For the first ever London afternoon tea for these 2 Americans…..we couldn’t have chosen a better one. The hotel is gorgeous, along with a beautiful dining room. Now for the tea. Savory options were spot on. Chocolate scone was a bonus I didn’t see offered anywhere else. The sweet top tier was delicious, unique and fun. The added bags of to go candies was awesome. Oh yeah. The tea. Wow. The Fruit Salad was so good……we took home a few bins. To top off the whole experience, our server Jade was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable, funny and an overall great server. She made our day. Thank you Chesterfield. Thank you Jade.

The traditional sweet shop afternoon tea was amazing! The whole afternoon was a fab experience. Jade (waitress) went above and beyond in her duties and was so friendly and professional throughout. The food was delicious and you could have as many refills as you’d like which was nice to pick your favourites. Would highly recommended this afternoon tea experience. Thank you Jade again! :-)

I went to the Sweetshop afternoon tea yesterday and had a great time. The staff were all lovely and really made the experience enjoyable. The doorman was also lovely, very friendly and offered his help with luggage etc. The afternoon tea itself is all refillable and the staff didn’t make you feel guilty for asking for refills which was great. The sandwiches were lovely particularly the cucumber, cream cheese and dill. The scones were delicious, my favourite part of the afternoon tea, you could tell that they’d been cooked fresh and were lovely and warm. The cakes turned out to be my least favourite part of the experience, don’t get me wrong they looked fantastic but some were just too overly sweet for my tastes but that’s just me and my tastebuds. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back for another afternoon tea here, the extra little touches of the welcome drink and sweetshop at the end really round up a brilliant afternoon tea.

A real let down for a 5* hotel afternoon tea. I will explain all the points as to why you should NOT book it. The food was SO disappointing and does not match the description on the menu - the sandwiches were lacklustre, the cheese and tomato one was very salty, the cream cheese and cucumber had no dill in it so it was very flavourless. The egg mayonnaise one had no seasoning so also lacked flavour. The grilled vegetables were just aubergine and courgette so just tasted of pesto. The chocolate scone and peanut butter cup was one of the only nice things that I enjoyed eating. Now the desserts look pretty, but again so disappointing. The drumstick macaron barely tasted of raspberry or anything like a drumstick sweet. The apple and pecan pie was stale! Dry as sand (see picture, I took it home for my sister to try and she said the same). The rhubarb and custard choux bun was also stale and tasted eggy so wasn't pleasant. No flavour to anything, just sugar sugar sugar! The servers were lovely and polite, however, it wasn't busy when we visited on a Monday afternoon so there was no excuse for getting simple orders wrong twice. One of the servers came over to our table whilst my boyfriend had gone to the bathroom and asked if it was his birthday today, and I replied saying it's mine so she asked for my name and wrote it down on a little notepad. Despite waiting before they handed the bill, and after paying the bill (around 20mins), they forgot to bring out anything for my birthday. As we were leaving my boyfriend asked about this and they did apologise and hurriedly brought out the tiniest (and again stale) cupcake for me and said I can put it in the takeaway box. I also found a white hair in one of the sandwiches that I took for my sister to try as she's always been intrigued about the afternoon tea (see picture attached) which put her off completely. Overall, it is overpriced and overhyped. As some reviews have put it, daylight robbery! For a 5 star hotel, and the price point, it is absolutely not worth it. Compared to other afternoon teas where there is live music and tastier, better quality food, this one has let me down massively. I did send an email about all of this and the best they came back with is 'to extend a 25% reduction and complimentary glass of Champagne per person' for my next visit which will never be happening.

We went for the afternoon tea for my daughters 12th birthday. Part of the fun of course is the three tiers of food but sadly they served each person a plate with all the bits on so the magic was gone but also it’s a real pain to actually cut a scone when you’ve no room. There’s no picking what you fancy and sadly the girls didn’t actually care for most of the food. They love an afternoon tea, usually a real treat but this was very under par. Absolutely not worth £201.25 for two children and one adult.

