As you will see, I only leave positive reviews as I like to encourage local businesses. But the chicken pad Thai I had delivered from Burning Rose last night was just so awful I had to say something. It was heaving with sugar and I found a piece of soggy chicken skin half the size of my palm buried in the brown sludge. £14 plus delivery. Burning Rose, if you treat your customers with contempt you will go out of business.

Went here with my family and I honestly didn’t know what to order but our waiter Karol sorted us out with a pad krapow and it was amazing! Great service from Karol and the rest of the staff!!!

Had a great meal out excellent service from karol, made sure we were very happy and well looked after. I would definetely recommend to anyone looking for a meal out.

Got takeaway, pad Thai was weirdly sweet, like inedible levels of sweetness - surely should be a bit sweet, bit sour, bit salty, this was like a birthday level level of sweet and other dish was too salty… any Thai can smash out a pad Thai … and with loads of chains, I worry for this lil one… hopefully can adjust levels and make portions a bit bigger… generosity goes a long way… give more and you will get more

Such a strange vibe in this restaurant - there was an ongoing disagreement between the 3 waiters which lasted the whole time we were there. They were arguing between each other and even saw one of the waiters punch a door before going outside for a cigarette. You could sense there were things going wrong with other tables orders also where heard someone asking to take off the service charge. All of this led to quite a tense/odd atmosphere. As for the meal itself - there was something wrong with the draught lager so had bottles which weren’t as cold as they should be. We ordered prawn crackers which never came and were kept on the bill - surely this is the easiest thing to keep ready? I saw two baskets of them being kept on top of a fridge for when people order them but looks like they ran out just before we ordered. Pad Thai had slightly undercooked noodles and spring rolls were fine. The restaurant has a really good open kitchen which reminds me of Kiln in Soho - but then the chefs would go missing every now and again so the back half of the restaurant would be completely empty - again adding to a strange atmosphere in this restaurant. Some of the ceiling is peeling off also. I read a positive review of Burning Rose which led me to visit but I’m not sure what has happened since then - in any case I won’t be returning unless I hear things have changed for the better.

Went last night with a friend. Waited 45 mins for 2 pad thais..as other people around us arrived later and were served before us. We asked the waiter why and he said there was a glitch in the system so our order didn’t go through. After a bit our orders arrived - to be honest, felt like they rushed them. Noodles were also slightly uncooked. They asked us to pay as soon as we finished and didn’t get any mention of a discount because of the delay…not a great service!

The food was delicious and the staff were really friendly. Will definitely be going back

Average food - too sweet for Thai Service was not great - they need more servers. After having been there for an hour a takeaway box took another 30 min and ultimately had to leave without it because they were too busy.

I enjoyed my food . Really tasty . My friend was recommended a dish by the waiter but was not told how spicy it was and could not eat it . The menu never said how spicy either !

Just ordered this as a takeaway, very disappointed. Was expecting something really nice for the price- £40 for two pad Thai’s and a starter of chicken wings. Honestly the pad Thai was worth a fiver at best. Stodgy and tiny. Didn’t even fill the container it came in. We got 4 tiny wings. For £17 for one pad Thai this was absolutely not worth the money. There is much better value places.

The portion of prawn pad Thai takeout is miserable. Less than half of the box is filled. What a rip-off for a £13.95 item. The pad Thai also tastes too sweet. This is probably the worst pad Thai I have tasted in London.

Six of us went out for a meal early on a Saturday evening. Tried to order a cocktail - sorry, no cocktails due to the bar menu being redone. Ok, a bottle of Prosecco instead - sorry, no Prosecco either! Got to the point of what exactly do you have?? One friend laughingly said do you have any food, and then we get told there are no prawn crackers, a couple of starters were not on either and only one portion left of one of the chicken mains. Also disappointed that there weren’t many veggie meals to choose from, two of us do eat meat but prefer veggie. Why no veggie curries? Surely it can’t be difficult to substitute tofu or just vegetables in the curry sauces? The highlight were the rotis, beautifully crisp and delicious. Rest of the meals were ok, 4 prawn pad Thais and two chicken curries, but nothing outstanding. Bill came to £165.38, including a 12.5% service charge of £18 added. Our friend asked to split the bill three ways, each couple paying £55, which ended up being quibbled over as this would be 38p short. She pointed out that we could deduct the £18 service charge instead, but preferred just to pay £165, which eventually was agreed to. Left a bit of a sour taste.

