What a dark and dingy place this is! It's pitch dark in there! As I went in for a drink a man came out and asked me if I had a torch! On buying a pint I understood what he was on about, you don't need a torch you need a SEARCHLIGHT! IN MY 73 YEARS IVE NEVER BEEN IN SUCH A DARK PLACE! Like most people my age I have fading eyesight, doesn't the Owner realise this or doesn't he/she care? On going to the toilet I banged my head on a low beam, good job I have a good head of hair or i'd have had a nasty bump on my head! I am considering contacting Powys Health and Safety re - the matter. A man with a sore head!

Had lunch today at this fine pub. We had the chicken sandwich and the pork sandwich, respectively with some adult drinks. The sandwiches were very fresh and had lots of filling. It was very enjoyable. I walked to the bathroom and saw their Sunday roast and wow. I can’t wait to return to give one of those a test. I would definitely recommend.

We thought we would give this place another try after an awful meal we had here last year. On that occasion they forgot to bring my potatoes and then brought a bowl of undercooked potatoes (obviously from the microwave) that were totally inedible! Today we visited for Sunday lunch and it was vile. The roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding were burnt and the underside of the parsnip was like charcoal. The yorkshire pudding was so dense it was completely inedible and the vegetables were tasteless and obviously microwaved. Will not be eating here ever again!

Beautiful recently refurbished restaurant. The decor is truly stunning which takes your breath away when you walk in. It's a little gem fitting snugly into the very classy town of Crickhowell. Absolutely superb, choice of food was very good and reasonably priced. Beautiful surroundings and the staff were very helpful. Lovely Welsh hospitality in a rural Casey setting. Have eaten here before and never had any issues. Not sure regarding some of the negative comments other than every establishment must have an off day I guess.

Poor hygiene standards. Firstly I saw the server putting veg into serving dishes with his hands. Then he blew his nose on the cloth he was using to handle the plates he was dishing up. Another staff member licked his fingers and then handled the plates without washing them. There was pretty much continuous eating food direct from the serving dishes without washing hands. It's a wonder no one has become ill. God knows what's going on in the kitchen where you can't actually see them.

We ordered pizzas and were told it would be a little while as only one pizza oven. After half an hour we checked in to see if it would be too much longer and they hadn’t even been started. It wasn’t busy. After an HOUR the very lovely waitress came and apologised that she had no idea what was going on but the pizzas still hadn’t been started. The chef had been sent home and would we like a refund. We then waited a further 15 minutes as none of the staff knew how to do a card refund and not enough cash in the til. They ended up borrowing the cash from a friend drinking in the pub to pay us. We heard an order being taken for pizza as we were leaving with two hungry children! During the wait for a refund, we saw one member of staff coming in with a carton of apple juice bought from elsewhere. Then another member of staff came in carrying bread and eggs, so clearly they were running out of things and dashing to get them. An absolute failure in management and training. Another family there at the same time left without food too. The only saving grace was the very lovely waitress who clearly wanted to do a good job and was teary about not being able to help. Ate here a year ago and it was fine so not sure what went wrong.

One of the worst meals we've ever eaten. Poor quality food at high cost. £4 for a chip side dish with honestly 7 chips in! Pizza was undercooked and doughy. Side salad was a bit of iceberg and a slice of two of cucumber for £3.50! The total cheek of it. To make it worse the service was appalling and rude unfriendly staff.

Lovely, proper Welsh, friendly pub in the centre of a fantastic little town. Stayed on the local campsite and walked into town for our evening meal. Went to a different pub first, miserable service, so crossed the road to eat here. Lovely welcome. Small beer garden out the back but it was being used for a private function so we ate inside (not a problem). Really friendly, chatty bar staff, who offered my other half samples of their real ale selection. Good menu and not overpriced. We both had lasagne (1 beef and 1 veggie) and it was delicious and came out quickly with a smile. What's not to like. Only stayed 1 night in Crickhowell but if we'd have stayed longer we have used the Britannia every night!