Reserved a table at 2 pm for an afternoon tea for my family of four. This was our mistake, but we ate a light lunch an hour or two before arriving. The tea items are “unlimited” which may explain how expensive the overall experience is, so really, we should have just had breakfast that day and reserved a table closer to lunchtime to ensure we had room. However, the food that was offered was very average, so I wasn’t necessarily overly full when we left. I had a single bite of many of the sandwiches and, likewise, just a small taste of a number of the desserts. Even my kids, who generally love all things sweet, did not particularly enjoy any of the desserts. The towers of treats looked beautiful in pictures, and, I will say, we each had exceptionally good tea, but given the price of the meal, we were definitely expecting more.

Sadly, for us, we felt less than important. We sat for 15 minutes before anyone approached us, and that was after I flagged someone down. We asked “Robert” if we might order a glass of wine. At that point only three tables were taken. The couples at the other two tables were ordering bottles of wine so Robert and another gentleman hovered over them very attentively. Not us, however. We did get served but the lack of attention spoiled the meal for us. This was my 4th stay at this hotel and the service is not what it used to be. Issues at breakfast and in the cocktail lounge too. Disappointing for us.

Been before to the bar and restaurant a couple of years ago for a birthday celebration, I think on a Friday evening which was AMAZING. This time on a Monday post lockdown it felt a lot more sombre. We were the only people in both the bar and restaurant. I missed the piano player who I guess plays only at the weekend. Scallops as a starter were lovely, sea bass with chick peas was good as well. My sticky toffee pudding was ok, the early Grey ice cream didn't taste of early Grey and was not fully warm so that was disappointing. All in all ok but for the price on this occasion it wasn't up to prior experience.

Excellent service, very careful re Covid, good spacing even in the comfortable bar area, excellent food. The piano player was an added bonus. Something else will make me go back on top of all that though. That is learning how this employer, whilst other big hotels nearby use Covid to squeeze employees, has worked hard to not only keep all employees even while hotel bookings have been down dramatically, but has also called them all each week to check they are ok. I think there should be We Care for Our Staff awards for employers and we customers should select based on that. Ask your providers if they have cared for their staff and pick accordingly...

However, i mentioned to the lady in charge that we needed ten quiet minutes and she made sure it happened - great service. I really enjoy Butlers, I find the food good, the wines good, and the staff personable and warm. The staff were lovely, but the room is generally looking a bit tired. It was pretty dead on a Saturday evening. Had the set menu with a wine flight, the lobster omelette was great and fairly generous. Sadly the pork belly was awful - large peices of gristle made it on to the plate, over-smoked mash and broad beans past their best, the accompanying sauce was great but there was not nearly enough of it. Peach Melba made for a decent enough simple pudding. The Pinot noir was good and we had some nice mini macaroons and truffles to finish. Overall ok but uninspired and the main course was a major let-down

We loved the beautiful garden area where we were seated. We went for the traditional afternoon tea with a twist with the willy wonka theme. The sandwiches we had were really nice especially the chicken filling ones with the flaked almonds on the outside. We chose the chocolate flavoured tea which was really nice. We loved the way it tasted like tea but you got this sudden burst of chocolate. We had a lovely time with Mr Wonka who gave us one of his ever lasting gob stoppers and a golden ticket. My friend told Mr Wonka and the staff it was my 50th birthday next month and although i was little embarrassed they were really sweet and brought out a cupcake with a candle and sang happy birthday. We would definately recommend to anyone paying a visit to london to have afternoon tea with Mr Wonka and the staff at the Chesterfield it was well worth it. We opted for: lobster omelette and pate, (pieces of lobster could have been larger... like the Goring !!). Chicken for the mains and a cheese cake for desert. All well presented, good temperature and sensible portion sizes. We added in the matching wines, very pleasant with the food. A focus on South African, the hotel has ties to a Vineyard down there. A non intrusive piano player creating a welcoming background sound to an almost empty restaurant. All in all a good lunch, a warm and welcoming place. The bars good too... a gentlemens club feel.

