None of us really appreciate the sports bar setup adopted by Village group. It's impossible to eat and enjoy conversation. Service at the bar was very slow indeed, just disappointing all round. I used a voucher which had so many restrictions, it made it useless.

Unfortunately we had a table booked, but the roast were almost all finished by the time we arrived. Luckily a staff member came over and talked us into staying with three children and would rustle up two roast dinners and the two boys picked burgers (3rd a baby). Staff couldn't do enough for us, gave us a discount on our bill as there were no more starters left - and explained that the whole menu style was changing the following week so it wouldn't be all you could eat anymore. Roast came out on chopping boards, cute but not ideal, tasted a bit too salty and was missing a big lump of mash potato. However the boys were quite impressed with the Sunday brunch burger and kids one, so would recommend them. Lastly, for what we got I think the meals are slightly expensive for what they are compared to other places. We would come again with the lovely staff and ambience, but food had been better.

We went for the brunch menu which we have had before and me and my partner brought friends who where over from Ireland. I dont why it had changed from the way is used to be set up but it was terrible, the food to "help your self too" wasnt even ready and out when we turned up so we had to wait before we could get any soup and bread, then range of starters was tiny and terrible but just in bigger bowls than it used to be. It was about 15 minute wait for the bread rolls, and then took the staff over 20 after we had finished the soup before relaising we had and asled if we wanted the roast which took over 15 minutes to come out and even when it did the veg was burnt and discoloured, things where missing off 3 of the 4 plates and one of my friends didnt eat any of it as it was that bad. A couple behind us didnt eat much of theres and a table of 20 there for a birthday also complained about thr tiny selection of starter food but when they did the chief brought a larger selection out which annoyed us further as we didnt get a the offer of a bigger selection. The staff didnt have a brain cell between then, tables where left dirty for over hald a hour and they still where sorted properly when we left. We had to clear our own plated into the bar so we had some room and there was plenty off staff but the women just followed each other round like lost sheep. The only one with a braincell was the guy who was the manger but even then he couldnt do it all on his own or manage the staff well. We where told the way that is set up is going to change again and it wont even be an all you can eat section and just set course meals. We will not be back again and will be telling people not to go either

I never recommend anywhere to anyone, we arrived for 6.30 as booked, ordered food, it came after a while but we were not in a rush, I also ordered a coffee for after the meal which arrived at least 30 minutes after we had finished eating and we had to ask, the tables weren’t cleared after we had finished eating, but the staff were busy and not enough of them as there were 3 parties as well as other hotel guests and members of the gym

Poor choice of starters and desserts. Had come recommended but was very disappointed with the food. Numerous complaints made by different people/tables while we were there. Table was not cleared between starter and main - I had to move the dishes onto the bar to have room at the table. Meat was chewy and inedible. Aware that the restaurant was in a transition period but this should have been communicated on booking. Ended up paying £50 for meals we did not eat . I doubt that we will return

Food was amazing. Cannot fault the set menu valentines meal. I would recommend the food in the Village and the bar, it’s agood atmosphere. We were served by a elderly woman who I think was on a day release from a home , did not have a clue how to serve us. She made us and the tables by us feel very uncomfortable and made it difficult to ask for anything. Surly on a special night like valentines just a couple of experienced staff isn’t much to ask for. Tables were to close. May aswell have sat us on one big long table. This was the first time since Xmas my ill wife had been out so we left disappointed. I would go back but only for a drink just wouldn’t know what I’d get if i sat down for food.

I was disappointed as I was expecting a carvery with all the trimmings but had it served on a wooden board even though the young lady did explain this I was still underwhelmed. Also it was cold in the area were we where sitting the young lady turned the air con off and put the heating on. It as my birthday and I would have preferred to have my food on a plate not a wooden board not my cup of tea as I always feel you cannot get wood hygienicly clean.

I was at the Village Grill recently with a friend. We both had the chicken piri piri. The chicken was lovely, tender and moist, followed by cheesecake. It was a Saturday night and I expected it to be very busy and quite noisy, it was neither. Sometimes the noise level is quite high, depending on which football team is playing on the big screens. I have often been in Starbucks with friends and it has been difficult to hear each other speak. But, Saturday was good, we both enjoyed ourselves. Lovely ambience and good service.