Service was good but getting a seat is a bit of a free for all. Visited Crickhowell while on holiday with husband and two dogs. Walked past this pub first of all, not impressive from the front, but then decided to stop for quick coffee, as dogs welcome. And we received good welcome as well. Cosy bar, and possibly not some people’s taste but I liked it. Coffee was lovely, and waitress friendly. Decided to look at lunchtime menu, ordered a pizza between us, as there is a warning that their pizzas are large, so they recommend sharing with side order if chips, coleslaw and salad. Glad we took their advice, would’ve never managed a whole one on my own. It was possibly one of the nicest pizzas I’ve had, homemade and delicious. It beat any I’ve had in Italy, the chef should be complemented.I know we only had a pizza but would recommend this Inn to others. I see other reviews are not as complimentary, well our food was lovely, and the pub was clean, and service good. I know the toilets are old, but it is an old Inn with character, would people prefer it loses that, if you want modern toilets, no character etc then You need to go somewhere modern, but leave Crickhowell alone, it’s perfect and friendly

This pub did not meet expectations for many reasons. The food was poor quality at a high price. The menu papers were dirty and the menu itself limited and old fashioned (for example ''vegetarian burger'' with no explanation as to what this vegetarian burger is comprised of. A band was due to play in the evening and there seemed to be no plan as to where/ how they were to set up with band members moving large tables and furniture over the heads/ around seated customers. The toilets were smelly. The bar staff unorganised with orders being served to the wrong tables and a staff adding up bill totals in their heads adding to the already long bar serving times. Despite all of this the pub was busy, possibly with people passing through the area or perhaps they could find some positive reason to return that we missed. The building itself looks good so I'm sure with improved organisation, an updated menu and perhaps a new chef this place could be transformed.

Six of us walked in here at 12 o clock on a Saturday lunch time. Although pub was empty the woman behind the bar said there was over an hour wait even for sandwiches. Obviously didn't want our business at any cost. I don't know what the situation is with this business probably a managed pub by the looks of things but whoever owns it needs to have a good look at things. Went to a packed bear where we received prompt polite service.

The Britannia looks welcoming from the outside, and is simply delightful inside with stripped wooden floors and plenty of nooks and crannies for a tete a tete. Stylish lighting effects too. I can vouch for the excellence of the bacon sarnies. Also the excellence of the squashy leather sofas. Always a massive plus for me!!! The pub is dog friendly. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc. available to drink as well as alcohol. The atmosphere is friendly and cosy, and the Britannia has bunkhouse accommodation.

Arguably my worst pub experience in my 50 years on this planet. We were a party of twelve, having just participated in a charity walk at the nearby Glanusk Estate. We were looking to lunch and were directed here by their sister hotel around the corner. The pub was convivial enough on entry although with very few other diners / drinkers even though it was 1 o'clock on a sunny Sunday afternoon. There were two waiting staff only, one of whom was brand new to the job and as helpful as she could be. The second laughingly called herself the manageress. She was clearly neither expecting nor hoping for visitors who may wish to order food. She was wholly incapable of taking drinks and food orders from more than one person or completing one task before embarking on another. Much of what was on the menu was unavailable and, had we stuck around to dare the food, I would have been served my third choice of dish. Once the first orders were taken, we were informed that we could not play with plastic as the card machine was broken (if that is to be believed). Before returning any change, or serving those of us that were still waiting to place food and drink orders, she disappeared to make coffees. I politely suggested that she should take the orders from those of us still waiting, before disappearing. She aired her frustration in her response and made it clear that she should was struggling to cope. The more helpful colleague took our order but had to disappear to the kitchen after each dish ordered to check on its unlikely availability. Eventually all orders were placed, cash paid and drinks served. Chips came, nothing wrong there until vinegar was added and something long and slimy deposited itself from the bottle. Chips were sent back. The first cheese and tomato toasted sandwich turned up, toasted on the outside, sure enough, but completely cold and unmelted cheese that had been nowhere near any heat source. It was returned to the kitchen. It came back with the second toasted sandwich both as cold as the first time around. At this, now starting to worry about the state tin which other food may turn up (uncooked cheese is one thing, uncooked chicken is quite another) and in view of the tirade of abuse that we were subjected to by the (AND I USE THE TERM VERY LOOSELY) manageress, we asked for our money back and decided to leave. She told us that she was not expecting so many people (we were only 12 in a pub that would hold ten, even twenty, times as many. How lucky she was that none of the other hundreds of walkers had decided to descend upon here or that they might have expected them to do so following the much publicised national event). She told us with absolute vehemence that she was deducting the money for the drinks, her privilege of course, we had safely drunk them and God forbid she might want to make a commercial gesture in return for the DIRE service that we had endured. Whoever appointed this so-called manageress into the role is clearly not anticipating this to be a customer-friendly or profitable establishment. Fawlty Towers is 5 star luxury in comparison. Enter at your peril

