We love this pub. On this occasion we made use of a brilliant '2 mains for £20 voucher'. The food (sea bass) was superb and the service was excellent and friendly, as usual. The pub is always cosy, comfortable and attractive. My favourite space is in the Turret, but in the evenings this can get a bit cold by the window and the lighting is a bit stark. Improving the heating and lighting somehow would make this section perfect.

It’s a real shame to write this review because The Bull’s Head used to be our favourite pub. We decided to give it a second chance since it changed hands last year in March because last time the service wasn’t good, but this time was unfortunately even worse. We asked for a highchair at the bar and never got one - we went looking for one ourselves in the end and found one under a pile of coats. That was fine; we got what we needed, but then got given the wrong menus, ordered from them and was told later that we’d have to reorder. Again, not exactly a problem, but along with the ridiculously slow service we were close to getting up and leaving. We had a baby with us which means that we can’t sit at a table for hours without him getting upset. Over an hour later our food arrived by which time he was tired of sitting at the table and we had to eat our food quickly - which honestly, for the wait, was average. When we asked where our food was, it turned out a few other people were queuing to ask the same, even though the pub was far from full. Somebody did apologise to us for the slow service and we were offered a free drink but by that time we weren’t able to enjoy anything like that because we needed to go. Overall it was a disappointing experience, especially considering what this pub once was.

One of the worst experiences ever! We booked a table for dinner and upon arrival ignored by 3 staff members who walked past us didn't even acknowledge us to even say " we will be with you in a moment" after waiting 6 minutes I personally went upto someone at the bar and informed him we had a booking and if someone was going to show us to the table? He took us to a table which was dirty and said he would be right back to clean it and a waiter will be over right away to take drinks and food order, we waited 10min and none of the waitresses or waiters even bothered to attend to us or acknowledge us, 1 waitress just seemed like she didn't even wanna be there, the couple sitting next to us pretty much had same experience and said "don't hold your breath in these guys coming to take your order better off ordering via the app" so we moved ourselves to a more cleaner table and proceeded to order via the app, 30min have gone by and still not 1 member of staff even approached us to take our drinks order it wasn't even busy , so we ordered via the app, drinks came 15min later then our starters which are OK nothing special, then whilst we were still eating our starters they brought our mains out and just sat it on the table next to us and said here your main, I questioned the waitress that were still eating our starters how can you bring out the main already? To which she just gave a smirk and said I'll just leave it there for you guys. Like ok you didn't really answer my question but thanks. My wife lasagne was abysmal and even had a long white hair in it and she refused to eat anymore, my burger was soo dry I almost choked trying to swallow it , the burger was overcooked, bacon was like crisp and no sauce in the burger, i wasn't even asked if I would like any sauces with my fries when waitress dropped it to me, I only had 3 bites and gave up eating it was just tasteless and dry, we finally managed to get a waitress attention regarding the hair in my wife's food to which the waitress took the plate and I requested a refund for both of the foods as we barely had 2 bites and the waitress we get that done for you right away, no one came to ask what the problem was the management was hiding behind the bar if he is the manager that is, we finished our drink and I asked the bar tender when will my refund be processed he said because done on app they will have to do it at end of the night and to expect it back by tomorrow which I will be checking, and even then not one staff member came to say thank you for coming nor any acknowledgement from any staff. whoever owns this pub I would hire more customer orientated staff who are polite and attentive and get rid of these current so called employees or give them better training because in this time and current situation you need all the punters you can get and with these current waiters and waitresses even management they're just going to bring this pub down and we were not the only people feeling that way as a family sitting behind us had enough of the service and also kicked off with the waiters regarding service. The guy in grey who was heavy build and tall (who I think is mgt) ignored us when we walked In and stood infront of him to take our booking only to just walk away from us and not even look at us really needs to start realising he's in a customer facing role and not just chit chat with his fellow employees and people he knows and actually realise he's at work and to attend to customers!I would seriously avoid going to this pub, the city barge and Bell & Crown know how to truly be a pub and actually have people working there that want to work! I will be waiting to see if I get My refund tomorrow if not I will be contacting Greene King organisatio personally as I know the people high up In the chain informing them of this!

