One of many river side pubs from Kew Bridge towards London. Pleasant atmosphere, no intrusive music. We had a table by the window. The bench was not conducive for comfortable dining. The basic IPA was poor. The Christmas menu with beef cheek was deemed excellent. The fish dish was wrapped in bacon so off limits for fish only eaters. The veggie Wellington was tasty with the gravy. There is starting downstairs but we wanted windows.

The Bulls Head, hugging the north bank of the Thames, just west of the railway bridge. A great pub offering a good selection of both cask and keg beers and ciders (keg). The service is great and friendly. This pub has more crooks and nannies (smelling not my strong point) than you chuck down the secret passage connecting the pub with Oliver's Island, the entrance is located right next to......sorry, can't say, it's a secret!! I particularly like the poop deck located on the west side of the pub, a gorgeous little room. A genuinely great riverside pub.

10/10 to this amazing pub! We came for a Sunday roast, we both chose Roast Turkey Food absolutely amazing! You get stuffing , vegetables, pig in blanket and a large Yorkshire pudding. Would highly recommend. I’ll definitely be back again! Been back here many times since I wrote my first review on here. Always great tasty food, would highly recommend. Update: The service in this pub has definitely gone downhill since Barbara left! We were waiting ages to give our meal order. They seem to put people downstairs then forget about you …… Today (November 2024) I came with a friend for a roast dinner, not all the vegetables are fresh like they used to be. Definitely frozen cubed carrots! Also I think the roast potatoes are frozen too as they are a bit dry. I’m sure the turkey is processed meat as well. The Yorkshire pudding is very large but obviously hard to cut. Never enough gravy given - no one came to ask if everything was ok with our meals. Shame really as this really was the best place for a roast dinner……

We booked a table & came to the pub for a birthday Sunday lunch. A beautiful location, by the river, service was friendly but unfortunately the food was a huge disappointment. If I was to pick one key word in the description, it would be ‘dry’. The potatoes had no taste and it was like they had been frozen and then defrosted on the microwave as they had an odd, crumbly texture. Given the price the portion sizes were meagre, lack of veg, meat was again dry - praise where they raise is due, the Yorkshire pudding was sizeable but again very dry. We had to get extra water for the table to help us consume the meal, extra gravy and the condiments were loaded onto the plate in an effort to bring some flavour and vibrancy to our respective pork and turkey roasts. It was a crying shame, as I’m sure this pub in its location has potential to thrive, not just survive if proper attention is given to the kitchen and food, in terms of sourcing good fresh produce and resourcing and motivating your chef and kitchen to drive excellence. Given the economic climate, it feels a great shame to spend so much on a meal - well over £100, only to feel still hungry and on what was a cloudy day - like the lunch has been a bit of a Debbie Downer. Front of house staff were friendly and polite, so I don’t want this to be a reflection of the pub as a whole. Perfect for a cheeky weekend pint, but I would think carefully about a Sunday roast. Hopefully this feedback can be taken onboard, I’d hate to see another riverside pub converted to flats! Must do better! Fingers crossed this was a one off as we’re keen to visit again!

We came for a birthday Sunday roast and honestly the food was so terrible I don’t think I will come back here again. I wish I’d taken a photo. The vegetables were cubed in tiny squares and soggy - they tasted like they had been bought frozen. As was the meat - dry and no flavour. Nothing on my plate was fresh. It was like hospital food except we were paying a good amount of money for it. Such a shame as stunning location.

Chef & Brewer always come up trumps and The Bull was no exception. We were in London to go to Heathrow and this pub was ideal for dinner the evening before the flight. The building is quirky and very olde worlde which was delightful. The service and food was excellent. One of our party ordered the steak and ale pie and it was a perfect version of a meat pie, it tasted as good as it looked. All in all a good experience . Thank you to the staff of The Bull.

We visited Bulls Head on the 6th of October as a family of five. This pub has always been one of our favorites, thanks to its historic charm, beautiful views, friendly staff, and great atmosphere. However, we were quite disappointed with the food this time around. We’ve enjoyed meals here many times in the past, but unfortunately, the Sunday Roast on this visit fell short. The meat was cold and tough, the Yorkshire puddings were stale, and both the potatoes and vegetables were served cold. It’s a shame, as we’ve always had good experiences here before. Hopefully, this was just an off day.