Booked to go for an Afternoon Tea for a friend's birthday but I have a SEVERE allergy to egg so to highlight the importance I contacted the hotel via email and phone to stress the importance of the allergy. In which the hotel assured me they could cater to my strictly-no-egg request. I felt confident as has visited The Ritz six months prior to this for an afternoon tea and it was absolutely amazing - (completely egg-free!) therefore I figured a 4 star hotel in Mayfair would also be very conscientious and caring - How wrong I was.I ate the Afternoon Tea and I noticed my lips began to feel very itchy but think anything of it. I boarded the Paddington to Reading train and within minutes of departing I started to feel very, very unwell, I found the nearest toilet on the train (which aren't always the most pleasant experience) and started violently vomitting, my lips were swelled, eyes became red and itchy, nose running, my body broke out in a massive rash, I developed hives and had excruciating abdominal pains - I knew it was an allergic reaction and I hadn't eaten anything else that day apart from The Chesterfield's 'egg-free' Afternoon Tea.I was obviously unable to work that evening (I was working in a restaurant to fund university) and I spent the next 15 hours being violently ill. I was also unable to return to work for the following 72 hours as my boss had to treat my illness as food poisoning. Resulting in losing in 32 hours of work and over £200 in earnings because of this hotel's negligence. A week later I typed a strongly worded letter (with the help of my a friend who is a solicitor) and waited their response. They replied advising there was no egg in the food and suggesting it may have been 'cross-contaminated' or 'it may have been something else I have eaten that day!' I hadn't eaten anything else that day and I was 100% sure it was the afternoon tea as started to feel ill as soon as I ingested it. The Chesterfield didn't accept ANY responsibility, apologise or offer any compensation. So paid full price for their food/service which essentially poisoned me. I have lost my confidence in eating out and will NEVER go there again and advise anyone who suffers from allergies/intolerances not to. I am absolutely disgusted in their negligence and customer service.

I had the pleasure to dine in the restaurant of the charming Chesterfield hotel, which I previously knew mostly for the popular piano bar, last week.

The cuisine is very english, traditional with tasteful choice of ingredients and wines. Prices very reasonable considering that is located in the hearth of Mayfair.

On top of the experience the warm welcome from the restaurant manager Loris, very attentive and helpful, who was able to pleasure even my guest, usually very picky!

Took my girlfriend and my mother here. We had an amazing evening. Food was great and the atmosphere was really cozy. The staff attended to your every need and you really felt looked after. It was also peaceful in the restaurant, allowing relaxed conversations with loved ones and friends.

In order to offer some ares of improvement, the only thing I can think of is that they have french fries as standard to some of the meals. Although they were happy to cater for you should you wish to have something else, I still feel that french fries does not really belong in this type of restaurant.

But overall, it was a fantastic evening with lovely staff and I would absolutely recommend this restaurant!

I have experienced other Afternoon Teas in London and certainly, the Chesterfield Butler's Restaurant ranks right up there with the best. The food and the service were without doubt at the top on the line. The theme for this Afternoon Tea was 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' and it was certainly a nice twist to the the normal everyday presentation. The food was unlimited; you could obtain as much sandwiches, scones and sweets as you desire. The only negative that I would address was not so much the piano player but the the piano itself. When we arrived, we were given a table right next to the piano and since the sound (it wasn't music) was very loud and we could not hear each other, we asked to be move to a quieter area since one of the reasons we booked this restaurant was to have two hours of great conversation over the afternoon tea. Although we were move a quite distance from the piano player, the sound (it wasn't music) unfortunately carried even to our table. I always believed that any type of music in this setting should be like wallpaper; there but no really there; in the background that adds to the ambience of the establishment. The playing of the piano certainly did not enhance the ambience of the restaurant; in fact, it was annoying to myself and my party; it would not be so bad if what he was playing something that was recognizable, however, it seemed he used this opportunity to tune in his piano. Great afternoon tea; great food, great service but leave out the piano player!