Feliz Navidad!

We have been coming here for Christmas lunch for many years now; it's a sort of tradition for my wife and me. Every time the food and the service have been good - until this time, unfortunately. The food on the whole was good, though the 'pastry' on the tarte tatin was like chewy, soggy cardboard, which was a pity; that's really not how it should be. The service - which had always been really good in the past ten or fifteen years or so - was quite lacking this time. The pub was not busy at all, but it seemed to be almost impossible to get someone to come to our table - and we were more or less the only ones in the dining area. We were told at the beginning that there was no stuffing 'due to a problem with the provider', but there was no effort to offer something else; a side of pigs in blankets would have been a nice touch, for example. When it came to dessert, we said to the young man serving that we were ready to order and he said 'you can order at the bar', which isn't quite the point! Sadly, the warmth, atmosphere and attention to the customer which was a feature of the previous management, was not present on our visit. Consequently, this may be the last time we go here for Christmas lunch.

One of many river side pubs from Kew Bridge towards London. Pleasant atmosphere, no intrusive music. We had a table by the window. The bench was not conducive for comfortable dining. The basic IPA was poor. The Christmas menu with beef cheek was deemed excellent. The fish dish was wrapped in bacon so off limits for fish only eaters. The veggie Wellington was tasty with the gravy. There is starting downstairs but we wanted windows.

The Bulls Head, hugging the north bank of the Thames, just west of the railway bridge. A great pub offering a good selection of both cask and keg beers and ciders (keg). The service is great and friendly. This pub has more crooks and nannies (smelling not my strong point) than you chuck down the secret passage connecting the pub with Oliver's Island, the entrance is located right next to......sorry, can't say, it's a secret!! I particularly like the poop deck located on the west side of the pub, a gorgeous little room. A genuinely great riverside pub.

10/10 to this amazing pub! We came for a Sunday roast, we both chose Roast Turkey Food absolutely amazing! You get stuffing , vegetables, pig in blanket and a large Yorkshire pudding. Would highly recommend. I’ll definitely be back again! Been back here many times since I wrote my first review on here. Always great tasty food, would highly recommend. Update: The service in this pub has definitely gone downhill since Barbara left! We were waiting ages to give our meal order. They seem to put people downstairs then forget about you …… Today (November 2024) I came with a friend for a roast dinner, not all the vegetables are fresh like they used to be. Definitely frozen cubed carrots! Also I think the roast potatoes are frozen too as they are a bit dry. I’m sure the turkey is processed meat as well. The Yorkshire pudding is very large but obviously hard to cut. Never enough gravy given - no one came to ask if everything was ok with our meals. Shame really as this really was the best place for a roast dinner……

We came for a birthday Sunday roast and honestly the food was so terrible I don’t think I will come back here again. I wish I’d taken a photo. The vegetables were cubed in tiny squares and soggy - they tasted like they had been bought frozen. As was the meat - dry and no flavour. Nothing on my plate was fresh. It was like hospital food except we were paying a good amount of money for it. Such a shame as stunning location.

We booked a table & came to the pub for a birthday Sunday lunch. A beautiful location, by the river, service was friendly but unfortunately the food was a huge disappointment. If I was to pick one key word in the description, it would be ‘dry’. The potatoes had no taste and it was like they had been frozen and then defrosted on the microwave as they had an odd, crumbly texture. Given the price the portion sizes were meagre, lack of veg, meat was again dry - praise where they raise is due, the Yorkshire pudding was sizeable but again very dry. We had to get extra water for the table to help us consume the meal, extra gravy and the condiments were loaded onto the plate in an effort to bring some flavour and vibrancy to our respective pork and turkey roasts. It was a crying shame, as I’m sure this pub in its location has potential to thrive, not just survive if proper attention is given to the kitchen and food, in terms of sourcing good fresh produce and resourcing and motivating your chef and kitchen to drive excellence. Given the economic climate, it feels a great shame to spend so much on a meal - well over £100, only to feel still hungry and on what was a cloudy day - like the lunch has been a bit of a Debbie Downer. Front of house staff were friendly and polite, so I don’t want this to be a reflection of the pub as a whole. Perfect for a cheeky weekend pint, but I would think carefully about a Sunday roast. Hopefully this feedback can be taken onboard, I’d hate to see another riverside pub converted to flats! Must do better! Fingers crossed this was a one off as we’re keen to visit again!

