Britz Fish & Chips in Swindon

Food was average. But my biggest complaint about this place is the potion sizes aren't what the seem. We ordered a "large chip's" and it was more like a small size of chips, definitely Isn't worth the price.

I found the quality was poor for the fish and chips. Fish was OK batter to thin and the chips with lots of little scraps in with them. The cost is also the most expensive we have paid for fish and chips in Swindon . Staff are nice though and polight. We will not be going there again I'm afraid .

The worst fish and chips I've ever had. Fish the size of a whitebait and overcooked and chips greasy and undercooked. Strange prices £6 and 8p for fish .. will not return

Very rude supervisor when we went to collect a pre order. Just ignored us and then said in grumpy tone that it was not his starting time

Went to this Chippy as our two local ones were closed and it is now our new go to even though its not local. My partner has said the cod is really good and tasty. Anything battered the batter has not been greasy at all and all really yummy.

Disgustingly slow service, cold, greasy food. Doesn't have access to enough drivers to fulfil its orders in a reasonable time frame.

The worst fish and chip takeaway I have ever had. The chips were raw,grey and stone cold. The fish soggy and wrapped so badly that when I opened it all the soggy greasy batter stuck to the paper. A starving, homeless dog would have turned its nose up. Absolutely disgusting.

Called in tonight to try again ,ordered a large cod and chips .The chips were not CHIPS they were scrumps all small bits of potato .The fish was ok but was not moist it had been cooked earlier and dried out . A pity as the place could be better .I think thing to do is go for something they have to cook fresh ,then it would be better as the food is ok if fresh .

Lady taking order did not understand English and it appears on getting meal home that the lady doing the cooking didn’t either as asked repeatedly for plaice with skin on and got skinless. Also there was a pocket of salt on the chips.

I popped in here at 6ish this evening and ordered a mince beef and onion pie and chips. The chips were rock hard and the pie ……well it was clearly a reheated pie from god knows when. It was dry and there was no liquid inside, hardly any mince. Revolting. This used to be ok but it’s now clearly another kebab place. Avoid

I was in your shop 30th March. You were very busy. But unfortunately I was not impressed with the young girl touching her hair then serving customers. She was being very rude about other customers, and after a phone call she got more vocal about. The older lady was was very pleasant and dealt with customer complaints very professionally.

This place seems to be getting worse. Asked for two pieces of fish to be cooked freshly was told all fish was freshly cooked 5 mins ago by counter assistant. When l got home it was dried out, hard, batter disgusting, will not be going back again bring back the old manager it's seems to have gone downhill for a while which is a shame for our local fish and chip shop!

Just lost a regular customer. Food and service have gradually got worse. What is the point on offering phone orders if you have to queue and wait to pay and collect. Told it would be ready in 10/15mins and I then had to wait longer for my food than several walk in customers - despite telling a member of staff I was there.

I ordered cod and chip takeaway and was given my purchase wrapped in paper . When I got home and opened it , I could not believe the aweful quality of the fish I had been sold . I telephoned but was palms off with an offer of vouchers for the next time I visited . As if I would go there again ! This firm offers a home delivery but could not be bothered to bring a replacement meal to an 86 year old man .

I don't know why I do this to myself its quicker to grow my own and cook them under candle light service is dreadful

Ordered a takeaway Saturday night got home large cod missing from order telephoned chippy to advise but was told couldn't do anything as now closed was questioned more than once about missing cod said i would go there and show them but was told nothing could be done as closed so i took photos. Went to chippy Wednesday night and ordered missing cod and chips was told woukd have to pay for chips which is disgusting as this was not my fault i was then accused of lying by the manager in front of a shop full of customers disgusting customer service as we have been regular customers over many years i suggest the manager needs to be taught customer service skills as he has none will not be going back there again the lady on the counter was lovely i will be writing to head office

Called in for lunch. Jumbo sausage chips and bread roll. Food hot and fresh great. Well done love the sausage's

Ordered fish and chips twice asked the lady to be cooked fresh having notice a curled up piece in the hot counter. What did l get one freshly cooked and the dried out curled up peice absolutely disgusting. On the board it say " ask if you want your food cooked fresh" chips as in previous review getting smaller and smaller but the prices gone up. Shame this use to be the best but gone down hill rapidly. Also asked to wait outside while staff inside not wearing mask, door shut no ventilation and we can't see our food being cooked fresh.

We have been getting kids nuggets and chips meal once a week for last few months. Tonight me and my daughter were amazed and yes while standard 4 nuggets we counted them and had 12 chips wtaf….I can normally pinch half. Appalling won’t be coming back

This shop has gone downhill in the last couple of years since the general manager retired, some of the staff need to be retrained in customer care I was visiting Swindon last year and thought I would try this place. As I am very familiar with their restaurant the Trawlerman in Basingstoke since that has now collapsed this is the one remaining shop left. Visited it with some family members but due to the social distancing we were not aloud to go in together so I ended up getting our orders myself one of the young waitresses was polite and told me to stay apart wasn’t too busy anyway only had to wait a few minutes for my order quick and efficient but could be better.

