I have never seen Japanese style beef rice better than minced meat. It's mostly fishy, and I can't see the Japanese flavor at all. Then charge me £12.95

I have never been to a Japanese restaurant like this one before. It's unique! You order your food from a screen, it's prepared and you collect it. I had no problems finding a table. Overall I thought the food was tasty and authentic.

Good decor with modern ordering systems but the prices are too excessive for the local market. No wonder it is empty at lunch time. Ordered. I ordered Chicken Gyoza Chilli Udon and the portion was really small and when o asked if I can get some more noodles, I was told that it costs £3.5😱😱3.5 is the total food cost for the dish and they charge that amount for extra noodles. Astonishing!👎

Good food for a quick informal bite to eat. Basically a cross between Wagga mama and itsu. Canteen style dining. You order at a screen, hope for a seat if you're eating in, and collect at the counter once your order number has been called. Once finished you bring your plates to a shelf trolley, where they will be collected for washing.

I had a very unpleasant experience - ordered 2 Panko Fried Chicken Curry Udon and received no chicken in it. The refund I received was 4.14GBP per portion, so I ended up paying 20GBP for noodles plus delivery fees and no apology. I find that unacceptable and wouldn’t recommend.

Edit: I've had many great visits, but just a warning that sometimes the noodle might be accidentally overcooked. I went August 2024 and noticed that the noodles tasted very brittle and doughy. When I looked at the cooking area, it seemed that they had a bunch of baskets with noodles sitting over the boiling water, ready to cook. Except they weren't getting cooked immediately, and instead were being steamed while waiting. I think that's what caused the horrible noodle texture. If I notice them doing this in the future I'll go somewhere else. I'm here for the fresh noodles. Not pre-steamed, overcooked dough. Really nice and chewy udon. I think the basic kake is even better than the kamaage at mirugame. I'm so happy I don't have to go to central London now to get my fresh udon fix. The noodles are a bit thinner, which i think is fine - the portions are pretty good. I like the simple udon best (after all, I'm paying for the fresh noodle), but their curry or stir fry ones are good too. I would skip the fancier tempura or meat udons. Only downside is that the dishes are a bit more expensive. There's also no high chairs, which is a bit unusual in Ealing. For ordering, they really should have a "how to" sign like mirugame. It's not clear unless you've been to one of these types of restaurants before. You have to order your main on the tablet screen (skip everything except the udon is my suggestion), pick up any sides and drinks you want (skip the tempura if it's not freshly brought out. Or ask for fresh ones), and pay for everything at the counter. They'll call your number once it's ready and you can pick up your udon with any toppings or utensils. You have to ask if you need napkins. I've noticed this a couple times, but people come and get take away noodles sometimes. If you get udon here, DO NOT take it to go (unless you eat it in the park or somewhere nearby). Why go to the trouble of getting fresh noodle if you're not going to eat it fresh? These noodles are really meant to be eaten immediately after serving. There's no longer a long wait now that the free kake promotion is over (many of the people moaning about the long waits didn't mention it was for a free bowl of noodle...)

Their food is okayish but slightly overpriced and tempura are greasy. More importantly, the honesty and training of their staff is poor. My wife loves the place for their onigiri and we stopped for a quick bite at around 3pm on a seemingly pleasant Saturday afternoon. I was then tempted by the mini bowls (curry and broth udon), which to my surprise were much bigger than anticipated. Upon enquiring about the size of my bowls to the staff, the cashier replied that her colleague made a mistake by serving bigger portions. Although I was not too hungry and dislike wasting food, I decided to let it slide. After payment, I realised that the cashier mistakenly took a pumpkin croquette for a panko chicken and charged me accordingly. I asked for a refund of the difference after the staff offered me to apply a discount on additional food I would buy, which I declined as I was not that hungry. The staff then proposed to refund the panko chicken and charge for a pumpkin croquette instead. The cashier and her colleague exchanged in their native language and proceeded with what I thought was a very complicated refund process! Later on, while slurping my udon, I realised that my pending bank transactions and receipts did not show a refund but two additional charges. Instead of refunding me, they charged me twice (£5.30 more)!!! I couldn't really enjoy my pumpkin udon after that and went to inquire... again. One of the extrovert waitresses came to the rescue and assured me that the refund was applied in their system and that receipts for refund looked like normal receipts...she told me to wait 24 hours for my bank to update the status of the transactions... One hour later, while leaving Ealing Broadway I casually checked my bank transactions. Surprise! The status of the transactions were updated as charges and not refunds!!! I went back to the restaurant to inquire...again!!! It seemed as if the previous shift had finished by then, as the extrovert-overly-confident waitress was not at the tilt anymore. Thank goodness for that! I explained the situation to her colleague who witnessed the previous exchange anyway and she acknowledged that her colleague had made a mistake. She proceeded to correctly refund the two additional charges but, while she profusely apologised for the mistake, she failed to refund me the 30-cent difference between the panko chicken and the pumpkin croquette, or to propose any compensation for my troubles. While 30 cents may not seem much, expecting cashiers to be able to correctly identify their food items and apply refunds, should, I believe be a reasonable expectation. Yet, what really bothers me here, is the fraudulent claim from the extrovert-overly-confident staff that the item appeared as refunded on their system and that the two receipts were normal receipts. Clearly they were not!!! I am not going back there anymore but if you do, check your receipt and do inquire a lot!

