Best carbonara I have ever had & staff are so lovely

Fantastic restaurant. I had mussels and king prawns to start. All was fresh produce and tasted delicious. For main I had a Pitzianti pizza which was fantastic. Freshly made dough, creamy cheese, tasty tomato sauce and spicy salami on top. Wonderful service throughout and a great price for the bill. I can’t wait to go back. I would highly recommend.

First visit but will be back. Small cosy place out of town with friendly service. The food was very good. Just disappointed that they had run out of tiramisu!

This is the best Italian that I have had in UK so far. My family and I have been back many times since we found the place two years ago. We love everything on the menu and would recommend Bojournal to anyone that loves Italian cuisine

The seafood is amazing. We had the seafood combo with sea bream , mussel and prawn. Very delicious and definitely will come back again .

Overrated food (and suspicious money handling ?) I went to this restaurant with high expectations based on the comments even if it was 1h walk from my house. I ordered in take away a "Ortalana" described as a "Mixed Vegetables". When I arrived, they give me the pizza box without showing me what was inside and asked me to pay by cash. I had to negociate to pay by card. I finally left with my box and arrived at home I discoverd that there was cheese everywhere on the pizza while it wasn't mentionned anywhere (contrary to the other pizza) which is really annoying for vegan people (like me) or lactose allergic one. I removed the cheese and the taste of the pizza was finally okay but does not worth AT ALL all the enthousiasm, it was really basic.

OMG this place is a gem. Fantastic food and personal service. Authentic Italian food. Best restaurant experience I have had all year.

Amazing little Italian first time here, atmosphere was cosy and relaxed the Bruschetta the best I've eaten in the uk, garlic bread unreal its base light airy and crispy. Mini meatballs soaked overnight were sublime and my lady's spinach and ricotta pasta was quite rich but tasty and very filling, the chocolate madness dessert was 🤤 will be attending a lot more 👌🏽

Amazing Italian Seafood! We had such a wonderful experience yesterday! We had pasta, pizza and the famous 'Fish Madness' for 2 seafood miracle. The mussels were nice, big and tasty, the fish was so delicious. The pizza is real proper Italian style one and just perfectly balanced. My son had a carbonara that also great: rich and enticing.

So quirky in its location and fantastic economy/ DIY decor. Absolutely charming. The authentic food quality and ambiance are delightful A great find just 11 miles from home and perfect for a warm September evening celebration. We were will persist until we succeed in obtaining a repeat booking later this year 😊

Lovely venue, lovely ambience, fab food and very attentive service.

Given the rave reviews, I thought I would book a table as a treat for me and my wife. We both came away feeling a little underwhelmed. The service was quick but the rest of the experience felt very average which was disappointing.

Eccellente! Buongiorno serves Italian food prepared by Italians who obviously love what they are doing. They provide a perfect level of service - welcoming and knowledgeable, and quick. Their food is very fresh, and lovingly prepared. (Best mussels I have had. Ever. And the pasta - so good.) It is one of those places where each table of guests is sharing with other tables how good their meal is. We plan on stopping by every time we visit York. (Plenty of parking, too.)

Wow what an amazing place this is. The food was perfect the best I have ever eaten at an Italian restaurant. The service was attentive. The reviews from other customers are testament to the quality of both. I can't wait to come back again!!!!

Wow. You HAVE to try this place! It doesn’t look much from the outside but my goodness it was an incredible meal. I had the fish special, can’t remember which fish - I just know that it was delightful. I am used to having my fish boned at the table, but the owners honesty was so admirable - they are small and busy. Instead, he taught me in ten seconds the easy pro tip to doing it myself. So not only was it delicious, I learned something too! I loved the passion and authenticity of the owner. It really transported me to Sicily. What a wonderful hidden gem. If this was in central York, there would be queues around the block (iykyk). We tried the recommended wine as well and it was so nice to try something new. Top tip: ask for the recommendation and go for it! 100% will come back next time I am in York.

Fantastic food and amazing staff

Recommended to this restaurant & it certainly didn’t disappoint! My husband had a seafood spaghetti, I had ragu with three slow cooked meats. We also enjoyed two amazing desserts& fabulous Sardinian wine. Just had to book again for a couple of weeks time & cannot wait. x

Took our two grandchildren 12 & 14. Everything was delicious. I had black pasta with langoustine, new to me but tasty (not on menu). Also carbonaro, mushroom risotto and a fabulous pizza for my grandson. Lovely ice cream & lemoncello tart. Great beer, though expensive. Lovely service and atmosphere in the place - best Italian I’ve ever had.

