Brook side pub in South Lakeland

Brilliant little local pub found on a weekend away great staff and lovely food drinks slightly more expensive than elsewhere but well worth it.

We found this pub on google maps , wouldn’t have found it otherwise . Really welcoming pub with friendly & helpful staff . We had a meal there which was really nice , served hot & plenty on the plate . Definitely recommend & will go back if ever in the area again .

Visited the Brookside just so my partner could watch the man united vs Southampton match early September. Was a bit sceptical at first but the phrase don’t judge a book by its cover comes to mind. Went in for the match at lunch time left at around 7/8pm having ended up eating there after being persuaded by the superb gent behind the bar who from the first minute made us feel like locals honestly couldn’t do enough for us! I am glad he did the pies me and my partner had were superb! Will deffo be back! Service really does make all the difference!

Fairly basic pub, a bit rough and ready. Went for food as staying in holiday let nearby and mum can’t walk far. Wasn’t expecting much. Wow ! Best fish and chips I’ve had in ages, homemade tartar sauce and mushy peas. Absolutely delicious. Also great selection of beers. Friendly service.

I am local,but have not been in here for many years, I first started drinking here in 1965,a lot has changed since then,the nice swish lounge is now the dining room,it’s a bit rough and ready but does the job, there is a faint whiff of wet dog in the room,not as bad as the Water Mill at Ings which is like a Zoo,but if you are sensitive to smells be aware,it’s good pub grub,we ordered fish and chips which were really quite nice and the beer was good,they always served a good pint here,reasonably priced,staff were friendly and efficient,so all things considered I may be back,as long as you are not expecting nouvelle cuisine or a 5 star Michelin dining experience,give it a try,there are a lot of places in Windermere that are determined to rip you off serving up high priced rubbish,but this place is ok,they do the best with what they have,give it a go.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Great roast beef, all well cooked. Homemade yorkshire pudding and desserts were good too. Will be back!

Don’t listen to 2key. Pie was delicious. As a man who knows who mash not a granule of smash in site. Tasty garlic bread too!

Great casual dining place, hearty cooked proper food. We had the chicken curry and the scampi both were superb. Good little find away from the bust town centre. Even managed to get some sunshine on the decking. Recommend.

Firstly, I don't give negative reviews ( you are welcome to check), I just put it down to wrong choice or experience. However, this was so bad I feel I need to give my opinion. The pub itself is fine, comfortable and reasonably welcoming. The food is inexpensive compared to others in the area but that might be where the problem is. I had a steak pie which was obviously bought in and was average but served with what seemed to be powdered mash and gravy made from granules, not great but ... However my wife's "Thai sticky beef salad" was completely inedible, the beef was so tough she had to spit out the first couple of attempts and when I tried a piece thinking it couldn't be that bad, it took two mouthfuls of beer to swallow it. The response of the staff both at the table and when paying the bill was "I'll let the chef know" no deduction, no offer of a free drink or desert, basically no interest whatsoever. I always say, speak as you find and in all honesty we found this terrible. Feel free to try and I hope your experience is better than ours.

Chose to eat here based on previous reviews. Not what we were expecting, the place is quite run down and our seats were very tatty with holes in the foam. We asked if the pizzas were homemade and told yes including dough, not wanting to judge the book by the cover we decided to go for it. What came out was OK but didn’t look or taste like a fresh homemade pizza dough. Trying to be positive, pizza topping was ok and the glass of Merlot was nice.

We called in as staying in hotel opposite, there’s a bar area & restaurant side which is where we sat, after a drink we decided to eat we enjoyed the food very much & good price. My husband enjoyed it as they sold real ale 👍🏼 would definitely recommend the brook side inn 8/10 staff nice also

Wow I'm in shock!!!! Armed forces surrounding the pub and taken a guy away in handcuffs. He had knives apparently but said they were for his job.

Good value good pub grub. Very family friendly and dog friendly. The waitress kindly offered to bring our dog water to the table together with our drinks. Warm cozy old school pub atmosphere. Enjoyed the pub games while we were waiting.

We had four adults an four little dogs, we sat down to eat a meal , what can only be described as Gorgous, Steak Pie and Chips with peas an gravey to die for, we liked it so much we went back three times, and would have gone again if we stayed longer,

Fairly traditional pub, so decor was expected but the food was better than expected! Kids fish and chips was big, so plenty for the younger ones. Enjoyed the food and staff are always pleasant, same as when we watched some evening sport there.

