I realise this is a dairy farm but one of the party had a dairy intolerance and there was no alternative and the person almost seemed offended that I had asked. The gluten free brownie was stale. Disappointing- I don’t think I’ve ever thrown away a cake before!

Great little spot in the middle of the village. Called in after we had visited the ruins. Staff really friendly and a good selection of ice cream. I was tempted by the ice cream (especially the baileys one!) but went for slices of cake instead. The peanut brownie was gorgeous!! The coffee was red hot! which was good to have but I had it as a takeaway and could hardly carry it to my car because it the paper cup was so hot in my hands. Nice little place to call into when in the area.

I’m not a fan of coffee served in a paper cup but the coffee itself was excellent. We both had ice cream cones - very tasty and made on the farm. Great choice of flavours. Later on, having visited the castle (fascinating), I had a bacon and Brie panini and my other half had a bacon sandwich. Both meals were delicious.

Called in for late afternoon coffee after a long Pennine walk. On a warm, sunny day the delicious ice cream was particularly welcome - had Bounty flavour and, I think, Banana Nut Bread. Quite happy with £5.20 for a two scoop cone. However, £6.60 for a tiny latte in a takeaway cup and a cling filmed wrapped, corner of tin Raspberry flapjack was a total rip-off. Although staying in the village, I will enjoy the memory of sitting in the shade, looking at the Castle and enjoying my ice cream but won't be back.

We had walked the Lady Anne’s Way this month but were too tired to make the visit to Brough Castle, one of her castles,so we came back on an afternoon trip. Well worth it. The castle is dramatically set high up on the site of a Roman fort and has helpful information boards of its history and the connection with the Clifford family. And the cafe was a bonus! Lovely coffee and lemon cake and friendly staff. Lots of goodies on sale including home baked Christmas cake ready for icing.

Stopped off for a snack in what looked a promising place. Food was OK at best but the milkshake was appalling. A small paper cup with banana falvoured milk. No ice cream or anything that resembled a traditional milkshake; which at £2.70, I expected. When I stood up to leave, I found my feet sticking to the floor which did not even look very clean. So sad

£4.50 gets you a sad looking sandwich on the cheapest sliced white. £4.80 gets you a kids portion of chicken nuggets and chips. The chips were undercooked and tasted like they were fried in old oil. £1.50 gets you a fruit shoot or a water. The cutlery is all disposable and you have the pleasure of clearing up after yourself as per one of the many signs in bold letters telling you what you can and can't do. Whoever owns this place should never have gone into hospitality. Truly terrible dining experience. The views and play area are nice though, and the castle is very interesting.

Monday 20th June 2022, After visiting Brough Castle. Just down the path is Brough Castle Farm. Brough Castle Farm, has the most wonderful home-made ice cream parlour. My husband and I were in need of refreshments so we both had large ice cream cones filled with delicious ice cream. My husband had apple ice cream and lemon drizzle ice cream. I had Palma violet ice cream and ‘Sheep Poo’ vanilla ice cream with chocolate raisins in it, which was lovely. It dribbled everywhere including down my orange top!!! Still this is fun of eating delicious ice cream. This place is well worth a visit if you are in the area.

I unfortunately did not enjoy this experience. We used to come here lots with my grandma and grandad, but stopped coming a few years ago. Today we decided to give it another go, but within minutes were reminded of the reason we stopped coming. I first noticed the unforgivable misuse of apostrophes (strawberry sundae's) and spelling of the word "purchase". My grandma enjoyed her scone and coffee. The rest of the cakes were a little dry, but served on paper plates! That's not a very environmentally friendly choice? My cousin and I were very disappointed with our milkshakes, which were served in little paper cups and basically just flavoured milk. Now, at a lot of places you "get what you pay for" and don't always expect luxury...but this place is not cheap! We paid £23 for 5 drinks and 3 cakes including a scone. Naming no names but we went to a nearby cafe where 8 of us each got a drink and something to eat for £30... Despite everything, it is in a good location.

Oh dear. Popped into Brough on route to the A66. Ordered tea, coffee and cake. Difficult to sit down as all the tables were dirty, tea tasted strangely stale and the cheap, stale, wrapped up in clingfilm paradise cake also was old- certainly a distance away from paradise-inedible. Not worth the calories nor the £7.00 we paid. Sadly left and carried on our journey. We won’t be returning.

This is a great place stop off when travelling along A66. Literally just off the road. Situated in a small village, it is right next to the castle which is also good to explore as it has free entry. The ice cream parlour itself has a area with benches and a play area. There are sheep in the surrounding fields but none in there (the other reviewer's comment on there being dung everywhere is nonsense. We sat on the grass which was clean and well maintained). Prices are very reasonable too £1.80 for a cone with homemade ice cream. Nice little indoor cafe too. I really couldn't fault the place. Staff perfectly friendly.

