Been doing this weekend away with my daughters for 6 years and for the last 4 have had our breakfast in "Brunches" and obviously we are very happy as we return each year. This year was so Impressed they have improved the breakfast even above their own high standard. The Bacon is thick cut and proper quaility as always. The eggs are deep rich Yellow and cooked perfectly as always. Black pudding also perfect as was the mushrooms, beans and toast. So you might well ask how have they improved it????They have added a "MEGA" and retained the quality and all for £7.50 that's value..The service is always polite and efficient and finally clean toilets.WELL DONE

I can't recommend this place enough after years of coming to Weymouth it's the first time I have come across it sadly on the last day of our holiday. So didn't get to visit again it's such a lovely place. The staff are so welcoming couldn't do enough for us. My dogs were as well looked after as we were. A bowl of water, biscuit and a stroke for them both. Our food was great and a plenty to chose from my husband had a breakfast and I had a toasted sandwich. Both very nice and reasonably priced.Loved how the cafe was laid out too snug benches meant my dogs could rest under the table peacefully.

I visited this cafe mid-week mid-afternoon when it was fairly quiet (3 sets of customers, including me). I ordered an all-day breakfast and a mug of tea. Service was prompt friendly and polite. They were happy to add more milk to my tea when I asked (I like my tea milky). The food was good: tasty, plenty of it and reasonably cheap. Dogs are welcome, so next time I may bring my dog.

A very busy cafe on a cold Saturday in February. This should be ideal then for a hearty fry up. However the first thing you do notice is that the cafe is tired and dated. The staff are very busy, friendly and constantly on the go. The drinks arrive and the toast and then the breakfasts, the breakfasts that should be so much better. The sausages are not quality items, cooked well but pretty tasteless. The eggs were below standard too. And the black pudding that I paid an extra 90 pence for was just the one thin slice, pretty mean as portions go. There we have it then two farmhouse breakfasts at around £7.50 each ...... just average in all respects.

Went to Brunches today at 1pm as my regular Cafe in St Mary Street was closed due to power failure, I ordered a Breakfast and my girlfriend ordered a Brunch, also two glasses of diet coke, the waitress took our order and returned shortlet with two glasses and two cans, she through them on the table and the glasses nearly rolled off and would of had we not caught them, she saw and said sorry and we just laughed it off, after 5 mins or so out food came out, my girlfriends looked ok but her sausage was black and hard and her beans had been over cooked, my breakfast was the same beans well done sausage over cooked, mushrooms shrivelled up looking like rubber, I cut the sausage up and it had a hardened skin on it that was black, clearly this all had been pre-cooked and thrown in the deep fat fryer, the only fresh thing was the egg, however this was undercooked and snotty. I called the waitress over amd said that I was not happy with this as it was overcooked and burnt, and the mornings dregs put in a fryer, dhe took it away and said nothing, I never had an apology from her or the owner who came past me a few times, nothing more was said. Could not believe it, no offer of puting it right or anything. My girlfriend partly finished her brunch left her burnt beans and sausage and went pay, they only charged for the brunch and two cokes but still no apology or explanation. Im a local businessman and operate a food premises in the same street, and I am completely shocked at this service from one of the oldest business's in Maiden street. From now on I will stick to Upstairs Downstairs Cafe in StMary Street!

4 of us ate here on a lunch time. When we arrived the place was very busy, a good sign. I ordered a mega breakfast and it was - well - mega! Other members of our party ordered a smaller breakfast and a jacket potato with prawns. A fourth member ordered lasagna, only to be told it had sold out. He then ordered sausages and mash. Despite the fact that the place was busy the wait for the food wasn't too long. The food was freshly cooked and well presented and plentiful! This place is pretty basic, but clean and tidy. There are some distractions - like the staff member sitting at a table cleaning plastic plate covers, why do this in the restaurant, in view of customers? This place does outside catering and I guess that was what the plate covers were for. Weymouth is overrun with "average" eateries, this place is a cut above a lot of them. It's not in the main shopping streets and as such is probably frequented by locals more than holidaymakers. It is one worth seeking out though when in Weymouth.