Pub menu more varied than many, decent range of beer. Quiz night and live music during the week. Plenty of room, slightly off main drag but worth seeking out.

We booked here for a family meal in Cumbria. It has a very old and traditional feel to it which was great, location was in Windermere which was lovely and the staff were very nice and helpful. I had a beef topside roast which was ok but if I’m honest a bit on the steep side at (£15.95) I got two thin slices of beef, three potatoes, half a carrot, one parsnip, two cauliflower n cheese and one large Yorkshire. My partner had the Mac n cheese which was a massive portion and lovely, and our son got the kids fish and chips which was also a big portion and he seemed to enjoy. We both got the cookie dough brownie with ice cream and if I’m being completely honest it seemed like one of the microwave puddings you could buy from shops but still tasted great I guess you expect more for paying a higher price.

Was recommended to go to his little gem of a place. They were able to fit us in on Friday night when we arrived at the Lakes. Service and food is really good value so much so we went back the following night! If staying past the main town centre this was only 4 minutes walk from the Guest house we stayed in. Planning to return for another visit and will definitely go back!

Stayed next to the pub for a week. Went in couple of times for a beer then decided have the 2 for £20 meals on Thursday. What a great deal. Food was outstanding. Only wish we’d had the food the rest of the week.

Called in on a saturday night as it was live music night featuring Dolly and the gambler act.The pub was buzzing and drinks very reasonable compared to the prices the bars charge in Bowness.Hope to call again when we stay at Windermere.

We stayed in Windermere and wanted a good friendly pub and we found this gem. We didn’t eat but the food looked like fabulous pub fayre. The fish and chips looked especially good. The atmosphere was friendly and the locals also made us feel welcome.

Called in for one recently as often do when in Windermere - rugby was on so left a few pints later - great atmosphere, friendly annd has good covered outside area if want to avoid being inside, recently refurbished

We were back in Windermere during storm eugiene on a table of four the pizzas were real quality huge and inexpensive however the fish and chips were prob the best my wife and her friend had ever had!! Be back on our next visit price...

Visitamos los lagos todos los años y descubrimos este pub hace unos años. Realmente hizo una gran comida que tenía una buena relación calidad-precio. Las pizzas eran increíbles.Este año llamamos y reservamos con anticipación debido a Covid, solo para llegar allí y no tenían nuestra reserva. Por suerte había mesas libres. Nos sentamos y luego esperamos una eternidad para conseguir bebidas. Pedimos las pizzas y cuando las conseguimos nos decepcionó mucho. Eran realmente básicos comprados en el supermercado.Luego, cuando fuimos a pagar, nos dijeron que no podían aceptar tarjetas en el momento en que el WiFi no funcionaba. Así que tuvimos que arrastrarnos hasta un cajero automático en la calle principal y regresar. No es lo que quieres después de un día caminando por las montañas.Fue una lástima porque realmente nos encantó este pub.

Visitamos Brookside para comer y beber ya que nos estábamos quedando en un be & be local. La comida tenía una buena relación calidad-precio y era una maravilla! Teníamos pasta y una hamburguesa y ambos estaban deliciosos. Tienen una buena selección de bebidas y eran muy seguros para Covid. El gerente Tom no podría ser más útil. Definitivamente lo recomendaré.

Leímos las críticas en Trip Advisor y pensamos que este pub se veía bien, estaba a una corta distancia a pie de nuestra cabaña, así que decidimos probarlo. Bueno, cuando te reciben con menús con la mitad de los platos principales tachados, ¡no es un buen comienzo! Dos de nuestro grupo de cuatro pidieron el bistec, que era uno de los elementos NO tachados solo para que les dijeran que tampoco había bistec. Me temo que no creo que este sea un buen servicio. La comida que nos sirvieron fue en el mejor de los casos promedio, los mariscos en una canasta en realidad se sirven en una pequeña canasta de plástico roja que se parece a algo de los años setenta cuando el pollo y las papas fritas en una canasta estaban de moda. Realmente no recomiendo este pub. Creo que es solo un pub local que se esfuerza como restaurante pero, lamentablemente, fracasa estrepitosamente.

