No volver.

It was a hot day and we were shown a table towards the back behind a brick pillar which seemed uncomfortable but when a table at the front which opened out into the street we asked to be moved. A good decision! The service was lovely and friendly but a a tad inefficient in that the wine took two reminders, the mains were served before we had finished the starters and my husband was still eating as my table was being cleared. We both had a calamari starter which was lovely and fresh. I had prawn Saganaki which was divine but my husband’s chicken souvlaki was ‘bog standard’. I guess it’s luck of the choice. The house wine at £19.50 was not great. The Saganaki was £17 and the souvlaki £15. I loved the ambience and loved having a seat by the Cowley Rd. My big issue was that we that this was a deal provided by the government to boost business during the Covid pandemic. I felt that this restaurant was not reciprocating in taking the seriousness of the pandemic and the generosity of the taxpayers money to fund all is this. There was zero social distancing in that tables were set out pre pandemic, no names taken for contact tracing, no sanitizer on tables, no face masks on waitresses who had to breathe down the necks of people as she was serving as it was so cramped. There was a table of eight young people who were unlikely to have been from the same household so one can see how transition of Covid would be rife in these circumstances. If we hadn’t been on the table open to the street I would not have stayed. This could be a fantastic restaurant but needs to be a bit more responsive to the covid crisis.

Nice venue, shame about the food. This place is new (we think) and we were excited to try it. However we came away really disappointed. The food was lazy and didn't taste fresh. We had fried courgettes which just tasted of old oil. We had filo pastry feta pie which was soggy with no flavour.

We went as a couple without realising that it was part of the government scheme of £10 off and therefore we were pleasantly surprised. Initially we were seated towards the back of the restaurant on a tiny table behind a brick pillar which felt uncomfortable. When a table became available at the open front by the street we asked to move. So pleased we did because it was a very hot day and the Cowley Rd provides good spectator sport. We ordered drinks and had to remind twice before the red wine eventually came. (£19.50 was a high price for a mediocre bottle). We both had Calamari starters which were fresh and with the lightest batter - lovely! I had Prawn Saganaki which was divine and my husband had Chicken Souvlaki served with pitta and chips. He said it was pleasant but bog standard. The price was £17 and £15 respectively. The service was very pleasant but patchy. I mentioned the drink issue and the main course arrived before we had finished the first course. My plate was cleared while my husband was still eating which is awkward. My big worry was that this government incentive of cheaper meals is to give a boost to the economy during this awful Covid pandemic. Sadly this restaurant didn’t do its part. The tables were very close together, The waitresses wore gloves but no masks, our names weren’t taken and there was no social distancing as the serving staff had to breathe down customers backs in order to put food on their tables. No hand sanitiser and I noticed a table of eight young people unlikely to be from the same household sitting at the same table. If we hadn’t got a table by the open front we wouldn’t have stayed.

We’ve eaten here a number of times and it’s reliably excellent - very fresh food, tasty and reasonably priced. Very good for vegetarians but my meat-eating partner says the meat is good too. Cowley road has a lot of options but if you want good food and a mellow friendly vibe, try here!

Came in for a coffee got served by a nice young gentleman so decided to leave a tip, only to find out that all of the tips earned go straight into the managers pocket.