I visited on a quiet Sunday evening. I will say that the service was friendly and efficient, and there was a nice, relaxing atmosphere. However, I was really disappointed by the Prawn Pad Thai. Firstly, the portion was tiny, and there were exactly 3 prawns, which for £14 seems pretty stingy. It was also extremely sweet and sugary, to the extent that it tasted like a desert. I'm no expert but I've eaten enough Pad Thai in my life (including in Thailand) to know that it should have a hint of sweetness, but it is still a savoury dish. I had never tasted anything like this before, and I couldn't finish it. My friend's curry was better but again, a tiny portion for the price. There are much better Thai restaurant options in the area in my opinion.

The place is small and cozy. We visited with a group of 15 people last Christamas, and were served by amazing staff members Karol, Clair, Bertie, Lenin, and Abchar. The service and food are great and we even got some extra food free of charge. Highly recommed.

When ordering there were missing items from the menu they hadn’t warned us about. After ordering and waiting for our food they came back and said the main we ordered (sea bass) was also sold out. So all in all, every item we initially ordered ended up not coming. While waiting they put down someone else’s food on our table, took back and then dished straight to them but I had already touched the food! Everything seemed a bit of a mess. Didn’t take anything off the bill and still charged us for service without a comment

Order via deliveroo the fish cakes, sticky chicken wings and crispy thai chicken stir fry. The fish cakes were dry with a bunch herbs in the middle. The chicken wings and crispy thai chicken were so hard to chew I got a headache and the crispy Thai chicken were not any spicier than the sticky chicken wings (same sticky sauce?) despite the former having a chilli next to it. A disappointing experience overall.

The food here is really good, particularly the pad krapow which almost beats some of those I had in Thailand. Laab can be hard to find in London and was also very good, as was the lamb massaman. Prices are a little extreme but not out of line with other Thai restaurants in the area.

We were recommended Burning Rose by our friends and it did not disappoint! We stumbled in quite late on a Thursday evening and were offered the ‘chef’s table’. (Bar seats up by the kitchen). Ordinarily this wouldn’t be my favourite place to sit but our experience here changed my mind. The service was excellent - our waiter gave us perfect recommendations and made the most delicious cocktails. We then enjoyed a fabulous meal with the chef and owner serving and explaining each dish to us - all of which were delicious. I’d definitely recommend the chicken wings, the laab and the pad Thai but everything was amazing. 100% the best Thai food I’ve eaten in London - I’m already excited to go back!

So not worth the price! 6 of us went here tonight having heard great things. We asked the waiter as to what were the best things to order and he said the sea bass, prawns and pad Thai. We decided to order mixed starters then each have our own main courses. Everything turned up together - not even sure we had sour starters! Food was fine but nothing amazing. St 10 o clock the restaurant had emptied and the waiter said we had five more minutes then had to leave! Forget it it guys si t be coming back - too many other lovely places too visit!!

Previously had an issue when you’ve got deliveries were there wasn’t much chicken or pork in the chicken or pork dishes et cetera . This seems to have been resolved. I’ve just had an absolutely fantastic delivery. The flavours are unbelievable. There’s a lot of skill involved here. It’s not cheap. The portions are not massive, but they are more than adequate and it’s back to being my go to.

Got a delivery last night as we love the food here. I’ve heard of “shrinkflation” but it’s getting ridiculous at this place. Pad Thai - four prawns and a similar number of strands of noodles for £14. Honestly don’t care if they wanted to bulk out that dish with more noodles and less prawns than usual but to do both seems mean. As to the chicken wings for £8 starter…those birds (both of them!) need some RSPB input. We’ve stopped ordering the fish cakes for the same reason but the disease seems to be spreading. Would have taken a photo to share but the dishes had mostly evaporated before I could get to a camera! I get that input costs have gone up but this feels like price gouging now. Too many other good Thai’s around to continue here - suggest Cher for Clapham locals. They seem to have found a cheaper noodle supplier!