Similarly the bbq chicken, bacon and cheese panini is delicious and is my go to choice for lunch. For those of you looking for something a little healthier the jacket potatoes are stacked with fillings and the salad is more than generous. The staff here are happy to help and more than willing to make your meal the way you want it (after all we can all be a little picky at times ;) ). MORE AT TripAdvisor

I've been in once or twice before and the food was okay but was nothing special. The lady with the short dark hair always seems moody too. However this time I came in for a quick lunch with my boyfriend before work and there was a large group of people sat behind us who had clearly finished eating a while ago but who's plates didn't get cleared until half an hour later after they had already left. I ordered a cheese toastie and coleslaw as a side, and my boyfriend had their 'brunch' his food was fine. Mine on the other hand was barely worth having, a flat toastie no where near worth the price of asking. It came with cheap crisps and only a handful at that. The coleslaw was rancid and I'm a lover of coleslaw! I couldn't stand it. So I scraped it off my plate and picked up the ketchup bottle thinking it would make it taste better because at this point it was all just a tad disappointing and I was hungry so rather than complain I would get on with it, I'm a firm believer in 'everyone makes mistakes'. So I pick up the ketchup bottle realising it's not got a lot in it so I shook it to get it to the nozzle, felt something odd about what was inside so opened the lid and the ketchup literally exploded in all directions. It went all over my shirt, which is now ruined. It went all over the wall and my seat, over my plate and my drinks glass as well as the table and my bag which was next to me. Clearly I had been the victim of some sort of practical joke as I had seen this on a video on Facebook before. Annoyed, my boyfriend asked the blonde waitress for some blue roll because 1 10cm by 10cm napkin each wasn't gonna fix my problem. She handed some over but never offered me a hand or a wet cloth or anything. The lady with the dark hair who I assume is the owner came over to me and said 'what's happened here' and so I told her about the explosion as she looked me up and down in disgust and looked at the wall she obviously blamed me for and she said 'oh.' And walked away. To this I was fuming. We were asked to pay full price despite walking out without eating our whole meal and I was embarrassed and hacked off. We paid and left. Even though this may not have necessarily been their fault, I would have expected some sort of help because we were customers in their establishment. It's safe to say I won't be going back.

MORE AT Just Eat

If you want a decent cup of coffee or a nice snack then Brunches is just the place to get it.It isn't in a main shopping street but tucked a few yards away in Maiden Street with the simplest way to get there being up St Alban Street, across St Mary Street and on for 20 metres to Maiden Street. Brunches is almost on the junction and can be spotted through its menu blackboards outside.Little swing doors lead in to a mixture of seating from standard chairs to settles, the walls carrying blackboard details of various drinks, meals and home-made specials. Toilets are upstairs and there is free wi-fi.We ordered Americano and Cappuchino coffees and paid £3.60 which was very reasonable as some town centre sites charge more than £5 for this.Staff were friendly and wlecoming, the tables were clean and service was prompt. For those wanting a meal then there was everything from a range of breakfasts to baguettes and sandwiches, all again reasonably priced.Eating out for a family visiting the town or on holiday in the area can be expensive, so this site is a welcome little financial haven with good quality food and drink.

Popped in here for a quick lunch on a rainy Saturday. I cannot criticise the food, which was tasty and plentiful. However there were a few details which we felt let the place down. My granddaughters meal was served on a tea plate and looked like it had been waiting a while for ours to join it. There was no atmosphere, no music, no real 'welcome' as such and it took a good while to be served. The thing that struck me the most was how scruffy and dirty the waiting staff's clothing was. I know that it is impossible to stay clean doing this kind of work, but one of the older ladies serving looked filthy, which was off-putting. A shame really because this has definitely put us off from visiting again.

Mixed review: A warm and friendly welcome, clean and tidy. Day one: breakfast was lovely, all appeared freshly cooked so it took a little longer, the food was nice and of great value. Feel like there was a whole can of beans for the 'beans on toast' and it was piping hot. The pot of tea was plentiful The 'coffee' milkshake was more like warm milk, not the best. Day two: ordered the thick shake this time - meant to be with ice cream and so thought that would make it cooler and tastier - wrong, it was the same as the previous visit with cream and sprinkles - not the best (if you want a nice thick iced coffee, visit the White Stones cafe). The food took a bit longer again as it was Sunday and busy. The mushroom on toast was cold but we were on a time crunch, so we couldn't send it back. The taste was nice, just cold and the black pudding was a bit on the rubbery side. Everyone else enjoyed theirs.

We stopped by Portland as tourists from the USA. We got a scone, slice of cake, and two coffees, and they were some of the best we’ve had in Europe! The staff were friendly and helpful too.

A great experience once again. 5th time at The Avenue and it never fails to deliver first class food and service. The students are a credit to the college. Their enthusiasm and attention to detail make the experience a real pleasure. We thoughally enjoyed the lunch and experience as usual and can't wait to return in the very near future.