A fabulous lunch at Butler's, the lobster omelette starter was superb. The chicken from the trolley was melt in the mouth. Good choices on the lunch menu, great value. Service was excellent, staff friendly and welcoming, making our experience more enjoyable. A real treat.

I went for dinner to Butlers at the weekend to celebrate a birthday and was very impressed by the quality of food and service. The restaurant itself is very traditional – so I can understand why some people would find it perhaps a bit old fashioned but it is a very nice place to go for a discreet but extremely pleasant evening.

I had the set 3 course meal and as has been noted in other reviews it is incredibly good value. What is also nice is that there are no time restrictions on the set menu as there are in many places offering pre-theatre dining options. Portions are extremely generous and there was a good choice (I ended up with lobster omelette to start – very very nice, red mullet and cheesecake). I was a bit fussy in asking for the mullet to be grilled rather than pan fried – this was done without any fuss.

However what was really amazing was the level of attention and effort that went into the petit fours that we were offered in recognition of the birthday celebration. The waiters even sang happy birthday to my friend (to his utter embarrassment)! Really great place and experience – highly recommended.

Take a very good hotel with enthusiastic and friendly staff. Put a restaurant in the hotel and staff it with professionals at the top of their game. Add a quirkiness and individuality that sets it apart and a manager conducting proceedings with a watchful eye and you have Butler's at the Chesterfield. From smoked salmon sliced at the table to a divine strawberry dessert I have seldom enjoyed a meal more.

We had an afternoon tea at the Chesterfield a couple of years ago, which was a fantastic experience, so was pleased to see a great Open Table offer for their Butlers Restaurant. Upon arrival you are given a separate menu with a slightly reduced choice of meals, but that's the only noticeable difference. The greeting was warm and sincere and the level of service throughout was impeccable! Food was great and unbelievable value at £26 for three courses! A great evening and highly recommended.

Set in the heart of Mayfair, the Chesterfield Hotel is a great location, a little more dated than I remembered.
I went on a Thursday eve in a group of 6 . I think restaurant only had 1 or 2 other tables occupied so very quiet (apart from us) We had a splendid time. 3 courses £26 = BARGAIN.
Definitely would go back again.
Not a trendy place, but nice quality food and polite waiters.
5* treatment.

Wow! From the moment you walk into the Chesterfield, it feels special, then through to the Butler's open up to something very impressive. Quintessentially British with a very warm welcome. Staff are so attentive and know how to impress.

We arrived to start our meal as the afternoon-tea's were finishing - we were already impressed with the range of assorted goodies on the other tables. The menu's are varied and mouthwatering, and the waters are more than willing to explain the selections in detail.

The food - great and good value for money!

You must try the home-made walnut bread! Scrumptious with butter and a sprinkle of the variety salts which are available with your own mortar and pestle to grind at the table

Mine was followed with the Waldorf Salad then Chicken roast - both absolutely beautifully served and presented; both tasted great. My partner had the Asparagus soup followed by the steak - all presented and tasted perfect.

After seeing another table sampling a selection of Gin's, we inquired and ended up doing the same. The G&T Experience was such a surprise but so recommended. Professionally explained, great variety and very relaxing any time of day or night!

The added extra for me was the Birthday cake, secretly requested by my partner. Actually, 'a slice of cake' was requested, but resulted in a mammoth size chocolate cake, served to the table by the professional waiters with traditional song.

I cannot recommend Butler's enough for anybody wanting something special, or even drop into the bar for a G&T Experience with friends.

We'll certainly be returning (Afternoon Tea is on the agenda)

Thanks to all the staff for a great friendly and relaxing evening.