Imy family and myself went to this restaurant for my birthday. We had my two grandchildren. The food was out of this world. My grandchildren of whom are 10,months and two of were catered for. I have to say that my 2, year old grandson wolfed his garlic bread and sphagettie bolognaise down. He really enjoyed it. The service was amazing and in his words I am here for you. If you haven't tried this restaurant, you truly are missing some amazing food and service. It is worth 10stars!

The restaurant is cute inside, but the food we ordered didn't seem to have any flavour. I was very surprised by this having seen the positive reviews. I went back again in case it was a one-off, but the food was still lacking in flavour.

This restaurant is such a little gem, hidden away in a housing estate. The food, wine and service were excellent and we will definitely be back again. High point was pasta with slow cooked pork, beef and lamb, it was delicious!!

An amazing discovery! We would never have expected to find such wonderful food in a little place tucked away in an anonymous row of shops, but don't be fooled by appearances. You might go in, see the laminated menus with standard Italian dishes and think that this is an OK place for a quick bite to eat, but then Daniele will explain that the chalkboard above the counter has the real Sardinian specialities, and immediately you're in a place where they love their food and they will make sure that you love it too. I went there on my birthday, and in 50+ years of eating Italian and "Italian inspired" dishes, I have never experienced such rich flavours and beautiful combinations of tastes. Given a choice between any of York's pricey high-end eateries and this place, I'd choose Sardinian every time.

Extremely cosy atmosphere, quite small place and staff very warm and knowledgeable about their menu. The ratio quality/price was amazing, very impressed by the level of detail of the cooking, you can't go wrong with any pasta dish, or pizza. Good selection of sardinian wines as well, worth mentioning I'm Italian, you really get a good feel of Italy/Sardinian cuisine.

Yet another great meal in a great restaurant great service and on my doorstep!! Lovely fillet steak and the special surf and turf out of this world. We will be back again.

Amazing seafood starters and pasta, velvety smooth pasta, felt as though it was melting in the mouth. A hidden gem away from the city centre, but 100% worth the journey!

We have been a few times now and never been disappointed. The menu has great choice with traditional variations of the more staple italian dishes and superb specials. It is fresh, great value for money and the staff are very friendly with an authentic native bistro vibe. We will definitely be back again.

I am somewhat reluctant to write a review as clearly negative comment is not taken on board, and is cynically responded to. My experience does not reflect some of the excellent reviews on here. l found the food rather average, the special's expensive and the beer extortionate..(£8.00 for a £2.00 bottle of beer).l also have to comment on the totally inadequate toilet facilities.... especially Post pandemic..... I realise there will be a backlash from this review but can't not comment on my findings.

Oh my goodness! What a little hidden gem this is. What fabulous food - the sharing cold meat platter was quality, the risotto funghi was to die for. The lasagna even rivalled mine! The wine was so smooth and the service even smoother. What an absolutely fabulous evening with great company and superb service. Highly recommended.

This was a chance opportunity to eat out, but at a very local venue on an early evening midweek walk out. What a surprise! A very busy little Sardinian bistro! A lovely space, really friendly easygoing service and simply delicious food. There was a good range of stable fare of pasta and pizza, plus a large specials board. I plumbed for something simple - lasagne. A good sized serving, with ample rich tomato sauce and delicious pasta. Dessert, tortalimone, was just as good, beautifully presented, with a lovely delicate texture and light lemon taste. Price wise, I'd say it was good value for money. Generally a lovely experience. We'll be going back.

Absolutely the best night 15 of us snd all our food served at the same time drinks served together . The food was delicious every one of us enjoyed their meal we had 5 children with us and everyone of them finished their plate . Will definitely be going back . Thankyou