I would recommend this restaurant/hotel however I wouldn't recommend booking through "opentable" as the restaurant didn't know we were coming and as a table of 8 luckily the staff rallied around and "fitted us in" which wasn't the best but apparently "open table" quite often don't relay the bookings adequately.

Very, very disappointing experience. The restaurant is dominated by huge TV screens broadcasting football and is a very noisy environment. One of our meals was acceptable, the other, supposedly a superfood salad, consisted principally of elderly uncooked broccoli florets. In fairness the cost of the meal was refunded by Village. Signs around the hotel suggest that it has a Italian Restaurant but this apparently closed some time ago. Value for money is dire: £30 to eat a fillet steak in that environment? Will never stay at a Village Hotel again.

I expected the ambience to be a little special for Christmas Eve. Although the food was quite good, the main course wasn't exactly piping hot. Service was really poor. The gesture of a round of free drinks, while appreciated, did not compensate for a lacklustre evening meal and was not taken up in full. Overall, I was disappointed, both for myself but especially for my guest.

We had a very pleasant evening at The Village Hotel where my guests were staying overnight. I joined them for dinner and the service and food was excellent. I would prefer not to have a massive TV screen staring at me with a match in full flow but I know most people probably love that on a Fridat evening. However we were able to have a civilised conversation which was the reason for the meal as I do not see the very often,

I booked a table weeks in advance and clarified on my booking that it was a birthday meal, when we arrived the staff seemed like they had no idea about my booking and there was no mention of a birthday by staff, I didn’t expect much just maybe a candle on the table or for the staff to ask if we wanted to make any birthday celebration arrangements, but no. We then asked if we could sit on a table that was labelled reserved as i thought as i had booked in advance one of those tables was for us and we were declined, staff also never explained whether there was any special offers on. I first ordered drinks and our food, the staff member forgot one of the drinks which was an honest mistake but my receipt was left on show with my card details on. The food was better than satisfactory but overall the service was appalling, not once did a staff member come over and ask if our food was okay. Later that night a couple came in and it was noticeable that they had not booked a table, but they were allowed to sit on the reserved tables, staff then treated them completely differently by standing next to the table to take orders for drink and food and explained how there was an offer on , we didn’t receive any service like that we were forced to wait in line at the bar to order our food and drinks and we wasn't aware of the specials either. Finally later on in the night we asked a member of staff if we could now have our dessert that we had ordered when we arrived, it was a fruit salad. After agreeing to get the fruit I observed him walk off in the direction to what i thought was the kitchen, literally seconds i walked in the same direction to go to the toilets and i witnessed the same member of staff having a flirtatious conversation with the receptionist of the hotel, he had never went to the kitchen and asked about the fruit salad. We then asked another member of staff that we had asked about the fruit salad but he explained how that request had never been made.

Cramming both the pub and restaurant together created a crammed noisy and intrusive environment. Service was very slow and our table wasn’t ready for the time of arrival. We had a squeeze between other diners to access the carvery which is a struggle when carrying plates. The football commentary was on so loud we couldn’t have a conversation - when requesting for this to be turned down the waitress replied with “ I don’t like working her either” ! Not what you would expect in terms of problem resolution! We were loyal diners at village Wirral but never again.

Preferred the older pub even though the new bar/grill looks amazing. Booked at table for mother in laws 70th Birthday and was disappointed to say the least. The pub was very busy and too loud as we could not even hold a conversation. The service we received was very could and eventually we were moved tables as the table we were sat at was not suitable. Once moved we were happy until the music was turned up and we were sat directly underneath it unfortunately. The food was average and both food and drinks were quite expensive for what we had. Would not visit again as it seems to be more of a sports bar & drinking place rather than a dining place for a special Birthday. To be fair I thought I was booking the old pub and did not realise it had changed. If I had realised I would not of booked it.

Food, service both great. Its just too noisy to enjoy s meal and catch up with friends. Its a brilliant sports bar but it's a shame that there isn't a separate quieter place to eat. I used to go regularly with family for Sunday lunch, but won't be doing that in the future as we wouldn't be able to hear ourselves speak. I live the village and recommend to everyone. But this latest upgrade isn't one of their best....it just needs a quieter option for eating, afternoon teas etc

We were on the love the weekend deal so had a 2 course meal with fizz included. The food portions were huge considering it is a prepaid for meal so after the starter we did struggle to eat more than half of the dinner, but better that than walk out hungry. The service was very slow due to the volume of people dining and we had finished our meal and had to ask again for the fizz that we were meant to have with our meal as it had still not been brought over.
Also now the pub and restaurant have merged into one after being sperate during our last visit, we found the noise level way too much when trying to have a nice meal. You have football and rugby on the TVs and numerous people shouting and singing as well as a lot of people in for just drinks so it does take away now from the dining experience.