El distanciamiento social es muy pobre. Inscripciones en todas partes, pero completamente ignoradas por lo que parecían ser comerciantes locales muy borrachos en un final temprano del trabajo. The promise offered on the website bore no resemblance to reality. We visited mid week in early December. When we walked in the locals all stopped talking and then stared at us. I just wanted to leave then as the atmosphere did not feel conducive to an enjoyable evening meal. The menus were on the tables and we made our selection. We were then informed that we had chosen from the wrong menus!!! They were on the tables for goodness sake. Food nothing special.We then felt uncomfortable for the rest of the meal.Very disappointing experience.

Good 🍺and food! Will definitely be back. Staff were really friendly. Got a range of cask ales and the steak I had was excellent.

Habíamos viajado y buscado un buen bocado para comer, este lugar era lo más cercano a desear que no nos hubiéramos molestado, era de menta, todas las sillas parecían estar en una venta de botas de coche, la chica que tomó nuestro pedido parecía que había estado persiguiendo un Jack Russel a través de un seto de la alheña (cubierto de rasguños) más hasta el punto en que salió la comida. el vinagre de sarsons, el bollo de hamburguesa de pollo de la esposa, debe haber sido usado para limpiar la encimera de la cocina antes de ser acompañado por un capitán, un filete de pollo a la vista, unos pocos pepinillos, nada más y papas crudas. Prefiero comer una estera de cerveza que tenga más sabor que el chef en este lugar.

Entró ya que estaba lejos del centro de la ciudad y proporcionaba una mejor relación calidad-precio. Buen menú de comida, con la bonificación de 2 - 4 - 1 en comidas seleccionadas en enero. Teníamos el Gammon y Scampi. Buena selección de cervezas, incluida la barrica. Nos alojamos por la noche de concurso que fue muy divertido.

Trailer Windemere to find a Sunday pub. Three were booked up (though didn't look busy!!) and one "wasn't serving food) so we stumbled upon this gem on the outskirts of the town. Huge portions of tasty food. Even made scampi specially for my daughter-in-law. Good luck to the new management, you deserve to do well

I had the lamb shank with parsley mash potato and veg very nice, tasty lamb just fell of the bone. Very nice worth the price of £10.95

We came to windemere in May and enjoyed two evenings here eating and drinking. However this week's visits were disappointing. Dropped in on Sunday evening and was told that they had run out of vegetables at 7pm, and they had closed the kitchen. Nevermind we thought and decided to return a couple of nights later, we were told upon attempting to order our meals that several meals were unavailable due to them running out of food. We accepted Sunday night but not a second night. Its clear whoever is in charge of ordering the food, is it the chef? or management? isn't doing a good enough job. The meals we did receive were out of proportion, lamb shank was a small portion, steak meal fatty and incorrectly cooked (asked for medium and found it burnt underneath). Lemon sponge pudding was a smaller portion compared to the sticky toffee pudding. I even found a sharp piece of plastic in the lemon sponge pudding, for which I never recieved a apology. The Brookside Inn was great back in May but has slipped since then.

Nice pub with good food and nice outdoor area friendly setting off the tourist track . Will visit more often

We live local to the pub. I have always enjoyed the food here and the service is excellent. The food is traditional pub grub and is very good value for money. The house red Tempranillo is good value at £13.95 a bottle. Recommended if you are visiting Windermere.

Only visited as we were staying nearby and wanted a snack... food was nothing like described on the menu and the drink we wanted they ‘didn’t have’ Sweaty cheese and staff just gossiping. Thumbs down

Starters were beautiful- but so disappointed with Sunday lunch

My husband and I went to this pub as it was very local to where we were staying. We took our seats to order food although the table had not been cleared. After waiting a while for our food one of the staff had informed us that our ticket got lost so they had to ask us what we ordered again. As it was getting late we were not keen on waiting much longer and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes as ours would be cooked next. 20 minutes later after other diners got there food we eventually got our food. As lovely as it was it was ruined by the long delay.

Whilst staying in Windermere earlier this week we had a meal at the Brookside inn. We weren’t expecting a roaring atmosphere for a Monday evening but it was awful.

Went for an early dinner (stop serving food at 7.00). Usual pub grub, nice staff. Specials promised but board blank. Looked like a nice pub but spoilt by having golf on in bar and lots of very shouty men yelling inside front door, a little off putting.

We called in this "Hidden Gem" of a real ale traditional pub. Great selection of beer, gins etc and food. Worth looking out if you are in the area but take a note of the opening times before searching out. Very polite and friendly bar staff as well.