Been here 3 times now and it’s 10/10 every single time! The staff are attentive and friendly, the food is immense (the best pad Thai I’ve ever had), and great atmosphere inside - kudos to whoever puts the music playlist on, love it. Definitely one of my favourites in Balham. A trust worthy meal every time!

The food and service were amazing, the best Thai I've had in a while. The only downside was that it was a bit quiet in the restaurant on the Sunday evening that we went, so it was lacking a bit of atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit though, we'll be going back.

Saw this place had good reviews and was tempted. Food portions small and nothing special. No desserts or coffee available. If you want a fast food place, this would be for you, but if you want a night out go elsewhere. Service appalling... the manager literally threw us out at 1 hour 15 minutes. I had to stand in the street to finish drinking my wine, which was not even chilled and over priced. I took the glass out with me, and he suggested I drunk it from the bottle. The most disgusting service I have ever encountered. The manager us rude and had a toddler tantrum when we complained. The food is not freshly cooked.. if you see the kitchen the sauces rice etc are all in tubs waiting to be heated. I genuinely do not understand the good reviews. Walk across the road to firefly, much better food, atmosphere and service. If I could give this zero stars I would.

Not really sure why it has got such good reviews. I’ve had a lot of Thai food and it was slightly above average but the portion size was just too small. The whole seabass was so tiny that it was served on a small plate! There were only 4 prawns in the prawn pad Thai at £14.

Very disappointing . The restaurant itself is very attractive. Spring rolls overcooked burnt at both ends and amorphous taste. The chicken satay was so infused with citrus ...it wasn't chicken satay. The pad Thaithree of us ordered it and none of us could finish it. Prawns were rubbery and the other ingredients formed a kind of gudge. It felt as if been cooked earlier and reheated a few times . I have eaten Thai food for many years, Pad Thai being a favourite, soggy /sticky sometimes but never a congealed mass of unidentifiable ingredients. the bill came to £178 with 2 pints of beer and two bottles of cheapish wine 2 starters and 4 main courses and crackers ...so not cheap!

Special shout out to the staffs Bertie, Dev, Karol and Jin - amazing staff! Excellent service and the food was delicious! I would recommend the Pad Krapow.

Went with my friend for catch up while having nice dinner and some drinks. We had a chance to sit at the chefs table. Chef Bertie extremely professional and charming person (and not scary at all like other chefs :)), gave his recommendations what we should have to eat with also adapted levels of heat (which was very nice). Every single dish was amazing! We had fish cakes with palm sugar caramel sauce (absolutely my favourite), spring rolls (made to perfection), Gai Yang chicken. Wine list is impressive, nothing super expensive but really good selection that suits the place. Service was attentive and kind. Can’t recommend it enough! If you in the area visit! We will be back.

Very close to original Thai food

Stopped by for a birthday celebration meal. Was warmly greeted by everyone when we arrived even the chefs felt like coming home. Claire was our waitress and she was attentive and really good with toddler! She explained the menu further to help make the best decision. Highlights for me the Miang of prawns which was first time I had something like that flavour explosion and the panaeng beef curry wow so tender and flavoursome loved it ! The head chef was a sweetie and gave toddler special treat which was lovely thank you !

The menu had a great range of choices, especially for the non- meat eaters in our small group of friends. We shared 4 different starters but had our own mains. The excellent waiting staff recommended the roti, which was delicious. Would definitely return.

The best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand. I had the laab and my boyfriend had the pork curry, both were delicious. The service was great too.

Disappointing visit. The website is not updated with the most up to date menu, and there aren’t any desserts. We were expecting to eat some dishes but they weren’t available. Service wasn’t very good either. We didn’t have a booking and were the first to arrive at the restaurant, the person who looked after us said we could only keep it for an hour, and we were oh ok. Then a lot people showed up with no bookings, and weren’t told they only had an hour for the table. We were by the entrance so we could hear. Sadly we will not return again.