We were staying at the Village Hotel and decided to eat in their restaurant on the first night. There was a choice of a set menu or a la carte and we decided on the latter. Although it is advertised as an Italian restaurant this isn't reflected in the menu which is really international - not many Italians serve teryaki salmon, piri piri chicken, BBQ pork etc., however there were some pasta dishes. To start we chose chicken lollipops (delicious) and fritto misto (good but some elements were too heavily battered). These were followed by a sirloin steak (perfectly cooked) and chicken carbonara (unusual but enjoyable). From the rather limited wine list (which also wasn't very Italian) we found a nice Rioja at a reasonable price. Our Australian waitress was brilliant throughout - chatty, attentive and quick to clear, just what you hope for. Overall a pleasant experience but don't go expecting much of an Italian menu.

Decided to have a break from cooking Sunday roast, so chose to go here. We booked on line for 3.45. At no point were we told that this was the end of the carvery service. The restaurant was not busy, and yet I had to go in search of a waitress to order drinks. The starter section was depleted to say the least, however the actual carvery wasn't bad. Beef, turkey and ham, plenty of veg, Yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets, stuffing, roast and mashed potatoes and gravy, all of which was well cooked. We then went to get our pudding, which were virtually non existent apart from some fruit salad and waffles, which looked as if they had been there most of the afternoon . I had seen diners at another table being offered apple crumble and custard, so again I went in search of a waitress and we were finally served very dried up crumble with a drizzle of custard. All in all not the best dining experience. Even if it was the end of service , we paid the same as if we had arrived at the beginning and should have had the same choice. Certainly won't be going back or recommending

Me and my husband decided to try out the Sunday carvery with our children as a special treat for a celebration of some good new we had received.
The restaurant it’s self was nice and clean and well presented, we were seated by a young lady and asked if we would like any drinks.
We were then told when ready we could go up and help ourselves to starters, but we thought the waitress was not very confident in explaining what to do and where things were so we had to call her back and ask again.
The starters were ok although not much choice for children. My younger son ended up having bread rolls.
The carvery itself I thought was very poor, the mash potatoes reminded us of school mash , tasted awful and salty. The roast potatoes were not nice, they were soggy, all the veg was dry and the gravy was like water. The meat was dry too.
The deserts were the only thing worth eating in all honesty, again not much choice though.
We asked where the ice cream was and the waitress went into the kitchen and came out with frozen ice cream sundae bowls with what looked like already made up ice cream portions which they stored in the freezer ready for when someone asked for one, I didn’t find this very fresh at all and it put us off eating it.
All in all I don’t think we will return as we thought it was too expensive for the quality of the food. And the drinks were far too expensive too.
Sorry Village hotel Wirral but I think Toby carvery beats hands down, but with a few tweaks it could be a lovely afternoon lunch experience for future for new potential customers.

The walls were covered in black and white 'Italian' photographs, a lot depicting very bizarre subjects?!? Our waitress was lovely but service was incredibly slow!
We didn’t see her for nearly 30mins, it took 15mibs to bring big our drinks then ages after we had finished eating to remove plates.
My main course (halloumi skewers) was delicious but the tiramisu was the worst I’ve ever had. Very thick and stodgy, not the light desert I thought I would be getting. The biscuit crumb on top was like eating dust.
The cocktails were reasonably priced but not cold enough, I had to ask for a glass of ice.
The food was overpriced.
We wouldn’t return or recommend due to the slow service and high food prices.

We were staying at the hotel that Buca di Beppo is attached to and having eaten here before decided to go again! I’m so pleased that we did. The service was outstanding and the food well all I can say is wow! I had the red pepper and tomato soup and it was so good. Definitely homemade and made very well it was too. For mains I had fillet steak with sweet potato fries. We also had greens and bacon and garlic mushrooms as side dishes. My steak was cooked perfectly and was just the right size. The garlic mushrooms we absolutely delicious and would definitely recommend them! All in all a very enjoyable evening and we will 100% be back!!!

