Just had to be done while in Harrogate. Although there was a queue didn’t have to wait too long for a table. Had the delicious fat rascal and Bettys tea. Absolutely delicious. Service is excellent and staff amazing . It’s like watching a ballet the way they move around seamlessly. There is a shop too if you haven’t the time to stop.

This was my second visit (previously York in 2017). Beautiful decor, peaceful atmosphere and helpful staff. A very good way to begin my weekend visit to Harrogate and an ideal stop after five hours of driving. I will definitely visit your tea rooms again at whatever location.

Visited Betty’s in York over a decade ago, and only just realized this is the original location. Service was excellent—warm and attentive without being overly formal. The food was fresh and decent, though nothing particularly outstanding in terms of flavor. Still, the non-reservation queue downstairs was packed with people waiting to get in. If you’re a fan of Darjeeling tea, this place is definitely worth a visit.

Despite the fact that the day was cold and rainy, we had to stand in line for a while waiting for the tea room. For me, it was very fleeting. And I was pleased with the breakfast, as the food was fresh, the presentation of the dishes was very exquisite, it was obvious that it was prepared with love. All the staff were very polite and friendly. waiters. even though I had a misunderstanding in the order, they changed my order without any problems. I have visited different establishments throughout the UK, but I can say that this tea room is the best I could only visit. A very beautiful clean and tidy place with rare handmade paintings made of wood. It is worth visiting this place just for this art, I was absolutely delighted!

Visited Easter Sunday and it was busy at to be expected for a Harrogate institution. Excellent service from a friendly and knowledgeable waiter with finest Darjeeling and teacake turned out to be a lovely end to a day out. As ever with this level of quality expect to queue.

Enjoyed a lovely breakfast muffin with scrambled egg & a delicious decaf pot of tea. The waiting staff were very pleasant & attentive. This was our first time in the cafe & thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Will definitely be back but for a cream tea next time.

Lovely experience, highlighted by superb service from James. My friend who is vegetarian and wheat intolerant had her allergy and food choice battered for with some fresh sandwiches and super sweet cakes. Some very special tea and coffee choices were available to accompany the lovely food. It was a special celebration for us making it very memorable.

I would highly recommend a visit to this cafe when in Harrogate. The staff are fantastic, very friendly and the food was also fabulous. Be prepared, you might have a bit of a wait but it is well worth it.

The experience was perfect. We had to queue but only fur 15 minutes and it shows how popular Bettys is. Service was efficient and professional. The food was outstanding including kedgeree that was amazing. The cost was also competitive. The shop had an amazing range of top quality products and we purchased Macarons and scones

Had cup of tea was lovely had cake but cream was off I eat cake anyway to be polite then five minutes later I get severe cramps and the shits and had to run to the toilets I didn’t make it and ruined my white trousers so I am not happy and I will not be going back and I’ll stick to my faithful Greggs.

It feels very iconic to be here. A few months ago, I had stumbled upon a book on Betty’s and casually finding the cafe when you’re travelling. Yup, I’m happy. I was excited initially standing in the queue but since we were a big group and short on time we moved to the bakery shop section instead. We had taken out Swiss Chocolate Torte, Gooey Rascal Scones, and a cup of Hot Chocolate. The Hot Chocolate was very Swiss, rich and smooth. Gooey Rascal was something different from other scones that we had and it was wonderful to discover chocolate chips and scones together. Coming to the Torte, loved the chocolate ganache on top, we felt the base was dry to have it by itself but we still liked it. All the people here are lovely. There’s a warm smile on everyone’s faces which I absolutely love.

overrated much better alternatives

We did not have a booking but we were ushered in at once no queues. After being seated took an age to be acknowledged, one male waiter quite busy,several female waitresses hanging about. Ordered a Yorkshire Cream Tea. The scones were the worst I have eaten, hard and crumbly and almost fridge cold. When asked, the waiter stated it is normal to serve them cold, though most reliable opinions state warm. The jam was tasteless no texture was really sachet standard. Water arrived after second request. Tried to catch attention of staff to pay the bill, but all seemed oblivious to their customers. Bill arrived waiter started to educate me to the way of gratuity, I stated there would not be any as service was not exceptional. Had been so looking forward to a good experience at Betty’s but it was so underwhelming. Were we there on a bad day?🤷‍♀️

First time having afternoon tea, and it was delicious! Unlimited sandwich coffee and tea. A little bit pricey in the private suite but it was a birthday occasion and we were treated very well by a lovely lady! Definitely to try.