Have eaten here lots of times, both in the restaurant and on delivery. Always amazing, authentic food and great service. Order the chicken wings!!

Wow! I've walked past this place a few times, finally came in for a wonderful birthday dinner. Incredible Asian cuisine, great vibes from the space with an excellent open plan kitchen. Our waiter Karol was very helpful, answered all the questions I had and we were served very quickly. The food was gorgeous, with perfect portion sizes for the price, you'll leave here with a very happy belly :) Overall, Fantastic service, fantastic food. Will absolutely be coming again soon.

Lovely local Thai restaurant with good atmosphere. We booked a table for 4 on a week night and would recommend you pre book as many people were turned away. We had the prawn crackers, pad Thai, massaman curry, aubergine and stir fry. All the dishes were delicious and a good size with the exception of the aubergine which was slightly smaller than the rest. I agree with other reviews that the pad Thai is unnecessarily sweet but I still really enjoyed it. Service could be improved as the poor waiter was rushed off his feet. There was also an awful sewerage smell in the air perhaps from some plumbing issues.

Best service and the best taste pad Thai I have had. I had the chicken, sorry no photos, too good... he had pork, which was slow cooked, he said he drank the pork! So tender.

Nice, prompt service and a lively atmosphere with a good balance between kitchen, music, and jovial conversation. The food was quite nice, with good balance of spice and flavour. That said, this was on the rather expensive side of things which I can understand given the neighbourhood and cost of living crisis driven by an irresponsible and unstable Tory government. This is a restaurant we will be returning to, although will likely stick to just a couple of dishes and no drinks to maximise value.

Burning Rose was packed when I went with a friend on a Saturday night. The food was just average, it was quite rich and just not especially exciting. It was a shame. My friend also didn’t really rate her food. It was a nice atmosphere and a friendly greeting and the wine was nice.

This place is a gem: delicious cocktails, excellent service and the best Thai food in London. So many hidden treasures on the menu.

I don't really understand all the great reviews. We ordered two curries, both tasted of curry powder and slightly burnt. Who uses curry powder in Thai food?? Disappointing.

This is a really amazing Thai restaurant headed by the great Matt. The food is far superior to your average Thai witth subtle spicing and expert cooking. The best Thai fishcakes ever and totally different to the normal rubbery fare. The crispy whole fish looks and taste sensational. They have draught Singha beer which is a bonus as is their friendly professional service. We find it hard to stay away!

Absolutely loved our evening at Burning Rose! The food was absolutely incredible but the service made it extra special… we didn’t book so walked in on Friday expecting to be turned away. Instead the lovely host took us the last free table for 4 at the back of the restaurant where we had the pleasure of chatting to Matthew the head chef (it’s an open kitchen which is a fun touch if you sit at this table)… who was super welcoming and attentive - and very kindly gave us some special dishes to try as it was my partners birthday. We had such a fun evening, with some great food and drinks; all at a very reasonable price for the standard of food and overall experience. A real hidden gem in Balham and we will definitely be back, thank you

Gosh how delicious. The larb - yum! in particular and the fish with the herbs and sauce was fabulous. So great to have authentic Thai food and a pleasure to experience it cooked under such a kitchen superhero. We over ordered knowingly because the menu is so good we just greedily wanted it all. Highly recommend 💯

This is a special place. Tremendous food from one of the most renowned Thai chefs anywhere served by charming staff in a relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful fishcakes,Thai sausages and incredible sea bass were highlights. I think this is the best Thai food I havehad outside Thailand and even inside! An amazing place.

I’m quite confused reading those great reviews from other people. Sadly, my experience was different. Green curry was pretty bad, other meals were very average. We won’t come back

Food presentation is good but taste a bit sweet, northern thai curry feel a bit burn of currry powder, Duck salad was nice, grilled chicken ok but should not served with sweet chilli sauce as will make it too much sweet.

