Brown Sugar in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

I came last week, first thing and booked which was good as it got busy quickly, the staff were wonderful so friendly. I ordered the pancakes and the eggs Benedict and both were perfectly cooked and delicious. Coffee was great to, can’t wait to return.

Had cream tea which we booked online the day before, gets busy as very popular. Scones were super tasty and got just the right amount of jam and cream. The tea was good also. Good service and priced well. Highly recommend this place

This is in the centre of the town with outdoor seating which is helpful for dog owners. There’s plenty of choice of cakes, including vegan and gf options. Our cakes were delicious, well worth a visit

Lovely table outside. We had the Salt & Chilli Chicken Tacos and The Squeaky Burger and both were amazing. The best latte I've had in years! Great value for money.

After deciding to seek out a cream tea whilst in Fowey, we thought this cafe looked very nice to try. We weren't disappointed, the scones were very light and were warm. Generous portions of jam and clotted cream, plus a large pot of tea, and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended

I don’t write reviews often, but after visiting this place I just had to! The drink I had (Caramel oat milk latte) was the best I’ve ever had! The food was incredible and very quick even though the it was very busy in there, and it was amazing value for money. I also have to mention the service, the staff were always smiling and were very approachable and accommodating. Special mention to the girl with the tattoo who was super cute. I 100% recommend this establishment to anyone visiting Fowey.

Coffee was very small , less tasty than a cheaper brand .Two small take aways Nearly £7.00 .. Avoid if you like a value for money .

Of all the eateries we frequented in Fowey last week, this was the most disappointing. We were given a seat just inside the door by the counter, on the face of it a lovely spot for breakfast and people watching. First gripe was that not one of the 3 staff members mentioned that orders were not taken at the table, so we lost our place to several large groups who came in after us... not really a big deal, we weren't in a hurry luckily. We ordered a tea, a coffee, an avacodo/egg on toast, and a simple scrambled egg on toast.... WE WERE CHARGED AN EYE WATERING £31:18. The menu lauded the scrambled egg as " luxurious and creamy" .. it was dry and very average... the avacodo on the other dish was just a blended smear on the toast.... Very poor fare. By contrast, the breakfast we took the following day at Haveners, was perfection. I recommend you consider another venue for breakfast.

Popped in here for breakfast while working at a pub on the quay, good as always, hot food, fresh and not long to wait. Deffo visit again

We went here on a wet and windy day and found some much needed warmth and food. Lovely little cafe with super friendly staff and the yummiest cream teas.

“The pancakes were very chocolatey but overall it was yummy” says my son. Breakfast choices, including veggie and vegan, were great. Coffee was excellent. Service was friendly and helpful. Really loved the space and will return

We booked a table for brunch on our last day in Fowey: 5 of us and a dog. We woke to a snowy morning, so brunch was even more welcome! Two members of staff were particularly friendly and chatty, and the breakfasts we ordered (all full English) were spot on. It was a nice, cosy spot to spend an hour or so.

Food wasn’t cooked so returned it only for the replacement to be burnt and not cooked through…. Staff were understanding and other meal and drinks were fine. Dog friendly.

An hour without children so decided on a light lunch at Brown Sugar! What a great choice… on entry we were greeted warmly by the team. Ordered our drinks seamlessly and took our seats. The coffees came they were hot and delicious even with a pretty pattern! Proving great barista skills. After deciding on what to order from a fantastic selection of dishes. We placed our order and with in 15 minutes we were delieverd our food piping hot and excellently presented. I ordered the burger it was epic! And my wife had the sweet chilli chicken ciabatta again excellent! The staff were chatty and friendly nothing was too much hassle. A real joy to experience! Thank you

While staying in Fowey we have visited this pretty cafe several times. Upstairs has more comfortable seating area. They’re cappuccinos and hot chocolates are large and delicious. Lunch we had crab sandwich with salad, coleslaw everything was fresh. Burger with chips, onion rings, salad and coleslaw. The food is more restaurant high end then café food. We will be returning and highly recommend.

We were staying in Fowey for a few days and called into Brown Sugar for breakfast a couple of times before our walks. Great friendly staff and a fabulous (if a little expensive) cooked breakfast. Very tasty and a a good cuppa to go with it.