This pub happened to be across the road from our guesthouse. After a days walking it was great to just walk across the road and have a tasty homemade meal cooked with locally sourced products. The fish was as fresh as any I have had previously. There are themed nights including two meals for £15 (amazing value), pizza night and curry night (other food available on night as well).

We visited Windermere and stayed nearby this pub. We watched women's World Cup games here featuring the US team and the England team. Wine and beer were both pub great and the food was not anything special. Folks working here were polite ,friendly, efficient and very professional. Our hosts at a nearby B & B recommended this pub and we did enjoy our time spent there.

We were here two weeks ago with my wife and we were on Saturday yesterday. A bit strange but yesterday I ordered the same thing two weeks ago. The food tasted different was really delicious and the rosemary added to the steak underscored its taste. Delicious!

Great little locals pub off the beaten path. Only complaint is their actual menu does not come close to matching their online menu.

Durante nuestra estancia de dos noches en Windermere, cenamos aquí cada noche y disfrutamos de los especiales del día y el ambiente cálido y local. No es lujoso, pero es amigable y relajado, con sabrosa comida a buen precio.

Visitamos Brookside y pedimos una fuente para compartir. Llegó y nos quedamos algo decepcionados. Costó 14. 95 y no valía la pena básicamente. Tal vez 10 máximo si viene como se describe. Pero no, llegó y faltaban las setas al ajillo. Fui al bar a preguntar sobre eso y me dijeron que de hecho debería haber venido con champiñones al ajillo. Nos dijeron que nos seguirían en breve. No se hizo ninguna disculpa. Varios minutos después apareció una camarera con lo que parecían dos hongos planos que debían servirse con bistec. Pero no hay sabor a ajo. Basta con decir que quedamos muy impresionados con la fuente y aún menos impresionados con su intento fallido de encubrir una omisión. Señaló al barman que servía la comida y él respondió: "lo siento, no soy el chef, solo soy el portador de las malas noticias".

Used this pub on four nights and had four different meals three where very good one was average but all good value.Service was good and staff friendly and the beer was good

Staying at the Brookhouse B&B; up the road we decided to try the Brookside on recommendation. It was fish Friday so we both had that. Excellent value for money and good portion sizes. Pub very popular with locals and has a nice friendly feel to it. Ate there again on the Sunday night and again very impressed with the food. Has a nice seating area outside also. Highly recommend for great pub food.

My wife and I went here during a short break to a guest house in Windermere. It was great to find a quiz night on when we went, so we enrolled and joined in. I ordered a curry and my wife had scampi, both of which were average.

Visited this pub a number of times whilst on holiday in the lakes ,ideally located across the road from where we were staying .The food on all three occasions we visited could not be faulted ,the first visit was on a Friday the day we arrived ,the pub did fish on Friday so we treated ourselves to a portion of fish and chips absolutely delicious, portion size was excellent and the fish was absolutely delicious. We also found that it was good value for money .On the other two occasions we visited we had the Sunday lunch which was pork again portion size just right and absolutely beautiful .On the final visit we had the pizza and also the desert of apple pie and ice cream could not be faulted .The staff are lovely ,great vibe and atmosphere in the pub would highly recommend

Just spent family week in Windermere, ate at the Brookside pub 4 times, great atmosphere, great food and great prices.

Out of the way pub, but apparently popular with locals. The food is basic Pub grub, but there is plenty of it and well cooked. Not expensive compared with other place. Have been there several times and will return again.

Owner of guesthouse we stayed in recommended this place to us we visited on our first evening on 15.4 the menu is 2 meals for £15 on Mondays had fish and chips and my husband had a burger food was delicious and portion size was great.

Not impressed with this place at all. Visited recently with husband and grandson. Chose this pub because reviews were good and because of their menu on website. Tried to order sunday lunch but we were told no beef only pork. It then emerged when we asked that they had lamb also but the waitress 'had forgot' about this. Ordered chicken goujons, chips and beans for grandson as the menu claimed they were hand battered, however when they came it was obvious they were frozen ones and the beans were missing and salad instead which wasn't appealing for a 9 yr old. The waitress claimed the childrens goujons are frozen ones but that is not what the childrens menu section on the website states. I ordered vegetable soup, which when it came it both looked and tasted like tomato. I also tried to order a apple pie dessert but told they don't have custard. Again that is not what their website states. My husband ordered the Lamb sunday lunch, however not very good as the roast potatoes were hard in the middle and the whole lunch was not very hot at all. All in all, very disappointed with this meal, so will not be visiting again or recommending this establishment

We have been here a few times and decided to come here again. They have different deals on and we had the burger and a pint for 12 pound deal. The two waitresses were lovely and very helpful. When the food came we nearly passed out it was that big! It was lovely though and both my husband and I struggled to eat it. We had no problem getting a seat. Close to walk back to the property we stayed at. We will be back!! All the tables have numbers and mountain names on them which is a nice touch.