One of my favourite places to eat in Balham. I just wish they'd bring back the chicken satay, which was sublime

Went to this restaurant tonight ordered drink and food for four. Ordered pad Thai for 2 of us, neither of us could eat any. It was disgustingly sweet ( like syrup). As a Thai person it was insulting for the dish to be name “Pad Thai.” Very expensive and very disappointing. 👎👎👎

I know it was a hot day, but limited meal selection, my green curry wasn’t a good flavour, and many others in our party couldn’t get the meal they wanted, or wine. Service was good though. Second time I’ve been and been disappointed. Might try again in the future, hope I can update my review.

Overrated. I really wanted to like this, tried several times, but the pad thai is boring and way too sweet with too much tamarind sauce or sugar, the special sea bass curry was way too spicy I couldn't taste anything anymore (I love spicy food in Thailand so I'm used to very very spicy), the veggie curry was so-so and overall the menu is very meat-heavy with super limited choice for someone who doesn't eat meat and the occasional fish. Waiters are lovely but don't know anything about the menu - they always have to go ask someone..

First time and certainly won’t be the last. Excellent food, wonderful flavours, the dishes showed that the chefs cared.We were lucky to have wandered in on the soft launch of their new menu, everything was wonderful including the charming service. Highly recommend. A Thai like no other , knocks the spots off anything in the area…. Or dare I say London!

I’ve eaten at Burning Rose before being a Balham native. Unfortunately yesterday the green curry was totally tasteless and the beef curry was burnt. Extremely disappointed with their offering quite frankly having been there in the past. Starters and pad Thai were good though and waiters were polite.

This place is unreal! Easily the best Thai I’ve had in London, and possibly the best chicken pad Thai I’ve ever had… yep. It’s that good.

Went here for an evening meal with my gf. Had a Pad Thai and Nana's Aromatic Curry. Pad Thai was very nice but was a tad too sweet. Nana's curry was hot but delicious, and the portion of roti was decent. Overall the food was delicious. Service was slightly disorganised - got our mains, then our drinks, then our starter of spring rolls but the wait staff were lovely and very apologetic. When we asked for a doggy bag we were given a free portion of prawn crackers, which is ironic because we both ordered vegetarian dishes, but it's the thought that counts. Would recommend.

Ordered the Chiang mai noodles which were satisfying enough however the food doesn't taste as authentic as I would've liked. The service wasn't great and lacked attention i.e. waiter forgetting empty plate on table, getting attention for bill or extra drinks was too much effort. Atmosphere and setting are ok although a bit loud. Still had a good time! Good enough for young Balham hipsters maybe? Food 3/5 Service 2/5 Atmosphere 3.5/5

My partner had a meal here for her birthday with friends and she couldn't speak more highly of the staff, the service and the food. They prepared a beautiful fruit platter for her birthday which was such a lovely touch, can't thank you all enough! 🙏

Great food but the service was erratic. Got our starters in good time but then waited ages for the mains, two arrived and sat there getting cold and we had to go and ask the chef for the rest of our dishes.

The vegetable curry was tasteless and watered down. Tasted like it came from a packet as you could taste the powder grains. Sent it back and order vegetable stir fry which was good. Upon paying curry still on the bill along with service charge. Asked to remove service charge due to curry was told no. Will not return

Excellent food, music and cocktails

This restaurant is conveniently close to Balham overground and underground. The menu is comprehensive and the food is delicious. Simple decor, efficient service and sensible prices. You simply cannot go wrong.

Had a delivery this time having visited the restaurant in the past. My issue is you don’t get much for your money. If you’re paying £14 without rice for a chicken green curry you expect more than four or five small pieces of chicken. They...

Tremendous food and the service was quick and efficient. Staff were very helpful going through the menu and offering up opinions. Roti type bread was amazing and a must try. Beef dish equally good. Will go back if in the area.

Ordered a take out on 10/01/22 massamam curry… two pieces of beef and three half sweet potatoes which were not cooked through… so basically ate rice and sauce for £13.95+ Customer service was appalling Will not return and do not recommend this place EDIT Was contacted by the owner and was invited to come back and try the massamam again. It was nice and tasty and when my friend asked for a take out box for her her meal with rice, they added more rice and sauce to her box I’m glad I’ve given them a second chance and ate at the restaurant which is a nice place
