Booked a table for 4 for afternoon tea on a Saturday. Situated in an old medieval building on the corner of Elm Hill. We were sat downstairs and space can be a bit tight. We received fantastic service. Would definitely recommend their afternoon tea for price and quality. Good variety of sandwich fillings, complemented with homemade sausage roll, perfectly baked fruit scone and a selection of delicious cakes. We were all full by the end of it. Will definitely be coming back! Thanks.

In the past I would've rated this place highly, as a charming retreat in a beautiful spot on Elm Hill. It's quaint inside, with a lovely little garden out back to enjoy in the summer (although that's only accessed via steps). Recently we've had poor experiences with grumpy staff, and burnt cake. I hope they can rectify these issues and get back to the excellent level they used to be...

Fantastically quaint little retreat. The atmosphere and staff were great. The coffee and walnut cake was a little dry but the mocha was one of the best. Loved the cast iron pot for the tea. When we're hungry for more, this is certainly one of the places we want to revisit as the food coming out looked great.

Really nice food at a reasonable price, generous portions. Outside beautiful but inside lacked ambience and character. This could be amazing but just needs some music, a little interior design help and some updated furniture. It's pub food in a cafe setting so there's a part of me that's looking for a wood burner etc. It would be helpful to have a printed menu and some fresh/dried rather than plastic flowers. Friendly staff :)

Facilities must be too small or old as my meal had changed when I received it. Fortunately I didn't mind. They were very rushed and slow on the Sunday. Ideal for smaller coffee cake visits. Beautiful tasting cuisine though. Just not what I asked for. The vegan pie was also more bland than described. Toilet v cold! However i did have a beautiful moment when I saw that view over Elm Hill! Summary they are trying very hard and wish them every success.

Loved the vibe of this ancient building and the cosy feel the owners have given it. Food was awesome too. Sadly docked a star for the temperature. Locals had told us to wear thermal layers and we thought they were joking - they weren’t unfortunately. Chilly space, that did warm a little when we got the wall heater turned on, but was just not quite relaxing due to not quite being warm enough.

Lovely building on a nice old cobbled street. The food was not the best, bread felt like it was kept in the fridge, causing it to be soggy and hard. Food was below average especially for the prices. The staff were good and offered a refund for the sandwiches that were poor quality and were very apologetic about the apple crumble which they had not brought out. They have a little book shelf in the corner of the side room where you can purchase second hand books and an outside area too.

Was treated to a Father’s Day lunch had to wait quite some time to be asked what drinks we would like and then had to remind the waitress some time later that we had not received our drinks, eventually after another long wait we received our meals. We then ordered a bottle of wine, the waitress then turned up with the bottle and 4 glasses, she then started to clean the glasses with a absolutely filthy tea cloth dropped the tea cloth on the floor picked it up and continued to clean the glasses. And why I did not complain I honestly don’t know, Will say food was ok. Have been put off 🥴

My RIP (romantically involved person) and I visited here around 6 pm on a sunny Saturday after a couple of hours of mildly energetic rowing on the Wensum. Consequently, we were both thirsty and hungry, but what’s more in a bit of a hurry, as we had tickets to the theatre (Julius Caesar - don’t bother). We were accommodated adroitly; our request for a jug of water and a glass of excellent local wine was fulfilled promptly. The food was also served quickly and it was outstanding; the veg were cooked just right, and my companion’s fish pie was top notch; I had the chicken supreme which was very tasty, and the accompanying sauce was worthy of a eulogy by Mark Anthony. Oh and the salt and pepper pots were “suffused with whimsy”, according to our host, if not salt and pepper, but this was quickly corrected. We left satiated and impressed at the value for money on offer.

What a great place! Fantastic, historical building and we stumbled across a little outside terrace, off the first floor, adjacent to the neighbouring church yard. Lovely spot on a sunny day. Only had cake and coffee which were all fine, the food other people were eating looked lovely. But... One issue, we've walked past it several times before and it always looks closed. From the outside there is no sign of life. Maybe find a way of showing its open?

This was such a cute cafe and based on the reviews I was very excited to dine in. I ordered the vegan pie with potato, beans and a mustard pickle salad. I was disappointed to receive a slice of vegan pie that had raw pastry on the bottom. The potatoes very plainly boiled with no seasoning and the salad was a pile of leaves with a mustard dressing. I was expecting a bit more from this restaurant. Possibly a poor choice on my behalf. Otherwise the venue is very cute in a lovely spot on Elm Hill.

When out in the city, often the Tea served at coffee shops is pretty naff, and being someone who can't drink coffee I'm often left disappointed. However, the Britons served me possibly one of the nicest cups of tea I've had in Norwich, they use Birchley's which is a local loose leaf tea company. I would highly recommend. Perfect place for a delicious evening meal. The menu is varied and creative, the venue snug and full of character and the chef and owner, Richard Ellis, an amazing chap who was happy to chat through his menu and his incredible culinary book collection which added interest to an already wonderful evening. I had the gnocchi as a main course (on the menu as a starter) and the bowl of fantastic flavours and textures filled the spot perfectly. The pears poached in wine and served with an amazing chocolate chilli sauce was a chocolate lover’s dream but my husband’s banana split was equally incredible. Each menu item took many familiar and otherwise ordinary ingredients and mixed them up, adding flavours and twists to create something totally out of the ordinary and utterly delicious. This appears to be one of Norwich’s best kept secrets as an evening dining venue, even though it is very popular as a day time coffee shop. It deserves to be rammed every evening.