Well, had a few days in the Lakes again and returned to the Brookside Pub for a meal.

A typical locals pub in Windermere. Boasts good food, fine beers, and friendly staff.Would definitly recommend this pub to anyone visiting Windermere, as the main high street bars are expensive and lack the atmosphere of a good old fashion pub.Would definitly visit again.

Monday is 2 meals for £15, portions were huge and the food lovely. Staff and locals friendly, we will definitely be back-probably tomorrow!!

Have visited this pub twice now, and on both occasions have been impressed with the tasty beer and food, in a warm and welcoming venue which seems more of a locals pub than the average in Windermere. The Brookside ale which is specially brewed for this pub was lovely.

I ate here twice while staying in a nearby guesthouse. I'd seen from tripadvisor that it was close by. The pub website says they're open 12 to 12 but when I first went there about 2pm to have lunch it was closed and I couldn't see any opening hours posted. I returned in the evening. For me as a solo female traveller it was a bit disconcerting to enter the pub area because the bar was surrounded by people sitting at it and it felt a bit offputting. This isn't meant as a criticism, just a description of how I felt entering on my own. Fortunately I realised there was a separate room to eat in with its own bar and I felt totally comfortable sitting there having a meal and a drink. I just had soup each evening, which was homemade and tasty. It was a bit disappointing that on both evenings they didn't have some of the desserts listed on the menu. The service was very friendly and I probably would return to eat here, but not to drink in the pub area.

We were advised by our B&B; to vist the Brookside as it was less than a 500 yard walk away. The Brookside from the outside looks welcoming from the inside its a 1960 Pub which we found great; lots of locals enjoying a pint or two. We went into a dinning area for a meal. The dinning area is not fine dinning by any means but it is seperate from the main bar and good enough. Monday night is two mains for £15 (January 19) So we ordered Fish and Chips & Scampi. It is fair to say that the portion size was enough for 4 people. You will not leave this pub hungry. Quality was good, service was good, staff very friendly. What more could you want.

We had a short stay at the coppice and was recommended to try here for good quality pub grub and prices we could afford a good range of bears, most nights had different offers for food all week.would go here again

As a family we have visited on a Thursday evening for the mlast few years to join in with the Quiz Night tonight however (3rd January) it clashed with Manchester City v Liverpool a popular Premier League game therefore it was particularly busy whilst the food was good for the seven of us and the staff were friendly the locals were downright rude and unfriendly. A member of our party smiled at an older gentleman who asked her what she was laughing it, we were all then almost bullied out of our seats twice. Even one of the bar staff felt the need to apologise for them !! We spent £158 in that pub but would recommend that you think seriously about visiting tourists are obviously in the way but what would Windermere be like without us I am sure our money would be missed.

Booked a large table with family for New Year's Eve. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. This is a pub that serves traditional food, I had chilli con carne and it was delicious. My daughter had halloumi fries and they were yummy! It's not far from Windermere , we all walked, but feels nicely tucked away from the more touristy parts. Highly recommended for families.

We just came back from this place, first time when we go for a meal to Brookside but definetly not the last. THE atmosphere, service are brilliant, the food it's absolutely divine, well done chef Mario, my son he has a big appetite but he couldn't finish your burger:))

The pub was recommended by the B&B; we were staying in. What a super friendly pub. We were made welcome from the minute we stepped in. The manager and his team were all very friendly and had a smile for everyone. We visited for a drink in the afternoon and then went back for a meal in the evening. The meal was so tasty and excellent size portions. I had the Sunday lunch and my husband ordered a pizza. It was big and so tasty. My husband was unable to finish it so we had it placed in a pizza box and took it away with us. Mario the chef is amazing and so talented. I would highly recommend to anyone to visit this lovely cosy pub. I wish the manager and his team all the very best for the future.

Wonderful atmosphere friendly staff and the food is delicious. Definitely will be visiting again and again