Whoever the tall man working on the evening of the 7 May, i think may have been the manager, was incredibly unproffesional. From a customer point of view it was dissapointing to hear what he was saying and he seemed quite stressed. It was a shame because i like this chip shop and will always come back, the ladies working were very nice and friendly aswell. Just a shame about that part

what a bloody cheek charging for salt and vinegar,£1 then it was only on the top few chips, fish cake looked like somebody had sat on it, chips were all wrinkly like reheated, so thats what you get for £4-0 absolute robbery. never again.

Very expensive for not a lot of food. Tiny portions. Family fancied chippy tea, we ordered 2 large and 1 small chips - no difference in sizes of the portions. 2 large cod, so much batter, hardly any fish..... skin left on the fish so the kids were put off. 2 sausages, cold and hard.

Just had fish and chips from here and the fish was so over cooked I couldn't even break into the batter. The fish inside was so yellow and dried out. Major disappointment and totally in edible. Total waste of money. Will never use this chip shop again.

I ordered standard fish and chips but my order was under £10 so I ordered onion rings as well, was I glad I did because they were the best thing. The chips were just OK nothing to say but the piece of fish I got was 4 inches by 1 inch. The barrier was as hard as a rock and could not bite it .The smallest piece of fish I have ever had from any fish & chip shop in my life. My granddaughter of 3 years would want more than that. No salt or vinegar on either fish or chips. I will definitely NOT be going there again. I used to like the service and the quality I got there and would although there is a shop just across the road from me.

Easily the best chippy in Swindon. Insont go anywhere else, the team are friendly and the food food is good quality. My only gripe is that they don't have onion vinegar, but I think thats more of London thing

Ordered online although not stated it was a meal sausages were mixed in with chips I am a vegetarian and therefore was not able to eat my meal. when contacting the restaurant they told me that it wasn’t obvious that it was meant to be in the same box and basically insinuated it was my fault for not stating that two separate items should not be mixed together in the same box even though there was no warnings to suggest this would be the case. Staff did not care less on telephone

OMG Not only have the prices increased,(dearest fish and chip shop in Swindon) they now charge £1 for salt and vinegar

As we were walking passed decided to give it another go - wish we hadn't bothered. The man serving was so rude! "stand in the corner..." no please. Then was rude to an older gent who had no idea where he was supposed to be standing. Needs to learn some customer skills or perhaps ask his Mum to teach him general manners. I know we all have bad days, but this was really bad. Got served after 2 people who had come in after us (no they hadn't preordered). Have to say the chips were OK, but fish was yuk with greasy skin still left on. Will not be going there again. Don't waste your time or money as you'll be disappointed.

Nice chips, terrible fish, tiny sausage, high price. Will go a bit further to get better quality. Shame most of the reviews are of pubs.

This chip shop has some of the most banging fish and chips,you won’t regret it if u decide to go💯💯! Excellent energy from the workers and they’re very friendly and welcoming!

Poor quality potatoes resulting in crap chips. Haddock over greasy and not scaled. Scampi under cooked. Out of the bag frozen onion rings. Considering how much more expensive I expected a higher quality. Overpriced Rubbish That Very Quickly Ended Up In The Bin.

Visited the West Swindon Britz chip shop, ordered regular cod and chips, could not get over the size of the Cod, genuinely thought it was a Cod bite, the smallest portion I have ever been served in a fish and chip shop, the quality was ok, not as bad as some of the other shops in Swindon, and the chips also we're of average quality, the staff are very plesant, and shop very clean, it's the portion size that is the problem.

Was doing a late food shop and decided not to cook so I’d thought I’d get some chips as I have never been there before and sadly I won’t be going back the chips were under cooked and was full of grease friendly staff but also thought it was over priced as well!

I usually stop off for a quick lunch inbetween jobs. Chips are fabulous and despite consistent price rises of late, still value for money. Decent sized portions, as well.

Today I was made to feel uncomfortable because I simple asked them to carry my order out to me on my mobility scooter, manager (Ryan) said I needed a delivery note for that, young assistant said that would be £20 - I went out to my scooter my order was packed up & held inside till young assistant felt ready to bring it out to me, We use shop weekly if not more, have never been spoken to like this before, other staff are more than help to help.

I pop in about once a fortnight for grub after work. Food is generally good and produced in reasonable time. The staff are very good but one or two of the "in training" ones have been clowns recently. All things considered this a decent local fish & chip shop.

