#colwynbay Straight in 10/10 👜 handbag restaurant review for all the food today especially the ‘perfect’ Baked Alaska 👏👏This is one of our favourite restaurants. Check out the open kitchen it’s immaculate. Love the fab views overlooking the sea. Love the vibe in here very relaxing. Well trained and informed staff all in uniform and kitchen staff and chefs in clean whites. There is also a cafe to the side for walk ins from the beach. Great to walk or cycle along the coastline outside the restaurant. Highly recommend you try here for breakfast/lunch/afternoon tea and dinner 😁 We will be back.

What a mediocre experience! We had for starters Squid, Roast Prawns and one other which I can’t remember, which sums the experience up. For mains we had whole plaice which was under cooked and fish pie for two which was completely overpowered by the Smoked Haddock and also lacking in sauce. The worst component of this dish was MUSHROOMS ! I’ve yet to see a Fish Pie recipe containing mushrooms especially as they add absolutely nothing to the dish. We travelled 108 miles because of the chefs reputation only to be served food we could have cooked better at home. The one highlight was the staff did their best but the overall experience was well below par.

Had an 8.30 booking on a Saturday night as could not get in any earlier. We were a party of 4, arrived a few minutes early and had a drink at the bar before being seated at our table which was ready on time. We all had 3 courses which were enjoyed by all. A little disappointed with the overall service as we had to get the attention of the waiting staff during our meal to order more drinks. Overall a pleasant experience, reasonably priced and excellent quality food but a little let down by lack lustre service and very overpriced drinks.

Warm, friendly, informed staff. Small menu of great food. It would be a challenge to top the location, nestled in the middle of a Sandy bay. Bryn was happy to talk about the honey he had gathered from his home and how they might use it.

The food is excellent although slightly small portions and the atmosphere in the restaurant in the evenings is lovely looking across the bay. The service however needs some improvement. I counted five smashed/dropped trays during the evening and the main waiter/manager I saw flipping the middle finger at someone possibly to kitchen staff. Nothing major, just not what you expect from somewhere like this. The other waiting on and bar staff were great, attentive and pleasant. I'd be happy to go back for the food and views, just hope the service picks up a bit.

Seen this place a few times passing and it looks an interesting place to visit, so the other day after a good walk from the Little Orme along the seafront,we called in to the cafe side. There where two cheese baguettes on display which we bought along with two teas served in paper cups - quite normal these days. The bill was on the steep side costing over £14 and sat against a long bench type structure to have them but on opening the baguettes, we couldn't believe how hard they were and probably would have broken some teeth.Checking the sell by dates revealed one was out of date whilst the other had to be eaten that day,so presumably these would have been prepared some days previously. My partner took them back and they didn't have anymore fresh ones and offered a refund but that couldn't be done unless authorised by the manager who did come over eventually but you got the impression he wasn't happy about doing it.One of the chefs( there are many) came over to inspect them and it looked like he was trying to dispute the quality of the things. You felt an atmosphere was developing and we left shortly afterwards and will not be back.

Saw this restaurant in the Michelin guide. Nice restaurant in a beautiful setting. Service was pretty busy during the breakfast. However, we didn't have to wait long for our orders to come. The members of staff were all nice and friendly, although we had to make an extra effort when we want grab their attention asking for the bill. All of them seem a bit disorganised. Taste, portions, and pricing of the food were reasonable. We enjoyed our breakfast experience with the beautiful view and went for a walk a long the beach after our meal. We struggled to find a sign about the parking charges, hopefully this could be sorted as we'd like to come back when we are in the area again.

Food was good but service and choice of beers was poor For our xmas event i was pleased to hear we'd be visiting Bryn's at Porth Eirias. The restaurant was full but pre-booked hence I guess this wasn't a surprise to the staff. We were on a pre selected menu which had a good choice and the food didn't disappoint. The portions could have been slightly bigger but taste is king and it was good. The issue we found was that the time between courses was long and some in our group had finished their courses before others had been served. Similar was true of getting drinks, due to the waiting it took us 3h to get through our three courses in which we were only asked twice if we were ok for drinks. Once at the start and then once just before our mains. TBH that wasn't a bad thing as their choice of beers were quite poor. It was good to see that they has welsh beers but they were quite plain and to have Wrexham export as the standard beer shows their more into the name than the taste. If Wrexham hasn't been taken over by hollywood you'd never choose that lager on taste. Also, the other options seemed to be ticking boxes like gluten free, etc.. If they want local beers they'd be much better served if they asked truly local breweries like Wild horse and Black cloak to provide them with more flavoursome options. I may go back to sample the food again but I hope they sort out their management / training and drinks selection before that.