Just discovered this restaurant, perfect for a quick lunch / dinner. Love that when you walk through the doors the first thing you see is the kitchen and the chefs making fresh udon noodles. I had the spicy chicken udon which was good. You order on the screens and pay at the till. It’s about £10-12 for a main. The complimentary chili oil and spring onion was a great touch. Superb food, perfect for lunch, or a pick me up that is tasty & healthy(ish). It represents good value and is exceptionally clean and in the Japanese tradition of customer service. The food is tasty fresh and taste different to the mass produced food that one can get used to. It just taste great. The chilli oil and spring onions available is a super touch facilitating the communal table with friends. The digital ordering is easy and clear allowing you a range of choice and getting the food to you quickly. It works. I would recommend, stop by and enjoy this restaurant. What could! be improved? 1. Toilets are not available in the restaurant but have to be found within the mall. 2. Hand wipes to clean hands could be provided with the meal prior to support customer hygiene. 3. The ventilation needs to be improved as you can leave the restaurant with the strong scent of the freshly cooked food over all of your clothes.

Kineya Mugimaru is a unique Japanese dining experience that blends traditional flavors with a modern, almost self-serving concept. Situated conveniently for both locals and visitors, this restaurant offers a streamlined dining experience centered around udon noodles. Upon entering Kineya Mugimaru, you're greeted by a clean, minimalist decor that reflects the simplicity and elegance of Japanese aesthetics. The ambiance is casual yet inviting, making it suitable for a quick meal or a relaxed dining experience. The ordering process is straightforward and efficient. Customers queue up at the counter, where they can watch the chefs skillfully prepare fresh udon noodles. The selection of udon dishes is impressive, catering to various tastes with options ranging from classic kitsune udon to more adventurous varieties like curry udon. The ingredients are fresh, and the flavors are authentic, providing a true taste of Japan. After selecting your main dish, you proceed to a self-serve tempura bar. Here, you can choose from an array of freshly fried tempura items, including shrimp, vegetables, and seasonal specialties. This aspect of the restaurant adds a fun, interactive element to the dining experience, allowing you to customize your meal according to your preferences. One of the highlights of Kineya Mugimaru is the attention to detail in their food preparation. The udon noodles are perfectly cooked to achieve the right balance of chewiness and softness, and the broths are rich and flavorful without being overpowering. The tempura is consistently crispy and light, complementing the udon perfectly. The self-serve nature of the restaurant extends to the condiments and garnishes area, where you can add toppings like green onions, tempura flakes, and various sauces to enhance your dish further. This level of customization ensures that every meal can be tailored to individual tastes. Service at Kineya Mugimaru is efficient and friendly. While the concept minimizes direct interaction with staff, the team is always on hand to assist with any queries or special requests. The restaurant is also well-maintained, with prompt cleaning and a welcoming atmosphere. In summary, Kineya Mugimaru offers a delightful fusion of traditional Japanese cuisine and modern dining convenience. Its almost self-serving model not only speeds up the dining process but also provides a personalized touch to every meal. Whether you're a udon aficionado or a first-time visitor, Kineya Mugimaru promises a satisfying and memorable culinary experience.

I was here when this restaurant first opened, initially the food was too bland to my liking. I recently (June 2024) had a chance to revisit and I'm pleased to learn that it has improved, I'd happily come back here for more udon. With that said, some of the peripherals are still not great. The staff all looked like they weren't paid enough to care, they all gave off an i-don't-want-to-be-here vibe which made me question if I should too. Their order system also needs a lot of refinement, self-service ordering is fine but why does that machine not take payment? Collection method is also not great with a staff shouting out numbers like it was at McDonald's. That just took away from the experience despite having a smart looking store front.

Service was very quick and the food was really fresh, I really enjoyed the food and would come back again. The price was £13.40 for this meal and a bottle of water what is on the higher side for this type of food but the quality was above average. One thing I did notice having never been here before was how to order could come across complicated for a new person. You have to order on a screen, then you can help yourselves to sides and drinks and then go to the till and pay. Then they call your number when your meal is done. Located at the entrance of the Ealing Broadway shopping area, the restaurant is very easy to find because it is right next to the intersection. There is a large glass door at the entrance, so you can watch the chef preparing their udon delicacies. After entering, you need to find a seat by yourself. The store is not very big, so it is recommended to spend some time finding a spot and go there early. Their ordering process is to first order staple food or other drinks on the electronic screen, then go to the middle to pick up some fried food, or some rice balls next to it, and finally go to the checkout, and they will call your number to pick up the food. . The food is authentic Japanese udon. It tastes very delicious. It is very suitable for a family to eat here. The most noteworthy thing is that its price is very popular. If you want to find a good Japanese restaurant, this is it. We will come here again. It's worth recommending.

