My friend and I stayed at this hotel for a week, and it was a frustrating experience from start to finish. We arrived with high expectations, but encountered several issues that left us disappointed and upset. On the first day, we were given a room with a view of a loud generator. We requested a change, but the next room was also poor. After waiting again at reception, we were finally moved to a room with a river view. It was the best option they offered, but still not great. The issues continued throughout our stay. The bedside lamp broke and no one came to fix it. The fire alarm went off more than twice daily, disturbing our sleep. Housekeeping is only provided every four days, and when I asked for clean sheets, I was told to change them myself. A major concern occurred when a maintenance worker ignored the "Do Not Disturb" sign and entered our room without permission while I was in a confidential video call. He turned on all the taps, made noise, and completely disrupted my work. When I complained at reception, they didn’t seem to care or apologize. We were also asked to leave the restaurant for only ordering cake, even though the place was almost empty. The breakfast was poor, with very few options and an early closing time of 9:30 am. The beds were much smaller than advertised — only 75 cm wide — and my friend fell out twice. The staff showed no concern about this. Other problems included very dirty windows, a slow and confusing elevator, unresponsive reception, and extremely weak Wi-Fi. Most of the staff seemed unmotivated and poorly trained. On the positive side, the location is good, near Canary Wharf station. The dinner menu is reasonably priced, and some staff members, especially the cleaners, were friendly. Overall, I had a much better experience here two years ago. It’s clear the hotel has declined, possibly due to a change in management. I would not stay here again and recommend others to consider alternative hotels in London.

Me and my partner stayed here for 4 nights this week as part of a Caledonian package with breakfast and evening meal included. I was a little scared about staying here due to the previous reviews but when we arrived I was pleasantly surprised. Our room was comfortable and very clean. The furniture could do with an update and the hair dryer was a little annoying with having to hold the button in while using it, but apart from these minor things the room was great. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and were prompt in providing us with anything we needed. We didn't eat our evening meal at the hotel during our stay as we wanted to enjoy some food places in London so I can't comment on that, but the breakfast was pretty good. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel for a cheap and convenient stay in London!

The hotel is rated as a four-star property, but the reality does not reflect this classification. Housekeeping service is only provided once every four days, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this category. The furniture is old and worn out, negatively affecting the overall comfort of guests. Prices are high compared to the quality of services offered. The attached photo shows the condition of the upper floors, which suffer from the same issues. In my opinion, the hotel does not deserve more than a two-star rating, and I do not recommend staying there.

I stayed at Britannia International Hotel in London and really enjoyed my experience. I was on the 10th floor and the view from my room was absolutely breathtaking, you could see The Shard and the full London skyline, which made mornings and evenings really special. The location is perfect if you’re exploring Canary Wharf or the city. The hotel is in a busy and central spot with easy access to transport and shops. The room was spacious, clean, and classically decorated with everything I needed, including a working desk and tea/coffee setup. Service was friendly and efficient from check-in to check-out. While the room décor is more traditional than modern, it was tidy and well kept. A great choice for both business and holiday trips. I’ve attached some room and view photos to help other travelers. Definitely worth staying here if you’re looking for a well located hotel with great views in London.

The location was great but the room was too hot, and they need more staff on reception. both times I went up , I had to wait in a queue. They also didn’t let me in to breakfast even though I paid for it, I went to the reception and they sorted it out, but why was the mistake even made? The room decor is ok

We recently stayed at the Britannia International Hotel in Canary Wharf and found the location to be excellent — truly one of its strongest points. With easy access to public transport and the convenience of being in the heart of a bustling business district, it made getting around London a breeze. In terms of value, the price-to-quality ratio was quite fair compared to other hotels in the area. While the property itself is a bit dated, the cost reflects that, and it still delivers a decent stay for what you pay. What really stood out during our visit, however, was the professionalism and warmth of Raluca at the reception. She went out of her way to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Her pleasant demeanor and genuine attentiveness made a significant difference — especially in contrast to some of the other reception staff, who at times seemed like they were enduring a shift in a hard labor camp. Raluca, by comparison, was consistently courteous, helpful, and clearly took pride in her work. Thanks to her, our experience at the Britannia was elevated, and we left with a far better impression than we might have otherwise. Management would do well to recognize her contribution — she truly stands out.