Booked to go here as it was in the Michelin Guide however felt it didn't really meet our expectations. Taste wise it was no better than average restaurant. Would not recommend the prawn starter, you have to peel it yourself however it wasn't cooked enough so the shell was hard to take off (the meat was cooked but just not to where the shell should naturally peel easily) and the sauce that came with it detracted from the taste of the prawns. The charcuterie is also so so. Wouldn't recommend The crab starter and main however was delightful. Monkfish was OK but the fishcake was so so. The dessert cheese was our first time having it and the waiter said it was similar to brie. Texture yes. Flavour no. Unfortunately it wasn't to our palate and I love majority of cheeses. As it was first time having I cant say if the cheese was meant to taste like that or it had sweated. Our main waiter was delightful however.

We come here often as we know it's really good quality food, that said it's regularly not cooked well and we have to send things back, last time it was the squid which the chef agreed was under cooked/ raw. This time, the monkfish was undercooked and inedible, each time the chef agrees that it isn't cooked correctly - why can't it be right?

We eat here regularly as it's good quality food, that said it's not always cooked well, very regularly we have to send things back and there's always a half hearted apology, the 'chef' then pokes it around a bit and agreea it wasn't cooked right. Really at the price and attaching it's name to a Michelin recommended chef it should always be good each time and every time?

Very disappointed! we went for my husbands birthday. To eat, we shared fish pie which was really dry, more peas and potatoes than fish and tasted like it had been frozen! We all felt our meal was rushed to accommodate ‘walk-in’ customers. This was our first visit, The room itself is not great (and the building unprepossessing to say the least), though the sea view is lovely. It’s a very hard place, rather reminiscent of a canteen and really needs some work on the acoustics which are awful. The food is good and interesting, though I always feel that there should be some consistency in terms of complete/incomplete dishes: for example, the crab claw linguine (eaten by one of us who thought it delicious) is a complete dish: the plaice isn’t and needs addition sides to make it so. (By the way serving Jerusalem artichokes with a couple of fried sage leaves really does not constitute ‘seasonal garden vegetables. The fennel jam was, however, one of the nicest things I’ve ever eaten. Nevertheless, we had a lovely meal – in terms of the food. The waiter was either having a really bad day or needs more training. He spoke at great speed and with little clarity; he dropped things; he knocked our drinks all over the table and floor, etc., etc. Not the best customer experience really. However, I have little doubt that we’ll be back

Was really looking forward to this. Positives - views are amazing - mackerel scotch egg was lovely. - Tarter sauce was nice. Negatives - daily catch fish fingers - poor, fingers weren't anything special - fries were (I believe) frozen - Crushed peas tasteless - seasoning required all round. - chicken was bordering on 'just' being cooked Drinks - asked for a pint to be given a bottle, maybe they don't do pints but the waitress didn't say. Price - well overpriced for what we got. Summary Not sure the meal we had would have passed muster for any Michelin judges. Probably won't return for anything other than the views.

Great restaurant in lovely sea front location. Food was good except the chips were over salted-admitted by staff, and several dishes were “heavy” on mushrooms, the plaice and the fish pie in particular. The restaurant staff were really helpful. We had booked online two separate tables because no 4-person one was available but the man on the welcome desk found us one. The food was delicious and the views across Colwyn Bay are stunning. The woman on the take away counter was also really helpful and nice, when I bought a coffee and cake, later in the day. The only thing that marred the experience was the toilet cleaner who challenged me about whether I eaten in the restaurant. It was so unexpected. Other people were also using the toilets and weren’t challenged, though it may have been because she could only question one person at a time, rather than specifically targeting me. The toilets and foyer look like a council leisure centre, and I would have thought open to anyone. So even though I had eaten in the restaurant and entitled to use them - according to her rules - surely anyone needing the loo could use these facilities.

I was recommended this restaurant from my hotel in Penmaenpool and made the trek over. I didn't mind waiting for a table at all as I was looking forward to a lovely meal. I ordered crab linguine and was bitterly disappointed. The sauce was very, very watery. Slid off the pasta and didn't coat the spoon at all. Just slopped around the plate. I asked for some bread to mop up the sauce to try and at least take advantage of the small flavour present and was given two stone cold, as in had refrigerator chill, slices of chewy sourdough. In the end I gave up. I ate 1/4 of one of the slices of bread. You can imagine my surprise when I was then charged £3 for said bread and butter. When I pointed out that there was no butter provided and the bread was refrigerator cold the server (who was the same name as the person listed as manager on their menu according to my receipt), shrugged and said he'd let the kitchen know. However happily continued to take my money. My accommodation said they had met Bryn multiple times and he would be horrified to hear of this quality and service.. unfortunately Bryn maybe you need better quality control 😟 When you travel, every meal is an opportunity and experience, and restaurant is not one I'd recommend.