Great location and atmosphere as this is a large multi-level pub by the river. Excellent service, super friendly staff! Excellent for drinks. Food has good reputation but it was just ok (a mixed bag), at least this time. 7 of us tried various things. Good burgers and fish and chips. The Sunday roast (rib of beef) was super tender and tasty but roast potatoes were very dry and the veg kind of dead. A side of chipolata sausages looked and tasted like, not very good, regular pork sausages to me.

🚇 Gunnersbury 🍺 £5.85 Amstel The Bull’s Head is located on the banks of the river Thames overlooking Oliver’s Island in Chiswick. The nearest station is Kew Bridge mainline, I got the Overground to Gunnersbury. An Inn has stood on the riverside here for over 400 years, its most famous patron was supposedly Oliver Cromwell. This pub is Grade II listed and was built in the 18th Century. Actor Donald Pleasance lived next door. This pub is a warren of rooms with various nooks and crannies on multiple layers. The decor is traditional with some smart contemporary touches. There are two serveries located in the middle of the pub which are small but perfectly formed. Across the ceiling are oak beams, the floors are a combination of carpets, boards and tiles. There is plenty seating throughout which is all very comfortable. At the front of the pub are plenty of benches with great views across the river. The beer choice was good and offers a selection of three cask ales and a decent lineup of continental lagers. I decided on an Amstel, my pint was excellent, price point was below average which was pleasing. The food menu is pub classics, Fish & Chips costs £16.29. I arrived around 3pm on a sweltering Saturday afternoon in May. The pub was fairly quiet inside as most punters were soaking up the sun outside by the river. There was a lovely calmness to this pub, the various little sections mean you have a piece of pub to yourself. The service was first class, the chap who served me was engaging, upbeat and courteous. Visiting The Bull’s Head was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Even though the decor is smart, there is still “Ye Olde' Pub” vibes here. The beer is on point, the service great and the location tranquil and scenic. If you’re off on a stroll along this stretch of the river, be sure to pay a visit. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 11.05.24

Below average "pub food". Food came barely warm, and some of the items on the plate felt reheated. Staff are doing borderline enough. The gentleman member of staff was like protecting his territory, top-down attitude, Instructing me to partly do his job. For what you get, and for the quality of the dish, well overpriced. Yes, the location is on the river bank, but also on public pathways and very close to a train bridge, so noise isn't on short supply. Was surprised to see a pub this quiet on a Sunday lunch, but when I was leaving , I realised why ... Would not suggest eating there.

The pub by the Thames is truly a gem among the places I have visited. From the moment I walked in, I felt at home thanks to the incredibly cozy interior decor. Wooden furniture, warm lighting, and carefully chosen decorations create an amazing atmosphere that encourages relaxation and enjoying time in good company. The burgers I tried were absolutely delicious. Perfectly seasoned meat, fresh toppings, and a crispy bun made every bite a real pleasure. Moreover, the pub offers gluten-free options, which is a huge plus for me. This allowed me to enjoy my meal without any health concerns. It's also worth mentioning the excellent selection of wines. Every wine I tasted was carefully selected and paired perfectly with the dishes served. The staff was extremely professional and helpful, always ready to offer advice and ensure that guests feel special. The location right by the Thames adds extra charm to this place. Being able to enjoy delicious food and wine with a view of the river makes a visit to this pub an unforgettable experience. It's OK. I've been many times and it's typically good. But not consistently great. On last visit service was very poor. It was a litany of errors. Lots of confusion and issues. Drinks were wrong. In the end there were so many errors with our desserts that we left before we had received everything. First only one arrived, it seemed the others hadn't been recorded. We waited for 30 minutes and some others finally came but they were not what we had ordered. Nobody seemed to have any idea what was going on. That was the final straw. I felt that staff training should be improved. Usually there is a very competent and lovely lady managing the service staff but she wasn't there so maybe that was the problem. Sorry I don't think I'll come back...