Lovely hotel, great location, stayed 2 nights but just a bit disappointed that the room didn't get cleaned, came back on the second day expecting the bed to be made but no one had been to clean. Also it's annoying that it's cashless, I prefer to spend cash rather than using my card or at least have a choice. Having said that I would stay again. Staff are nice and the food was fine 🙂

For a 4-star hotel, this is what I found: - Reception chronically understaffed and queues are horrendous. So many guests reporting issues so you'll be waiting a while... - Room key never worked - had to go to room via maze of corridors only to find each day that, once again, the key didn't work, trek back to reception, queue for 20 mins to get new key. Every. Single. Time. - Beds are tiny - if you're over 5 foot 7, good luck. - Our room wasn't cleaned the entire stay. Not once. Budget motels are better than this. - Really not sure how this hotel qualifies as 4 stars. Premier inn is 10x better and cheaper.

I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. From the moment I walked into the room, I was hit with a strong, musty odor that never went away, despite opening windows and using air freshener. It was clear that the room hadn’t been properly aired out or cleaned before my arrival. The cleanliness was far below expectations. The carpets were stained, the bathroom had noticeable grime, and there was dust on several surfaces, suggesting the room hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in some time. Even the bedding didn't feel fresh, which made for an uncomfortable night’s sleep. Overall, the condition of the room made it hard to relax or feel comfortable. Cleanliness should be a basic standard for any hotel, and unfortunately, this property failed to meet even that. I would not recommend staying here until serious improvements are made.

I was hesitant to stay at this hotel after reading reviews but people often complain when they are upset so I figured it couldnt be that bad. Plus, the hotel is listed on Amex Travel and Ive never had a bad experience when using Amex Travel. That all changed tonight. The Britannia International Hotel is for lack of better words, old as hell. The rooms are outdated, the bed hard as a rock, and the A/C does not work. In fact the rooms are so warm that each one has a fan for you. I was placed in one standard room and upon walking in was blasted with a heat wave. After asking to have the A/C fixed, I was told it could not be fixed and was upgraded to a King bed room. Surly this would solve the problem and the A/C would be blowing strong. WRONG! When I went down to the desk a third time, I was presented with no viable option and the manager on duty refused to talk to me. Instead, the staff offered to open my window or place me on the first floor with a balcony. I passed on the balcony and returned to my hot box of a room. Please dont stay here. Its not worth it.

Today, April 21, 2025, at about 10:45 PM, we asked for boiling water in the hotel restaurant for our baby’s bottle, as I do not trust the in‑room kettle. The ladies and gentlemen at reception, however, were very friendly.

Worst hotel experience ever You can’t open or close the windows by yourself and you need someone from staff to do that whenever you wanna open or close them because they removed the handle. The hotel smells so bad, it’s very old and not worth the money at all. The beds are very uncomfortable and I can’t really think of anything positive other than the location. I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Britannia International Hotel Canary Wharf in London, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. Actually it was my second time staying there during my holidays in UK. Located in the vibrant Canary Wharf area, the hotel offers the perfect blend of luxury, and comfort. The staff at Britannia International were warm, welcoming, and always eager to help. From check-in to check-out, the service was impeccable, and the team went above and beyond to ensure my stay was nothing short of exceptional. My room was beautifully appointed with elegant furnishings, plush bedding, and stunning views of the city. The attention to detail was impressive, and I appreciated the thoughtful touches throughout the room. The rooms furniture has a unique blend of classic and contemporary design elements. The hotel's amenities were top-notch, including a well-equipped fitness center, a relaxing spa, and a chic bar serving delicious cocktails. The breakfast buffet was also impressive, with a wide selection of tasty dishes to start the day. The hotel's location in Canary Wharf was ideal, with easy access to public transportation, shopping, and dining options. I was able to explore the city with ease, and the hotel's proximity to major attractions was a huge plus. My stay at Britannia International Hotel Canary Wharf was truly unforgettable. The hotel's luxurious atmosphere, exceptional service, and prime location made it the perfect choice for my London getaway. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and stylish stay in the heart of the city. Rating: 4/5 stars

My partner and I were here for one night and stayed here due to being close to the area we were stationed in. I cannot state enough how much of a disappointment this stay was. The actual location is fantastic as are the surroundings, and the entrance area has some fantastic architecture and art. But the room, it is the single worst room I have ever stayed in. We were given a room on the lower ground floor, and after walking through a maze, I opened the door to be met with something akin to a prison cell. I genuinely wondered where the rest of the room was - a windowless soulless cell where the bathroom door couldn’t even open correctly without hitting the bed. T If it wasn’t for the fact we checked in later and it was one night we would have left there and then. This has been given a 4 star rating on booking.com, I have no answer as to how this is the case. I would caution folks to be wary of the room you can be handed here - if you are a single guy travelling for business it could be okay, as long as you enjoying having no space to do anything other than lie down in a darkened room and stare at the ceiling contemplating what you did to end up at this hotel.

