Jim Collis Fish and Chips in York

Honestly, this has to be one of the best fish and chip shops in York. The fish was beautifully crispy and fresh, the chips were proper golden and fluffy, and the mushy peas were spot on. It all came out hot and fresh, and the portion size was more than generous. Can’t fault it at all — if you’re in York and fancy a proper chippy tea, this place is a must.

I've been going years and never had a bad a bad experience

This place is fantastic, quite easily the best chip shop in Yorkshire. I live over near Clifton moor but drive over every Saturday to get the kids tea, we have a chip shop locally and also pass a few on the way but the kids simply would rather do without than have to get them elsewhere. The flavour takes me back to days when fish and chips had taste which is something the newcomers to the industry don't seem to be able to produce. I guess it's just past down invaluable knowledge and experience. Keep the hard work up it's so appreciated.

Brilliant traditional british old school fish and chips, all cooked fresh, one of the last remaining proper chippy in york and fairly priced too. This place has been open donkeys years and everything is still cooked to perfection in beef dripping. If you don't use it we'll lose it, staff are always welcoming and happy..... brilliant

Just had a fish butty. It was very greasy fish and the batter had black bits in, so fat not clean. I couldn't finish it, I can still taste the old fat.

We were shopping at the York designer Outlet and fancied some fish and chips so thanks to google we found this lovely shop. Very generous portions, food perfectly cooked and very tasty. Very friendly people who serve those too thank you very much.

I cannot say it is healthy to have a chippy every day, but every so often, why not? Staff is friendly and really generous with the portions, good price, fresh fish and quick service. I have visited many chippies around and Jim Collis is within the top 10 for their price, size and quality. A pity they do not open Sundays when I more lazy to cook for dinner 😅. My 1st visit to Jim Collins Fish & Chip driven past so many times while at work with no time to stop. I’m so very happy I decided to grab some freshly fried fish n chips today, good bit of haddock with real potato chips absolutely great.
