Visited Bury with friends. Visited this excellent fish and chip shop for lunch. It isn’t a restaurant but when we asked if we could eat in the staff provided knives and forks and the meals were served on china plates. The fish was superb and freshly cooked to order. The shop was nice and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. Very good prices. Definitely will be visiting again. Thank you

This is a lovely little fish and chip shop. Ideal when you are shopping in town. Essentially a takeaway. But with a couple of tables inside and a couple more outside. We opted for outside. There is a nice choice beyond the standard fish and chips and portions are generous. But the best thing is that the chips are both vegan and GLUTEN FREE!! Liggt crispy fluffy chips. And all served with a smile.

We aren't local and this is the only chippy we've been to but it's nowhere near as good as the chippies in Cheshire. The kid's portions are big but the normal portions are stingy...especially on chips. Having said this, we wouldn't have wanted more dry, bland chips anyway. The staff are pleasant and were welcoming towards our children. I can't fault that. It's just a, shame the food is average and that is what we went in for.

Nice staff, clean, great value BUT terrible food. What has gone wrong with this place. Everybody I know told me how how down this place has gone from being the best in Bury St Edmunds a couple of years ago. The Cod was just mush and luke warm and the mushy peas were in the small container possible and were cold .. that’s it for me, will never be back and when the current owners wake up and say “what’s happened to my business”, read these reviews ..

Popped in as I work locally for a quick lunch takeaway. It was not quick ages before I could place my order, ordered just chips as there was a wait for fish etc, which is fair enough, nice and fresh. Main concern for me was that the guy plating the meals was using his hand instead of tongs for plating the fish. Overall the impression was that the waitress' didn't have a clue what was going on, who had been served etc., the restaurant wasn't full so doesn't bode well for busier times.

Ordered 2 large chips. The older grey haired guy taking orders was quite abrupt when taking my order and with other customers. He was also very snappy at the other people working there. I waited 20 min for my order. The chips are served in cardboard containers and it was a small portion at best for £3.30. Considering they were cooked fresh they didn’t stay hot for very long. Won’t be going back there again.

We have been here many times and we have never been let down. The restaurant is basic and clean. The waiter who is usually serving has a very relaxed and friendly way with the customers. He is very organised and the tables are cleared and cleaned as soon as the customer has finished. The quality of the food is excellent and not overcooked. The chips are crisp as is the batter covering the fish. We have had both the cod and haddock and they are both well worth trying. The mushy peas hit the spot! My wife and I usually have the regular sized portion each and that is enough for a filling and nutritious lunch. The coffee is instant but who cares, this is not fine dining and seems to go perfectly with the meal.

First experience of England fish and chips was not what it should have been. This was my first expression of how customer service is here. Go to England and try fish & chips they said. Ordered from a butcher counter. After Ordering, I learned that there was a additional charge to sit at a table, approximately $5 USD. So I opted to sit on the bench outside. The fish was very large, and ample amount of fries. I tried a fry, very hot so not sure what it tasted like. Wait wait waitTried the fish, very hot, so hot can't taste. After one bite of fish, I accidentally spilled my entire plate on the ground. I cleaned it up the mess with my hands, took it inside and asked the boy behind the counter to dispose of it and explained that I'd accidentally spilled it on the ground and then asked where I could wash my hands. The older man behind the counter, was quite rude and instructed the young boy to make sure I'd cleaned it up. The boy said there wasn't anywhere to wash my hands but pointed at napkins. I purchased bottle water, took a couple napkins and poured water on my hands outside and dried with napkins. So, not the best first impression on the U.K. Great start to my 10 day vacation in England!

I was served skate which was under cooked in the middle. After poking it with his finger and telling me it's just the time of year, I informed the chip shop owner I just couldn't eat it. It turned my stomach to have to eat it when it was red in the middle. Skate has neurotoxin in raw flesh and must be properly cooked. I got no apology or offer of a different fish. My plate was taken away. Very disappointing.

Best fish & chips by far in Bury St Edmunds, Eat in or take away, most cooked to order so nothing re-fried like a couple of the other chippies.

Not very often that I would title a fish and chip shop excellent that isn't in my area of the country! This was great, chose the medium haddock with chips and peas to take away...the haddock was what would probably be considered large in many other places, the chips were great, I suspect hand cut, the fat was fresh, giving a pale yellow colour to them, the fish batter was great too....if I can complain about anything I guess it would have to be the peas, a little more taste to them ( perhaps a slight addition of mint ) would have improved them slightly, but I guess that is not to everyone's liking, never before seen the type of material used for the trays, ( they were rigid and didn't absorb anything ) it appeared to be a recycled card, but was not brown in colour like you usually see with recycled paper. The two people serving were young men, they were very professional, pleasant and efficient, a credit to the restaurant.....overall excellent, hope to go back again one day if i happen to be in that neck of the woods.

I purchased fish and chips from bury fish and chip shop and it was probably the best takeaway fish and chips I have ever eaten. They were very fresh and delicious, and the portions are generous.

A total failure. Ordered well in advance and it’s turns up 30 minutes late, cold and dry. Chicken was just about edible but still gross. I called and spoke to a guy incapable of English, doing his job or caring. We will return the food. We will lever waste our money here again and I suggest you buy your food somewhere else. This place doesn’t serve “food”