We visited Bulls Head on the 6th of October as a family of five. This pub has always been one of our favorites, thanks to its historic charm, beautiful views, friendly staff, and great atmosphere. However, we were quite disappointed with the food this time around. We’ve enjoyed meals here many times in the past, but unfortunately, the Sunday Roast on this visit fell short. The meat was cold and tough, the Yorkshire puddings were stale, and both the potatoes and vegetables were served cold. It’s a shame, as we’ve always had good experiences here before. 🚇 Gunnersbury 🍺 £5.85 Amstel The Bull’s Head is located on the banks of the river Thames overlooking Oliver’s Island in Chiswick. The nearest station is Kew Bridge mainline, I got the Overground to Gunnersbury. An Inn has stood on the riverside here for over 400 years, its most famous patron was supposedly Oliver Cromwell. This pub is Grade II listed and was built in the 18th Century. Actor Donald Pleasance lived next door. This pub is a warren of rooms with various nooks and crannies on multiple layers. The decor is traditional with some smart contemporary touches. There are two serveries located in the middle of the pub which are small but perfectly formed. Across the ceiling are oak beams, the floors are a combination of carpets, boards and tiles. There is plenty seating throughout which is all very comfortable. At the front of the pub are plenty of benches with great views across the river. The beer choice was good and offers a selection of three cask ales and a decent lineup of continental lagers. I decided on an Amstel, my pint was excellent, price point was below average which was pleasing. The food menu is pub classics, Fish & Chips costs £16.29. I arrived around 3pm on a sweltering Saturday afternoon in May. The pub was fairly quiet inside as most punters were soaking up the sun outside by the river. There was a lovely calmness to this pub, the various little sections mean you have a piece of pub to yourself. The service was first class, the chap who served me was engaging, upbeat and courteous. Visiting The Bull’s Head was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Even though the decor is smart, there is still “Ye Olde' Pub” vibes here. The beer is on point, the service great and the location tranquil and scenic. If you’re off on a stroll along this stretch of the river, be sure to pay a visit. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 11.05.24

Below average "pub food". Food came barely warm, and some of the items on the plate felt reheated. Staff are doing borderline enough. The gentleman member of staff was like protecting his territory, top-down attitude, Instructing me to partly do his job. For what you get, and for the quality of the dish, well overpriced. Yes, the location is on the river bank, but also on public pathways and very close to a train bridge, so noise isn't on short supply. Was surprised to see a pub this quiet on a Sunday lunch, but when I was leaving , I realised why ... Would not suggest eating there.

The pub by the Thames is truly a gem among the places I have visited. From the moment I walked in, I felt at home thanks to the incredibly cozy interior decor. Wooden furniture, warm lighting, and carefully chosen decorations create an amazing atmosphere that encourages relaxation and enjoying time in good company. The burgers I tried were absolutely delicious. Perfectly seasoned meat, fresh toppings, and a crispy bun made every bite a real pleasure. Moreover, the pub offers gluten-free options, which is a huge plus for me. This allowed me to enjoy my meal without any health concerns. It's also worth mentioning the excellent selection of wines. Every wine I tasted was carefully selected and paired perfectly with the dishes served. The staff was extremely professional and helpful, always ready to offer advice and ensure that guests feel special. The location right by the Thames adds extra charm to this place. Big disappointment, this pub used to have the best Sunday roast in London, now is not even average. We ordered the rib, and the taste was poor (one was overcooked, the other had barely any meat on it). Trimmings were poor, and no longer came with home-made Yorkshire pudding (replaced with the pre-cooked crap that they serve in most pubs). Service was good, but could not make up for the poor food :(

