We had a wonderful evening meal, service great, ambience too and the food was outstanding. We were the only people in the restaurant all evening and were made to feel very special. We will definitely be back next time we visit Norwich.

We popped in for coffee, and were so impressed with the lunch menu that we came back again later. We weren't disappointed - the food was innovative, delicious and very good value. The surroundings are beautiful - the window table gave us a great view all the way down Elm Hill. It wasn't warm enough to check out the secret garden, but next time we are in Norwich we'll make a point to do so.

I have been in the BA before and have been satisfied with the quality of food whilst also being very affordable. Today I walked in around 13:40. There were two members of staff (one was the owner). I sat down in the corner next to the till (where I have sat before). Approx. 20 mins later the owner comes to me saying "how can I help?". I said: "Can I have a menu?". Then he asks whether I booked a table upon which I replied "no". He then told me it was booking only. I told him that they should have made that clear when I walked in 20 mins ago, even more so since I had been there three times in the last two months, without a booking. When I suggested to sign post it on the door (e.g. booking only) he became quite shirty. I understand that during busy hours they have to resort to booking only as it's quite cramped in there, but it's just the fact that he did not offer any alternatives, e.g. "can you come back later?", or just serve me as there were two small tables free and I was on my own. Either way - I doubt I will visit this place again, shame really.

What a charming experience. Richard, the chef, waiter and host (one man show) has created a true gem in Norwich. The food was amazing and matched the historical building’s ambiance. We highly recommend. Thanks Richard. Jenny and Scott

We went to Briton Arms for dinner on a Thursday evening while visiting Norwich for a few days. The place was quiet, peaceful and absolutely beautiful. Richard, the host, was very friendly and welcoming. We had delicious chicken and fish dishes for main course. The sticky toffee pudding was the best I have ever tasted. We loved every bit of it and will definitely return.

A fascinating, really historic and very popular cafe with a well-priced light lunch menu. We found a busy ground floor of the cafe on a Friday lunchtime so ventured to the stairs to seek a vacant table above...... disaster .....the handrail of the stairs was covered in wet sticky black gloss paint! Unbelievably they'd allowed the room upstairs to remain open while the paint was still drying!! Two inadequate hand written warning signs were poorly sited several feet up the stairs....well after we had used the rail and gained black hands for our efforts. To compensate after we wiped most of the paint off (luckily our clothing had none) the staff found us a fine table downstairs within a few minutes. They also promptly added a warning at the FOOT of the stairs. The features of this 15th century tall and homely building were most interesting, as was the menu.....I chose a baked been and cheese toastie, only to find it wasn't the baked beans one's used to, but fava beans in melted cheese......very much an acquired taste (which I've yet to acquire). The staff were charming and helpful, but why the proprietor/chef decided to cover some customers' hands with fresh paint remains a mystery. P.s. what food and drink we did like was very nice.

Good for coffee, lunch, tea or dinner. I visited for a quick light lunch. The service was a bit slow but the soup was homemade and delicious. Sitting in a very historic building. Toilets were grim.

Dining out with London ‘foodies’ who also know a good (or bad) glass of wine, is always slightly nerve wracking! But I should have known the Britons Arms wouldn’t let me down, although I’ve only been for daytime treats previously. A Saturday eve at the end of Aug was sure to be busy, but a cheery welcome was an encouraging start. The menu and special board catered for all our different preferences. The tasty snacking menu and drinks filled the wait gap nicely. Our incredible server was full of good humour and must be the fittest man on Elm Hill whizzing around single handedly. Any ingredient queries were checked and resolved speedily. The mains came - completely delicious, quality food, beautifully cooked. In the atmosphere of a historic building it was the perfect evening - and parking nearby. I think I got 5 stars for choosing it!!

We were in Norwich on a rainy Sunday in July and decided it was a good day to try a Sunday roast. We popped in here to see if they had room and they did - although a reservation might be a better idea. We weren’t sure what to expect but the roast was delicious! A huge plate piled with all sorts of vegetables, beef and a huge Yorkshire pudding with red wine gravy. It was a perfect place to try this traditional meal.

Sunday Roast For Two. Book a table for Sunday lunch not knowing what to expect as we've never visited. Amazing the beef was delicious and melted in the mouth. My fiancee had Lamb that was cooked to perfection. Well done most enjoyable. Will visit again

We brought our friend here on a chilly evening in May and quickly settled into the quirky and historic surroundings. We ordered a bottle of red with mains; seared venison for me, while the other two ordered beef cheeks. These arrived promptly and looked great. My plate served with broccoli, radish and berry sauce was a riot of colours as you can see in the photo (taken after I started eating, so I tried to restore its appearance). The vension was soft and moist, cooked to perfection. The other two were well satisfied with their beef. And so we passed a very convivial evening at the Britons Arms. Looking forward to visiting again in summer.

Excellent food and excellent service. The waitress remembered us and our last visit was in January. She remembered my food intolerance. Can’t fault this restaurant

excellent breakfast.. ladies were really busy, but we enjoyed the ambiance whilst waiting. Unlike some very unlikable other customers complaining loudly how they had to wait for breakfast. The place was rammed... the staff doing they best they can, with smiles on their faces. Excellent staff.. Great breakfast. It does get busy but what else are you going to do on a Sunday morning.. meant for lazy breakfasts. ( I also work in catering... sometimes people would be good to exercise patience and give the staff a break)
