Was driving down to Dunfries for work, and had slipped on breakfast and morning coffee, so when I got to Sanquhar I decided to pull in to the Burnside Tearoom. Little cafe just as you drive in to the town, and really inviting welcome awaits you. Great prices and staff are really chatty. Ordered a coffee and breakfast roll to go which was freshly prepared in no time and truly excellent prices. If passing through again I will be sure to stop here.

Four of us called in by prior arrangement at Burnside for lunch. We were treated like royalty by Graham and his ladies. Lunch for us consisted of soup, then scones for the ladies and bacon rolls or hot dog for us guys. Coffee and tea of course. The menu covers most bases for lunch. I can’t opine for breakfast. The place is easy to find right next to the petrol station and has ample parking. It is very clean and inviting inside. I am sure the locals will give it their attention and it’s an obvious watering hole for passing traffic. We will return here whenever we find ourselves back in Sanquhar.

This is such a welcoming and friendly cafe. Always feel like the staff go above and beyond. The system that they have for track and trace is super stress free, it feels and looks clean (including the toilets) and the tables inside are socially distanced. Would always prefer to stay local and help smaller businesses, especially now in such difficult times. I have yet to find a place with the same quality food that has prices as low as these?! Staff are always approachable and helpful. We will most definitely be visiting again once it is safe to do so! Thanks so much!

I stopped for fuel and a scone which were excellent. I had a car problem and was waiting for the AA and they said I could stay even after they shut if I was still waiting. ! As it happened we were on our way but it was great to know. THANK YOU.

Hi, just wanted to say a huge thanks for the lovely friendly faces and service I received today. Not an area I often visit with work but needed fuel and luckily stopped here. The coronation chicken roll was filled full and tasted great and my latte was amazing. What a great wee find, thank you 😊

I recently fined with a friend for lunch before moving to China. The waitresses are all so lovely and welcoming. It truly does make you feel at home here. The menu is packed full of old favourites, and some daring dishes for the more adventurous palate and the selection of home baked goodies is endless. The quality of the food is superb. All home made, and lovingly prepared. Fresh and bursting with flavour. It truly is a delight to come to burnside and be made to feel like part of the family. It’s also great to stop in and fill your tank with petrol or diesel, or even pick up a mix up for the kids for your travels. You can also find a beautiful selection of craft goods and handmade home wares.

Came through Sanquhar this afternoon whilst out with friends on a motorcycle run. Almost missed this wee gem when we were looking for somewhere to grab a bite to eat. The cafe adjoins a petrol filling station. Plenty adjacent parking in the grounds. The place appeared spotless with very friendly and helpful young waiting staff. Simple, light snack style meals on offer along with things like homemade soup. Great place for something quick to eat at very reasonable prices. If I’m back in the area I would definitely return.

Visited for the first time today with 3 fussy kids and all were happy. Friendly, accommodating staff. We tried the A-MAZ-ING Nutella cake that the 14 year old described as "everything a cake should be" and a very grown up chocolate crispy concoction that was so grown up it should have been wearing heels and have a mortgage. (But we didn't need to remortgage to eat there, the prices were very reasonable.) The place was busy but didn't feel rushed at all. Will definitely be back, even though we live an hour away!

We were staying locally and had got soaked to the skin on a walk exploring the surroundings when we walked past the tearoom. There were only a few tables occupied but it had a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We were keen to press on and get back so we ordered lattes to go and the waitress was quick and professional. The coffees were great (as was the home baking that I couldn't resist). We would definitely call in again if we go back to this area.

Called in for lunch, very impressed, my steak pie was great, chips tasty and well cooked. Wife and daughter thoroughly enjoyed macaroni and cheese. Grandson made short work of his ham and cheese wrap. Got some carrot cake to take away, very nice! Prices very reasonable, waitress efficient and friendly. This place is now on my list of ideal places to stop at when travelling up the A76.

Just visited the Burnside tea room for a bite to eat during a visit to Sanquhar. The lady who served us was so friendly! Seemed genuinely happy to see us and made us feel very welcome. There were already another 3 couples inside and the atmosphere was quiet and pleasant. We had toasties, and shared a small plate of chips. Toasties were made fresh and quickly, and packed full of filling. They were served with beautiful fresh side salads. Chips were tasty and hot. We were served with a smile, and afterwards chose cakes to take away with us. My only tiny gripe was the slightly high price in my opinion. But I appreciate the need for this in a small village. Beautiful food and superb service.

Agreed to meet son and grandkids in Sanquhar to pick up something and decided to have a bite to eat. There were approx. 40 motorcyclists there but staff got us a table for 7 and said we might have to wait which was no problem. Waited no longer than we would have in our local hotel. Good choice menu ,second visit in 3 weeks, staff great, prices were very reasonable, 7 empty plates, did not charge for drinks as we had to wait. Will return when on A76.

Have visited this tearoom on many occasions over the years but have to say it’s gone down hill rapidly, getting too expensive and the service was bad waited 25 minutes for a toasty and a wrap by the time they came we had drunk our coffees. When I mentioned to the waitress she apologised and said they were very busy...... 4 tables occupied only, a refill would have been nice. Get the feeling there’s not enough staff, I’ll think twice before going back.

Really good find. As it is part of a working garage and entry via the forecourt we expected it to be a greasy spoon type place. It is anything but that. We were only in for afternoon tea with their excellent home baking but they also do a wide selection of meals and snacks. The decor is nice and homely with a country type feel and the service is very friendly. If passing give this a try as you will not be disappointed.

We ate here twice this August, both at lunchtime. The food was excellent, freshly made and very nicely presented. The staff who served us were very polite and patient with our long winded selecting. The second time we ate there, there was 20 of us!!!, again the girls were very helpful and very patient. I am definitely going to eat there again next year when we return.

The tea room is part of the service station and there is a decent car park on site. There is a good mix of hot and cold food and prices were excellent. Service was good too and the place had the feel of a community hub. Plenty of seating as well, not sure if there was complimentary wifi.

Visited the Frothy this morning for the first & very last time as the cafe is closing. Whilst the cafe was comfortable the coffee wasn’t the best ever tasted and we were stunned at the price! Compared to other coffee houses close by it was surprising; could this be a reason they are not finding it profitable?

I go here regularly for a carvery as it is one of the best I have been to. I am a very fussy eater and to find a carvery that serves chicken as an option is surprising difficult. The three meats to choose from are usually chicken, beef and gammon/ham. The veg/side options usually include cauliflower cheese, broccoli, carrots, Yorkshire pudding, cocktail sausages and stuffing, but the roast tatties are my favourite part of the meal! You are limited to going up to fill your plate only once but I usually leave feeling very full. Sometimes I have soup as a starter as well depending on what kind it is. I highly recommend giving the carvery a go for anyone who is a fan of a good roast!

This cafe served the worst scone I have ever had / didn't have. (and that's saying something as I'm in my 70s and have had a few in my time. You could build a house with a few of them. Inedible expensive rubbish. It came in a paper bag, no plate and a wooden disposable knife which struggled to cut it. The coffee was served in a paper cup. But was drinkable. Cost over £13 for two coffees and two inedible scones. I am disgusted and will definitely won't be back

Friendly, relaxed, flexible and fun. Nick was a brilliant teacher and good company. Took Mother for some quality time together and she was immediately put at ease and we both had a lovely time. Will definitely go again. If you want quality experiences with friends and family AND you want to learn some great life skills to boot then book your place!