What a shame, we visited here today after being many times before & ordered coffee and lunch. When I asked for a tap water, I was told that I would have to pay for it! I said no thank you and left. Then I went back in to speak to a manager because under law, as a licensed premises, I understood that they are obliged to provide it. I explained that we had ordered lunch & that I needed the water for medical purposes. The manager was very condescending, talked over me & was clearly very annoyed that I was questioning their policy. He said that they couldn't give free water to everyone, that perhaps I could bring my own bottle next time or I could finish my coffee & use the dirty cup for water, to save them on washing up. Oh dear, what a shame.

Second visit, first time was for lunch last year. Dinner was very good. Starters we chose - gin cured salmon & roast prawns. Mains John Dory & the lamb rump. Extras new potatoes & 'seasonal garden vegetables' which was where it went a bit wrong. We were brought a dish of braised leeks which were a tad tough on the outside and unseasoned. If we'd known it was just one vegetable then we wouldn't have ordered this. Do leave room for puddings, Chocolate crèmoux which comes with toasted & salted pistachios, cherries & the best crème anglaise. Other half had the baked alaska, delicious. Only other whinge, apart from the 'seasonal garden vegetables' is the fact that this restaurant is in a stunning location with views over the bay. We were sitting next to the windows but the view was a bit spoilt by the fact the windows need a good clean.

Where do I start? Upon entering, a relaxed atmosphere. Staff exceptionally attentive. A small but well thought out lunchtime menu. This did not disappoint, a starter of Smoked Mackerel Scotch egg was the order, unfortunately the better half knocked her prosecco all over me and the food. It was almost cartoon like, the way staff appeared around the table and clearing the 'spoiled' food away. Fresh food was delivered within minutes and the experience restarted. Daily catch fish fingers, crushed peas and tartar sauce again excellent. Although I was caught between this dish and Crab Claw linguine. My fellow diner adjacent had ordered the crab claw linguine and confirmed how good it was. Next time I shall order if available. Next came the 'special' dessert Ice Cream sandwich - vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two almond shortbread and a strawberry sauce. delightful. We WILL return. Only called at the cafe as fancied a brew and cake. No proper cakes, i.e victoria sponge or choc cake, just Welsh Cakes, small brownies etc. I actually chose the last sausage roll, which to be fair was very good, hubby had Welsh Cakes. Disappointed that tea came in cardboard cup with wooden cutlery.

You can recognise an excellent chef by the fact that even the simplest dishes can still surprise the palate. The fish creations are excellent, well combined and well portioned. Even simple dishes such as a green salad, steamed vegetables or peas are incredibly tasty. A big compliment to the kitchen! Great restaurant with a beautiful view, modern interiour, courteous staff and good cocktails. If we had been there longer, we would have gone back a third time in a row.

Good points - fabulous location and views out to sea and along the beach front. Bad points - service poor, food average at best. Menu limited very fish oriented. Staff didn’t look happy no smiles at all

This place should have been a shoe-in for a five star review. Great location on the beach and owned by a renowned chef. The day was beautiful too. Service was friendly but the food was really disappointing. We started with prawns with Bloody Mary ketchup - which could have done with having their dirt track removed but weren’t bad. The fried mussels were really tasty and warm but weirdly, served on crushed ice - which kept getting into the open shell. The real issue was with the fish pie. It looked beautiful when it arrived but had no flavour. I mean, plenty of fish and a lovely potato mash top but no taste. Also no seasoning. I would typically be looking forward to some mustard or even cheese sauce background flavour, but nothing! If someone told me the kitchen had forgotten to add 3-4 ingredients and salt and pepper, that would have explained things. So, I made the cardinal sin of eating it anyway because I was hungry and it wasn’t bad. Also, it took 30 mins to make and I didn’t want the hassle of sending it back without knowing it could be improved. We skipped dessert and bailed out. Big shame. I think Bryn Williams needs to do some spot checks on the food that’s going out in his name.

Great location + Views with friendly staff and good food. The only thing that was unusual is the restaurant isn't really separated from the coffee shop area The building has the feel of a council operated facility rather than a restaurant with tired sports centre WC's.

Great food and golf course nearby but same place. Food was good I went there a couple time when I was on holiday. 5 min walk. I loved and like that location.

There was no hot water in the rooms. We were promised a refund after we had to move hotels because we wanted a shower after long days working outside. Unfortunately despite promising refunds in person and over the phone, no refund has been received. The hotel was also run down and staff disinterested, both of which could be forgiven, as it wasn't expensive, if they'd delivered on the necessities. I cannot stress strongly enough how much I would not recommend staying here.
