Everything took an age to come to the table, when it did eventually come there was hair in the salad! I bought it up to the waitress who said "oh that shouldn't be there" then charged us the full £32 (two sandwhiches, a coffee and a milkshake) and walked off without even offering to remake the salad at the very least, so say it is disappointing is a let down

Family gathering today to celebrate my mother in law’s birthday, usually have had great service in the past, but today was the worst ever. After being shown to our table 15 minutes for our drink order to be taken, placed food order at the same time, even after writing the order down the server had to come and check he’d got it right 3 times, another 15-20minutes for drinks to arrive (and that was only after we had asked where they were). We eventually got served or food some 45 minutes after being seated. Small portions of veg to be shared among the 3 diners that had the roast, when we asked if there were further veg to come we were told no, and not offered any at extra cost. All a bit disorganised there today, not sure if it’s changed hands from the 2 guys that owned and run it, if so you need to up your game. Disappointed visit this time, real shame.

Having always overlooked the Brookside we decided to give it a go. Outdoor seating was pleaseant although service was slow and somewhat lethargic. Drinks order arrived wrong and we had to work hard to get the drink exchanged for what was ordered. A long wait eventually yielded the breakfasts we had ordered, what a disappointment. Nearly £13 for a couple of eggs, a single sausage, some bacon, an undercooked mushroom, a small pot of beans and some greasy potatoes. We finished up and were prepared to take the hit. When asked “was everything okay” I mentioned our experience was not what we were expecting and we were disappointed with the cost compared to what we got. The young waitress handled this well, escalating to her nearby manager who was dismissive and gave a sarcastic remark rather than looking to resolve the issues we had had. Fortunately there was another manager on-site who fortunately had overheard some of the conversation and who I managed to discuss the issues with. We were offered some cake to appease us which was a nice gesture although the cake was tasteless and dry. We ate it not 15 minutes after it being boxed and given to us. I wish we hadn’t taken the chance and instead had a coffee in one of the three superior cafes all visible from the Brookside. Go for a breakfast at Ullacombe Farm Shop instead, you’ll get twice as much for your money and the ingredients are better quality too. Sadly the Brookside has stood still whilst other establishments have worked very hard to be the best they can be. I hope the owners take a moment to look around them and see that they’re falling behind as this place could be great with better staff and more effort.

Been here many times. Staff friendly and food always good.wife had fillet of plaice for lunch.cost nearly 17 pounds. For that had a small and thin plaice fillet. A small amount of new pots and some veg. I know fish isn't cheap but for that price should really be a larger fillet or two of these small fillets.

Appalling customer care! having been shown to a nice table by the window and served our drinks, we were asked to move table because 'a regular customer' who had not booked in advance wanted our table! it was not busy, there were plenty of other tables, we objected but we did move. Our food order arrived with a surly waitress who banged the plates down on the table - we had no smiles, no words of apology and no thanks for giving up our table - how standards have dropped since the departure of the lovely Robin and Mark! We did not feel like valued customers so will not be returning.

A number of good cafes in Bovey Tracey and this is one example. Attentive, prompt and friendly service, excellent varied choice of meals large and small, and open from 9am as we found. Quality excellent, commented on by a visiting French family. Recent comment from Ballymoney observed older people and did so twice. It was a Friday - most people at work, kids at school, great time to go out.

Very pricey for low-quality breakfast food - eggs undercooked and slimy, sausages very low-quality - bacon dry. Only one single mushroom and most of the plate is filled with over-fried potatoes. Service is reasonable and the cafe generally caters for OAPs. Lots of people with dogs in there, and over 90% of the customers were over 70. Hideously expensive (£28 for 2 substandard breakfasts). Tea was awful - very weak indeed.

We both had an amazing plateful of gorgeous sandwiches (egg mayo / chives & brie / cranberry), plus a cream tea, which almost made an afternoon tea. The bread was as fresh as a daisy and the sandwiches were generously filled right to the edge. Together with a pot of peppermint tea, this was perfect for a warm bank holiday afternoon. We have visited Brookside many times and my wife commented that, "you are never disappointed here". Thank you to the friendly staff who looked after us. We will be back soon for breakfast!

We wanted to revisit this cafe because we had been before, we didn't book because we were not sure when we would actually get to Bovey. The inside tables were fully booked at the time we got there but we could have any free table outside and either wait for a place or eat outside. We elected to eat outside because it was a nice day. We we ordered sandwiches and I had a sausage baguette with three two-scone cream teas to follow thinking it would be a nice light lunch. Our food was a much bigger serving than we were expecting accompanied by chips and a lovely salad so in fact, we would probably been better with a one-scone cream tea each! (Not complaining!). What a lovely meal! My sausage baguette was fantastic with a lovely warm crispy baguette and such a nice setting too, Bovey is charming and there is even a delightful stream running past the front. Last week we stumbled across this restaurant due to an unplanned visit to Bovey Tracey after visiting Dartmoor. We were made to feel very welcome for our late lunch, apart from my youngest child we ordered different salads each and they were all delightfully presented and the taste of them were heavenly.

We called in at about 11.30 am and we were pleased to see that they served breakfast up until 3.30. My husband had a full English and my daughter and I had Eggs Royale (2 poached eggs on muffins with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce) I had gluten free toast instead. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the service was very good and all the necessary Covid measures were in place. We felt completely safe. It was a very sunny day and were able to sit in the garden in the shade. A bonus was The Eat out to Help Out scheme was in place, but would not hesitate to pay full price at any other time.

All the necessary Covid arrangements in place. The place looks very welcoming. Own car park and garden (where we ate) very tidy.Excellent variety on menu and breakfast items available until 3pm. Very good service; prompt and friendly. Quality of roast beef dinner and scrambled egg/salmon very good. Two main meals with drinks was £26 which represented good value. We will go back often and can thoroughly recommend.

My friend and I had the lamb for lunch for the second time as we had the same dish last year in October, so we decided to have the same dish again. We both enjoyed our meal and were so full after eating it all.

Not welcoming of children at all and only care about regulars. Even though we used to be regulars! Would never go again. Neither will my friends and family.
