I planned on visiting an entirely different restaurant in Nottingham before spotting this one as I got off the tram at Lace Market. The service we received was excellent and our waitress was so friendly. We asked for her recommendations from the 'street food' section of the menu. She suggested the aloo tikki and pao bhaji and we were not disappointed! The pao bhaji is slightly spicy so probably not one for those who aren't a fan of spicy foods but both were delicious. We also had the cheese and onion bhajias which were my personal favourite. We then shared the paneer saag with the peshwari naan, both of which were lovely. The food is slightly pricey as they don't really do offers like other restaurants however, it's the perfect place to go as a treat. I would also strongly recommend it to anybody who is a vegetarian as there are so many vegetarian options, full of flavour. Neither of us are vegetarians and I would never normally go for a meat-free option but I definitely didn't feel like I was missing out!

Burra-Khana is located in the best possible spot in Nottingham City Centre if you rely on the tram system, it is directly next to the Lace Market Stop. But from the view of other significant areas in close proximity to the restaurant is that it is only a minute walk from Broadmarsh, Old Market Square and a few minutes walk from Victoria Center and the Motorpoint Arena. Therefore ithas the potential to be ideal for shoppers, Ice Hockey fans and people visiting the Arena. Upon entering, was very disappointing, the staff simply were not there, it took persistence to find staff to seat us and during our visit we saw numerous other potential customers walk away when no one greeted them. The food is over priced but it was extremely good, tasting as it does in India and Pakistan. The taste was authentic and dare I say, it even tasted better than the originals in India and Pakistan.

Ordered food to go from here and was really disappointed by the quality of the food and taste, really bland and lack of bite which you expect from this cuisine. Great location and potential but of the quality is not there then it all goes to waste. A shame!

We reserved a table for 2 couples at this restaurant during week time. We managed to order drinks after being there for 15min, then we had to wait for another 20min to get them. We ordered the food which seems interesting and different from a typical indian. After an hour of waiting, we asked the waiter where was the food and we've been waiting for an hour. They 'apologied' for the delay, they had a christmas dinner with 30people in another room... If you know you have a big christmas party you prepared the food in advance or hire more staff, which btw seems overwhelmed. When we finally had the food, they forgot to bring some of the plates and drinks we ordered! The food was good and nothing to critique about but no plates where outstanding and will not make us come back. No commercial gesture on the bill was made neither some bread or appetizers during the long wait. To conclude, go to that restaurant only if you have 3hrs free in your calendar!

We had a reservation for 20:15 on Friday, we arrived on time in what initially looked a very busy Nottingham bar. They seem to have sectioned off one part for this new Indian restaurant. I recall joking with the manager that “Burra Khana” means bad food in various Indian dialects, to which he replied “Yes the food is really bad” in a very serious tone. He probably didn’t have sense of humour, I was expecting him to give me some context behind the name... Any we must have waited for over an hour and we could see some of the other tables complaining about not being served. We must asked the waiter a few times but we’re just fobbed off. Also what was disappointing was the restaurant’s refusal to be flexible on the dishes. I often expect this reluctance from establishments which serve ‘pre-cooked’ meals! So I’m none the wiser if the restaurant name actually reflects the quality of food, Burra Service seems a more fitting name.

Four of us booked to dine at this restaurant on a Saturday evening. The ambience was decent and well located in the centre of the city. I rated this place as 1 star for the following reasons: 1/ Menu options for Vegetarian and Vegan were very limited with no option to order anything but what was on the menu. 2/ Popadoms were stale and the pickles / chutneys did not taste fresh. 3/ Waited nearly 1hr for the food - it did not arrive. So we raised this with a senior colleague who confirmed it was being prepared and offered the drinks for free. We left the restaurant at this point. We tried calling other Indian restaurants in the city which were fully booked - we can understand why now. I understand the words Burra Khana means ‘bad food’ in Hindi - I guess it’s all in the name. Unfortunately a disappointing experience and will not be returning.

We visited this restaurant around half 4/ 5pm on a Saturday evening. So quite busy but it shouldn't be rammed. Initially we ordered a jug of water and the had to chase that 15 minutes later, then I had to keep chasing our drinks (they finally arrived when we nearly finished our mains). We waited 45 mins for the pistachio kulfi before finally cancelling that and just asking for the bill. They gave us a discount on the bill for the poor service (we were not the only ones impacted and we saw other tables receive a discount too). It was then irritating that after getting the bill we had to wait about 20 mins to get someone with a card machine. I am not sure if it was just a bad day for them but I don't think I will visit for a while as it is presumably teething problems. However, on the positive side, it was really good value. We ordered several dishes. They were exciting, fun and different to the usual Indian meal in the UK. We all loved our dishes, it was just the waiting for everything and chasing up of a lot of things that let the place down.

This was our favourite place to eat Indian food when we lived in Nottingham in the 1980s. Our last meal here was in July 2019 and we had hoped to have an anniversary meal here on 17th October 2023 but it was "closed for a revamp". We are very much looking forward to our next visit!

After not visiting Rikshaw for some time, I decided to give it another try, but unfortunately, this visit will be my last. While the staff at the front were polite, friendly, and genuinely tried their best to help, they were clearly overwhelmed, handling what seemed like the workload of multiple people. It was impossible not to notice them constantly rushing around, juggling multiple responsibilities with very little support. There were different prices listed across various sources—the in-store menu, the digital screen, and the final system that staff used to process orders. With so many inconsistencies, it was nearly impossible to tell how much I’d actually be charged. It’s clear that this isn’t the fault of the workers, who were doing all they could to manage the chaos. Instead, this reflects poorly on the management or ownership, whose choices have left both customers and staff in a difficult spot and though I initially voiced this to the staff, I realised they weren’t to blame and apologised. They’re simply doing their job in a challenging environment. I hope the feedback encourages the management to make necessary changes, for both their staff’s sake and future customers’.

Asked a polish taxi driver to take us to a really nice Asian styled restaurant. After nearly 8 miles away from our hotel he brought us here. Couldn’t really make anything out of the taste as it was all cooked for the English palate. Anyways the establishment doesn’t sell Halal meats. Luckily we asked. So you have to ask them before ordering. The guy taking our order seemed very confused when we asked him on the authenticity of the Halal meat. But luckily very hesitantly told us to eat the chicken. Anyways we stuck to the veg starters and dishes. I think the only person to get a buzz out of the whole experience was the taxi driver taking us back on a two way fare.