I am writing to express my disappointment regarding my recent experience with Britannia International Hotel, Canary Wharf, and the handling of my booking cancellation. On January 25th, I mistakenly made a reservation for the same day instead of January 26th. I immediately realized my error and contacted the hotel to inform them. I was assured by a staff member that it was completely fine to cancel the booking and that I would not be charged. However, on January 28th, I noticed that I had been charged the full amount for the booking. I promptly contacted the hotel, and I was informed that the matter was now with Booking.com and that they would handle the refund. When I reached out to Booking.com, they mentioned that they had already sent an email to the hotel and advised me to follow up directly with the property to confirm the refund. At this point, I spoke to a staff member at the hotel named Samira. Unfortunately, her behavior was both disrespectful and unprofessional. While another staff member had initially assured me that the cancellation would not be an issue, Samira questioned me in a condescending manner, asking for the name of the staff member and implying that I had not checked the terms and conditions. I found this response particularly disappointing, especially given the assurances I had received earlier. This situation has been extremely frustrating. If I had been informed on the day of the cancellation that I would still be charged, I would have simply stayed at the hotel that evening rather than losing my money. While I understand that misunderstandings can happen, I did not expect such a dismissive attitude from someone working in hospitality. I would appreciate it if this matter could be reviewed and resolved promptly. Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Possibly the worst hotel in London. What can I say that's good? Well the reception staff were nice and friendly, although the clients were knee deep waiting nto be checked in and the staff were training a newbie. Obviously newbies have to learn, but maybe not at 6pm when there are 30 people waiting. Then there's the hotel itself. It's tired, dirty, poor faculties all round. I ate in the pizzeria. The food was so bland. I don't know how they made a pizza with roasted vegetables so dull but they achieved it. I wish there was something good to say, but really there isn't. Great location for a low cost hotel. Used it a couple of times to stay over after a gig at the O2. Never disappointed….just set expectations appropriately. My room has no window, but who cares? I’m only sleeping there. Clean, quiet, nice & warm, pleasant bathroom. It’s a bit of a rabbit warren in the lower ground and finding your room needs a Hobbit-like flair for exploring underground, but you only do it a couple of times. Bar is nice, think 1980 vibe. Recommended, but don’t go thinking you get the Ritz.

Room 505 was spotless warm enough with extra heaters if we wanted them beds are clean and comfortable, food is really good value. The staff have all been lovely and welcoming on our first night always smiling and asking if we are ok also wishing my daughter a happy birthday she’s absolutely loved the attention, Also a lot of nice guest who are here this weekend to who talk away to us. This is more of a budget hotel, but if you can look past the outdated décor and horrible lift then it represents fairly good value. Rooms are quite spacious and generally clean and comfortable. What really sets this hotel apart from others is the location. The hotel is situated approximately within a 10 minute walk to Canary wharf station and shops. Can't get more central than this.

I am sorry for the following There was not a single bottle of water in the room, only two plastic cups. The fire alarm went off at an unsuspected time. ATTENTION THERE ARE BASEMENT BEDROOMS -1 and -2 level where it is like a boat cabin. (THEY DON'T MENTION IT ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET) There is no service or room service of course down there. We did not know that we would pay so much money to stay in the ministry with limited basics. Again, the sheets and towels were clean.

No windows and even in winter the rooms were boiling with no working fans or ac. Food was horrible and bland so even through we paid for breakfast and dinner we had to eat out adding extra costs. Saw a staff member being extremely rude to another staff member by pulling faces and snatching things from their hand saying things and the other one just looked sad and said nothing back. Fire alarm went of in the morning wakening people up. Welcome drinks include tiny fresh glasses of juice which are very watered down. Views would be great if the windows were turning green on the outside and haven't been cleaned in what looks like over a year. And the beds are solid and springy so sleep is hard with that heat and fire alarm.