Thanks - Simon & Katie

There are lots of great deals on this and other websites for restaurants but it is difficult to get one for a big group. Butlers let me book the deal for 10 people and we were given a nice round table in a sunken area in the restaurant. I love round tables because you can chat to everyone.

The food was delicious, I would recommend the onion and cider soup, it was very good. The service was polite and unobtrusive.

Overall the meal was great value, especially for Mayfair!

Tea was great, plain scones excellent, sandwiches good but cakes disappointing. Some cakes replaced by a chocolate bar or egg and others uninspired e.g. basic cupcakes with strange artificially coloured icing. Service could have been more attentive.

Attended business lunch at Butlers - oak panelled entrance and a traditional, British setting. We were sat in an excellent discrete area with plenty of space around us.

Service was excellent - our main waiter was very knowledgeable and one only person (a waitress) interrupted our conversation when in full flow (a trend I am increasingly with waiting staff in London).

Food was excellent and plentiful. We had a main course and a dessert and felt very satisfied. I would return for a business lunch.

Impeccable and first class service from all staff at the hotel and restaurant. The treacle glazed gammon from the trolley was truly delicious and the meal as a whole was of a very high standard. Am looking forward to my next visit to Butlers.

Had lunch for fiancé's birthday - lovely restaurant, nice and quiet during weekday lunchtime, excellent quality food, excellent mocktails, however, what stood out was the service and attentiveness of the staff - they went above and beyond to make the lunch special. Would highly recommend for the lunch menu.

We had dinner at the Butlers with my partner and all I can say that it was second to none in every way. From the greeting at the door to paying our bill, the service was attentive, but not intrusive, the food was fantastic (I had the Dover sole, and my partner had the steak) and the traditional look of the restaurant takes you back to a different time, and I must say it is very rare in London nowadays.
The staff made this evening so enjoyable that we cannot wait to return!

I had dinner with my wife at the Butlers and it was a good surprise. The food was delicious and the service excellent. The ambiance is also very cozy and romantic, so clearly a good option for a special occasion. It is not cheap though. We had a starter, main course and a bottle of wine and ended up paying £150 with service included. It is definitely a great place if you are not on a budget

Don't go there!... We arrived before 1 p.m. and ordered 2 croque monsieurs, we said that we would be served quickly (so we immediately booked a tour of Westminster for 2 p.m./2:30 p.m.). At 1:40 p.m. we were told that our order had not yet been issued (even though there were 9 customers in the restaurant), and that it would take 7 minutes for it to come out. We confirm that we are taking it anyway since we had not had breakfast. Well, at 2 p.m. we got up and left without having seen the shadow of a croque monsieur. So we ran to Westminster to enjoy our visit, on empty stomachs from the day before. And so I'm writing this message at 5 p.m. still having eaten nothing. Ashamed !!! Noting that when leaving we still paid almost €20 for our drinks for a coke and a spritz without the slightest action being made. In short, if you want to waste your time, you understand (and even then I find it hard to imagine if I had ordered a slightly more sophisticated dish)

No opinion on the food as we didn’t eat, The atmosphere is okay but not the best environment if you’re looking to party the night away. Staff are great but seem to be understaffed. Wasn’t too busy but half the place was occupied. Could have definitely been served a little faster.

Shocking. Nice location and atmosphere with reasonably priced wine, however the food prices, quality and volume were extremely poor. In my view a rip off. The whole lobster for two was tiny. I would avoid eating here.

The rooms aren’t very well ventilated, so it gets quite hot and uncomfortable inside. That aside, when your session is about to finish, the staff will walk in and turn off the equipment right on the dot, without any warning. You’re asked to leave almost immediately. I thought it was a bit rude when a woman walked in with an antibacterial spray in one hand and a cloth in the other. Without saying a word to anyone, she switched off all the equipment while people were still singing and enjoying themselves. Despite that, we captured some lovely videos and photos of the evening. We had a great time singing, and most importantly, my girlfriend had a truly wonderful birthday 🎂 Cheers! 🥂
