I got the mcbross and my husband got the chicken parm. I absolutely loved mine it was so good, the flavors complimented each other so well. My husband enjoyed his as well. Excellent!

The salt beef was undercooked by about an hour. It was tasty and a generous portion but difficult to eat. Another hour of cooking and it would’ve been great. Also, they’d run out of lox by 12 noon on a Sunday. Disappointing.

Not as pictured. Bagels were below mediocre and the Beyond Burger bagel definitely did not have a Beyond patty in it.

Great bagels and the workers were incredibly friendly. Great location close enough to the beach to enjoy a bagel there but also far enough away to avoid the worst of the sand

Atmosphere is really cute! Got the buff chik club on an everything bagel. It was pretty good. The bagel was a little hard but alright overall. The buffalo chicken was really good.

Delicious bagels, great vegan options

The service was bad, I was the only customer and wasn't acknowledged for a good five mins while they dealt with online orders. There is a sign behind the counter saying, add fries for 1.50 so I did. When I checked my receipt later they were 3.99. The fries were so salty they were actually inedible. The bagels themselves are fine, a bit expensive. Not worth a visit at all. I don't like writing bad reviews but don't want people wasting time and money here, wish I'd eaten elsewhere in Portobello.

I was in Bross Bagels Portobello today, trying to order a bagel with lox and cream cheese, the most basic and essential bagel item known to man. I was told by two members of staff that this was only on the breakfast menu, which ends at 11am sharpish. They said this was "the new system". I can only hope this policy will be reconsidered. PS The bagels are great, from previous experience, if you can get one.

Waited 39 minutes for our order (which was literally just two bagels) and the bagels were lukewarm and “ok” - nothing to write home about! The server didn’t advise there would be a wait, and it wasn’t until I queried it after 20 mins (when I heard 2 other table say they’d been waiting half an hour) did they say that ours “wouldn’t be long but there are 3 orders in front of you”. When I asked how long orders usually take she said “oh 5-10mins” so no idea why it took 40 minutes. Also planned to eat in but by the time we got the food had to go move the car as had only limited time parking. Won’t be back, really disappointing

Such a disappointment, was just in for a coffee and bagel. We order what we thought would be a quick order; a bacon, egg, cheese on plain bagel. The server had told us it would be a 15min wait for the bagel (rather long in my opinion for such a simple order) However we said that we take a seat and wait. We got to our table which was sticky and unclean, we notice the rest of the shops had food waste, napkins etc. on the floor and waste bins overflowing with rubbish, the shop itself was in a overall unkempt state. After we had waited for 15mins our order still hadn’t been served, in total we ended up waiting 25mins for the bagel, which when it eventually arrived, was cold and underwhelming from what we had expected after waiting so long. In short; untidy/dirty , very slow service and overpriced product. Such as shame for such a hyped up company

Sat in for a bagel and coffee on Wednesday. Coffee ok and chicken parma bagel tasty but difficult to eat as too much sauce and bagels seem to have got thinner from last visit. £8.50 a bit steep to be honest. Music blaring and male server behind counter rude and off hand with customers and in fact not particularly nice to fellow female staff member who he seemed to be training. Female server lovely and professional. Usually visit when in Portobello but will give it a miss now. Disappointing!

Divine fresh and juicy bagel. It was a spontaneous visit and we were very content with our choice. But there are only 4 tables so takeaway might be needed.

Filthy. The floor, the tables, the chairs, all filthy. They had overflowing bins right next to the counter. To top it off, I got a plain bagel (no butter, not even toasted) with two slices of packaged cheese. Will not be returning which is a shame, as it’s an attractive prospect, just dreadfully executed

We arrived at the till and I asked the server what kind of bagel would be best for a kid. She stared at me clueless “ohhhhh, any? I really don’t know”. Because there was a queue and she was staring at me with annoyance I decided to let the next customers go ahead. They bought a big bag of bagels and, after making me wait for 10 minutes the server just told me “sorry no more bagels”. We had to go after waiting at a filthy table. The place looks dirty and gloomy. The service is non existent. Worst place ever. Never coming back.

Absolutely phenomenal! The bagel was filled to the brim, and there were vegan and veggie alternatives for everything on their menu. I had the chicken schnitzel and it was Absolutely delicious. Service with a smile, very friendly.

For the price of the food, I was expecting more. The bagel was over toasted. There was so much mustard and mayo that you couldn't really taste the pastrami. Really not good value when you are paying £8 for just a bagel, no sides, a bagel.

Been a few times to the one in Bruntsfield but thought I’d give the one in Portobello a try. Not disappointed! Great service, excellent quality bagels and nice place to chill out for lunch.

Holy mother of bagels. My bagel sandwich was out of this world. I enjoyed the Morning glory hole with vegan ranch instead of the chili Mayo, and IMMEDIATELY after eating it I wanted another. So delicious. Being from New York I am always hesitant to try bagels elsewhere as they always disappoint. I am happy to report there was no disappointment here. The bagels were thinner than NY bagels which made them PERFECT for sandwiches. The flavor was great too. All in all this place is great, there are so many vegan options, and I highly recommend.