What could be the worst possible kind of food? Deep-fried food that is cold, stale, and greasy. Exactly what I had at Kineya Mugimaru Ealing Broadway tonight. The design is problematic to begin with as the crowd congregated at the entrance took too long to order their udons from the flat screens. We had to sit down first to wait for the crowd to clear. We then ordered and picked the deep-fried stuff from the trays. But apparently the kitchen staff could not catch up with the number of orders. By the time we got our udons, we already finished half of our deep-fried dishes. But the deep-fried stuff was disgusting. Deep-fried food MUST be served hot! Ours was cold, stale, and greasy. The prawn tempura was impossible to eat. The tempura batter was hard, cold, and thick, so terrible that I had to remove it so that I won’t waste the shrimp (which was cold). Maybe it was our bad luck as I did see staff refreshing the deep-fried trays. But whatever it was, the light etc was not enough to at least keep the deep fried stuff warm. The udon noodles had good texture, however, but they were not properly cooked (maybe my bad luck again). There was a band of udons that was not thoroughly cooked and got stuck together. I had to get rid of it. And the soup had a funny after taste. We both got really thirsty afterwards. Our conclusion was that there was too much MSG (I thought MSG didn’t exist any more!). Very disappointed. For the amount of money we spent (£39 for 2), it was not worth it (I cook better udons at home). Won’t be coming back.

The idea of this place is great, and the menu looks nice when you look at it on the ordering pad. However, the food is sitting buffet style and is cold; the main meals are literally rice, curry sauce and whatever is on the buffet. Was slightly concerned about leaving chicken out there for a long time. The portions were extremely large and extremely greasy – everything was deep-fried. I left feeling a little bit sick-a feeling that stayed with me until the following day. Fruit flies were all over our table and the restaurant – I’m not really sure where they came from since they didn’t serve fruit and I didn’t see a dessert menu. Didn’t really make me feel like the place was very hygienic. Really unhealthy and really heavy. Not my favourite place.

Very good noodles and execution of this Japanese concept, however priced are around 15-20% too high. I felt the price stung particularly due to it being lunch time and there being no mid-day discount. £20 for lunch just felt a little too steep.

not bad at all, but felt a little overpriced and not quite as on point as Marugame Udon - would pop back in again for a cheeky prawn tempura but will probably avoid getting Udon again here

The food was good, but the ordering/queuing system is chaotic. It is very confusing whether it is a restaurant or a food court style shop. You order from the machine but you can’t pay there. You will get a receipt with a total price and an order number. Then somehow there are a bunch of tempera on the way going to the cashier, so can you grab them or not? Then you paid. You were expected to find a seat after paying, and listen sharply to them calling out your order number. You may just miss the number because of the loud music. Very chaotic. Please improve the ordering system.

Not impressed at all. I thought it was much better. Food was kind of already made. I had Beef Rice, it was meh. Coke was warm so I asked for a glass with ice but they don’t have ice lol Fair enough but at least then have cold drinks in stock. Not good money for what they offer. Good points it looks clean and modern.

As a frequent patron of Kineya Mugimaru's Ealing Branch, I can confidently vouch for the consistently outstanding dining experiences they provide. This spot offers not only a cozy atmosphere but also an incredibly accommodating staff and an array of delectable vegan options that have turned it into my culinary sanctuary. One of my absolute must-have dishes at Kineya Mugimaru is the Udon Curry with Pumpkin Katsu. The secret ingredient to its perfection? The chefs were kind enough to indulge my request to use the thicker, richer rice curry sauce instead of the standard, thinner version typically reserved for Udon dishes. The result is a divine blend of flavors and textures that keeps me coming back for more. And let's not forget the Yaki Udon - a stir-fried sensation that dances on the palate. Kineya Mugimaru truly shines in its dedication to offering a variety of plant-based dishes that cater to diverse preferences. The vibrant flavors and impeccable presentation make every dish a culinary masterpiece. Now, here's a forward-thinking idea: I'd like to propose a potential star for their menu - the Pumpkin Katsudon. Picture this: the same crispy pumpkin katsu featured in the Udon Curry, perched atop a bed of fluffy rice, immersed in a savory, slightly sweet sauce with onions, and crowned with a perfectly cooked egg (or a vegan alternative). This fusion of flavors and textures has the potential to become a true sensation. Plus I think it'll fill you right up especially with the egg and rice as a source of protein and carbs To add a personal touch to my dining experience, I often take advantage of the side of chili oil provided and drizzle it onto my curry. This extra kick of heat and flavor enhancement further elevates the dish, taking it to a whole new level. In summary, Kineya Mugimaru's Ealing Branch is a haven for both Japanese cuisine enthusiasts and vegans, all wrapped in a modern dining experience. Whether you're savoring the Udon Curry with its custom curry twist, indulging in the Yaki Udon, or exploring their diverse vegan options, it's a culinary journey that keeps you craving more. And let's not forget their willingness to adapt and customize dishes to your liking, which adds an extra layer of excellence to the overall experience. Don't miss the chance to be among the first to savor the future star, the Pumpkin Katsudon, on your next visit, and don't forget to spice it up with a drizzle of their delightful chili oil for an extra burst of flavor!