Very poor experience , first of all ordered a diet coke they came in cans And a glass that would be fitting in a canteen with no ice served . I looked at the waiter in shock , said they are warm he replied we don't put them in the fridge, I then asked for ice , he brought back one of the 4 inch canteen glasses to share between the three of us . Having looked at the bill after he definitely knew how to charge for the warm cans at £10.50 for three. A very bad start . Starters and mains were poor at a very high price. Never Again would I go back . The quality of italian cuisine in York must have seriously gone down hill ,looking at the ratings for this place . Easily the worst italian food iv had. lacked the romantic ambience and atmosphere iv come to expect when visiting an authentic italian restaurant . Poor service , poor waiter . The owner I assume, did appear to be nice and welcoming , unfortunately we got stuck with the waiter who thought he was doing us a favour by serving us . Fine so why charge £3.50 for warm can of diet Coke? Why not tell us about the fridge issue ? . You dumped them down , brought ice as if it was gold, only after being asked. The food was poor for the price and had I not eaten the remains of my mum's pizza I'd have left hungry . To ask for pineapple as an extra is not something for you to mock . Your poor attitude stands out in your response . Had I not been with my elderly parents I'd have told you straight in front of your other guests. Not my problem your fridge is faulty , it's your problem to fix , especially charging those prices , annoyed me from the word go tbh . The veg on the pizza I would think was tinned, it certainly didn't taste fresh. You should take criticism on board . Im not writing this for any other reason than to inform you , so no other customer has a bad experience. Also get some tall glasses suitable for a restaurant , and bin the children's canteen glasses!.Also English mustard is enjoyed all over the world , had the steak been seasoned properly before cooking ,I wouldn't have asked . Hidden gem great food :) easy to find and parking

OK so for me this place was a great little find I don't give lots of 5 stars but if your looking for that real Italian restaurant feeing here it is. Service was mellow no rush beer served with ice cold tall glass ... food was cooked with attitude and typical Italian passion. I have eaten Italian food all over Italy for many years and here is exactly 💯% that same feeling ... I picked the easy dishes no frills they were cooked to perfection and believe me they are the hardest to get correct .... my partners the same she loved the scallops for starter this dish was not on the menu just a request to the chef for something different wow nailed it .... all fresh ingredients great food.... thanks guys for a great meal and service we will definitely be back to sample the menu and ambience.... BELLISSIMO....

So lucky to live just around the corner from this fantastic little restaurant. The food is absolutely outstanding and portion sizes are perfect. If you get a chance to go, you must try the tirramisu, it is the best.

We were very lucky to get in as they had just turned people away. Luckily somebody left as we arrived and there were only two of us. Very friendly. Food was very tasty and we could see why it is so highly regarded. The best we have eaten in a while. We hope to return when next in York.

We came for a date night at Buongiorno and it was so good we came back again 3 nights later! Amazing food and lovely staff :) would highly recommend!

Food fantastic home made Italian food

Fantastic as always at this fantastic restaurant. Will always recommend and even though we are almost part of the furniture, the service is great, food delicious and always made to feel special.

This is my absolute favorite Italian Restaurant! Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in York. The restaurant is beautiful, cozy and you can also enjoy good music at the right volume. The staff are very efficient, cheerful, polite, friendly and truly cares about your experience. They know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about, and you can tell that making the costumers happy is their main priority. The food is always fantastic and no matter what I order I am always delighted with my meal! This time I ate a traditional Sardinian pasta with beef, lamb and pork slow cooked ragu’ finished with creamy pecorino cheese. Outstanding authentic Sardinian pasta. The meat it was delicious and super tender. The taste combination of the excelente ragu sauce with pecorino cheese really blew my mind! I asked for beer and I was served with an excellent Italian premium lager. Can’t wait to return and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to eat in York. Love this place!

Absolutely excellent! My parents were visiting me in York and we found this hidden gem. The food was beyond amazing, the seafood being very fresh and everything was cooked beautifully. Dessert was delicious, and staff were great. The whole atmosphere was really nice, we’ll definitely be visiting again!

Great little place, attention to detail. Different from the Italians I've previously been to in that it's a reflection of Sardinian cuisine. Very nice. Its only a small venue so you need to book and pay a deposit. Too many people book and don't turn up hence the deposit.

After ordering for pick up 3 times in the past year, my wife & I decided to make Buongiorno's our first sit down meal out in quite some time. The food was perfect & reasonably priced. We had three courses and all was presented immaculately. The atmosphere was warm, friendly and happy with a full restaurant of like minded happy customers that seemed as pleased/impressed as us. A local gem that we will be frequenting more - the team have done a great job. I've lived in York for 40 years and have not found this level of quality in the city centre or anywhere in York for Italian food.

The delicious food surpassed our expectations. The servers were knowledgeable, charming and attentive. This was a wonderful experience for us, because we are unfamiliar with Sicilian gourmet dining, and now we are very keen to try more and learn more about it. The flavours were rich in umami, fresh, and delightful for every bite. By the end of this memorable birthday dinner, we were floating on cloud nine. Thank you so very much!