This hotel is smoke and mirrors. While the lobby is beautiful, that is where the glamour ends. Our soap dish in the shower was thick with gross scum, our bed was two single beds pushed together, neither our phone nor fan worked. Wallpaper is coming off the walls in the hallway and other than the lobby, where they seem to put their money, the place is shabby, though they ask a lot of money to stay there. If you are handicapped, they lock you out at night and don’t pay attention when you come to the doors. We asked Stephen for an extra pillow that never arrived. If you are out and about London late at night, eat before you get back as their food service will be closed and they do not allow outside food to come into the hotel. Don’t bother expressing concerns to the General Manager, as he could not be less bothered to listen. Though we stayed here once before, we shall not be staying here again. Had the General Manager been more engaged, maybe, but we were simply blown off by this pompous man. Without your customers, mate, what do you have? Get off your high horse and listen to them.

Went there this year and the hotel is just cheap. And I’m not talking about the rooms, they’re ok. I’m talking about the way the staff treats its costumers. Despite being in the business of hospitality, this hotel displays very little of it.

The only positive thing I can comment on is the location. The hotel in itself is not great to say the least. The lobby and common areas have a smell so dense and chemical it’s like walking into a Christmas scented candle. The rooms have no proper ventilation as well as beds(stayed in a room with two single beds) that feel like the mattress is about to slide off, and walls that were thinner than paper. The shampoo and body soaps were a total joke considering the hotel has four stars. We had breakfast included, and were utterly disappointed to find sunny side up eggs that had the texture of plastic, bacon that could not be chewed through and instant coffee packets since the coffee machine was broken, even though there was a perfectly functional machine in the bar. There were no vegetables in sight and the one basket of fruit, left the fruit with a sticky residue when picked up. To top off a very mediocre breakfast, the staff was very unwelcoming and seemed to be conflicted about hotel policies like wether or not to bring down your stapled paper with your room number on it to breakfast or not. Needless to say the hotel I experienced was not one of four stars.

Review: Britannia International Hotel, London The Britannia International Hotel in London is located in Canary Wharf, a modern and bustling area with good connections to central London. At first glance, the hotel impresses with its central location and proximity to public transport, including the DLR and Canary Wharf tube station. However, upon closer inspection, there are some weak points that cloud the overall impression. Positive 1. Location: The location of the hotel is undoubtedly one of its biggest advantages. It is ideal for business travelers visiting Canary Wharf. Tourists also benefit from the quick connection to attractions such as the Tower of London or Greenwich. 2. View: Some rooms offer great views of the River Thames or the Canary Wharf skyline, which can visually enhance the stay. 3. Price: Compared to other hotels in the area, Britannia International is often cheaper, making it attractive to travelers on a smaller budget. 4. Breakfast: The breakfast buffet offers a solid selection of hot and cold dishes that are sufficient to start the day, although the quality of the products is rather average. Negatives 1. Condition of the rooms: Many rooms seem outdated. The carpet is often worn, the furniture is old-fashioned, and there are reports of poor cleanliness, such as dust on surfaces or mold in the bathroom. The smell in some rooms also leaves something to be desired, which may be due to an outdated ventilation system. 2. Service: Customer service is mixed. While some employees are friendly and helpful, others seem disinterested or overwhelmed, especially when there is a high volume of guests. 3. WiFi: In a city like London, free WiFi is now standard in hotels. However, at Britannia International Hotel this is often not the case, or the connection is extremely slow. 4. Noise level: Despite the soundproof windows, many guests complain about noise, particularly from other hotel guests or the surrounding area. This can significantly affect sleep. 5. General atmosphere: The hotel has the charm of decades past, which may seem nostalgic for some guests, but leaves others with the impression that it has not moved with the times. Conclusion The Britannia International Hotel has its strengths, especially in terms of location and price. If you're just looking for cheap accommodation in Canary Wharf and don't have high expectations of comfort or modern amenities, you could find a suitable option here. However, for travelers who value cleanliness, service and a contemporary atmosphere, there are better alternatives in the area. Overall, I would rate the Britannia International Hotel as a mediocre property that could become significantly more attractive with a renovation and a greater focus on guest satisfaction.