My boyfriend and I were viewing a house to rent in the area and were early for our appointment so we followed the signs to the cafe hoping for a light bite to eat and a drink. First impressions weren't great, the fire wasn't lit and the room was quite cold. The reception wasn't much warmer either! We ordered two mozzarella, tomato and red onion paninis, two pieces of millionaires shortbread, an Earl Grey and an English Breakfast tea. Service was distinctly average, zero customer service skills and no smile of any description. The 'food' (I use the term lightly) arrived as did the tea. Mine was not Earl Grey as requested, but it was hot so I didn't bother saying anything. My panini looked empty and was mostly red onion, it had one piece of tomato and not enough cheese to cover neither front to back, let alone side to side. I was so disgusted I took a picture of it. I waited a while for someone to come over and ask how our food was, and then I tried to get someones' attention. In the end, I ate it because I was hungry, and knew it would be ages before I got anything else to eat. It was dry, tasteless and claggy (Yorkshire expression meaning thick and gooey in a bad way!) and I ended up leaving half as I ran out of tea to de-clag my mouth! My boyfriends' was the same. The salad consisted of iceberg lettuce (my pet hate), two slices of pepper and one piece of cucumber. The Pringles crisps were stale and soft. I should have eaten my serviette - it would have tasted better and been more nutritionally beneficial.Moving on to pudding we decided that no-one could ruin Millionaires Shortbread. Surely .... How wrong we were. The proportions were all wrong, far too much shortbread (more clagginess), hardly any toffee and a minuscule amount of nasty cooking (yuk) chocolate on the top. We both used the toilets and they were filthy, with a wet stinking towel to dry your hands on. Although there were only 4 other people in, we still hadn't managed to get anyones' attention by this point so as we had to leave for our appointment, I left them a note on their serviette. I wouldn't return here if they offered me a year of free meals. Disgraceful overpriced food, dodgy hygiene and unwelcoming staff. The house we viewed wasn't right for us either, which was a huge relief as this would have been our local cafe! Lucky escape there then!! No doubt reading the Managers comments to other people who have complained, they won't care and will continue to rip off unsuspecting customers. An utter disgrace!

The Ice cream parlour is in a lovely converted building, nicely fitted out, clean and cosy. There are more than enough flavours of delicious ice cream to satisfy the pickiest palate but it doesn't end there: sandwiches and cake, hot and cold drinks also available, teeny bit overpriced I thought, but nice. The outdoor area is lovely, plenty of table and bench seating, but not particularly great for the less able bodied. The children's play area was good, lots of grass to run around on. There is parking right outside the parlour which is good. Don't forget to allow time to visit Brough Castle itself: there are spectacular views from the tower.

The ice creams are good (although pricey) and the kids can play in the playground. However the selection of cakes was very poor and prices a rip off. Just read the below review and was disgusted by the lies that the lady has told. I was there with two of my friends enjoying an ice cream when the situation occurred. When the lady got up to say about the panini having butter on it, the owner said in a very polite manner that they could make a new one but she would have to pay for an extra one as it wasn't their fault. I heard the owner say at least 3 times that she would have to pay for an extra one to which she agreed 3 times. When it came for her to pay she was told the amount and she willingly passed over her card. As she was asked to put her pin number into the card she asked if she had been charged twice to which it was repeated again that she had ordered another. It was then that the customer became aggressive and threatening and it was embarrassing to watch. The owners carried themselves in a polite manner and not once held her card for ransom!! That lady should be ashamed of herself for trying to bring a business into disrepute. I would recommend this cafe to anyone.

Initially the tearoom seemed nice and the staff pleasant. I ordered a panini for myself and food for my children. Unfortunately the panini came full of butter, and looked nothing like a panini. I can't eat butter but didn't think to mention it as paninis aren't buttered. I took it to the counter and said I was sorry but couldn't eat it. The lady took it back and offered to make me another. When I went to pay the bill I passed the lady my Visa card, AFTER she'd taken my card she stated she would be charging me for 2 paninis!! I was really taken aback and asked why, at which point she became aggressive and rude and refused to return my Visa card until I agreed to pay! I found it incredibly upsetting and intimidating and eventually left in tears with my 2 young children after being forced to pay!! I intend to take this further and write to the Cumbrian tourist board. I would urge people to steer clear of these people. I would hate for this to happen to somebody else! My issue wasn't so much with the money more with the rude intimidating behaviour.

We were visiting Brough Castle and were pleasantly surprised to find this little tearoom. We had tea and scones with butter and jam, they were very nice. Now comes my little complaint, the jam that came with the scones were those little plastic containers with equally plastic jam. Now this tearoom has a a selection of beautiful home made jam and terrific Lemon Curd, I still have it with my toast in the morning, so refreshing. I think it would be great if they would serve their own jams with the scones.