Big prices, small portions. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and I certainly would not go again. Two of us had the chicken skewers which consisted of 6 tiny pieces of chicken about an inch in diameter and it came with chips - about 8 chips altogether. Appalling quantity for the very expensive price.

The only thing I was slightly dissapointed about as when I made the booking on line I thought we were going to be able to have the Cavery, but I was informed that this finishes at 4.30, I can't recall reading this on the booking but the food was still good.

Thanks

We had an excellent meal, both had starters only. Food was good and service was excellent. Although described as Italian the menu is comprehensive and not limited to just Italian. The restaurant is located within the Village Hotel and has plenty of free parking.

Well - what a shame - writing this review as hubby drives us home - felt compelled to write this review whilst the "experinece" is still annoying us! Restuarant only had 2 other couples dining , yet we were neglected by the staff - i wiped the table before our dinner came as it was dirty - the staff were unfamiliar with the menu (even though there is very little on it) i found the restaurant manager to order dessert - and sat for nearly 20 mins with our main dishes still on the table - whilst 2 of the staff stood having a chat- so we moved the dishes oursieves to the next table. The dessert arrived (fudge cake) we were not asked if we wanted it hot or cold and we wrongly assumed it would be warm - but it was straight out of the fridge. That couldve been forgiven if the service was good- but it was awful - we have never been to a restaurant and not left a tip - except for this time - it wasnt at all deserved. Although there was a highlight- during the long delays in the lazy service (in the empty restaurant!) We had the pictures below to entertain us ...... shame i didnt take a pic of the other lovely pictures adorning the walls - an elephant with its trunk up the backside of another... mmmm makes me feel like going back there to dine....!!!!

Very disjointed service, portion control was above dining experience and served at table wasn’t very well thought through! Food decent quality but could’ve been a much better experience!

When we wet first shown to our table we wet just giving a set menue I had to ask for the full menue wich the waiter replied " didn't you pre book the set menue I will have to check". For the first drink we had coktails you could see they wet waters down so next drink I orderd a gin and tonic and was charged 5.60 for a single! My partner had prawn cocktail for starters wich was mainly lettuce and the smallest paws we have ever seen. We both had steak, I had to ask for proper steak united as the ones they gave us wer less still than a butter knife! The steaks we cooked nice just same half of them wer fat! Apart from that test of meal was nice but decor needs a serious upgrade compared to the rest of the hotel and at £90 ! I wouldn't of paid if I didn't already have a voucher for £25 off

Literally the best Indian in the area and it’s not even close. I have no idea why Mother India is busy when this gem is across the road. Unreal food at great prices

Bizarre customer service... We enjoyed excellent meals at Portofino New Brighton, over several months, but on this occasion we have have been put off from going there again. On the plus side, the food quality is normally excellent , and on most visits staff were attentive and helpful, but one of the young Italian waiters is unfortunately not good at English, and this impacts on service; he often has to refer questions to his manager, because he doesn't understand them. He doesn't even understand some basic restaurant terms, such as 'gluten' On this latest occasion though, it was the manager who took our food orders; his English is good, but the Sea Bass my partner ordered, came with a completely unrecognisable sauce, not one described on the menu. She also suspected that the sea bass was mackerel (or another different fish). When my partner questioned him, he was adamant that it was sea bass, but bizarrely said that "we sometimes change the sauces". Er, no....I thought, restaurants do not "change sauces" without discussion with the customer. The manager also offered to go to the kitchen to discuss the matter with the chef and he would " come back shortly" But he didn't return. At all, ever..... He hadn't left the restaurant because we saw him chatting to other customers at the bar, on our way out. At the same sitting, I was given Ravioli in a rather sickly cream sauce, instead of the Canneloni dish which I had ordered. I didn't complain because we had already questioned my partners dish, so I just eat the meal, which I didn't enjoy. So this restaurant has lost 2 regular customers due to what appeared to be odd, bizarre behaviour by the manager. I notice that Portofino, New Brighton, don't respond to any of these reviews; They obviously don't care, not interested. They should be . If you go there, be careful that the staff have properly understood your order, and reject it if it isn't exactly what you ordered , is my advice.

Took my daughter and her friends to celebrate her 13th Birthday , so 2 tables , one for the girls , one for my wife and step mum. The staff were amazing , welcoming and friendly as always, the food was delicious , they allowed us to serve my wife's home made cake , sing happy birthday etc . Couldn't nor have asked for a better time , so a huge thank you to Est for a brilliant day