Big disappointment, this pub used to have the best Sunday roast in London, now is not even average. We ordered the rib, and the taste was poor (one was overcooked, the other had barely any meat on it). I've lived in the area for a long while and have eaten at the Bull's Head many times, with many guests who have come to visit. Generally a fun place to be, if extremely overwhelming at peak times. Uniformly, for most of the last two years, it has been excellent. However, in the last two months there has been a steep and drastic decline in quality. Food has gone from being flavourful and delicious to dry, overcooked and much reduced quality. I am now avoiding it as a previously expensive-but-worth-it pub has turned into another mediocre, overpriced London trap. Come for a drink on the riverfront but avoid having a meal. A huge shame considering the past excellent quality fare.

5 adults and 3 children went. We went at the time they gave for the reservation, but our table was still occupied, so we had to wait standing for 10-15 minutes. We placed our order and over an hour passed. When we asked when it would come, they said the kitchen chef had forgotten and they would make a discount for this situation. Anyway, an hour and a half later, our food arrived. But it was a disaster for me. You can see the tomato skin they put in the pictures. They put the tomato skin that should have been thrown away in my hamburger. It was time to pay the bill. They didn't give a discount. When we explained the situation to the waiter, he said he would ask the restaurant manager as if we were requesting it. They had said they would make a discount themselves. Then they gave a discount of around 20-25%. I was hoping for better service and tastier food, but it didn't happen. Still, thank you for the smiling staff and service.

Went here for dinner tonight and wasn’t impressed. The service was okay at first and we appreciated that it was busy so gave the benefit of the doubt. However, between each course the service was slower and it appeared other tables were being attended to but we were being ignored. When we received the dessert menu we waited for half hour with staff looking at us but not coming over, so in the end we left. The food was mediocre. It used to be better. I had a stake and ale pie. The meat tasted fatty and the pastry dense. I will not be returning.

We stayed there a few months ago, and would love to go back. Characteristic place, excellent food, very pleasant service. Normal prices, location worthy of a detour off the most obvious tourist itineraries. Compliments.

Managed to get in for Mother’s Day. Got treated really well, pub atmosphere gives a good family feel, and staff (Nathan) added to that. Most importantly, Mum was happy.

If I could give this pub 0 stars then that is what I would rate it. Came here today for Mother’s Day. The pub itself is very claustrophobic, from when we were seated it took 1hour and 20minutes to receive our roast dinners. The roast potatoes (if that’s what you would call them) were awful, tiny, cold, hard and tasted as if they had been sat on the side for 2 days. The beef was all gristle and about 2% meat. The turkey and pork were also dry and hard/chewy. The Yorkshire pudding was hard and crusty. The only thing that was actually decent was the 3 carrots, 1 broccoli and 1 parsnip. Came with a drizzle of gravy so had to ask for more. This is hands down the worst roast dinner I have ever eaten in my 25 years of life! Will not ever be returning!

The pub is amazing. Food and the atmosphere was also really good. The staff cannot do enough, they have a “can do” attitude so nothing is too much . Of course within reason

Great little place to eat, delightful atmosphere and attentive staff. It's nice that it's a little out of the way so it's off the beaten path. Great food, huge portions and very filling. Staff are very nice, even my mum recommends them. Will be returning!

Our family absolutely loves visiting this pub for lunch or dinner, and it has quickly become one of our favorite spots. The food is consistently outstanding—fresh, delicious, and always exceeding expectations. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed a variety of seasonal dishes, and the creativity and quality of the menu keep us coming back for more. The pub itself has a stunning interior design that creates a cozy, inviting atmosphere. It’s both aesthetically pleasing and incredibly comfortable, making it the perfect place to relax or even get some work done. I’ve occasionally used it as a working space, and the peaceful vibe, great coffee, and reliable Wi-Fi make it an excellent spot to focus outside the home. The staff are wonderful—friendly, attentive, and always ready to make your visit enjoyable. What’s even better is how inclusive the pub is; it’s both kid-friendly and dog-friendly, which makes it an ideal choice for families. I’ve also seen many parties, celebrations, and events hosted here, and they always seem to go off beautifully. I feel so lucky to have such a fantastic place right in my neighborhood! If you’re looking for great food, a welcoming vibe, and a space where you can relax, celebrate, or even get some work done, this pub is a must-visit.

One of the best Gail's in London in terms of the food, service and atmosphere. It is clean , warm and there is usually plenty of seating available. Very friendly staff and people are served quickly.