My husband and I popped into Brown Sugar while on a day out in Fowey. We’d gone out without having breakfast and were very hungry; and thought Brown Sugar looked like a good place for some breakfast. How right we were; the portions were very generous, everything was cooked to perfection and the service was excellent. I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict which was the best I’ve ever had. Yes the prices were a little higher than you’d find in a greasy spoon, but it was obvious that the ingredients were high quality and not covered in grease. We will be back!

Good coffee and beautiful breakfasts. Very popular especially in the morning but worth the wait. Cooked breakfasts are my favourite but the stack of pancakes is great. Large portions so we often share.

We were visiting friends and decided to venture into Fowey on the Sunday morning. We’ve been to Fowey before and had noticed Brown Sugar previously so decided that morning to purchase some breakfast sandwiches and coffees to takeaway. My partner and I both had a bacon, sausage and egg sandwich each and a cappuccino each. I was a little taken aback when I heard the price of £25.20 which works out at £12.60 each. The sandwiches were delicious, there is no arguing there, although again we were not offered any choice of seasoning or sauces. Would I go again? Probably not, it’s a little bit on the expensive side for me to what you actually got i return.

Gluten free cream tea for me.. cream tea for my boyfriend. Both absolutely delicious!! Warm scones, good tea. We would definitely return

Cream tea for me, sandwich for my husband who couldn’t finish it so much though not complaining he loved what he ate. Food so fresh. Cream tea had 2 scones which I didn’t realise, staff said no problem you can take away what you can’t eat. True to their word little box with plastic containers for jam and cream. Wonderful friendly staff, loved they had a great sense of humour. Visit this eating place if your in Fowey would highly recommend.

What a great cheerful place for a lunch in busy Fowey. If you can get a seat get in there. Great choice the tuna melt and fish finger sarnie were super. Coffee is great too. Staff are polite, attentive and helpful. Will come again!

Wow wow wow! What a discovery! Lots of fab gf options. Ignore the date of visit as I have popped in on a coastpath walk at least 3 times now but could not specify each time. I would not miss it and look forward to my next visit when I am in Fowey. I would highly recommend. The decor is great, it has a great vibe and the staff are brilliant! Love it.

My husband and I couldn’t possibly have found a lovelier place with lovelier staff. We actively ignored the breakfast included in our hotel so we could spend a couple of mornings at Brown Sugar. Loved it. The food was amazing and the staff were angels. It’s beautifully situated and even though it was super busy, we were made to feel seen! The waitress who served us was a personable and attentive star. The team downstairs were super engaging and made us feel like our business was valued. Please go there! Even if you have to wait a little while for a seat it is worth it! There are much worse things in the world than a short wait for a beautiful morning! Worst case scenario, do a take away and go sit by the estuary :)

We visited every day while on holiday and had a fabulous breakfast every day and hoping to go back in October this year again for our breakfast. Food was amazing and staff were amazing and friendly especially when we were in the pandemic. Keep strong and see you in October

A lovely morning spent eating breakfast at Brown Sugar Cafe on our last day in Fowey. Can’t fault the attentiveness, atmosphere or food quality. To hear that others have been rude to staff during this half-term week must have been so demoralising too all involved but guys, remember, we aren’t all rude, impatient and demanding.You’re all doing a fab job in a very tough climate....be proud! I stopped off to grab a coffee whilst exploring Fowey. The place was relatively quiet, after the post lunchtime rush. Was served by a friendly staff member. I went off to use the loo, came back to collect my coffee and, again, was greeted with the same enthusiasm. The coffee was pretty good too.

Brown Sugar Cafe was my favourite cafe in Fowey. The breakfast was lovely & the cakes sooo scrummy!! Our favourite were the hot chocolates with all the toppings which were amazing to look at as well as taste. All staff were so friendly and although very busy were very efficient and quick to help when needed.

Really great food and very lovely and attentive staff. Highly recommended. We had the most delicious ciabatta toasties, with excellent coffee and fantastic peanut brownies. Yum!

Lovely cream tea in a beautiful little harbour town in Cornwall. Seating is available outside with umbrellas. We would definitely come back!

When visiting Fowey, this is our "go to" place for breakfast, drinks, and other snack-time occasions. The staff are very welcoming, the service great, and the food and drink are fantastic.I love dropping on after doing an early morning walk around the Fowey Hall Walk or along the coast.This cafe has a lot of character, despite its small size, and is in a prime position in the middle of Fowey. There is seating upstairs and outside when we visited last.Sadly missed out on a Fowey trip this year, but looking forward to visiting Brown Sugar next year!

