Go here every September due to the fact it holds a motorcycle rally. Always have a good time. Evening meals on both Friday and Saturday evenings were very good, and value for money. To be honest, never been here at any other time but it also has a campsite next door literally 1 minute walk, with a good playground for children. Few steps to get inside though, but there are tables outside and in the garden at the side.

Our group of four went to The Brownlow Arms for a meal in the early evening. The pub setting is nice in a quiet small village and first impressions were good. We ordered from their extensive bar menu and were very pleased with the food. All four dishes were very tasty, served on hot plates, by the landlord, who could not have been friendlier. We will definitely return.

Had a 30 mile cycle ride round trip from Lincoln and ended up here for Sunday lunch . It was a lovely day so sat out to eat. I had the roast lamb which was absolutely delicious..tasty and tender and a lovely large portion. My cycling friends chose the beef and the pork and were all impressed with the portion size. My lamb dinner was under £10. Pork was £7.50 and beef £8. Faultless! Set us up for the 15 mile journey home. Will definitely be back to eat. There is also a camp site on site..which is situated next to the river Trent, perfect for long walks!

Camped as a group. Got my car stuck on a metal pole that was hidden in the overgrown grass along the side of the field. There were a few holes, one was so big they put a traffic cone in it instead of filling it in. Apart from that it's not too bad but you do need decent tent pegs as it's very hard ground. The pub was an even worse experience. I have never been anywhere where the service was so bad and unwelcoming. Me and a friend booked a table for 6.30pm, we were shown to a table in a different part of the pub to the rest of our group. 3 staff stood behind a bar while we waited to order drinks. Eventually we got a drink, the diet coke was so flat it was undrinkable. The people on the table next to us had waited 2 hours to get their meals and one lady had to ask for hers to be warmed up. At 7.45pm we asked how long ours would be and was told 2 minutes. At 8.30pm we were still waiting, cancelled our order and went back to the tent to find something to cook after waiting 2 hours with a flat coke. The others in our group, in the other side of the pub had just been served after waiting 2 hours. The staff never smiled, the service was appalling, drink was rubbish and I can't comment on the food as it never arrived!! The following day the toilet/shower room was locked and bolted so that we didn't have anywhere to go to when we needed the loo. Later it was reopened, I'm guessing there would have been complaints. One toilet was blocked and out of order with a sign on the door. There was still one toilet in good working order but we had been denied that. The toilets were never cleaned by staff, there was no toilet paper, nothing to dry your hands on, no hot water to wash your hands and we had to put water into the hamdwash bottle as it had run out. The other campers on the field were very friendly and welcoming, the staff in the pub unfortunately were not!

As of today 22nd July 2019 this pub is under new ownership. I trust the pub will continue to be Great with pub grub and smashing staff once the new owners settle in. My previous review was as follows ....The pub has it's own style which makes a more interesting visit. Plus a touring caravan site and kids play area and there is a speed boat and water skiing club on the river Trent just a few hundred yards to the front of the pub. We eat here about once a week, and today had the deep pan spicy chicken pizza and I think it's the best i've ever had....right up my street, so photo added.

Gone downhill. Waited over an hour for my meal. The rest of my party had finished theirs so I ate alone with hardly an apology from the staff. Disgusting camping facilities too, toilets and showers were minging. Used to love it here but don't think I'll be going till some if the profits have been spent on the people's facilities who provide the profits! The meal was paid for when we ordered it. My daughter waited over 1 hour for a plate of cheesy chips and hers, along with mine and my wife's, and our other two families of friends were all ordered AND PAID FOR at the same time. Mine came half an hour after my daughters who waited over an hour for hers! I brought 2 other families with us on my recommendation and felt I'd let them down, I could see their disappointment. This revue is edited as the Brownlows reply stated inaccurate comments and actually accused us of not paying! Endé me duck!

This was a Monday lunchtime meal for 6 friends, and due to a cancelled walk beforehand because of the heavy rain, we arrived very early, but as our reserved table was available we were promptly seated. Excellent start, and having been given menus, ordered drinks and placed meal orders everything was fine. Starters arrived, a couple of Garlic Mushrooms with Rustic bread looked fine. My Japanese Karaage dish ( chicken pieces in spicy batter with harissa) wasn’t great, the batter whilst crispy on the outside, was soggy inside and the chicken pieces inside were very small, not breast meat but looked like thigh. The harissa was actually a harissa inspired mayo dip, very spicy but nice for it. For main course, three of us had Sea Bass fillets with crushed garlic potatoes with a wine and cheese sauce with green beans and carrots. Very nicely presented, however I’ve never had a plated meal which was so hot ( except for oven baked lasagne, fish pie etc) in particular the potatoes which were sliced and not crushed. At a guess, the plated meals had been waiting under the heated lamps on the pass for some time whilst other meals were ready. The sea bass was rather dry because of this, but copious amounts of white wine and cheese sauce provided in a gravy boat moistened the fish nicely. However, I’d much rather have a very hot meal rather than tepid or verging on cold as I experienced on more than one occasion. Our friends had a chicken and mushroom pie (thick soggy crust), a lamb and mint pie, and a plain butterflied chicken breast, all with accompanying vegetables, everything well presented. After this we waited and waited and waited, then had to shout to the bar for dessert menus half an hour after finishing main courses. Desserts weren’t great, 3 of us had a gluten free NY baked cheesecake which was very grainy and not pleasant, the mixed berries were not defrosted properly and the ice cream was bland. Others had apple and blackberry crumble and no one managed more than half of their dish, which comprised roughly 70% crumble and 30% fruit. Unfortunately not many complements were forthcoming. Again after finishing desserts we had to shout to the bar for attention for hot drinks to finish with. Coffee was nice, but the tea drinkers weren’t impressed, there was ‘just tea’ available, no varieties, and what arrived was very weak. The cardinal sin, apart from having no Sticky Toffee pudding available was that there was no interest in clearing our dessert dishes away, and these were left in front of us until we vacated the table to pay at the bar. At this time the pub wasn’t busy and staff were more interested in chatting to themselves rather than dealing with diners. Not once throughout our meal were we asked if everything was alright with our good. Maybe they were embarrassed by the about of food left uneaten on everyone’s plates. From their website and meal descriptions it looks like The Chequers is positioning itself as a Gastro pub, but it’s nowhere near to what I’d expect. It’s difficult to pin down an identity for their cuisine, having American, Chinese, Thai, German, English, Mexican, Mediterranean, Japanese, Moroccan and Italian dishes on the menu, but my suspicion is that many of the meals are bought in meals preprepared for catering. I may be wrong here, but that’s how it looks. Overall we thought it was a less than average experience which wouldn’t be difficult to improve with a bit of attention to detail, quality over quantity and better consideration from the serving staff. Oh, and the wi-if was not working 🤷🏻‍♂️

We came here for a carvery meal which was good except for the amount of meat we were given which was tiny, half a slice of turkey and half a slice of beef, we had expected a bit more. We went to order a dessert but had run out of our choices so we didn't bother.