Had a accessibility booking made at 1:30 pm which we had to have downstairs within the walk-in. Suzanna the queue manager was exceptional helpful and accommodating to me and my mum (mother's day visit) and was exceptional helpful in getting us comfortable. The table that was arranged was perfect in regards to space for a wheelchair user and we were very comfortable. The other staff we met were very helpful in regards to making sure my mum was comfortable during our visit.

Heard so much about this place, so had to visit! If you make a reservation, you are seated in the stylish imperial suite, however if you don't, you will be asked to wait in a queue outside to await a table in the cafe downstairs. There is also a shop where you can buy items to go. I was in the imperial suite and the whole experience was amazing. I was seated quickly and it was quite busy. The staff were friendly, professional and helpful. You can try as many teas as you want and the sandwiches are replenished on request. They were quite delicious, however the scones were amazing, light and flaky. I then took the cakes to go as I was quite full. When I had them later, they also tasted wonderful. It really felt like a quintessential English afternoon tea and beat every London one I have been too hands down.

Enjoyed my Fat Rascal but the tea was let down by the sugar coming in lump format (the devils work)! Not great for an establishment that surely wants you to enjoy your tea as you like it. Imagine if you like a little sugar but there is not a lump the right size. Just provide granulated sugar!!!

A really lovely meal to celebrate Mother’s Day. The food and atmosphere were both fantastic. We had a great server called Tom who was very attentive without being overbearing!

Overpriced mediocre service station fare.

Bettys Cafe Tearoom Bar is an institution. People come from far to experience the old fashioned service and excellent quality of their products. It is normal to see a long queue outside of people waiting for a table. As former York residents, we have visited Bettys in York many times and know what to expect. We were early yesterday and there were still a few empty tables. A very friendly lady with a warm smile "handed" us over to another lovely lady who showed us to our table. Our expectation of Bettys was already met. However, it soon went downhill. Within one minute after we had taken off our coats and sat down, a waitress came over and asked if we were ready to order. Her mannerism was anything but what we expect from Bettys. She was polite but nothing more. The best way to describe her would be "unfriendly and miserable". We told her that we need more time, then ordered tea, coffee, cakes. My second cup of coffee took at least 8 minutes to arrive. Whilst I drank my coffee, the waitress turned up, asked us if we wanted to order anything else and, when we said we didn't, she then immediately reappeared with the bill. She did mention the obligatory "No rush" of course. The way she handled it all didn't help. Outside was a queue. For a waitress to try to push clients out of a venue (on her own account or ordered) because people are waiting outside - in our case whilst I have not even finished my coffee - is out of order. She may have said "No rush" but it is just totally wrong. Beautiful Mocha coffee, beautiful cakes but still a bad taste after the visit.

Bettys Café Tea Rooms in Harrogate are known for their iconic treats like Fat Rascal Scones, Fondant Fancies and Florentines, as well as a range of tea's, Coffees, Cakes, biscuits and other specialities. In addition to that they offer a variety of Cakes, at Bettys Café Tea Rooms including Yorkshire Strawberry Fondant Fancies, Spring Bluebells Cake, Victoria Sponge Cake, Raspberry and Vanilla Loaf Cake and Swiss Chocolate Loaf Cake as well. The Earl Grey Tea at this Exceptionally Beautiful and Charming and Glorious Café is very nice and Beautiful indeed. All of the Staff whom work at this Exceptionally Beautiful and Charming Café in Harrogate themselves are all Extremely lovely people towards everybody including myself. In addition to that at Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms is also famous for the experience which is enhanced by live piano music, adding to the sense of occasion and creating a charming ambiance. I would definitely recommend everybody to come and enjoy themselves at Bettys Café Tea Rooms in Harrogate which is Extremely Popular with everybody including myself.

It deserves its legendary status. Sultana scones are amazing! You have to queue but it's so worth it.

Incredible carrot cake at Betty’s, the service is amazing and so is the coffee. We bought some cherry fancies to take away - as expected they were delicious - these need to stay, so good.

My girlfriend and I went for lunch and it was fabulous. I had smoked haddock gratin, and she had the Betty's Burger with Fountains Gold cheese from Wensleydale. We followed with sundaes. We queued for about 5 minutes however the queue was longer after we left. Do not miss this experience.

