Brockwell Fish And Chips in Northumberland

I’m at a loss to comment upon the rudeness complaint below. I’ve used this shop hundreds of times and never had that experience; quite to the contrary actually. If I had to make a negative comments they would be: there should be separate staff for single customers when very multiple orders are being attended to as the waits can be excruciatingly long; occasionally the chips can be cold but that’s easily rectified.

Best chippy in Cramlington. Fish and chips Friday tea. Great fish and perfect portion size. Had to go to High Pit whilst Brockwell was closed, now that was awful. All the fish were an identical triangular shape, the batter was dark and greasy and everything looked and tasted as if cooked in very old oil.

Definitely gone down hill. £10.50 for mediocre fish and chips, the fish was poor too many chips smaller cheaper portions would be best all in all far too expensive won't be coming again.

Live local to the chip shop and every time I have ever been staff at the counter have been at most shocking and left me in disbelief in how rude they are

Top takeaway. Good prices, great service and fabulous food. Portion sizes are great and the cod is to die for. Wouldn’t eat fish and chips elsewhere locally!

Called in for lunch had a portion of chips and was charged £2.50 Food was nice and fresh and plenty of salt and vinegar but over priced at £2.50

This used to be our favourite fish and chip shop in Cramlington, the food was lovely. However over the last few years it has started to go downhill, the food that we have had has not been nice at all and on a few occasions when we have got home the order has been mixed up / items missing - like chips in a kebab wrap when we asked for salad or chilli sauce when we asked for garlic. My family say that the fish doesn't taste as nice and the kebabs have also gone downhill. The chips are average, nothing special. I am a vegetarian and used to opt for the cheese savoury, I am not even sure if there is any cheese in this any more and the last few times I have had one, it looked very grey inside, it was inedible and went into the bin. I was told on one occasion that the curry sauce was vegetarian and then on the next visit I was told that it wasn't. I once tried the battered vegetarian chop suey roll but it was very hard to cut, I had to use a steak knife to get through it. We now go to Blyth / Seaton Sluice for our takeaways.

Similar experience to Stephen D. I was shocked and disappointed to open my chips when I got home to find a measly portion. It’s not the first time. I thought it was a one off but it’s now the second time. £2.50 for what was a handful of chips is not what your customers expect for that price. The cod portions are also smaller. They used to struggle to fit them in the box but not anymore. It’s not the only chip shop in the area so I’ll be taking my business elsewhere now.

I know prices are raising but ordered a "large" portion of chips, what i got was less than a small portion, clearly reducing portion sizes whilst still pricing high, £2.50 for a portion of chips is quite expensive, id at least expext a decent portion for that!

Cracking fish and chips, huge portions just love them, the fish is always lovely and fresh and the batter crisp and light

Called in an lunchtime for a special - this time a cheese pattie, chips, curry sauce and a barmcake - the food was lovely and hot and the curry sauce was especially good on this occasion. We will be back - just wish we lived closer so we could visit more often.

I have had fish & chips at different places through the years, Blyth, Seahouses, Amble, Scarborough, Acomb, and there is no place better than Brockwell. They are friendly, service is good, and prices aren't too bad. I just love the food here more than any other fish & chip shop around.

This is an excellent chippy - the best in my area. I travel to this one despite living next to a different chip shop as the food is great. Everything tastes freshly cooked, the chips are lovely as are the burgers etc. This is why I’m finding it such a struggle to give a rating. If it’s food then it’s 5/5 if it includes the ordering experience then it drops so have left it at 4 stars. Went in after work to order and the shop was empty except for one customer waiting for their order. A girl behind the counter was stood with her back to us, waiting for something being put out. We wanted to order something that takes a few minutes so decided to give them the heads up and my husband said very politely ‘excuse me’ Nothing. She’d heard but chose not to acknowledge his presence. So he said again but louder and still polite ‘excuse me’. She didn’t say anything, still ignoring him and she was stood right in front of us, then asked someone on the other side of the hot counter to get a colleague to come through. All she had to say was ‘hang on’ or ‘I’m busy’ or even ‘2 secs’ but no, she went down the ‘I’m going to ignore you because I’m rude’ route. Appalling customer service. The lad came round (and he was lovely) and took the order for my husband. when everything was ready I said to the lad that ‘Ms Orange Hair’ was a very rude lady and he apologised but I told him no need to as it wasn’t his fault. We left and got into the car but could see into the shop and the lad obviously said something to ‘Ms Orange Hair’ as we could see her mouth going mental with her face screwed up. She was not a happy bunny. Good, then she knows how we felt. We love this chippy, as I say the food is tremendous and we will be back and the gentleman who served us was lovely but Ms Orange Hair is a huge let down for this business with her lack of customer service skills.

Called for lunch as we were nearby,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it was great. Chips were excellent and the sausage and curry sauce very tasty indeed.

Brockwell fish and chips will always be the best chippy in cramlington, it is our regular and we have never had a bad meal. The staff are friendly and professional and the food always fresh.

Todays lunch was very greasy indeed which it is not normally so not sure whether they need an oil change or maybe a different fryer was on. Also probably due to the hot weather the barmcake that came with lunch had a bit of mould on which put me off somewhat.

I love that they serve cod bites here as I find they are better value than fish and chips. The bites are of a good size and we usually get six cod bites chips and mushy peas and they are enough for three of us.

This chippy is the worst in the area, the jumbo sausages are disgusting!! They dont even coat your food in batter, there is very minimal amounts of batter on your fish/sausages etc. The chips are undercooked and raw. STAY AWAY. Much nicer chip shops around....

This is a lovely local traditional fish and chip shop that also does a range of other expected items and at lunch times does a good range of lunch time specials and if what you want is not read the pleasant staff will get it cooked to order for you, the fish is always scrumy. This is a takeaway

Use this chippy regularly. Quality is very good. The only thing I thought poor were the pies which when I last had one didn't have much filling. I haven't tried the pies for a while so I don't know if they have improved. The fish and chips are excellent

^^TW comment is a load of s**t how can u say not like it used to b.... Then in the next breath say it's just a chippy.TW if it wasn't the clean I don't think they would b getting a 5* rating. Have u ever thought u night of gone in the shop peak time n course it's not going to b gleaming when the staff is ran off their feet ques to the back of the door. And for staff keep asking for the order I'm sure I would if they r busy n serving a couple of people at a time I would ask to make sure the customer got the correct order. N it's not cheap it's on par with the rest of the chippys in the areas. U haven't actually stated what ur bad experience was.. I've been a regular customer for the last 10 years. U commented on a few things that day with bad reviews busy body.

It's a fish and chip shop. There isn't anything special about it, there never has been. The staff don't listen to your orders properly, and the hygiene isn't what it should be. Cheaply priced - but it is just a fish and chip shop.

Really good choice of menu items. Food cooked to a high standard. Only downside are the queues at peak times but that in itself is an indication of how good this place is.

Thought we would give them a try after passing my times when there was always a queue, well worth it best around by far in Cramlington

This place does all sorts of great grub. Things like Haddock and Haggis are usually cooked to order, and are worth waiting for. Friendly staff who work very hard to serve everyone quickly. Never had a bad meal from here.
