One of the world's great and historic railway stations... in theory. In reality the level of cleanliness and efficiency just isn't there. What happens when the government (and a lot of the public) treat public transport like it's just for the working classes and not for everybody.

They urgently need: a map of the bus stops, perhaps next to the helpful real-time bus information inside the station entrance. They also need as a matter of urgency to label the bus stops themselves. These are very simple measures that would make onward travel much easier rather than a stressful and physically demanding nightmare which as a mobility -impaired person, it was for me, trying to understand which was which and where to catch the correct bus. The paving outside the station is very uneven and if you have a wheeled suitcase it keeps getting stuck. Much as I love Bristol this is a big issue for me which discourages me from coming back as I know I'll be in pain a few days now which will impact my stay in the city 😢

We are international travelers. We took the national railway GWR to Bristol this afternoon. This is a very old and beautiful station that looks like a castle! There are many blue taxis outside. There is also a large parking lot. The WiFi signal here is very good and the network speed is very fast. After we left the station, we wanted to go back to fill the water tank, and the station attendant kindly opened the gate for us. There is free drinking water here, so remember to fill it before leaving the station. 20240727

Arrived here from Edinburgh in early May - 6.5 hour trip by train, so to find a good Starbucks here was awesome lol. The station was clean, had great facilities, allowed a ton of people to move through quickly, had a few shops to grab refreshments, and although it took me a minute to find my way to the exit (travel weary brains), there were plenty of taxis ready to go for those who needed it, so I was out of there quickly too.

You have thirty minutes free parking for pickup and drop off in the short stay parking area but you need to get a ticket from the ticket machine. You can park for around one hour and a half. The machine takes cash and card payments.

I'm aware the staff in the ticket office can only sell you the tickets they are allowed to sell, but they could do it without being some of the most condescending & patronising individuals you could ever meet. The British railway ticket system is an outrage, but enforced by terrible staff who seem to revel in the ridiculous ticket system they oversee. When you know you are selling rip off products, at least have the humanity to not treat you customers with complete contempt too!

The worst train station in Europe by some margin. Dilapidated station with leaking roofs on most platforms. Robot announcements which are inaudible on most platforms when trains are there, they also sound dismembered, unpleasant and broken down. Dirty toilets. Staff that completely ignore you when you ask for your help or are extremely rude. Stenches of rancid food in the subway. And I haven't even mentioned about the third rate expensive train services. Just horrible.

First time in 40yrs on the train. Was looking forward to it. Just had a procedure at the heart institute, so sore and very breathless. Brought my ticket, man behind the desk said, platform 15. I repeated what he said. And was told yes very abruptly. Found 15 and asked conductor for Exeter train. After he stopped grinning. Said platform 12. I was told here. Told to go to lift👇. Exit lift and go upstairs. Did that.. Back on 15😳. This time laughing said I'll show you. Very reluctantly showing me the way. Finally got to train very breathless and in pain only to be told your in 1st you got to move. Very bad experience when you just want help and understanding. 😣🤬

A functional train station that connects very well into Bristol. Having taken multiple trains between it and other cities for a week in early May, (and during a rail strike), I faced only one delay on a train to Cardiff, (out of five/ six trains taken over the course of three days). Food options are better passed the ticket portal. But there are also a number of good restaurants within walking distance to the station as well. Bus here links directly to Bristol Airport, (was about a 30 to 40 minute bus ride).

It's not too bad for a very busy station. Usual bank loan needed to buy a coffee and snack. Give yourself a bit of time as your under platforms above ground platforms lifts stairs and it always seems that everyone apart from you no were their going. Then it's remortgage your house to buy train tickets. For such a large busy station the staff seem friendly and helpful. Always millions of taxi's outside the entrance. Just keep safe with your luggage when your underground going from platform to platform. So good luck folk's. The best part is the train pulling out of the station

This station is the main station of Bristol. From here trains go to Edinburgh, London, Cardiff, and Cornwall. Regional trains go elsewhere. Finding the platforms in the stations might be a bit confusing because of the old architecture but you can find your way eventually. Try to avoid entering trains here, especially the train to Weymouth, and London, as a lot of people get on here and its hard to get a seat especially on peak time. It is recommended to find alternative stations to get on to avoid the crowds. Such as, Filton Abbeywood, if you want to get on a regional train, or Bristol Parkway, if you want to go to London or Cardiff.

Brunel must be spinning in his grave!!! GWR provide an appalling service with dangerously overcrowded trains. Station rammed with people all desperate to board short trains, reminiscent of Tokyo rush hour. Station is dirty with food waste and takeaway cartons everywhere, staff chatting and not helping "customers " - always the sign of a bad employer sweating the assets on minimum wage. We just finished our trip to Bristol Temple Meads and while it is a work in progress with lots of construction happening I have found that it's a nightmare when it comes to cancellations. We were on the 11 a.m. train to London Paddington and I had prepared myself for the journey with my laptop out and everything just to discover people were leaving and I wasn't sure what was going on. We left the train and tried to speak to the passenger assistance place but they weren't much use either we had to figure it out ourselves and it wasn't dead friendly even though I did appreciate they had British sign language intercoms I felt they could have handled the situation better.

Why are all train-based staff on some weird power trip? I had a panic attack in the station and instead of lady helping me they decided to get back-up enforcements to pound me with questions over a £1.50 fare. They literally teamed up to barricade me in the station, even though one follow had no idea what he was contributing towards despite me having a valid ticket!! Clearly the ethos is to protect the ticket [the outrageous amounts of cash from each fare > public safety*]... *This wouldn't have happened if I was from a different demographic, the medics would have been called to my aid if I were say... an old lady, but they assumed because of the look of me that I was up to no good and made it as hard as possible for me to leave. Total jabronies, hopefully they will reflect upon thier lives and realise that they are predjudice and good for nothing and in the exact karmatic place they deserve.

We came for lunch. The menu is limited at lunchtimes to brunch and toasties (not even their burgers which can only be ordered after 4pm) but everyone in our group found something they wanted, and we expected the limited menu would mean what they offered they would do well. Despite the limited menu, there was a very long wait for our food to arrive, and we weren't warned of this when ordering. When the food did arrive, it was disappointing. Portions were small for the price, and my cheddar cheese toastie ("The Gorge") must have had the smallest quantity of cheese possible; it tasted overwhelmingly of mustard. And the bread was partly burnt. With some chips, my part-burnt mustard toastie was a tenner. Rip off.