Do not go to the pub! My family and I popped in after being directed here from their sister pub after a long walk! All we wanted was a few sandwiches, chips etc.... all very simple! The toasties came out first which had clearly been microwaved and wasn't even cooked! We tried twice to get a decently cooked toasty and after this we were slightly peterbed by the chicken we were due to receive! Terrible food and on top of this poor management who was terribly rude and disorganised, she's told us she's was 'rushed off her feet' when we were the only family in there (unsurprisingly)! If we could recommend anything to anyone visiting the area it would be to not go to this pub I feel you are after good food and good service!! If we could say one post it Ive about the place it would be the excellent innovative idea to microwave a cheese toast i.e.!!

Called in hoping for food as it was that awkward time after lunch but before evening service - kitchen was serving so happy days!We had a pizza which was lovely! And for dessert, crumble and sticky toffee pudding, both beautiful as well. We'd chosen to sit outside and make the most of the lovely (at the time) weather. We'd been out there 5 minutes and the heavens opened. There was a lovely seating area out the back, nice, new solid garden tables and benches, with lovely table umbrellas which of course allowed is to stay outside. It was lovely to hear the rain hammering on the umbrella whilst staying dry. Staff were really nice and helpful, felt a little sorry for the boy who had to run outside with our pizza love him! Overall, fab place, people and food. I was lucky I had enough money though as they didn't take credit cards...

Dropped into the Britannia Inn for a bite to eat. This is a nice place with very friendly and helpful staff. Bit of a false start getting fed, they were not able to take payment cards but we had enough cash to get by. Once ordered, part of the order was delivered and then a long delay. A member of staff approached to apologise that there had been a mistake in the order and took the part delivered back and brought fresh out with the complete order. After all that the food was very nice, eaten outside in wonderful sunshine which helps. I would like to go back and sample more of the food and the real ales on offer.

Lovely ancient pub which has retained plenty of character. Many items of interest on the walls. The first room after the entrance is the most charming, where we enjoyed a lunch of faggots, burgers and salads, washed down with the local ale. No recorded music: congratulations! Lunch for three including drinks was a reasonable £62.65.

Not regarding the store but the Store Manager (if that's what you can call her) She's extremely prejudice towards people who are neurodivergent. This may seem bias but ask yourself why do staff keep leaving? Is it because they are expected to start early and finish late but not paid for it? Or is it that, they don't give out breaks so when you ask, she'd shocked and hurt by the message regarding it? Or maybe it's the constant persistence in calling neurodivergent people sloe and saying that because of any issues with health at all, they aren't fit for the job. Your attitude is disgusting, you are a despicable person and I feel sorry for the staff you step on who work under you. You don't have staff because of you. You are the problem. You kept my partner on for the festival and as soon as it's not busy, you get rid of him. I can understand if he isn't fit for the job, but to bully his neurodivergence and constantly belittling and calling him slow?

Recently visited here for breakfast with my family. The restaurant is small in terms of space and I can imagine if everyone had a trolley it would be hectic and cramped. Service was really good, couldn’t fault it at all. Food So, my boys and me both ordered the big breakfast, it was lovely presentation and given your in a supermarket cafe the food itself was lovely. My wife had scrambled eggs on toast which she said was lovely, the scrambled eggs didn’t look watery at all. Downside The only downside I have for the cafe is that the branded drinks are expensive, £1.09 for a can of Coke Zero to me is expensive. Overall we loved it and will definitely be back again

Good quality drinks and good service. More options for wine would be beneficial for future visits. Decor such as tables were a bit worn. The quality and value with regards to food was very good.