It's OK. I've been many times and it's typically good. But not consistently great. On last visit service was very poor. It was a litany of errors. Lots of confusion and issues. Drinks were wrong. In the end there were so many errors with our desserts that we left before we had received everything. First only one arrived, it seemed the others hadn't been recorded. We waited for 30 minutes and some others finally came but they were not what we had ordered. Nobody seemed to have any idea what was going on. That was the final straw. I felt that staff training should be improved. Usually there is a very competent and lovely lady managing the service staff but she wasn't there so maybe that was the problem. Sorry I don't think I'll come back...

I love this pub. I took out an eye-watering mortgage so I could move near to this pub and I don’t regret it. It’s beautiful

Loved it! Warm and cozy, the food was delicious and surprisingly reasonably priced. The desserts looked very impressive. Very friendly service. I would definitely recommend it.

Costi molto onesti.

I've lived in the area for a long while and have eaten at the Bull's Head many times, with many guests who have come to visit. Generally a fun place to be, if extremely overwhelming at peak times. Uniformly, for most of the last two years, it has been excellent. However, in the last two months there has been a steep and drastic decline in quality. Food has gone from being flavourful and delicious to dry, overcooked and much reduced quality. I am now avoiding it as a previously expensive-but-worth-it pub has turned into another mediocre, overpriced London trap. Come for a drink on the riverfront but avoid having a meal. A huge shame considering the past excellent quality fare.

Great priced double vodka lime and soda (£10). Very fast service. Good views up and down the river. Definitely the best value for the area and I will definitely be back.

I went for dinner I was seated next to the men’s toilet after saying I didn’t want stools as I was with my elderly mum, there were many other tables of two empty but the comment by the manager behind the till tells me that me challenging was payback. There was no offer of menus and they seem to no longer take your order at your table meaning no receipt and I massively overpaid but no evidence. Dinner order came wrong and my trifle dessert was a tumbler with ice cream and spray cream, no sponge no jelly. I have no clue what is going on there it was an absolute shambles and the food was awful.

I enjoyed the food and the ambiance. However the star of this show was our kind waitress Ellie, who went above and beyond to tend to our every need. Such a wonderful experience. Also a small shout out to William who brought our food and even gave us extra gravy which was delicious. Thank you Bulls Head!

Saturday April 20th in the afternoon we a topped for lunch. All very nice until we (as in everyone) heard the chef shouting and raging in the kitchen to some unfortunate staff member “out out out, get out get out” plus some louder comments. Not acceptable under any circumstances. Shame as we found the staff very nice.

Nice pub, nice staff, great location on the river but bang average food. Expected better given the food prices but all felt a bit out of a box, reheated, basic on the food front. Steak and ale pie pretty good, the chicken dish I had was poor and came with literally 2 onion rings and small handful of chips. Apple pie desert was cheap tasting and overly sweet. Come for drinks - eat elsewhere!

So me and my daughter came here for dinner today the staff was lovely and could not fault them however i ordered the lamb shank sheperds pie but all the meat was so chewy i spat most of into a tissue and even the cabbage was so chewy i came home and had a kebab after paying 23 pound for that dish. My daughter had the chicken burger and chips and she said that her meal was delicious.

Great flavours, but lukewarm food left me gobbling it down hastily. Surprisingly quiet for a pub lunch, but I expected better quality given the low crowd. Props for prompt customer service offering a replacement, though I couldn't wait. Overall, it was a slight letdown despite the tasty dishes."

Served by the delightful Keya...brought a cheery tone and warm personality to a great evening. Even though the restaurant was busy the service was A1. Both the pulled chicken croquettes and the bakewell tart dessert were stand out excellent.

As an old customer, I am .pleased to report this place is getting better and better. Service is much quicker, food is lot better and warmer, no more waiting for drinks order. Sorry I didn't take name of lady who served us so efficiently. My grand kids found a new orange drink in small bottles so tasty. One should heed management's advice and place order beforehand (although we didn't). Billing incl tipping clearly explained.