Had two breakfasts and food was ok. No complaints but nothing exceptional. Service is pretty slow taking about 30 minutes for the order to arrive. Customer service isn't a priority either.

My partner and I stopped here for a cream tea several days ago! We are from nr the Dorset coast and have tried many cream teas, but this was by far one of the best we’ve had. Gorgeous scones and plenty of cream and jam. Staff were polite and helpful. Such a delightful cafe, will be back again to try breakfast! A lovely place to sit, chill and watch the world go by x

I visited here a couple of times during my week stay in Fowey (thankfully before the full easing of restaurants etc).The breakfasts (served then in take away boxes) were delicious. Locally sourced and fresh tasting. Sourdough option was a great bonus.Coffee were great, as were the cakes we had over different visits - I recommend the blueberry flapjack!I found the staff to be very friendly and polite - they even offered to swap the mushrooms for something else, as I can’t stand them!I hope the team realise that not all tourists are ignorant - hopefully I’ll be back down to visit soon.

We always get our early morning coffees from Brown Sugar when staying in Fowey. Staff are lovely, food and service is great. When this chaos is over we will be back and hope to see you then.

Brown Sugar is an absolute gem. Great menu, delicious food, delightful staff. I visited with my family and everyone loved it. Highly recommend this lovely cafe and independent business.

We visited Brown Sugar for breakfast twice during a recent trip to Fowey and really enjoyed it. It's in a great location by the church right in the centre, and they have enough tables outside that we managed to seat six of us + four dogs each time without much issue (just a small wait on the busier Saturday). The queue is usually out the door when it's busy, which is testament to how good they are as people stop to grab coffees and drinks while they're passing. There's a huge choice of breakfast options - I had the veggie breakfast and the beans + cheese on toast, both of which were absolutely delicious. Their smoothies/juices are also really nice and refreshing. I can't wait to go back to work my way through the rest of the menu!

Love it here warm and friendly!! Hardly a wait on food but had tables near us complaining, this is cornwall which is known for being a relaxed and friendly environment. Please leave the fast paced life behind when visiting and respect our key workers❤️ Lots of love to everyone that helps make this place so special

We often come to Fowey and visit Brown Sugar - for coffees, amazing hot chocolates and breakfasts. The staff are amazing and the food & drink are equally amazing. This is a little gem in Fowey and deserves five stars 365 days 24/7.

Excellent service and delicious food - scallops were cooked perfectly and a generous portion size. Hubbie was extremely impressed with the olives. Staff were very friendly and could not fault their service despite clearly being extremely busy. We will be back - thank you.

This is the best breakfast, lunch and coffee in Fowey and that’s saying something. The quality of the food is excellent, much of it is local, it’s always well cooked, the coffee is perfect, the cakes are also delicious. Sometimes you may wait slightly longer, but hey check out the queues and the number of people in town, the staff are friendly and efficient, but it takes time to cook a meal from scratch and they are not miracle workers! This is an independent business which strives to deliver the best, well worth supporting, we eat here all the time and have never once been disappointed

A big shout out for this little gem! A really busy bank holiday and you still managed to serve food with a smiles on your faces. Totally understood that we’d have to wait longer than usual - it’s obvious with it being such a beautiful day and so many visitors coming to this gorgeous destination, besides, the food was worth the short wait. The breakfast is outstanding!!! Such a good portion, quality ingredients and cooked to perfection!!!! I wanted to swap a few items for something else as I’m a bit fussy and it was no problem at all!!! Me and my work colleague had a breakfast and it kept us going all day! The staff are really polite and friendly! Can’t wait for my next breakfast I’ll be back next week.

My wife and I visited Brown Sugar for breakfast on Bank Holiday Monday 31st May 2021. The staff were very friendly but we had to wait 40 minutes for food. This may have been due to the Bank Holiday but it did tarnish the experience.The food was OK but we have had better.Probably just a busy day.

Lovely small cafe with friendly welcoming staff!You can tell the love the owners and staff have for this place in not only the decor and set up but the way the staff do the best they can for customers no matter how busy it gets. The food is delicious, freshly prepared, priced right for the current market and well presented. Had the pancakes with bacon and syrup which I would certainly go back for! Husband had the big breakfast which was also a hit.We will be making regular visits here on future trips to Fowey.Thank you to all staff there.

