disappointed. There were a great selection of menus available, including a "Steak Night", normal restaurant, bar menu and a special "Table d'hote" menu. This was great value at £19.99 for three courses. My wife chose from the special menu and I ordered a steak. Everything was presented beautifully and tasted great. The food was hot, served in good time, not rushed and we had a very enjoyable anniversary. I can highly recommend my dessert selection of "Ruby Red Plum Crumble served with a cinnamon creme anglaise. Delicious!! All the staff were very professional and attended to our every need. The evening was rounded off with after dinner drinks. We would not hesitate to return here, without leaving such a large amount of time between visits next time.

A Sunday lunch here booked for 8pm. We were the last diners to be seated that evening and there were only four other tables occupied. We waited to be offered the menu and in the end had to ask for someone to take our order. My companion required a gluten free menu which we were told would be catered for. The first course arrived minus the soft boiled egg which was to be served with the dish and no gluten free bread. This was rectified. On asking for vinegar this was brought to the table but on shaking the bottle over the food, it was found that the lid had not been screwed on, hence the starter was completely saturated in vinegar. The main course arrived, the gluten free diet had been forgotten when a large Yorkshire pudding was on the plate. This could have had disastrous consequences had the diner not been prudent. The vegetables arrived without serving spoons. We were not offered water and when it was served on request it was without ice or lemon and not topped up during the meal. The desert arrived in a champagne glass but the spoons presented to eat it with were enormous and one had to go seeking staff in the kitchen to find suitable utensils for getting the dessert from the narrow topped glass. Finally it took for ever to get someone to bring a bill, the restaurant was by this time like the Marie celeste and we had been forgotten. A real pity some small but important details let this restaurant down as the food was good.

we visited this restaurant, and was let down by the service, was not even offered the wine list whilst ordering.A large peice of cauliflower was under the table on arrival,we pointed this out to member of staff.it was still there when we left.We ordered off the a la carte menu ,my starter sauted garlic prawns consisted of four prawns salad a jus and some cherry tomatoes.(this equates to two pounds per prawn)not very good value for money. When we came to order dessert awaitress left us with the dessert menu. She then disappeared,so we then sat for twenty minutes plus trying to attract someone,so we could order. So all in all it was not a very pleasant evening. This establishment seems to be overated.

It Was Two of My friends Birthdays so i rang to book Sunday Lunch,I was told that they served sunday lunch till 930pm,and they could fit us in at 8pm,so yes thats fine.so we arrived at 740pm and had drinks in the bar,Waiter came over and told us that there was no turkey ,fish, only one pork or beef left, otherwise just chicken,so we had two chicken, one beef, one pork,When they arrived all had Yorkshire Pudding ON Except the pork,so i had to call the waiter and ask for one he did not look to happy, while we had the meat all on the table we had to wait for 5 mins for veg to arrive this time meat getting cold,There Was No Stuffing with the pork, and we were no even offered sauces to go with our meats ,such as apple or horseradice,The Beef Was Tough,But my friends says there chicken was fine, pork was ok.Than came time to book the sweet.there was hardley any of the sweet availble,so i asked for chease & biscuits which were on flyer as part of the Three Course Meal. The waiter says that he would have to ask chef when he came back he told me it would be a extra £2.50.on the internet tis is misleading as it says differant to the menu that we were givin on the night, this was my treat for my freinds for there birthday,so i was very dissopointed, with the evening ,and the staff were not very friendley even question my friend when he askes for a spoon. When my Sweet came on a huge plate it looked like it was for a 5 year old.

Tried to book a table for lunch: first via their website, failed 3 times, then via telephone. The receptionist tried to connect me to someone (restaurant manager ?) she failed so asked for my name & phone number so that someone could call me back. After an hour and no call I 'phoned and asked to speak to the general manager. He was on holiday I was told, so I asked to speak to his deputy. He was eventually found, and I recounted my experience to him. He apologised and said that he would be able to take the booking. There was no explanation given for the ridiculous service, so I decided in the circumstances I could not trust them to provide a reasonable service and meals. I wondered if he would 'phone me back with an explanation, but he didn't.The booking that I wished to make was for a birthday lunch for 10 people.I found better service and probably better meal elsewhere.

I stayed at the hotel for the week whilst working in the area. I picked this hotel because if the convenient food facilities, and on my first night I headed to the bar for my tea.I ordered the Pea and Mint Soup for my starter which came in the biggest bowl you could imagine, yet consisted of the smallest 'puddle' of fairly tasteless soup nestled in the middle, it was actually quite amusing (I took a picture and will try and upload it!)For main I had the Piri Piri Chicken with Potato Wedges. The chicken was ok, not Piri Piri by any stretch but it was averagely flavoured chicken, and the wedges were very nice. Here lies the problem, and my reason for 2 stars. This food was a fine dining attempt served in a traditional bar. I wanted bar style food, and so I ordered from the bar menu. However what I received was an effort at 'fine dining' that failed to live up to that either. Placing a chicken breast sliced at 45 degrees in both directions placed onto a bed of mixed twigs is neither, it's just confused...What is wrong with good home style cooking with a bistro menu, it's simple and would fit the bill. Interestingly I heard 3 separate groups of other people with similar conversations amongst them that evening... Odd that...

I always look forward to staying a the Park House Hotel but the bar Butlers Bar menu is not particularly inspiring when you consider the competition in Shifnall. The food is always well cooked and of good quality, just a little boring and quite small portions. On the plus side the beer and wine are good, there is a nice atmosphere in the bar and FREE WIFI !!

Just had a Sunday lunch with friends here and can only say, fantastic. Great welcome from a great team of waiting staff. Very professional, friendly and attentive but not in your face at all. Perfect balance for service. The selection of beers is good, the Doombar was especially well kept and would indicate to me that the cellar is well maintained. Like the bar stock the food menu is more than adequate and should provide something for most palates. These ice was prompt once we had ordered, the food was well presented, well cooked and was excellent value. If you are looking for a lunch or dinner venue in this area I would highly recommend a visit here. We have not stayed at the hotel personally but our friends who we met for lunch have stayed here and this is why we went here for lunch. According to them the standard and service as a hotel guest is equally high.

It may be that the chef had a night off, however, this was pretty disappointing. The food served was from the old 'minimalist school' and was frankly neither particularly well cooked nor appetising. The service was mediocre at best, although the server did provide a supplementary dish, once we had expressed our concern about the quantity of food provided. Overall, a disappointing experience which has led us to consider changing hotels in the future for our business meetings

Lovely dinner at Borders tonight, would definitely recommend the Atul Kochher designed flavours of India dishes. Kaela welcomed us with a great smile, knew the menu and worked tirelessly to make our night a bit more special, given the restaurant was very busy with 2 large golf society groups. A great big thank you to her.

Lovely people producing high quality meats. It’s difficult to pick a favourite as everything we bought here was delicious. Really well flavoured salamis, prosciutto and coppa and definitely try the black bacon cured in molasses for a really top notch breakfast. Also stocks a small range of good, mostly local preserves, cheeses and eggs.