Went here as not been for a while and shall not return for a while again not only did the burger in batter I ordered not taste of anything it was a whopping £2.80 odd almost double what I would expect to pay,did not enjoy the chips either although wife did like hers will got back to to where I know and I enjoy next time not a great takeaway for me

You might think that some simple fish and chips can not be so bad that I need to review it? Well it can. I actually didn’t want to write this, either, because the staff there seemed friendly, but on reflection there is no way anyone could serve this and not see how poor the standard is.

Never fair to judge after one visit,unless an experience was particularly bad-or good! I gave this place a second chance,I wouldn't have written about it if the second chance wasn't so bad.

Firstly they were not prepared for customers, no fish or enough chips for a handful of people waiting for the food to be cooked. The fish has hardly any batter on it, it's been watered down to within an inch of it's Life, instead of being thick and crispy. The fish itself is frozen and tasteless, and should be flakey. The Chip's were ok, but needed perhaps another 2 minutes of cooking time. They use excessive packaging, instead of wrapping the fish and chips together, each part in packaged separately, plus it's then placed into a huge brown bag, why do they need to do this? It's us the customer who pays for this ridiculous over the top wrapping. This company says it's a family run business established since 1958, well they need to retrain in how to A) source better fish B) not use watery batter C) cook better chips and D) rethink their expensive prices.

This chip shop was number one in our local paper best chip shop in Swindon . I am sorry I did not agree with that result with the meal I had tonight , we had a Jumbo Cod £6.55 and a normal chips £2.00 . The chips were only warm ( I had to wait 10 minutes for the fish to be cooked ) I only live a mile from this chip shop , not very many for the price and they were very skinny and under cooked to preference , I like them golden .The fish was not that bad but is was very greasy the wrapping was soaked in grease . After studying the menu whilst waiting for my fish to be cooked I think it is quite dear for everything . I only tried tonight after reading our local paper but in future I shall return to another place in Swindon which I think is far superior .

Always have had great food at Britz, freshly cooked, you can eat in which we do a lot, it is one of, if not the best Fish & Chip Shop's in Swindon.

Just had to wait 20 minutes after ordering for 2 x battered sausages and they just looked at when I complained !! Never again

Cooking is dependant on person cooking.. not as good as in past. Over cooked at times full of fat. Place to avoid if possible

It is a take away but they have a few tables inside to sit and eat. The pensioner meal is good value and very nice. The fish and chips are excellent and the service is very good.It's right next to Asda and a good car wash. A good place to have lunch while your car gets washed.

Well I've never been charged almost £2 for a "standard" portion of chips, only to be served approximately 18 chips in shallow polystyrene tray that is small enough to fit the palm of one hand, I cannot believe the local population put up with this extremely poor value for money/profiteering shop!, been once, will never go again, and I'll also ensure my friends are aware. I really was astonished by how little food is served. LOOK ELSEWHERE if you want a proper amount of food.

Chip portions and food quite expensive. I will avoid Britz fish and chips and get value for money elsewhere for a British dish which shouldn’t cost over £20 for 3 meals!

I used to rate this chip shop as one of the best in Swindon. I have used it for over twenty years , not anymore.

Living in West Swindon I can recommend buying fish & chips here. My husband & I always buy the 'Senior' portions which is more than enough for us & it is always cooked to perfection.

The staff were rude, dumping our expensive order solidly on the counter. 3.90 for 2 small portions of chips is not value. For a place that makes chips as a large part of their revenue, I was shocked at how poor they tasted.

West Swindon oldest fish and chip shop. Had the same manager for years and always good quality fresh food.

This fish and chip cafe serves freshly cooked food and has a varied menu to include breakfasts, jacket potatoes and jumbo hotdogs. Kiddies menu, Seniors menu and variety of sizes of portions to suit everyone. We usually call for lunch and are served by Alan, Ryan, Charli and Becky, who is an apprentice. They are very helpful and friendly. You can eat in or take away!

i can honestly say that the fish and chips here are amazing, the chips are to die for and are never greasy, the fish has a wonderful fresh fish taste... keep up the good work guys

Great, quick service, staff were very welcoming. The food was top notch, my slush puppy went down a treat and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be returning.

I love going to get my fish an chips from britz they are friendly staff the size portion are very good an value for money .. you can either eat in or takeaway always hot and fresh my kids love the slushy machine always have one even if we don't order food as they are value for money and they do some really good items of food for healthy jacket potato to a all day breakfast which is good value for money

Whilst out late evening shopping we decided to give 'Britz' a try as we've been looking for 'good' Fish N Chips and had no luck. However we all really enjoyed Britz 'Fish N Chips', The batter was crispy, the fish was not greasy and had yummy large white fish flakes. Added to this they had good proper chips - not fries or 'skin on fries' but proper chips.. This is the best Fish N Chips we've had in Swindon. To prove it we've already been back since writing this review. Where we had Fish N Chips and my son also enjoyed a burger :)

We called in here at 5pm on a Saturday afternoon and regretted it. We had planned on going elsewhere but as this was closer, we thought we would try it. We ordered a large Cod with large chips, and a fishcake. The large chips were more standard chips and both they and the fish had obviously been cooked for some time. The fish cake was very soggy and had a strong fishy taste which some might like by I didn't. On top of that, I thought it was quite dear for what we had but perhaps costs have gone up. We won't be visiting again.