My family and I had a great breakfast here on 19th May. Yesterday it was bad. I didn’t mention at the time in order not to embarrass my children. It sounds petty I know but I had a bacon and sausage sandwich , cost a fiver , with basic cheap sliced bread , precooked tasteless sausages and precooked , hard as leather, bacon. Not good at all

Visited last week sitting outside - The food and service is impeccable. I had the avocado toast, added bacon and some hash browns, everything was made to perfection, perfect crisp on the bacon and the hash browns had so much flavour!! My mum had the avocado Royale, she said it tasted amazing. We shared the maple syrup bacon pancake stacks and it was FANTASTIC. Fluffiest pancakes I’ve had eating out! Service was brilliant, had 2 lovely lattes made by their barista Ryan with amazing coffee art. We were served by Amy and Kayla who were so lovely and made sure we were happy the whole time. 10/10 highly recommend to anyone who wants to pay a visit!!

I can only assume the staff have no customer service training whatsoever. After standing at the front of the queue for what seemed like 10 minutes and still not even been acknowledged, we were met with confusion when we asked to be served only to be told upstairs seating was full. We felt like complete fools. We left and won’t be going back. Otherwise, the place looked fantastic and I’m sure the food was delicious had we managed to get served

I was recommended this place by a friend a work who told me it was fantastic and boy it didn't disappoint! Covid restrictions were in place and managed very well, I have an autistic son who gets very anxious about things and after a few mins even he was happy! RESULT!! The food was amazing, wait time was perfect, and the staff were incredibly friendly. What more could you possibly ask for! It was quite simply perfect! Adam, Kernow

Excellent place in all respects. What a find !! Very friendly service, COVID compliant. The food is very very good. Tasty and good value. II only wanted hot water to drink with my lunch and they were very graceful and exceptionally friendly and helpful. I didn’t mind being charged £1 for hot water since you are using their electricity etc. My husband had crab sandwiches which were delicious, they came with a good salad and chunky coleslaw was the best I’ve had in a long time (my meal also came with coleslaw) the side of fries were also really good and crispy. Don’t hesitate to come here any time. My husband said the Coffee was very good as well. I had the warm ciabatta falafel with roasted vegetables and chips on the side. There was so much I could only eat half ! It was also very tasty.Please support this lovely little cafe.

We stumbled on this amazing coffee house on our first day. We just kept returning. Our final day we treated ourselves to the eat in breakfast. All 4 of us cleared our plates. Great produce.

We have just had a trip to Fowey and stopped for coffee and a quick snack. What a find, a lovely cafe we sat upstairs and just chilled for a while! We had the crab tacos and coffee and walnut cake with coffee. Friendly staff and great food. Book if you intend going there as it still a busy season and because of Covid. We will look forward to going back there when we come to Cornwall in the future.

This is a fabulous cafe with seating both outside and COVID aware on the first floor. The food is glorious - crab sandwich OMG. All food is well prepared and well served. Service excellent, staff helpful and efficient and always with a smile.

We went for breakfast, nice menu, good selection, food was good but staff were surly and miserable. No real customer service. Small tables for 5 people, not really enough room. still quite tightly packed in considering distancing. Would rate food as a very good, but service and customer attention needs work.

We visited this cafe on Wed 26 Aug we first opted for a table outside my husband waited there whilst myself and my son went into order our 3 drinks and pre-packed 2 scone with jam and clotted cream and paid around £8. On returning to the table we were bothered constantly by wasps so we went inside to ask if we could opt for the inside seating the girl behind the counter said she would just check with a colleague and was told no as they would need to do a deep clean and would be closing at 5pm. Considering it was almost 50 mins until 5pm there would have been plenty of time to clean a table (even deep clean) for 3 people. We then decided to then trek back to the car and once we eventually arrived only to find one of the scones was still uncooked inside and the dough still sticky. We feel that this was a very unfriendly service and they really could have offered us indoor seating not only would this have been comfortable I could have exchanged the scone for a cooked one! The thought of walking back into Fowey to do this was not relished. This did spoil our visit to what is a very lovely place.

Crab salad tacos and a toastie were a delicious lunch at this very friendly cafe. Staff were really pleasant and made us feel welcome. We sat outside in the sun watching the world go by. A good choice of snacks for lunch. Would happily return. The crab tacos were a really good size - three wraps filled with salad and crab.