Have been a fan of this place since it’s first small shop opened in Portobello. Being vegetarian, I appreciate the option of “every bagel can be made to be vegan, just ask a member of staff”. The item I usually order has a fee to substitute a veggie option (fine by me) but as of this week it also has had an item removed and the extra fee has gone up by 50% - so I am now paying more for less. Tasty food when done right but probably will not be visiting again.

The place has worsened over the years with rising prices, smaller portions and worse quality food.

The bagels are always very good, but this time the service was excellent. The person working at the counter forgot the lox on my order and she made me a new one for free immediatly and smiling, so nice.

Oh dear!! This place could be so good!! The place was SO untidy and seemed unloved. The bagel was warm, hardly toasted; coffee OK. As you order, you are standing right next to the bins. Bagels were good but sadly can’t recommend here :-/

I ordered a vegan bagel to takeaway, with vegan cream cheese and vegan bacon. The bacon they put on it was real bacon. I ate some of it before realising, which was pretty upsetting as a vegetarian of 20 years. This was on the menu as a purely vegan option, it was not that i asked for a vegan version of a meat-based bagel - and it was also down on my receipt as vegan, plus labelled as such on the packaging, so shouldn't have been an easy mistake to make. I tried to get in contact online to highlight the issue privately, but was ignored. The staff did reimburse me when I went back and complained, but they didn't seem too bothered or apologetic. Just wanted to warn others with dietary requirements to triple check your order and your food before eating anything from here, although I personally wouldn't risk it again.

Went for one of the Buff Chicken Club bagels on the basis that I can't deep fry at home. Tasty, but pricey for what it is. A nice treat but not one I'd be jumping back for if I'm being honest.

Hands down the BEST bagels outside of Montreal. This is what a REAL bagel is! Chewy, slightly sweet and delicious toasted with a shmear of cream cheese and lox. Helpful staff to too!

It’s actually difficult to explain how bad at what they do these guys are. I really annoy myself for going back, won’t make that mistake again though. There always out of loads of stuff, like loads though. At any time of day, not just a few bits at the end of the day. Get the distinct impression they don’t care about this place and entirely focus on other venues.

Well done! Reminds me of NYC! Had a plain bagel with cream cheese and it was fab. A bit crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Cream cheese had the perfect bit of tang. Delicious! Glad I stopped in!

This used to be an amazing place. However I don’t think you can call the fillings food anymore. Everything is heavily processed and the staff seem so sad. I’d take a pass and support other local businesses that care about quality and staff moral.

I used to go to Bross Bagels every Friday for a treat. Then the price shot up so went less frequent. Popped in about 8 weeks ago to see menu in the Portobello Branch. Vegan options all changed and were no longer appealing. In the Portobello branch the floor is very slippery. Its greasy and when wet is extremely dangerous. I nearly slipped once last year in trainers. I spoke to Bross the owner and other staff. They said they washed it etc etc etc and I see it remains dangerous as another reviewer mentioned he slipped. I suggested rubber mats to make it safe/prevent falls. The owner wasn't interested in my suggestions and brushed me off. She didn't appear to care really. It is very dangerous so be careful. It's a matter of time before someone falls. I hope this comment helps with anyone submitting an insurance claim for injury when it happens, as it will. The slippery floor has been brought to the attention of the owner but it appears she has failed to address the issue.

Bought bagels in Portobello branch. Staff surly, floor filthy ( I slipped on greasy floor on way out) Noticed staff without gloves handling bagels. Air heavy with the smell of burning fat. Definitely wouldn't dream of returning.

Having regularly used Bross since 2017 sadly they are now nothing more than a meal deal sandwich. They USED to fill the bagel full and you would feel stuffed from a £7.00 bagel. Now the £9.50 Parm is a dry overcooked small slice of chicken. If you want to order food DON'T go here. I generally stop here every time we visit Portobello. My son simply loves a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon, and I LOVE the Hungry Vegan. The service is okay, can be a bit slow at times. You should definitely go for a bagel, but skip the coffee. I ordered a cold brew that was super expensive (they only had one size) and was about three sips worth of coffee. You’d be better off walking down to Greggs for your coffee. I will continue to stop for bagels though.

Popped in when up visiting our friends- lovely design inside, really cool aesthetic. The choice of bagels was excellent- sadly we arrived late so what we wanted originally wasn't available. This is obviously testament to how great the food is here, but the server unhelpfully didn't tell us what was available meaning we had to individually check each bagel. We all definitely got the feeling she didn't want to be there, and was disengaged and frosty throughout our interaction.

Been here quite a few times now over several months. The bagels are consistently excellent. Very generously filled with delicious ingredients. Cool quirky decor, interesting drinks and friendly staff are extra bonuses. It's tiny though so don't expect to be able to eat in - luckily it's near the beach so you can eat there. If you're hungry and want a really tasty and hearty bagel this is the place!