These were the worst chips I've ever had. Some under cooked, some dried up, lots of bad bits, full of scrappy little ends. Over half were inedible and the fish... Indescribably bad. For what you get the prices are exorbitant. If this is an award winning chippy I'm speechless. Avoid.

Saturday evening special tea. We have been here several times for fish and chips our fish was cooked to order and as on the previous occasions well cooked very tasty and moist the chips were super. Well worth the few minutes wait while the fish was being cooked. A busy business ALWAYS A GOOD SIGN IN A CHIP SHOP!!! Regards Ken

Have used this chippy ever since it first opened many years ago and staff have always been top class. Alan, who has always been there is one of the nicest people you could wish to meet. The food itself has always been exemplary and my personal favourite has to be the jumbo cod and large chips, which is about right for me and my wife to share. The only negative is the portion sizes, compared with others they are a bit on the frugal side. That said it won't stop me returning.

I will not be revisiting unless the prices are sorted out and the portion size improved. A large chips is shown in the picture and costs £2.70 I would advise anyone to spend an extra 5 mins in the car and go to Toothill Chinese Kitchen.

We visit this here frequently and would recommend the large haddock, although you normally have to wait a short while for it to be cooked. It's worth the wait. Friendly staff and clean establishment. There are a couple of tables where you can sit, either to wait for your order or to eat. Would recommend.

Not the largest portion of fish & chips I've ever had but I was very impressed with the quality and taste of the fish. The service was quick and friendly and I will definitely be back.

Love this place, always get friendly, fast service with plenty of smiles, plus the food is great! Definitely recommend if you love the classic taste of fish and chips.

If I'm paying £15.50 for two pieces of cod, one large portion of chips and two mushy peas from a basic chippy, I expect it to be decent and value for money. The food was average and would have been acceptable if it was not for the price. They charge £2.60 for a large portion of chips, but their definition of large seems to conflict with the dictionary definition. There was barely enough chips to go round the two of us, and even though the two portions of fish were quite large, the batter was greasy. Britz is one of those places you go to once and never again! Very poor quality for the price!

Not the best chip shop in town for sure. Pricey small portions and extremely greasy chips. They were that greasy we ended up throwing half of it away. One to avoid.

I've been using this store for many years now, and have always been highly satisfied with the fish and chips. Sometimes there's a bit of a wait, but the quality and portion size is fantastic. Will probably be back soon.

Two huge chicken breasts and a large chips for under a tenner. We have been going to this chippy for 25 years and it is consistently top class. Alan and the rest of the staff are always friendly and efficient

The chips In this place are always poor soggy or under cooked. However the breakfast and other food seem to be good quality but is a bit on the expensive side.

This is our local chippy so have been here quite a few times. Sometimes it's excellent, but others it can be poor. We've had quite a few occasions where the chips haven't been cooked for long enough and are still quite firm in the middle.

Portions are ridiculous and high priced, large looks more like a children's size. Slow service as well. However chips are tasty

I would have thought any Fish & Chip business would rely on repeat business but Britz seems to forget this golden rule, Just too expensive for what you are getting. There are better places to go to in Swindon. I won't be coming back,

This Fish & Chip shop is nice I have found at times the fish is a bit oily the chips are very nice but you get little portions not enough to fill up on always need a desert afterwards.The staff are always friendly and welcoming.i find the pricing is a bit expensive for what you get.

Always a long queue. Freshly cooked, good portions and excellent value. You can sit in or take away. It's very clean & tidy with ample parking at the front

In a rush so thought fish and chips would be a good option, went to blitz and what a real disappointment. My boyfriend was instantly dismayed by the small portions being dished out by the surley manager. Only to be worsened when he tried his chips to find that they were raw in the middle and his battered sausage had gone soggy, not a happy boy and remains hungry. The price for cheesy chips and sausage chips £6 rip off in my eyes. Will not be returning.

Good, well cooked fish. Chips were a little underdone. Very expensive for small portion size in a chippy in a rougher area of town. Probably won't return as better value alternatives just around the corner.

This has got to be the worst Priced chip shop I have ever seen a large portion of chips is the same price but the size as what you would expect when ordering a small from any other shop.All I can say is a real letdown.