Fowey was very busy and came across this place with its upstairs dining. 4 delicious lunches, very happy.

Great staff, great place, great food, great prices. Everything was done perfectly. After being quite disappointed with other places we have eaten this place was a breath of fresh air. We came for breakfast and will be returning. The staff were so friendly and made us feel welcome. I loved the decor and well my pancakes were just delicious!

Ate here for lunch as a family of four (+ dog). Very busy August day so surprised that we were alone in the first floor restaurant area, but it soon filled up. Huge portions of ether crab or vegetarian tacos. I had a very filling sausage and onion ciabatta, and the vege-burger was also huge. Friendly service, although have to wait a bit for food to arrive. Really enjoyed lunch here.

Every time we walked by it was always busy, which is a good sign. I was desperate the for the halloumi fries, but we never got a table outside or upstairs. We did get some coffees to go and they were very tasty.

We stumbled across Brown Sugar one lunchtime on holiday. We had smoothies, a tuna melt, some halloumi fries and one of the best halloumi and mushroom ‘burgers’ I’ve ever had. Super friendly staff, good menu... and the coffee was decent too.

Stopped in on a rainy Wednesday. Party of 4 had mix of crab tacos and ciabattas. Good salad with each and a nice vibe to the place. Much better value than the harbour side eateries as well. A lovely fresh lunch.

Only place open for breakfast but luckily didn’t disappoint - had both veggie and vegan full English breakfast options, and only £7 each. Looked like good cakes etc too but we didn’t try them! Would visit again.

Food is great! If they haven’t ran out! Staff not sure what they are doing, perfect location with nice outside seating but how can you run out of scones at lunch time in a busy Cornwall town! This happened both times we went, also ran out of 2 or 3 other items off the menu!

The recent review from 4th August 2020 is a tone deaf, uninformed and selfish review made by someone who has apparently been paying zero attention to what is going on in the world. This local business makes everything by hand, on site, and with the utmost attention to quality. If things ran out that might be due to the unprecedented and overwhelming demand placed on a small town by people with a bizarre sense of entitlement.

Fantastic Breakfast at this cafe! The cruffin muffins were exceptional. The outdoor seating was fantastic and COVID-19 compliant with all staff wearing masks as well as an efficient system in place for ordering. Polite staff! I believe I was served by a young lady called Jess who was incredibly polite and sweet. Would visit again.

Ordered two coffees, whilst waiting inside, mask on and social distancing, a man walked in who obviously knew one of the staff members. He was eating ice cream and didn't bother with a mask. He went totally unchallenged by any of the staff. We then sat outside but it was dirty and had food all.over the floor and tables which, given the current situation jist felt out of step with everywhere else and the measures they are going too. One of the staff members was restocking the fridge, mask around her neck. Wasn't a great look considering the rest of the town and eateries are really doing there bit. Nice coffee though.

Popped in to this small friendly cafe for an early breakfast after an overnight stay on the river. We four hungry guys sat upstairs after leaving our orders at the till. The menu had a nice selection with healthier options alongside the full cooked traditional offerings in varying sizes. I opted for scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on granary toast while the other guys chose the full cooked option. We didn't have to wait too long before four fantastic looking freshly cooked breakfasts arrived at the table along with freshly brewed coffee. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and are doing a great job despite the Cv19 restrictions. Many thanks again.

Had breakfast at Brown Sugar yesterday. They are offering a sort of seated take-away service for outside, where you place your order inside and they bring your order to your table in disposable boxes, but you can also sit inside upstairs. Note there is no cleaning of the outside tables between each use. There was a nice menu, and food was good. Unfortunately coffee was a little disappointing, cappuccino and flat white came out as lattes. But all in all a decent breakie.

We enjoyed a lovely breakfast in Brown Sugar. Quality ingredients, well cooked and attentive friendly staff. The premises were clean & hygienic, we'll definitely recommend and return.

On entering the coffee shops one way system the chiller cabinet was full of freshly made packed sandwiches, I asked the lady if they could possibly make me a GF sandwich yes no problem the kind lady replied, I even got a piece of GF blondie cake. Great food quality, had scrambled eggs and pancakes with bacon, both really nice. Coffee is on a weaker side, though, flat white is more like latte. Recommend to book in advance, so you can sit inside. The place has some nice views on the graveyard by the church.