Lovely service, well-trained and pleasant staff. When you make a reservation you will be seated in the 1st floor where the interiors are more plush. You can ask to be seated by the table where you’ll have a lovely view of the park. Tea, sandwiches, and scones are refillable just like in most hotel afternoon tea offerings in London. The desserts are very decadent and definitely worth the price tag.

A weekend away in Harrogate isn’t complete without visiting Betty’s . Yes it’s expensive, but it’s a treasure of a place with lots of history and wonderful baking skills. It’s worth paying the bit extra, so go and enjoy !

A bit over rated really. Lovely cakes but much smaller than you get elsewhere but for the same price. Try some of the local independent cafes instead. The queue of 20 minutes to get in just is not justified by the food - plus you are all packed in.

What a lovely surprise for my 50th . The afternoon tea was beautiful and delicious .

We went as a birthday celebration, the whole experience was just wonderful and both service and the food was of a high standard. The only thing that could be improved is if you could book a table in advance. I’d love to take my mum to Betty’s but she is a wheelchair user and waiting out in the cold is the only thing stopping me from bringing her.

Always a 5/5 for this establishment. They serve the best tea, the best food and have the most politest waiting service around. Surrounded my opulence and an immaculately styled interior typically Georgian, this tea room can only be loved. Be prepared to spend money because it isn’t cheap, but it’s worth every penny.

Excellent , an unexpected treat. My wife and I were in Harrogate for a couple of days and stumbled on the Teas . out for a walk in the afternoon. We could see there were a few empty tables so decided to go.The staff were excellent and very polite . Coffee and a bun each. Then we bought some treats for the grandchildren and a loaf of bread in the bakery in the same building. Overall, it was an excellent experience

First time visiting Betty’s and everything from the services to each individual item was just gorgeous! The flavours and creativity to the petite sweet treats were delightful! The sandwiches were understandably moreish and filling. The scones were soft and mouth watering to say the least. We tried a variety of teas, all of which were delicious with each node of the fresh flavours coming through with every sip. Lastly Lawrence was very charming and attentive with his polite and approachable manner made the visit even more enjoyable. Lawrence had some excellent recommendations for the variety of Teas, displaying his vast knowledge of the selection available. We most definitely be making the trip to Betty’s in Harrogate again soon.

Afternoon tea for 2 x 50th birthday celebrations. Amazing experience made by the staff (Ann & Karen), quality & quantity of the afternoon tea. Ann & Karen couldn't do more for us to make it special. Lovely room which was intimate. It was fanrastic.

Of course we had to make the trip to the famous Betty's tea room, but unfortunately I found it lacking. The fat rascals we had were unique and quite tasty, with the chocolate one being a highlight. However, the staff were so incredibly rude I could not fully enjoy my cakes. Considering we were not dining in, this was impressive! We waited to be served for an absolute age, before a local member of the public cut in front of us and placed her order. The staff did not bother to correct this, even after I highlighted we were next and did not apologise either. This was the only place in York where I was made to feel unwelcome. I felt dismissed by the staff, with a presumption that I wasn't going to spend any money here, so other customers were prioritised.

Gosh! what an amazing place. Celebrated 30th wedding anniversary with an afternoon tea. Best we have ever had!

Afternoon tea in the Imperial room was booked to celebrate my birthday. Have had afternoon tea before but not the bookable one. Different menu, pianist, atmosphere all make it worth the extra price. Service is the same high quality that you find in the main cafe /restaurant.

I have been coming to Bettys for over 50 years and it never disappoints. I visited today with my friend for a pre-birthday meal. Our waitress was sweet and could not have been more helpful and the food was, as ever, first class.

I went for afternoon tea this weekend and was served by the wonderful Lawrence/Laurence in the imperial tea rooms. The food was brilliant and the service was unparalleled, befitting such a historic institution. I look forward to going back next time I'm in Harrogate. Well done to him and the Betty's team!

The wife and I have wanted to visit a Betty’s for a long time. Generally the queues put us off. However, we managed to miss the rush, and were seated by the windows for breakfast. Can highly recommend and will certainly revisit.

We had a lovely afternoon tea in the Imperial room and were well looked after by Karen, she was amazing. We will be back again.

Looking to visit Harrogate soon. Naturally was planning on visiting Betty's Tearoom, however reading the reviews?. I think I'll probably take a photo of Betty's Tearoom and walk on by. Sadly they seem to profit not on the quality of Tea's, Coffee's, Sandwiches. 🙁☹️. I'll take myself to Costa 🙂