My stomach dropped to the floor as soon as I entered. All furniture completely damaged and food and drip stains, rips & tears on all curtains carpets. Dirty marks all over walls and torn wallpaper. Smells like a homeless hostel. The bed had bed bugs got bitten and the mattress sunken stained and smelly. The evening meal left most people speechless. A bag of frozen veg from Iceland. Halal only food. Strange food choices. Not edible. I have no words. The restaurant is disgusting dirty cheap stained carpet tiles. No decor rough coat of paint. Only water given to drink. Nothing more than a run down empty room. And the staff cater for certain groups only. I feel upset, wasted my money..leaving this place feeling dirty need to go home for a bath. A horrible place, and 1 star only. Anyone who gives this hotel a good review has no standards at all. And they are probably street sleepers themselves

Absolutely appalling service at this hotel. I asked reception for an additional duvet, and without even checking, the staff immediately dismissed my request with a flat "no." Their excuse? "The hotel is busy today." This level of laziness and lack of effort is completely unacceptable, especially when I booked two rooms and expected basic hospitality. They didn’t bother to look, think, or even care—it was an outright refusal with zero professionalism or courtesy. If you're considering staying here, don’t bother. Instead, stay at the Novotel hotel, which is located just opposite. You’ll get much better service, comfort, and professionalism—something Britannia Hotel clearly lacks. Avoid this place at all costs!

Stay away! The temperature in our room was 31.5 degrees! After 7 hours and many trips to reception, they gave us a different room. The second room had BLACK MOULD in the bathroom... Also, two people working at reception were coughing her lungs out. The woman from reception admitted that she had the FLU. She was not wearing a mask, and she was not using a hand sanitiser. A minute later, she handed me the room cards...

Never left a review before but felt this place deserved one. I did not have a pleasant experience. How this place can claim it is 4* is beyond me. Stayed for 3 nights, and was kept awake for 2 of those nights by the fire alarm repeatedly going off from 2-4 AM. Cleaning staff making large amounts of noise in the corridors very early with no regard for the guests. Reception staff were utterly miserable, no eye contact or any general manners. Bar staff were nice though. Rooms are very dated and poorly decorated. When checking out there were no staff around at 8:30 AM to whom I could talk to, you just throw the key cards in a box and bugger off. Overall not a nice stay, in hindsight it is worth paying more and staying somewhere where you can actually sleep. Only positive is the location, very easy walk to Canada Place and tube stations.

The fire alarm was accidentally triggered multiple times at 3am, two nights in a row- not a pleasant experience. Hotel location good for visiting Canary Wharf and a short walk from the Underground.

Fire alarm going at 3:30 in the night and the staff just tells you it's broken, just give it 10 minutes?? Besides that, no towels in the bathroom, no staff at the desk, drinks are expensive and the location, which would've had great views, is impossible to see cause there's filth everywhere and none of the windows are clean.

Reasonably priced hotel in a great location. Breakfast is notably worth having especially if you are gluten free as they have a whole separate serving area. The room we stayed in was a lower floor room, and although nothing wrong with it the lack of phone signal was a bit annoying and we weren't about to pay for the WiFi when we were there for a very quick stay. Maybe the hotel could consider this about these rooms and have some sort of extension of the free WiFi that was available in the lobby area.

Had 2 visits here recently and both times a different experience. First visit check-in was disappointing, the gentleman who served us was not the most accommodating and lacked in customer service training. 2nd visit much improved where the young lady greeted us with a smile and was very informative of our stay. Again with the rooms, first room was in the basement with no windows, please if you can afford to spend more money do so, as the basement rooms with no windows are depressing, so I would recommend anything from 1st floor upwards. 2nd stay was on 5th floor with much better views although windows so not open, which again was disappointing as the air-conditioning can get a little stuffy at times. Overall, for the price and location not a bad stay, but we were only visiting for work, so no real complaints.

Total disaster of a restaurant. Food was poor quality, understaffed and decor was rotting away. No longer a restaurant by the looks of it.

15 years ago I would've travelled far and wide to enjoy 1 of their salt beef on black rye sandwiches. Today is a far cry from those glory years. Gone is the focus on quality and delicious food. Welcome the age of cost cutting. Over the last so many years they have slowly but surely started cutting corners wherever they can. First it was the discontinuation of bread choices. Now it's a simple white or brown and a noticeable reduction in the size of the slices. But worst of all, going from a sandwich loaded with salt beef and a whole pickle on the side to what I had today, what can only be described as a sad excuse for a sandwich. A pitiful amount of salt beef and a few slithers of pickle. In fact, the layer of mustard spread onto the bread was thicker than the meat filling. It was completely inedible, and I had to throw half of it out. All that for £10. What a joke. Avoid at all cost!! This place used to be great but they are now nothing more than a rip off. Go to Pret, go to Waitrose, go absolutely anywhere and you will get better value for money and tastier sandwich.
